Forum Post: Why should I vote for you? (part 1)

I do not claim to speak for others, but this is what I believe.

I believe in Democracy, I believe in the vote. What I doubt is our present system. What I doubt is our present parties.

What I want to know is this: Why should I vote for you?

Why should I vote for you Democrats? You promised to end illegal or unnecessary or merely mismanaged wars that benefit only Iran and chose instead to start more. You promised to close Guantanamo Bay bit it continues, and now you have established, to much acclaim, a process by which Americans can be assassinated without law, without process, without even needing to present evidence of their crimes except through anonymous accusations in the "press."

You promised to come down hard on illegal wiretaps and instead chose to make such crimes legal and absolve all criminals. You promised to end intrusive government and instead sit idly by while the FBI recruits, trains, and arms would be terrorists only to magically stop them at the last minute as they did in Massachusetts and Oregon. In this way they bring the whole cycle of crime in-house to much fanfare but little function even as they argue before the U.S. Supreme Court that requiring a warrant to put tracers on any random individual is just "red tape."

By the same token you promised to regulate Wall Street, to ensure that executives who led failed companies were held accountable for their losses and were not rewarded. Yet when push came to shove you stood against reintroducing the Glass-Steagall act or enacting the Vockler rule. Hell you couldn't even bring yourself to demand that executives who ran their banks into the ground be fired or forego their bonuses even as the rest of us get laid off.

When faced with mounting evidence of a nationwide conspiracy designed to circumvent state and federal laws on registry of title (MERS) and equally organized systems to produce fraudulent documents (Robo-Signing), systems that cross state lines, you do nothing. You cannot bring yourself to punish the banks for destroying documents they should have kept. You cannot bring yourself to punish them for falsifying documents they do not have, or paying others to do so. You cannot even act seriously to protect homeowners whose properties have been seized illegally, let alone the ones who are so far under water they won't float again. Instead you have put your weight behind a "plea deal" that will slap two billion dollars on the wrists of an industry that profits in the trillions every year.

Yes you have a jobs bill in time for the election as employment is at 9% and 22% of all new college graduates have no jobs. But you turn to Jeffrey Immelt to be your job creator. You side up to someone who has presided over massive outsourcing to raise his stock prices, has hidden billions of dollars in profits overseas to avoid paying taxes, and even supported the misnamed "American Jobs Creation Act of 2004" which gave the company a tax break for moving jobs out of the country. What kind of jobs creator will he really be? You could have danced with anyone, you chose to dance with Wall Street not with us.

@ows is not a political party. They are not aligned with the democratic party. Before you write post like that, why don't you read what #ows is about. Once again #OWS is not a political party. They are a MOVEMENT of The 99% !

I agree that @ows is not a political party. The question was not intended as a reference to OWS as a political party but as a question from one who supports OWS to the political parties. If you read the full comment and see part 2 you will see that I am throwing a challenge to the Ds and Rs to give us a reason to vote for them.

Both parties talk about dealing with the problems that OWS is highlighting but neither one acts on them, hence my comments.

Then you should have mentioned BOTH parties.

[-] 1 points by SwiftJohn (79) 12 years ago

Sigh. Due to post length restrictions I was compelled to split this into two parts. Hence the title that says Part 1. Part 2 may be found here: http://occupywallst.org/forum/why-should-i-vote-for-you-part-2/

You know the 2 party system no longer represents the We The People. I said many years ago that the dems and repugs are in bed together. The dems were in majority when they gave that bailout in 2008. The system No Longer SUSTAINS itself. It no longer serves and Protects the 99%...We The People. Im not saying don't vote...but it has become a fuitless effort since the elections were rigged in 2000.

OWS has come along at just the right time. To many Americans are homeless, jobless, lack healthcare, taxed and nickeled and dimed to death by banks. The dems and repugs are out for SELF. All they ever talk about is the next election. Never once do they talk about solutions for the issues I mentioned above.

Personally I ma SIC of them and the HOT AIR they blow out of their a@@holes.

"You know the 2 party system no longer represents the We The People."

Yes and I said so in two parts.

[-] 1 points by MiMi1026 (937) from Springfield, VA 12 years ago

I wrote that after I read your post.
