Forum Post: I'm currently in a holding pattern...

I was very hopeful in the beginning but the more i read into things. (who's backing this, who supports it, the proposed demands) etc. The more apparent to me that this is a far left movement or a rallying to get obama re-elected with some grit against the mess that is the congress.

This movement could easily throw up a few proposed demands that would SHOW this thing has some teeth. The 1% Wall Street Sales Tax for one on all speculative transactions and an amnesty on student loans. Theres not even a mention of the federal reserve on this sites official documents. Audit the Fed would make this thing have some teeth. Denouncing Obama's support, pointing out that he is the poster boy of Wall Street who's cabinet is littered top to bottom with ex-WallStreet heavy weights.

I think the lack of a common straight forward list of demands allows people to interject their personal and at times confused perspectives, making our cause appear that much murkier. To me we the 99%ers are those that have no voice in this country. It doesn't matter if you are a Republican, Independent, Democrat, Tea Partier, believe in Socialism or Capitalism. Contrary to what we believe none of us actually has a voice in this country. We have been taught to believe that if we elect our respective parties into power that our goals and ideas will be done. Well guess what people, it won’t. The only people in this country with a voice are the 1%ers and they have no allegiance to any specific political party!

Who are the 1%ers you may ask? Well I say they are the large corporations and special interest groups who TRULY run this country. They are the groups of individuals who spend millions upon millions of dollars each year to convince YOUR congressman, YOUR senator, and YOUR President to do what best suits them regardless as to what's in the best interest of the rest of the 99% of this country.

Think about it, the root of every problem we face as a country regardless as to political beliefs boils down to who's willing to pay the most money to see their agenda done. So until we fix this system of legalized BRIBERY also known as lobbying this country will never ever be the place we dreamed that it could be.

Oh and if you don't believe me, ask yourself when was the last time you tracked down your congressman or senator in the capital between meetings and offered up a large sum of money in order to see a piece of legislation passed that best interested you?

I can't keep they subject called NO WAR on the front page

yet I saw many signs asking for that

http://occupywallst.org/forum/no-war/

it is disheartening that so few people care for the subject to sustain itself

"cabinet is littered top to bottom with ex-WallStreet heavy weights." like who?! None of them worked at Goldman Sachs, despite what you may have read. Daley spent a few months at JPM, but is hardly a Wall St. heavyweight. Liberals against Obama might as well be pro-GOP. Just like liberals who voted for Nader put Bush in office.

I'm taking obama out as the trash. Your spinning that this is what or whateveris just spinning. right wingers are paranoid delusional and project all of their shit.

We are not far left, and we are not interested in helping obama get elected.

Demands are not useful as a communication strategy. If you want to make sure we are going to drop the dems, get involved in creating an open source platform and working to find the peeps to run for office in our new political party.

HELP instead of being part of the problem.

Read some of the comments people are leaving regarding news articles. Many people in the movement are disappointed by Obama.

This isn't a left or a right group. It includes EVERYONE. Some people on the right are against some of the things you're listing.

The message here is pretty damn simple. Get everyone involved. Find the things we ALL agree on and push to make those things happen. If a large segment of the population don't agree with your policies... then those are not likely to be endorsed. Instead, concentrate on the things WE ALL WANT.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 12 years ago

I'm disappointed in Obama because he spends our budget on war

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 12 years ago

You can be left and not support Obama. If the goal is to find things you all agree on, what are they? I've yet to see anything productive.

[-] 1 points by imrational (527) 12 years ago

overturning the SCOTUS rulings that the government can take private property under Eminent Domain and hand it to private corporations. That corporations can donate unlimited sums to political campaigns. That corporations have the same rights as citizens.

That voting machines should have a paper trail and be easily audited before, during and after elections to check for tampering/errors.

Legislation forbidding future bailouts like we saw recently and with the S&L Scandal in the 80's.

I'm sure there are others... but those are some of the ones that I think most people agree with.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

Is that stuff productive? I think so.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage. They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give executives exorbitant bonuses.

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 12 years ago

SOME people were illegally foreclosed on. Others "bought" houses for 0% down and a mortgage they could barely afford and then where surprised when the bank got mad at them for not paying their mortgage. Also, most banks have paid back all of the money the government gave them so their money is now their money to do what they want with it.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

Does it matter that some of that was because of loose credit policies Wall St championed to keep people from seeing the lack of growth in middle incomes and the massive growth in upper incomes?

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 12 years ago

It matters that people went into things with their eyes closed. If you weren't smart enough to evaluate your own financial situation for yourself before making a huge investment, it's your own fault when you couldn't afford it. Wall Street keeping "people from seeing the lack of growth in middle incomes" has nothing to do with someone looking at their own income and how much they can afford to spend. Living within your means: the answer to most of life's problems.

[-] 1 points by hotdoghenry (268) 12 years ago

That's ridiculous! If your on the left who do you support?

This movement should be anti left. I'm finding that people here think they are on the left, but when you get to the facts, they really are not on the left and just vote that way because they don't understand

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 12 years ago

Being left or right is a set of beliefs and is not defined by a political candidate. It is, in fact, possible for someone to have leftist beliefs and not support any politician.
