....remember to register to vote, and then DO IT.

All this sitting in, playing music, talking and yelling and screaming is great, but the one time you can turn your voices into action is in voting.

PLEASE GET THE FUCK OUT THERE AND VOTE.

vote them all out and keep doing it until they get special interest money out of d.c.

I can't legally vote.

But you have my support.

Oh, just sign it... ya know you want to.....

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

I'm really sorry, sweetie, but I don't. I think we need to be in those organizations (although we could have done without NAFTA, as it turns out). I'll sign one if I agree with it, though, I promise.

[-] 1 points by jph (2652) 13 years ago

voting is voluntary enslavement.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

OMG. Have you ever been to countries where people don't get a vote?? Get a grip.

[-] 1 points by jph (2652) 13 years ago

voting once every four years is not a democracy.

[-] 1 points by hotdoghenry (268) 13 years ago

If you vote you have a right to protest.

If you do not vote, STFU and get out of the park. You are the problem not the solution.

[-] 1 points by tr289 (916) from Chicago, IL 13 years ago

You could easily flip it around and say if you vote you are condoning our broken system and it's you that is the problem.

I'm not trying to convince any one to vote or not to... Think about it though, what are you voting for ? Obama ? He sold out the people that got him elected by caving in to radical right wing extremists. The people that voted for him were not represented by him in Washington.

[-] 1 points by hotdoghenry (268) 13 years ago

That's fucking stupid. Don't blame a system you have not participated in.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

guffaw Me likey.

[-] 1 points by LaoTzu (169) 13 years ago

Vote for NOBODY.

NOBODY cares! NOBODY tells the truth NOBODY keeps election promises NOBODY helps the poor and jobless NOBODY listens to your concerns If NOBODY is elected, things will be better for everyone!

How can we vote if the system is already compromised & corrupted? We must impeach those corrupted politicians in our government out of Office.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Oh, you just lost me.

If the process were completely corrupted, Obama would never have been elected. That's why you have to vote.

Maybe you didn't really understand the Lao Tzu you read.

I don't think so. I generally expect explanations in words. Videos are a pain, and anyway, I have to get offline.

[-] 1 points by fraser (35) 13 years ago

Better yet - don't vote at all. Show your disdain for the corrupt political system by abstaining. Any vote is a vote to continue the status quo. Here is democracy - would you like to be raped by the guy in red or the guy in blue? Remember your vote counts!

[-] 1 points by WorkingClassAntiHero (352) from Manchester, NH 13 years ago

Neither Obama, Romney, Perry, Paul, Bachmann, Cain or Santorum will save us from what faces us currently.

Market solutions to social problems are irrelevant if not weighed against civic virtue and public good. All of these candidates, Paul included, wish to deliver greater power to the corporate machinery. Do no be fooled.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

You're fooled because you apparently think the Democrats aren't slaves to the corporate machinery.

[-] 1 points by WorkingClassAntiHero (352) from Manchester, NH 13 years ago

Not at all. I'm very VERY aware of this. I listed those individuals as they are the only ones running for President now. Obama has no primary opposition, so he, along with the rest, encompass the field.

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 13 years ago

Who do you vote for if they all pander to Wall Street? Might as well sit in and play music if that is the case.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

voting is pointless if we only have a two party duopoly. we need a new third party, and we don't need people telling us to vote who clearly miss the big picture.

bother to get informed about whats going on or stay out of it.

Voting is never pointless. It's your responsibility to choose the best person and support him or her. If you don't realize that, you deserve exactly what you have. Do you think you'd be in this position if Obama had been able to do what he tried to do? Let me tell you self-pitying fools: in Australia, voting is mandatory. I'm beginning to think that should be case, here. Right now, most of the replies I've seen to this comment have amounted to the cries of hungry babies who want it all fed to them. If you can't even be bothered to find out who is really on your side, stay in that play-pen you're in.

[-] 1 points by seaglass (671) from Brigantine, NJ 13 years ago

"Do you think you'd be in this position if Obama had been able to do what he tried to do? " You really believe that? He got exactly what he wanted and your a fool if you believe other wise.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

voting for a 1000 foot tall republican demon or a 20 foot tall democrat demon is not a choice, its a con scam false dillemma andi don't vote for demons. IF "Obama" ? WTF? your still talking about obama? he screwed the American people 101 different ways in just 4 years. Obama and the dems are NOT on our side, they are on THEIR side and THIER side is corporate oligarchy, fascism, lies, lies lies lies lies lies lies, nuclear power, coal, oil, lies lies lies lies lies, and corporate oligarchy and lies lies lies.

Obamas long list of offences includ 50 new nuclear pwoer stations. bailing out he vampire banks instead of staking them. A fascist totalitarian health care bill. denial of the kyoto protocol and assorted immense attacks on environmental regulations. The list goes on and on. Obama is not on our side, hes not on theside of truth and hes not on the side of meaningful positive social change. The dems are evil scum sucking parasites- they are NOT good they are not an alternative and they are in power BECAUSE of their ties to wall street and etc.

get real. grow up. Wake up.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

It's literally amazing how some people in OWS support Obama. His policies have been so ridiculously supportive of the big banks, it's mind-boggling.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Well, it is just possible that you're wrong. IMO, he's not supporting them so much as he saved them from imploding, which was an unfortunate necessity, if a really major depression were to be avoided. And now that he's running for re-election, his major focus is not on the banks, but on providing jobs, which means, among other things, forcing the rich to pay higher taxes so that our highways and bridges can get fixed (which they need so desperately that people have been dying as they've collapsed), which, in turn, will provide millions of jobs across the country. I think he's busy pushing for that, because he feels it's a higher priority than forcing the banks to pay back loans....but let me remind you: he did pass legislation that makes it illegal for banks to do some of the crazy shit they've done in the past (charging people to use ATM's, charging merchants when customers use debit cards, that kind of thing). I think he's tried pretty hard to do what he promised. I'm actually sick of people whining about him.

[-] 1 points by seaglass (671) from Brigantine, NJ 13 years ago

Yea now that he back in campaign mode he's cranking up the BS that he cares. The only job he's interested in saving is his own.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

Oh my God. I don't even know where to begin on this. Look at who is Chief of Staff is, a former JP Morgan Executive. Look at his panel of economic advisors. Look at his close relationship with the CEO of GE. Look at who bankrolled his campaign. Look at his support for Ben Bernanke's monetary policies. His massive debt runup did nothing but profit the big banks. They've taken all our money and rewarded their executives with huge bonuses. That's on Obama.

In his press conference last week, Jake Tepper of ABC News asked him why no financial executives have been prosecuted. He basically said, "well, they did nothing illegal." Is he serious? Watch the press conference. It's amazing.

Obama is a tool of Wall Street. Just like Bush was. Just like Clinton was.

Also, the banking system is going to collapse. It's just a matter of time. If they were allowed to implode, we would be on our way to rebuilding a healthier system.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Well, then, you might as well give up now, and leave, because according to you, there's no way anybody can change the course of this country. Not even someone who passed health care reform after being threatened with assassination. Or signed the bill ending DADT. Or pulled troops out of Iraq, or re-funded women's health clinics or funded medicaide and medicare and the schools....oh, no, he can't be any good. They all suck. Don't bother voting. Pack your bags and go to Paraguay.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

So basically, I just gave you a bunch of facts, and you tell me to leave the country. Please give my regards to the People's Champion, President Obama. He's doing a great job!

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

agreed. we must get rid of all dems and all republicans. they are the problem.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

Definitely. Some people are still clinging to the Democrats are bad, Republicans are bad mantra. They are the same.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

NO, WE'RE NOT. The differences should be obvious.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

well. not the same. republicans are clearly worse. but. its still just one giant godzilla demon versus one smaller personal sized demon... its time to get demons out of government.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

Well, I disagree with you there. Clinton is the one who signed the repeal of Glass-Steagal into law, and it was Barney Frank who introduced the repeal legislation into the House.

They are both ruled by corporate interests. There is no difference.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

we need a good long list of the things that obama and the dems have done which are corporate oligarchy and against the people to wake people up. would you be willing to wok on generating such a list?

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

If you think it would help and that it wouldn't result in a GOP vs. DEM pissing contest. I also get the sense from reading the forum that many people in the movement know that both parties are dominated by corporate money...but like I said, if you think it will help.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

sooner or later we are going to have to make a stand in one thread, and make it stick. you and i both know the dems are part of the problem. unless i get the kind of help i am asking for, its easy to see what direction things go in.

Most people do know whats going on but they haven't though through the alternatives. then there is the star power effect. most people lose their mind when they find themselves face to face with a star.. or even a CIA agent.

We have to stand up for it and be solid on it. that requires thoughtful detailed examples. There are thousands of such examples. we have no shortage. we just need to put a list together and make it up to say 100 examples.

[-] 1 points by guru401 (228) 13 years ago

Ok, I'll help. Make a take a few days to do some research, but I'm down.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

thank you. much appreciated. I will match you and provide as many links as you do.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Okay, Gawd, you can bite me. I want that "totalitarian" health bill. As far as I'm concerned, it isn't "totalitarian" enough. Clearly, you don't actually know what "fascist" means. Oh- and the "grow up" comment: I'm a lot older than you, so please, stuff it.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

sure, you want to be forced to have insurance coverage or face jail time? You want to create an enormous new give away market for the insurance companies? You want a continuation of the worst and denial of the best? Seriously- universal single payer doesn't make it because instead what makes it is a program whch essentially sells out the american people to the insurance companies. if you want that health care bill then you don;'t know whats in it.

I do know what fascist means. In this case it means quite exactly that this supposed health care bill will actually end up causing the deaths of millions of people, causing people to get under treated, maltreated, mistreated, and the whole thing is just a con scam to prevent universal single payer.

You may even be older than me in chronological age. But i'm living as an aspie 10 times longer in every second, so at 40 I'm subjectively 400 years old.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Well, then you need to get out more.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 13 years ago

I figure I lose my right to complain if I don't keep on trying to vote for the better candidate, and work for policies I believe in.

However, I am very concerned about the current campaign to suppress voting rights, by hampering registration and making voting more difficult and exhausting.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

Me too.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 13 years ago

Then please pass the word so people know to check whether their state is doing this, and how they can make sure they get their vote.

[-] 1 points by Opal (57) 13 years ago

That's what I'm trying to do, sweetie. I swear to God. In my whole life, I've heard such a slew of excuses, whiny-assed denials, ridiculous aphorisms ("voting is voluntary enslavement?? REALLY????) and genuinely depressed expressions of powerlessness that my flakes really get frosted. Yeah, life sucks and then you die. Does that mean you want to die now?? Yeah, the system is rigged. Does that mean you don't want to try to change it? Yeah, a lot of politicians are corrupt. Does that mean you are never going to run for office? (And if you do, and you win, are you ready to suddenly become a corrupt piece of shit in the eyes of everybody who voted for you??)

Is America over? Maybe. If Repubs have their way, yes, it is. Does that mean I'm giving up, or not fighting for my right to vote? Hell, no. (But I am learning French and Spanish.)
