Forum Post: Re Electing the Duopoly Year After Year After Year

If the populace as a whole is determining that they like "their" officials that are in power, but as a whole they are not performing well (10% approval rating, lower than the Kardashians), then what does that say about:

  • Us?

  • Those in Power?

  • The System in General?

This is probably one of the most interesting dynamics of electoral politics. If we believe we can simply vote our way out of this mess, then what are we going to do about how we vote?

Is voting your way out possible in this system?

Would 3rd parties ever be hopeful in this system? If so, what is it going to take to change the ground swell of loyalty to the current two 100+ year old, corrupted as all hell, tyrant power brokers that currently hold the keys to the castel?

I would love to see some major fluctuations in EVERYTHING, including Congress. Is that too political for Occupy? Perhaps, but there is a lot of overlap in those who are down with those who dabble in election politics.

Thoughts going forward?

We can hack the system.

Occupy Government can be a non-partisan movement. It's members may be registered Democrats or Republicans. From the membership, identify who we want to see as elected officials, then throw the weight of Occupy behind them.

Together, we can probably (definitely?) run a good enough campaign for them to stand a chance of becoming known and talked about. If we get enough such people, then we have a government which hasn't been bought by corporations.

Then change the system, including the way public officials are voted into power. The current methods lend themselves to creating/sustaining a two party system.

I think the problem with endorsing current parties is that it's a club, and there is tradition and there is a pecking order, and ultimately they make the rules on what that is. Once these people are elected, that is just the beginning. We are now grouping them with massively corrupted people, the temptation, the bribes, etc. If they don't play along with their new team,, they will be buried quickly.

Not that this can't happen with outside candidates too, but at least they are free and not roped in in such a matter from the get go.

I always like the 50 Man Challenge where as each state finds a few seats that are easy to grab, and gets an insider in there to strictly raise hell. One outsider per state means that an entire state could back just one person. Local enough to have an impact, yet large enough to really amass a small campaigning army.

Imo the only thing that wins elections in this system for outside candidates is incredible energy. The energy to motivate and some great organizers behind the scenes. These types of people are usually the ones who are so disgusted with D and R that they may not go for this.

We want people, imo, who are seriously pissed off.

Just my thoughts, interested in your take.
