Do Walmart and Kroger's say to the conservative base that they despise government handouts and the taxes that must eventually follow?

I'm sure they don't care to be taxed and so that part is sincere. But what would they say to losing a substantial part of their income on grocery sales if Food Stamps were cut and that part of their customer base starved? After all, who gets to convert those food stamps to cash? What would slumlords say if welfare disappeared and they couldn't pay their mortgages?

Would it be better to have wealth extracted from you by government taxes or rentier profits? Who gives more useful goods and services for that which they take from you, the government or a Wall St. wheeler-dealer? Which is more necessary to our common well being and survival?

No matter how much conservative politicians and their corporate overseers say to their base that they must get rid of welfare and food stamps, they never do it. They know that in the end the subsidy benefits themselves and their real constituency: the landlords and investors that own the supermarkets and banks whose mortgage incomes are underwritten by taxes on the middle class and working poor. Government borrowing just increases the bankers cut of the loot.
