Forum Post: Time to get Serious - A simple proposal

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 21, 2011, 3:25 p.m. EST by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Several people, have put up lists identifying the "Trolls"on this forum that are dividing us as a group, and wouldn't you know it, the trolls are posting their own list of names including some core members of this forum as "Trolls". Its pure and utter chaos. This needs to stop. When you weed through the diversionary messages, and the nonsensical posts, there really is a common belief system underlying this movement, and it needs room to breathe and be heard.

I propose that, instead of trying to identify the trolls, lets focus on the issues. Anyone who presents viewpoints in opposition to or outside of the basic value of this group, which is economic inequality, needs to be silenced. Yes, I said Silenced, as in censored, muted, cut out, banned, removed from the forum, excommunicated, stepped on, and otherwise made inert.

I can see the trolls already piling onto this thread, calling me some kind of Nazi who is against free speech, but free speech is a very dangerous weapon, and right now it is being used against us. You think the Tea Party lets just anyone hang out in their rallies asking for Obama to be lynched, even though that is probably exactly what they want? Of course not. They heavily censor their participants, as any political movement that expects to have cohesion and progress does.

Let me spell it out for you. Free speech is the enemy of this movement. I could not care less if you feel deep in your heart that free enterprise creates social mobility, or that flat tax is a fair tax, or that one world government is bad for America. It doesn't matter to me if you think the Jews are the 1% and the source of our problems, or that Ron Paul is the next best thing since sliced bread, or even that Obama has failed us.

KEEP THOSE OPINIONS TO YOURSELF OR GET OUT!!!!!

Your presence is welcome, but your opinions are not. Unless this movement sharpens its message and solidifies behind it, we are doomed to failure.

The only thing that needs to happen is to simply ignore the trolls. Their posts and comments will get lost in the fray. Focus on the issues.

save links to important issues so the can be brought back up

Claps<< “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ― Margaret Mead everyone else just gets to injoy the freedom they fought and complained about..but..In giving rights to others which belong to them, we give rights to ourselves and to our country. - by Kennedy, John F

The only thing visible is the fray right now. Thats why we are taking it up the ass in the news.

You are committing a golden mean fallacy.

This movement is a challenge to the oligarchical structure of our economy and political system. It has already failed. There is no other side to this argument that is worth considering. It needs to go. period.

What we are discussing are approaches. This is very new to a lot of Americans. If you have no solutions, or even constructive criticism, you are just generating noise.

Right. So I'm recommending a squelch control so we can communicate with each other and the outside world.

[-] 0 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 12 years ago

Exactly my point! Who wants that kind of crap floating about!

What, you compiling a greatest hits album? I'd say hippie chicks rates over 10 stars.

You r evidence speaks to the need for the action I am calling for here.

You seem to be against socialism, though I saw you run away from two conversations about it.

You are so busy pretending to be a troll that that you can't even do what the forum was meant to do; discuss. Come up with solutions.

You are pretending to be a troll, yet, few troll generate as much noise as you do. http://occupywallst.org/forum/damn-socialists/#comment-118095

I mean, seriously? What do you want?

You want Obama Impeached

You don't want economic equality

OWS should be in DC instead of wall street.

The movement is not supported by centrists

do I have that right?

[-] 0 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 12 years ago

I'm honored that you took the time to not only look up, but actually read these many pearls of wisdom. I'm not sure if I would agree with your selections for the "Greatest Hits" album, but people find value in different things.

As to what I want, or what my motive is, you'll have to figure that out for yourself. I'm a big fan of irony, so you can read that into most of my posts.

Take this thread for instance. You would be hard pressed to argue with the necessity of the actions I call for. The irony of the fact Obama and the DNC have regular meetings on exactly this topic (Controlling the message) is something you wouldn't appreciate, but it remains true (and funny).

What do I want? I want this movement to do something. ANYTHING(besides stinking up Zucotti park). I'm down with change. I'm down with anarchy. I'm down with socialism. I'm down with free markets. Pick something and run with it. The platitudes, idealism, and idioicy are killing me(though good for a few laughs).

Here are some ideas:

  • make a full throated, multi-national, unapologetic call for socialism. Should do a wonderful job energizing the 65% of Americans who aren't down with that to vote in Nov., not to mention the standing joke about the 99% the rest of the country can laugh about for years to come.

  • get 100% behind the Obama campaign (so he can be tied to it till election day)

  • get OWS to shift its attention toward DC, so it can join the Tea Party in making real change. That would be cool too.

  • get the people in the streets to pull their heads out of their ass, think about what they are asking for, and form an original thought. Could do wonders for our nation on the whole. Would also help them more clearly articulate their message, and argue their points.

I'm just here to help people think.

I have sampled mikeyD's posts. After filtering for noise, here's what I have determined are MikeyD's Priorities for the movement:

  • Impeach Obama
  • No to redistribution of wealth
  • get away from wall street

I get it, mikey, I do.

"MikeyD" was unmasked as a TROLL ages ago!!!!! That's why he's trying to "reinvent" himself. Don't fall for his B.S.

Why not just ignore the posts you don't like?

[-] 1 points by demonspawn79 (186) 12 years ago

What kind of bullshit is this? Since when is OWS only about economic inequality? As far as I'm concerned, OWS is about the massive influence corporations have in U.S. politics. You're an idiot if you think OWS should only concentrate on one particular problem in society. This movement has huge support and can change as much as it wants. If anyone should be banned it should be those trying to limit the scope of the movement like MikeyD here.

[-] -1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 12 years ago

Oh yah. Anti-semitic, Obama hating, free market loving, anarchistic, and racist messages are really going to get us a long way. Everyone may be welcome, but not everyone is welcome to represent. Quit being so naive.

"Anyone who presents viewpoints in opposition to or outside of the basic value of this group, which is economic inequality, needs to be silenced."

That is exactly what you said in your first post. You said nothing about "antisemitic, Obama hating, free market loving, anarchistic, and racist messages". You're just a fucking fascist who wants to silence anyone who doesn't agree with your viewpoint. You really wanna help OWS? Stay the fuck away from it, we don't need people like you.

[-] -1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 12 years ago

I see. You want me to keep quiet then? Hypocritical much?

[-] 1 points by demonspawn79 (186) 12 years ago

lol You really are a complete douche bag.

[-] 0 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 12 years ago

It would seem you and I are completely alike. Its just a matter of which opinions we want suppressed. If I'm a douche bag, so are you.

Free speech in action at "Tea Party" Republican Congressman's Town Hall meeting:

I guess Mikey thinks we should take a lesson from him?

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 12 years ago

sigh

if only there were sub categories for those issues

[-] 1 points by Rael (176) 12 years ago

Any movement that cannot withstand the scrutiny of free speech needs to fade away.

[-] 1 points by iamamericame (18) 12 years ago

you know what you all want...but how are you going to achieve it.? – ‎"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable." - John F. Kennedy ... if you want the 1 % out of goverment. then propose an admendment to do away with lobbist, and how about only allowing senators to serve 2 terms and congressmen the same. like the president. to keep power in check..i mean really..do you think the president has any power at all, maybe little..but senators and congress can stay in office as long as the electronic votes go in their favor..lmfao..!..hello...see the big picture..? who needs to be president when you can serve a life term as a senator who decides...rule behind the curtain..seriously know the facts about goverment..and make a change..but you are going to have to do it the right way or the fight way...success is make a plan and follow it through ..just like our forefathers did..just my opinion..

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 12 years ago

You just never stop do you. Nice try.

Sadly, many will fall for this. I hope you're having fun.

a very modest proposal

Free speech is not the enemy. We are large enough and tolerant enough to let the trolls speak their opinions. We simply have to realize that some (most members of the tea party) are not realizing that they speak out for a system that exploits them. In time with enough information about the top one percent brought into light more people will start to see that our current system isn't that different than feudalism (in regards to the distribution of wealth anyway). The movement is just gaining traction to kill free speech is to kill our message. Simply ignore trolls or use their rebuttals to help strengthen your resolve or sharpen your point. In this country, as an entire nation we must chart a new course that allows for a narrowing of the great wealth gap between the top one percent and the remaining 99 percent.

Occupy Occupy Wall Street movement....who in with me?
