When one of us is under unfair attack! Anyone who prefers respectful, fair approaches to the issues we face on this forum, and in the world. Please give an upvote, a kind word. A defense against attackers. Show would be attackers that we stand together for these basic concepts. This can be a form of humiliation in the town square in days of old. And of course reporting abuse when appropriate is acceptable.

Woke up very early, logged on and saw a disturbing incident of attack. Like you, I would not want a fuss made over me. I think though it is important that the attackers should see in black & white where the good people of this forum stand.
Humiliation in the town square is most effective. That is what I was trying to do. Please don't be offended. And maybe seperate your own humility and recognize that whether you or the next victim we can fight back with overwhelming positiveness.
It doesn't have to take away from the real business we care about. In fact we could be stronger.

Thrasymaque, remember him? He once told me something in PM that made a lot of sense. He said anyone who supports OWS in no way supports the Republicans. He was right about that. So, all the supporters of OWS have that in common. Some may lean more to the left than the Dems, but they sure as hell aren't Republicans. So, quit arguing. It isn't going to help anything.

That's just it, though, it is confusing. Because, if you want more broader sweeping change, which OWS as a movement clearly does, then you can't work within the current system, and that, in the short term allows the Republican crap platform to continue, but in the long term maybe we can make some real gains. I'm for working for the short term and the long term at the same time. I think it can be done. That is why I think all the good and very smart people on this forum may disagree to an extent, but I think their arguments all have validity and don't actually counter one another. Everyone has their own role to play in moving this country in the direction it needs to go in. It's just not a completely linear trajectory.
We DO each have a role to play. I agree. We may not agree with every role/tactic but we should try to lift each other up, and not tear each other down.
We need each other. We need the support that comes from others struggling together.
Reforming from within may not be possible.
Recreating from scratch may not be possible.
But each might progress with the others support.

Arguing is good. disrespect, name calling, personal attacks are the kinda things to quit but I wouldn't want to discourage free speech/expression.

We support a new system of govt. I believe it will inevitably evolve. I believe we must use the existing corrupt system to lay the groundwork for that new system!
