General Services Administration – with the Blessing of the Obama White House – Tells Law Enforcement to “Stand Down” and Not Enforce the Law Against Occupy Protestors According to Records Uncovered by Judicial Watch August 07, 2012

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it has obtained records from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicating that the General Services Administration (GSA), with the blessing of the Obama White House, instructed law enforcement officers to “stand down” and not arrest “Occupy Portland” protestors who were in violation of the law.

The records, obtained pursuant to a November 11, 2011, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, include internal DHS correspondence. One November 6, 2011, e-mail exchange between DHS/National Protection and Programs Directorate Chief of Staff Caitlin Durkovich and GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner Robert Peck (who has since been fired) specifically related to Occupy Portland protests taking place on federal property in Portland:

I am sorry to be emailing you on a Sunday night, but wanted to let you know our Press Shop has received a couple of calls from Portland media outlets about a group of 11 protesters who again set up camp at Terry Shrunk Plaza in Portland last night. They have chained themselves to a large drum filled with concrete. GSA controls the permits and has asked FPS [Federal Protective Services] not to enforce the curfew at park and the prohibition on overnight encampments. Reporters have asked if we will be arresting the protestors as FPS did last week.

Our FPS Commander in Portland says they are standing down and following GSA’s request to only intervene if there is a threat to public safety.

Peck responds:

Caitlin: yes, that is our position; it’s been vetted with our Administrator and Michael Robertson, our chief of staff, and we have communicated with the WH [White House], which has afforded us the discretion to fashion our approach to Occupy issues…The arrests last week were carried out despite our request that the protesters be allowed to remain and to camp overnight…

Occupy Portland is part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which has been beset with accusations of “crimes and dangerous behavior” during its protests.

According to the Oregonian, the week before this email exchange, on October 30, 2011, “Twenty-five Occupy Portland demonstrators were arrested…after refusing to leave Jamison Square. The arrests capped an intense hours-long standoff between police and dozens of protesters who refused to leave the Pearl District park after it was declared closed at midnight. Officers, some in riot gear and others on horses, faced off with protesters who remained in the square, despite being ordered to leave.” The protestors were reportedly arrested on accusations of “trespassing, interfering with a police officer and disorderly conduct for the noise complaints from neighbors.”

Robert Peck was at the center of a scandal involving the GSA in 2010, where the agency spent $823,000 on a lavish Las Vegas “training conference” that featured a clown, a mind reader and a $31,208 reception. Peck was fired as a result of the incident. Peck, who has donated thousands of dollars to Democrat candidates, including Barack Obama, was previously implicated in an unrelated GSA scandal for reportedly brokering a controversial lease deal for a Democratic donor and friend of former Vice President Al Gore. Per The Washington Examiner’s Mark Tapscott: “In Peck’s first go-round at GSA, controversy was sparked when it was learned that excessively high rent was being paid by the FCC to the owner of a building who also happened to be a Democratic donor. Peck was the official who made the deal possible.”

Peck was deposed by Judicial Watch today in a separate lawsuit on behalf of Linda Shenwick, a GSA whistleblower who Peck and others allegedly retaliated against because of Ms. Shenwick’s opposition to wasteful spending, such as parties, that have now caused so much controversy.

“We now have a new GSA scandal – one that involves the Obama White House,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents clearly show that federal agencies colluded with the Obama White House to allow the Occupy Wall Street protestors to violate the law with impunity. These documents tell us that the GSA and DHS can’t be relied upon to protect federal workers or property.”

[-] 3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 5 years ago

THis statement means nothing. NOTHING. Since Occupy, he has signed 3 new free trade deals, shoving it up the unions *ss even further. Signed for indef detention. And continues to bomb nations.

Nice post. How bout you go to some occupations and ask them if they have seen any proof?

Take your establishment campaign propaganda somewhere else. How long can you and the three amigos ignore the facts, the votes and the actions, and most importantly the people in the streets, and keep endorsing the status quo.

I guess until they stop paying you to....

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Nobody pays me! I just believe passionately that since we only have 2 choices for Pres we cannot choose the republican you appear to serve.

We must vote out the anti OWS republicans, Agitate all pols for the progressive solutions we need to recover from the disaster created by conservative policies.

So you WILL NOT silence me. And you WILL NOT chase me away.

I have every right to express my opinion. You continue to expend most of your energy trying to silence opinions you don't like! Step away from the fascist tactics! Stick to the issues. We need a free exchange of ideas even if they don't agree with HC.

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 5 years ago

No one needs to chase you away. The future is running in the opposite direction.

Have fun clinging to the status quo. It should still be around for at least a little while.

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 5 years ago

until the impending collapse lol. Soon...

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I am seeking to change the status quo, the Dem party, and the direction of the country through my support of OWS.

I have marched with them countless times.

Shouldn't you be marching against the RNC about now?

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

I hope the debates includes the Green Party an d the Peace and Freedom Party

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

What a joke. Well it springs eternal! 3rd parties have little chance of access to debates/or presidency because the 2 parties control them.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

the league of women voters used to set up the debates

not anymore

the 2 party candidates get more publicity from news than advertizing

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

It is pathetic. And it wasn't perfect before the parties took it over. But it is a joke. And definitely not real debates. And ought to include 3rd parties.

Obama's water boy, lost in the midst of an anarchic protest. How cute.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Non sense!

And YOU. Your wasting times pulling childish, hurtful pranks on people you disagree with (DK).

Time to grow up and realize whatever anarchistic roots exist here in OWS, many more millions who support us are Dems, and/or Dem leaning.

Repubs only attack us. Your ignoring these realities is sad and non productive.

Are you an anarchist?

[-] -2 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

Is DKA a little girl? She's cries when someone plays an innocent prank on her. Maybe it's time she grows up.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Are you using the female gender as some sort of slur of weakness?

Are you a sexist.? Are you also rape confused like your fellow sexists the republicans?

Jes aksin'!

[-] -1 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

No, DKAtoday is female.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You know that ain't true. You are attempting to cover for your sexism.

Since you didn't answer I guess you ARE rape confused like your fellow sexist republicans.

Well rape is rape. Women should get to choose what happens to their bodies. Not the church, & not the state.

[-] 0 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

Are you sick? You're talking about rape now? How did that come about in our conversation?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You were using sexist slurs. I connected that to your sexist republicans, who are most recently embroiled in rape confusion as a result of Sen candidate congressman Akin.

You refused to answer when I 1st made the connection and so I repeated it.

Upon repeat you appear to have woken up. Woo Hoo.

But still you haven't answered.

So. Does your sexism go so far as to include the rape confusion your fellow republicans share.?

[-] -1 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

I didn't use a sexist slur you idiot. DKAtoday is a woman so I referred to her as a little girl.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33472) from Coon Rapids, MN 5 years ago

Very funny trashy. I C U still are living in your little fantasy world. Escape from your keeper again?

[-] -1 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

Are you a woman or a man?

There's a number of users who told me you were a woman. Nothing wrong with that. If you're a man, then I'll change my tune. I'll call you a little boy crying.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You attack only pro progressive, anti republicans. YOU are the republican shill. And you are a sexist, and a liar just like your republican puppet masters.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I disagree! You're just trying to squirm out of the sexist slur you made. You have no honor!

[-] -2 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

Your not left wing. It's obvious. You're a republican. Who's paying you? How long have you been working to destroy OWS by turning it into political babble?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

no one told you dk was a female! I never told you DK cried. Just lies!

I told you, you were a sexist. And you are!

As well as a liar!

[-] -2 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

There are about four users that told me DKAtoday was a female.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33472) from Coon Rapids, MN 5 years ago

I am a man and you know that. What am I supposed to be crying about?

[-] 0 points by April (3196) 5 years ago

It's ok if you're female DK. I think we should embrace whatever sexual orientation we are. On a forum and everywhere else. I don't think we should hide our sexual orientation. I've only ever had a few bad encounters because of my sexuality. Some guys are just sexist jerks. Someone once suggested that I post with a username that is non gender specific. But I like being a girl. I don't want to be asexual. I think it's weird.

[-] -1 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

No, I didn't know you were a man. You never told me. A bunch of people told me you were a woman and I had no reason to doubt them.

VQkag2 said you cried when I played the trick on you the other day. You know, when I faked being OccupyWallSt and asked you to come to a conference.

The point was to show how this forum has no link to Occupy, and how Occupy doesn't care about what the people on this forum have to say. Sorry if I made you cry.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You're comment was a sexist slur! Does not matter what gender you think DK is!

Calling me an idiot confirms that I have hit your nerve of truth. And is just another example of your disrespect and hostility towards people.

Get a grip. Grow up!

Nothing on rape confusion.? You still haven't denounced your repub party confusion on this issue.

[-] 0 points by electron (-492) 5 years ago

You're an absolute idiot. If I wanted to show how immature you were, I would have said a little boy. DKAtoday is a woman, so I said a little girl.

How old are you? 18?

What this has to do with the republican party, I don't know.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You want my personal info in order to launch a personal attack? Thats always been your style?

How about your personal info. If you want others you should 1st offer yours.

Let's see since you are a sexist I suppose that means you're a man. You wanna offer anything else. Southerner? republican? Born again?

[-] 1 points by MaryS (678) 5 years ago

[-] 3 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

It's true. they will and have ignored this post. I keep bangin my head against the wall.

[-] 0 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 5 years ago

That's not true.

The only things I don't like Obama for are

the ties in his administration with Goldman Sachs

his ties to Monsanto

his acceptance of money from Wall Street

his signing of HR 347, the anti-protest bill

his signing of the republican jobs act, which repealed regulations on Wall Street set in place after ENRON fraud

his foreign policy that has had us bombing 5 countries in the past 12 months.

his continued use of Bush era bullshit like private mercenaries like Black Water still in Iraq and their hundred million dollar contracts for privatized mercenaries in Afghanistan.

his killing of American citizens without providing evidence of a crime or seeking due process.

Other than that I think he's peachy!!!!

But you guys will twist this into calling me a republican somehow. Which is dumb because republicans do this shit too. Which means I do not approve of the GOP either.

one good deed does not excuse murder.

In a dream world Obama would have been impeached last year and forced to resign for killing Americans. Then the democrats would vote for better options in the primaries.

But sadly killing Americans is acceptable in the year 2000 and beyond. Just look at yourself.... Do you give a shit that the government is assassinating American citizens without providing evidence of a crime?

[-] 4 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I am against killing people without trial outside of war. As such I am against the drone attacks.

I accept the massive reduction of military killings as proof the Pres is working toward the end of that civil rights violation.

I think that is a major part of our disagreement. As well as my contention you never put the blame where it belongs with the republicans who created and ramped up all these crimes. Instead you blame the guy who has reduced the use.

It's that simple. I'm against Pres Obama use of drone bombings and i recognize the progress he has made & I won't cover for repubs, I won't leave out republican responsibility for the roots and ongoing violations we are guilty of.

[-] 3 points by NVPHIL (664) 5 years ago

And don't forget his allowing indefinate detention without trial by the military via the NDAA

[-] -1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 5 years ago

Like I've said many times when you make that stupid assumption.... go read my posts.

Here's a few posts I've made about Romney

This one is hilarious - http://occupywallst.org/forum/finally-fox-news-says-something-right/

This is probably about half of them.

Most of my commentary is about the federal government. Think about that long and hard and maybe you will understand what's happening.

Click my name and read some more of my posts in my about me. Maybe it will save you from looking like a jack ass in the future.

Do you give a shit that the government is assassinating American citizens without providing evidence of a crime or using due process like the bill of rights entails?

All you do is change the subject to Romney and never talk about the issues I've presented that are FACTS. Change your name to OnlyFactsAboutAnythingOtherThanObamaAreFun

Party hack

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8733) from Phoenix, AZ 5 years ago

I give a shit about doing something, for you it is all about you and your hurt feelings over Obama, get over it, your ego is your enemy, you think if you can't run the whole thing then they don't deserve your support.

I care enough to hold my nose and do what needs to be done, like changing a diaper nobody likes it, but it has to get done.

So you come here and whine about what you can't do instead of inspire people about what they can.

(ps you and I both know, I'm better at this than any body the dems ever paid, so thanks for the compliment, but I wish...)

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 5 years ago

So protesting is whining?

All you care about is supporting the status quo of war... so much that you run a smear campaign on those who oppose war.

You're good at being wrong.

You are a prime example of ignorance in it's truest form. You ignore facts.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

That would be nice. I would support it.

Good way to lose an election in this right wing war mongering country that repubs have nurtured with 9/11 exploitation and fear mongering.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

I don't believe the people support war

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Most people may not. I do not! But most will see a cease fire as weak on defense because of the thorough labeling the repubs have done in the last 40 years.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

I doubt that for the very reason that no one would expect it

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

If only. That would be marvelous. Ain't gonna happen. To risky politically. If repubs don't succeed at stealing the election and Obama wins I believe and hope we will see further progress towards undoing the fear mongering, and war mongering that the republicans have infected us with.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

Obama is not excused from warmongering

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I do not see him as you do. Bush was a war mongerer, Pres Obama is vastly different so the same word can not apply.

I see Pres Obama as having started the long slow process of undoing the fear mongering and war mongering that repubs have infected us with since they exploited the 9/11 attacks.

but I think we know that we disagree on that.

This is a good thing for Occupy, seize this window of opportunity. I think Obama is doing this for his own political game, it's populism. In an election season, he's harnessing the power of the wind. It's a clear strategy against Romney, and exactly what I would do in his position. Well played Mr. Obama, well played..

Beware though, as soon as the political advantages and expediency have worn off for his campaign, the protection will go away as well. Like I said, this is a window of opportunity, but the media will do it's best to distort the message to their own ends.

Put not your trust in princes...

[-] 8 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Yeah He ain't doin this 'cause he believs in oWS. Son of a bitch. He's a low life. I bet he hid the documents too so they could be found and he would look like he was NOT trying to pander to the 99%.

Devious, I guess anything good that Pres Obama does is only to get votes and any failure is just his evilness.

I got it. Thanks

[-] -1 points by kaiserw (211) 5 years ago

Trust him if you want. Whatever. I know I wouldn't even trust myself with that much power. Did you ever read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings?.. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Does that ring a bell?

[-] 6 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Know it well. The statement I think is older than LOTR.

I just find it interesting that for some people anything positive is not an honest effort but the negative is seen & accepted everywhere.

Do you feel the same about the other party? Or just the Dems.

[-] 0 points by kaiserw (211) 5 years ago

Of course I think the same of the other party. To see someone like McCain who served as a combat officer in the Navy, was tortured and a POW, to turn treason on the American people with the NDAA. It's absolutely sick. The Neocons are pure evil and have been worse as far as body count, the Iraq war, and the setup of the Patriot act. At least the dems used to seem to have good intentions, but now there aren't hardly on either side that will stand up for civil liberties. Things need to change quick and substantially, or we'll end up in a civil war. That's why occupy is so important. This may be our last chance.

[-] 6 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I agree with most of that. I do not think there is real risk of civil warbecause too many Americans are fat & happy. But eventually if we don't make real change we could see more & more people in trouble and then a possible civil war.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

[-] 2 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

I'm with Kaiserw on this one, it's an election season, so expect to hear some fluff... I mean, Obama had many many opportunities to enact regulations on wall street, to make any kind of serious change in the game they are playing. He gave them golden parachutes and made minor changes that have already begun to expire...

Whatever push OWS makes to regulate wall street, to get electoral reform, to pass liberal agendas, it can't just be a free ride! Put their feet to the fire!

One great group is the new progressive alliance (newprogs.com I think) and they have a unified platform fairly similar to ones you'd see at OWS or green party and such, and they are getting candidates to endorse the platform openly. OWS can help them, or do similar such work, make a unified platform, some important key elements (electoral reform, lobbying reform, wall street regulation) and spend the rest of the election trying to get people to publicly endorse it and stick to it. Seems the most logical to me anyway, and you can publicly endorse greens and ds, so long as they are progressive enough.

I am now certain that VQ is posing as an Occupy supporter in order to set a partisan narrative that Occupy is a democratic party movement. Not by individual conversion but by flooding this forum with material that would leave visitors with such an impression.

In this article that has no links or citations, states that the White House gave the power of discretion to GSA but VQ has equated this to support, which is not based on fact.

VQ has been asked time and time again to refrain from partisan baiting yet refuses to do so. If VQ actually believed Occupy was beneficial to the Democratic party, VQ would be doing what all other Dems are doing, that is to seduce independents and undecideds. VQ and everyone on this forum knows, that can not be done with relentless partisan attacks.

The evidence that VQ is a subversive is staring this forum right in the face.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

This is ridiculous. I am a soldier fighting for the poor for all my 49 years. OWS is a progressive movement I have lent my body and support to many actions in the last 10 months. OWS is not partisan. I am partisan. I am anti republican partisan. I make no bones about it.

There ain't nothing wrong with being anti republican partisan! The republicans and their tinkle down, weak regulation, wealthy tax cuts policies are at the root of all our problems.

I know it. I will continue spreading that truth, and you & OWS, & any one else can read it, or not read, agree, or disagree! I am free to do so. There is an election in 75 days. I intend to remind people of that until it is over.

Nothing wrong with that either. I don't stop anyone from pursueing other actions. Today I was at a protest against fracking and Dem gov Cuomo. Not OWS but still worthy and not detrimental to OWS. I can do many things. And the people who ran the anti fracking protest were not threatened because I am independent, or Pro progressive, or have marched with OWS.

Your comments here are just an attack on someone you disagree with. You should be adult. Our positions, ideas can compete in the market place of ideas. I'm willing to let my ideas speak for themselves. I do not have to resort to some personal attack singling you or any of your other anti dem friends. I will meet your partisanship with my own and we will let everyone decide for themselves.

The article is written by "judicial watch" it's there in the 1st paragraph. Look it up but don't try to discredit it because you don't like the truth.

And no one of authority has ever asked my to stop anything in all the months I've been on this site. So that is just a lie, and you should stick with the truth. It is life affirming.

Peace Elect progressives, Vote out rape confused republicans

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 5 years ago

BS. I've seen you and some other party preachers making the same "Moral Authority" "I'm a protester, trust me" B.S. arguments to justify your partisan crap. I've read several posts just today with this same approach, as if you all just learned a new trick. If I ask you for a pic, you'll no doubt produce something. The character of your comments are speaking louder than the content.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

"A pic"? What is this a dating site?

The character of my comments are anti conservative/republican! I don't know what "moral authority" you are referring to but I'm not trying to preach. I'm just trying to counter the fallacies that "the parties are the same" (They ain't), & the unfair, inaccurate anti dem partisan attacks on Pres Obama!

I'm always defending myself from personal attacks. I'm allowed to express myself!

Please stop trying to silence me. Make an argument against my arguments. Seems people have forgotten how to debate. We've been taught be our politicians, and talk radio that it is fair to personally attack our debate opponent. It's not. It means you have exhausted all substantive arguments.

I win

the democrat in flood of support on OWS is due to the election desperation

and the failure of either party to capture the public interest

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

All the more reason OWS should be flooding the third parties!

I'd like to see the "stand down" emails regarding Goldman Sacks.

[-] 7 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Not likely to find that. Great disappointment not putting those criminals away.

We need to repeal the republican created regulations/laws that allow their behavior to handled with only fines.

I think we should bring Obama way way back to where he said he would be, in the political center.

By getting behind Rocky.

At the last moment vote Obama--after concessions (universal Health, election finance reform, free education to grade 14, and a cabinet position for Rocky Anderson)

We still have hope: a reasonable alternative to the crazy system (our last 12 years) Rocky Anderson is on ballot in many states, and he praised Ows as idealistic courageous and convergent with his positions (4th LINK) His strategy is through social media, as the egyptian s did, wants a revo. Against duopoly. If we met up in public forums, parks, and championed his candidacy, that's freedom of speech. How could that be shut down. And everyone emailed, wrote everyone they know, everyone in the phone book, but keep it optimistic, have kids there, etc pro family and worker.

It was cool to the public when you occupied. Real not staged. For those who know in their soul the system has deep problems, it was inspiring.

Can WE occupy central park(s) and spread the message there, even if it is daily. It was cool you were out in public standing up.

It's just whole country feels conservative, cause cons keep repeative Obama is communist.

OWS was so fast, and not well covered in main media, for most part. I think it was raising awareness, especially when the police got out of line, but now it is easy for public to ignore, and for many they may believe it has faded away:((

Make it mainstream, and save our ideals and country from sold-out and the cons.

[-] 5 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Sounds great. Good luck in all your good efforts. I will look into Rocky.

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

Rocky is a good man, I'll still vote Green, but there absolutely needs to be a stand for Electoral Reform, which is the only thing that could end the two party duopoly. If groups start building up steam, the key will be in unifying different dissenting groups into a cohesive argument of "'we demand better representation"

Fairvote.org has lots of good information, and groups like the New Progressives Alliance make it a crucial part of their campaign. I feel like I'm slamming my head against a brick wall trying to talk to Tea Partiers or Occupiers about making it the central goal. To me, it seems the only way to stop the two party duopoly, and I know that all the other presidential candidates would agree....

Absolutetly whole country needs to facilitate for more parties and voices to get access to state ballots.

Here in WA state, libertarians sued to get Romney off the ballot, but were not successful

we have to state by state, organize to get these parties onto all state's elections. Justice party in WA says it will run more people for state and local level.

It should be easily doable with techonolgy to help.

I'd gather signatures.

it is tough to get all boats sailing in the same direction

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

I read green support election holidays

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

Yup, everyone should be able to vote, only way is if its a paid holiday. And it should be celebrated!

Obama's operatives are smart enough to know that their electoral base is also Occupy's base. They want to play nice if they can.

[-] 6 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

fair enough

[-] 6 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

It's a tricky thing getting elected in America. OWS certainly is representative of the base but so much of the country has moved right for 30 years you have to present yourself as tough on crime, tough on military, not for helping the poor. (Obama rarely if ever SAYS poor). Because he CAN'T if he wants to get elected. So much of the country is just selfish heartless people. Maybe if we repealed the elctoral college we might get a better representation of what all people feel and not have to cater to the people in the big empty states.

I'm rambling. Let me stop.

[-] 3 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You don't think they are guided by principle? must be base political calculation?

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

Yes, and they keep coming into OWS and onto these forums to say "A vote for third party is a vote for Romney!" "Vote for the status quo if you want real change!"

[-] 1 points by frogmanofborneo (602) from New York, NY 5 years ago

Well, I have a dog in this fight. Maybe you don't. I want the racists to be beaten. I want the gay bashers to be beaten. I want the rapists to be beaten. I want a chance at saving medicare, medicaid and social security. I want the right wing momentum to be stopped.

Obama is part of a corrupt party which is only interested in stealing from the people.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Nah that's ridiculous. Your talkin about the republicans I think you are un stable. Take a rest.

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

This is why people accuse you of being a party hack... because he definitely was talking about the Ds, and plenty of bad things the Ds have done recently...

Rs are worse, nobody is making that argument.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

You think I come here for popularity? Maybe that's why you do, but I am here :

  • To support positive solutions that can improve the lives of the 99%

  • To challenge the fallacy that the "parties are the same" they Ain't!

  • To challenge unfair attacks on the Dems who are our natural supporters, and who stand against the natural supporters of the 1% plutocrats. (enemy of my enemy is my friend)

  • To convince all reasonable people that repub/conservative policies are at the root of all our problems.

I'm not pretending I am anything else. I support the efforts to create a new system, from the ground up, horizontal, which includes real direct democracy. I've recommended an experimental dry run. No takers.

When it emerges (& I'm sure the non partisan anarchists are working feverishly on it) I will be there to support it. I support OWS in many ways, 1st and foremost with my body on the front line, in the street!

So think what you will. I will assume in fact you speak for only you and I will dismiss your opinion as irrelevant to all these much more important issues.

My advise is to focus less on calling me names (hack) in an effort to silence me. And focus on positive solutions you think might improve the lives of the 99%.

[-] 2 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

I haven't called you names, I find you to be quite genuine. I admitted that the other guy was unsubstantiated in his anti Obama claim, and I've seen others referring to you as too hard on the party-line. But you're very honest about it.

I wrote in another post in response to Ds or Greens in the election, and honestly it's something that ows should really be on both sides of..., But I like the new progressive alliance approach, www.newprogs.com I think, and tha'ts to make a unified platform, get as many candidates of any party to endorse it as possible, and push it non-stop until the election. Either you get more progressive Ds, you get Greens, or you've at least moved the middle ground, the range of debate, a little to the left.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

I like that concept a lot. It is based on policies/ideas. And maybe It can be a mechanism to get pols "on the record". It can be used to protest against particular pols who refuse, or agree then renege. The reality is that real change will take years and hard work. Real change will require an active growing movement that pressures our leaders to serve the needs of the 99%. I will check out your newprogs.com.

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

newprogs.org i found, and I'll take this to some working groups to see if we can't get the ball rolling to get ows on board with this or similar..

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 5 years ago

Good luck in all your good work

[-] 1 points by ElectoralReform (73) 5 years ago

Although I guess he was also unsubstantiated, so meh

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 5 years ago

I heard the san diego repub party head declare

the unifying factor among republicans is getting rid of Obama

like I said republicans have no platform

[-] 1 points by repubsRtheprob (1209) 5 years ago

They have a platform. It is anti 99%. Everyone should read it!
