Nemesis is in the neighborhood...
Nemesis led Narcissus to the pond to look at his reflection where he promptly jumped in and drown. Nemesis was the ancient Greek goddess of revenge, the punisher of arrogance and hubris in human beings. Nemesis is here, very few people noticed her arrival, and she's just waiting to carry out her divine mission.
The late Chalmers Johnson dedicated the last quarter of his life to these issues, and the issues plaguing the United States, namely the problems of empire. The political system in the United States today is as history tells us, one of the most unstable political systems there is. Domestic republican democracy and the foreign empire. A country can only remain one or the other, but can't be both.
Like the Roman Republic, if the US stays with imperialism, as much of the US foundational structure was based on Rome, the US will revert to a domestic dictatorship, and that point is rapidly approaching.
To maintain an empire requires a huge standing Army, huge expenditures on arms that leads to a military industrial complex. Generally speaking, a vicious cycle sets up that leads to a endless cycle of wars. President Washington warned very clearly of the dangers of standing armies as the great enemy of the republic and liberty.
The military industrial complex draws power and money to Washington D.C., then draws to the presidency, which then is drawn to an Imperial presidency, which then provides for the military's desire for secrecy making oversight of the Federal Government virtually impossible for a Congressman, let alone a private citizen.
This is the same warning given by President Eisenhower in his 1961 farewell address. He was truly alarmed by the large arms industry, beyond supervision, the lunatic oversupply of nuclear warheads, collusion between government and the arms industry, by which he termed the phrase: "The Military Congressional Industrial Complex", which was warned off by members of congress resulting in the term "The Military Industrial Complex". It was only at the end of his term that he realized what a monster that he created.
According to the Unclassified "Base Structure Report" the United States maintains 737 American military bases around the globe, on every continent and in well over 130 countries. On Okinawa, a very small island, smaller than the Hawaiian island of Kauai, population one million three hundred odd thousand Okinawans, there are 37 military bases there. The protest of these bases and troops has been endemic for over 50 years. It has been an endless, non-stop campaign of rapes, bar brawls, helicopters crashing on the college campus, unbelievable contamination by depleted uranium rounds into the surrounding mountains, hit and run accidents, one thing after another. Okinawa is unfortunately is not unusual, it is typical.
Imperialism is a form of tyranny. It never rules under the consent of the governed, it does not ask the consent of the governed. We talk about the spread of democracy, but it is instead the spread of puppet governments at the end of a rifle. It is a contradiction in terms. It doesn't work. Any self respecting person being "democratized" in this manner starts thinking of retaliation.
The CIA is a private secret army of the President of the United States that has steadily increased it's activity and power over the last 50 years. It has NO oversight, and operates entirely at the discretion of the President.
The US CIA has been documented to send detainees to countries like Egypt, and secret prisons all over the world to be tortured for information and killed.
One notable arrangement is set up with the CIA and Uzbekistan where special prisoners are raped with broken bottles, and boiled alive, having their children tortured in front of them until they say something of interest or sign a confession, then they are usually killed
The CIA has a well documented history of operating torture camps in South and Central America as well as around the world. The use of electric shock and other methods are trained to the locals by CIA natives, then supervised by the same agents, so as not to get their hands dirty.
If the United States is not reigned in by the people while there is still a little time left, these same tactics will increasingly be turned inward. It is a historical fact. OWS, and other protest movements must be successful, because if not, it will inevitably end in World War, bloody civil war or both, and the prosecution and murder of countless innocent civilians and children.
Americans have had the notion pounded into their minds that they are Special and Different. They cannot understand that the 1% has a plan for the 99%-and it does not involve treatment that differs in any way from that dished out to protesters who were boiled in oil Uzbekistan,Okinawan schoolgirls gang raped,Pakistanis slaughtered by drones on their wedding day-or Ken SaraWiwa and 8 other Agoni activists executed on the orders of Big Oil.There is about to be a huge struggle right here in New York State because here we are.We Upstaters, abandonned to industrial decay so many years ago,are suddenly important. We are sitting on top of something the Corporations want. They will do anything to overrule our objections, take away our rights and get us right the fuck out of their way so they can take what they want.We will be treated the same way the people are treated in the Niger Delta. We will be destroyed, and our land will be destroyed and when the gas has been extracted, the Corporations will leave. The gas holes will tap out in 10 years.I know of no power on earth that can stop this from happening, not only here but all over the country.Still, the process must be resisted.
The only power on earth that can stop it is to educate your friends, neighbors, and strangers. Once enough people know about the game, the lies will no longer work, it will cross a tipping point, and it can end peacefully. The other options are ugly.
Yes, that is my assessment of Americans as well. Most Americans suffer from a lack of global perspective, and normalcy / hindsight bias. If these tactics are allowed to continue to be turned inward, your country will explode in a storm of violence. It may even look something like the french revolution if allowed to go on long enough. Americans I have spoken with are fuming inside. If this societal anger is not allowed to escape safely and constructively through reform, the country risks an epic detonation.
There's a lot of good videos of Chalmers Johnson on youtube.
Chalmers Johnson is one of my idols-I have read the 3 volumes of the Blowback series.I wish I still had the books but I made a gift of them to my father who spent his life as a Cold War Spear Carrier. After he retired, his moderately left wing sympathies fell by the wayside and he became an anarchist.I remain intrigued by Nemesis-it is interesting that she remains invisible to those she is about to destroy until the very last second.Nemesis was also the goddess worshipped by the gladiators of Roman Antiquity.
Yes, he is a great man! The amazing work he has done for this country should justify the medal of honor. I just hope more people listen to his message.
