Occupy Forum will be shutting down

Posted 9 years ago on Feb. 5, 2015, 12:31 p.m. EST by jart (1186) from New York, NY

Update: I've decided to not shut it down.

I'm going to be shutting down these forums soon, so please make peace with the friends you've made here in the upcoming days. Please consider moving to r/occupywallstreet which is a very similar and still active online occupy community.

The reason why I'm shutting this forum down, is because I simply don't have time for it anymore. I don't hang out here. No one pays me to do this. In many ways it's become a liability, because I get angry threatening emails from forum users. I also have to pay hundreds of dollars a month to keep it going.

I'm happy to have served you guys over the years, but I'm sorry, I just can't do it anymore.

The content of this forum will continue to be made available online indefinitely.

You should bother because you started this thing, and it was a remarkable and wonderful thing you started. The fact that your politics have moved away from Occupy's is not ours, this forum's or this website's fault. You have connections. Why don't you find someone to take it over who might be interested and who has the ability? Someone who cares about the 99%?

I really like SerfingUSA's ideas and why not consider giving it to BradB if he has the wherewithall to manage it?

The archive here belongs to the 99%, and in my opinion, is the most important aspect of occupywallst.org and it should be maintained at all costs.

And, you should know that we do and did appreciate all you did for the forum. Have you any idea how sad it makes us that you don't care about it anymore and that it's been neglected? We've been trying to keep it alive but with a closed sign up it's been difficult. If it is money you need to keep the url going let us know. We haven't been here all these years for no reason. We care very much.

[-] 3 points by Rollo (60) 9 years ago

If this is jart's forum, why was the address ever "occupywallst.org/forum"? Why not "jart.org/forum"? I imagine not too many would have visited that forum.

Obviously the occupy founders did not have much business savvy to allow their organization's website to be pirated by one individual.

I'm sure Google will never let jart get away with pirating work she does for them. . Rest assured all work jart does for Google is fully owned and completely under Google's corporate domain.

[-] 6 points by windyacres (1197) 9 years ago

It does seem as though something could be worked out for the site to survive, adapt, etc.

[-] 4 points by beautifulworld (23769) 9 years ago

Why? Because revolutions are messy. There is no playbook on how to conduct a revolution especially in the information age. We and jart all did and are doing our best. Peace and solidarity to you.

[-] 3 points by jart (1186) from New York, NY 9 years ago

You're going to make me cry.

[-] 5 points by gsw (3407) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 9 years ago

I wish to thank you for this wonderful informative site, and the narrative and documents and information has been a wonderful chronicle of history, but yes, the way people get all worked up and tke things to personal level has been frustration, and big issue.

Sorry it's become a bummer. Could you consider to pass it on somehow to some responsible person, such as BradB or Beautiful world. Maybe we should consider to pay you for your time.

Yes many people have expressed much rudeness, here. The right wing forum I peeked at really had some strict rules on ethical expression.

Thanks for your time and work. I will very much miss this site. I think you might consider to give let it self fund or something.

Sorry we weren't nicer to each other

[-] 3 points by jart (1186) from New York, NY 9 years ago

Thank you so much. I'm happy I could have served you over the years. I'm sorry to see things end like this.

[-] 5 points by mayda (285) 9 years ago

But why ''end like this'' at all ? Why can't you hand the forum over to people who still care about it ? However - many thanx for continued content access & clarification about that would be appreciated.

pax et lux ...

that response is not believable - if you are sorry it has to end like this then why end it. i find it hard to believe that there is no way to keep this going - i can understand why you would not want to be involved with this anymore - i find myself feeling that way sometimes. the history of the left is full of this type of thing - what a shame. oh well - seems you have your mind made up but you and brian williams have lost some street cred

[-] 3 points by gsw (3407) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 9 years ago

I really am thankful you created this site, and let me see through this prism the complexity of issues our nation and world face, but then equally to be provided some hope as to somehow in some way, making the world better.

I have to do this first in my family, with my partner and lovely hearted wife, and try to create our better world, by most often putting her needs as the priority, and then everything else falls into place, everything can happen, my world can be better.

I think if people here might put aside their ego a bit, and look to the needs and hopes of " the other" more understanding and accomplishment would present itself. However often here it seems the opposite, that many want to be the top dog. Instead of co-creating a new world, they want to prescribe.one, and how to get there.

I think in smaller incremental steps we can have hope to reach some more possible immediate goal, such as a fairer tax system the president alluded to in the state of the Union message. But it would not be an easy thing to achieve with this congress, near impossible. But the possibility of hope has been floated to us as a nation once again by Obama, on a good day.

I am sorry all the rancor and back biting of those at this site can lead to its collapse. It is a big shame for the world, as the information provided by just one poster may reach many potentially here, and also there is some fun and drama too.

I hope you might try to consider the sites huge impacts it may still have, and has had, on the individuals who still tune in. This has been a great bridge to the individual, and provided some hope that one may still dream, not alone.

Thanks so much. I peck this on my device, sorry for the bad composition. Thanks so much for your efforts and good works.

That is what it should be about, the selfless sacrifice four your creation, this site.

Otherwise, your CEO, Larry Page, would not have become a FILTHY DISGUSTING RICH WEALTH CONCENTRATING POVERTY AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC INSTABILITY CAUSING MULTI-DECA-BILLIONAIRE 1% PIG.

There goes another line of your SOLD OUT 1% FAKE OCCUPIER CRAP.

JUSTINE TUNNEY YOU ARE A FRAUD.

By the way, what did you get in return for that stunt you pulled in the election year of 2014?

HOW MUCH DID YOU GET PAID IN RETURN FOR SUGGESTING THAT YOUR BOSS BE APPOINTED CEO OF AMERICA?

No answer? That's what I thought.

Now go concentrate some more wealth you DISGUSTING SOLD OUT PIG.

The two people you suggest have been at the forefront of rudeness I recall not long ago when BW, agreed with calling people names, for many here it is very rude to ask simple questions, like why let the GOP win? trying to get an answer to that question has resulted in incredible rudeness from both of these people and many others.

But then OWS has always been about rudeness hasn't it?

Re. "angry threatening emails" - you certainly should never have to put up with those, so .. name names jart so that the annals of infamy can be duly updated and inscribed with the names &/or monikers of the perpetrators.

Re. ''I'm going to be shutting down these forums soon'' and ... So explain to me why I should continue bothering?'' ... hmmm, you sound a li'l conflicted & perhaps a li'l clarification from you re. ''I don't have anything in common with you people.'' is in order ? Meanwhile ...

I was capriciously removed twice - as 'shadz66' back in summer 2014 when Trashymanque' massively disrupted the forum, when you were around & again in early January as 'ShadzSixtySix'. Like so many others, I've put work in on the forum over the last 3 & half years & am not given to being treated with this level of caprice & disdain. No doubt you are busy with all your stuff - but I am wondering just how you'd take being treated so poorly. Not laying down - is my guess.

Thus I was going to join ask.fm and take these matters there and to the public Twitter, but of course you blocked me there. I did though have a very small exchange with you on Twitter where I referenced 'forum difficulties' but nought came of it before tho' now your mind seems made up. I was not looking for drama .. just the the forum sign-up restored & we could have 'modded' it ourselves but I wasn't about to slink off and just leave the forum without any kind of stated rhyme or reason.

So restore the forum 'Sign Up' and hand the forum over to someone who cares about it & then we're out of your hair. There are 50+ people who still occasionally though with less & less frequency, post on the forum. IF the actual intention is to take down the forum because it no longer chimes with your personal politics, then it would be more honourable to front up and just say so.

I don't doubt at all that you are a very busy person but you were once also busy for The 99% when you identified with them but these days by your own estimation, your are a 'Neo-Reactionary'. To be clear - I'm NOT asking for explanations or anything like that; all we ask is for the 'Forum Sign Up' page to be restored & we'll look after ourselves from there without hassling you.

You did a good thing for The 99% once jart. I'm sorry for how things turned out between you & OWS but we on The Forum were not the cause of that and neither are The 99%. Good luck & best wishes with all you do & wherever you do it .. but Do The Right Thing now please & release the forum to those who still believe in Occupying Wall Street for The 99%. Finally, reflect upon ...

“If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” (Samuel Adams) & ...

''For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Matthew 16: 26)

pax, amor et lux et per ardua ad astra ...

===========================================================================

From Shadz ; 'ShadzSixtySix' ; shadz66 .. a wannabe friend of the forum, Americans & The Global 99% and with a special thanx to those who know already who they are & to flip and his lady wife 'mayda' - in particular, for enabling this probable swansong :-(

Hey everyone.

Before the forum shuts down, I wanted to make sure you all know just how much I appreciate your beautiful heartfelt work here and your loving connection to your fellow human beings.

As far as my awakening to how a society 'richly steeped in love and dignity' in the global arena, should and could be...this forum is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me.

To you, Jart...Thank you, for the positives. That this forum happened at all in the current global landscape we find ourselves in, is amazing.

And so, to you, dear ones...with a heavy heart, hopeful spirit, and much happiness that I was lucky enough to know you and be a part of this forum, I'd like to say... Thank you.

Same to you, Renneye, all the very best.

Though the forum has been sold out, the movement lives on. The meme of inequality and the 99% vs. the 1% echos throughout America and the entire world. Occupy is responsible for that. Long live Occupy!

Keep the forum open as this is the light that shines in the dark.

As far as having nothing in common, what happened to giving a place and voice to speak? This place is worth more than money. No?

You have given much here. Cheers and hope inequality is now sometime spoken of.

Sorry everyone likes to divide here. I don't think ows sought such subdivisions and personal attacks. I apologize for the rancor. I always thought there should be some more unity and positive vibe,

I have a few questions, Justine.

How soon are you planning on doing this? I'm sure there are a few users that might want to copy their posts, important PM's and links, etc. Are we talking a few days, or a few weeks?

How many hours, literally, do you spend a week managing this site? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I know absolutely nothing about running a site, so I'm being completely sincere. I'm sure tweaking the code occasionally is necessary, and how much time is spent answering email? I think there are people here that would be willing to take a more proactive role if it meant saving the site. Maybe someone would be willing to take on some of these task, maybe on a rotating basis. And a few users here have already been working on alternate sites, like Brad. Talk to them, could the forum portion of this site (and the archives, hopefully) be incorporated there?

How much traffic does the forum itself get? I'm curious about how much a month it would cost as far as bandwidth and such. What's the domain name worth? Why not sell it rather than shut it down entirely? What would it take to give or donate it to some entity; is a co-op out of the question? Let's talk about this, guys.

I know this sounds like "Twenty Questions" but I'm just trying to get some info about what's actually involved in managing the forum, time and money, and trying to think of other options as opposed to just killing it. And I'd seriously like to hear others opinions, too, especially older users who haven't posted in a while, if they're still around. And not these damn eulogies that have started this thread.

And I'd like to especially hear from you, jart.

Edit: I'm just curious about the time and money aspect when it comes to the forum itself, of course, not the entire website.

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 9 years ago

Very good questions, gno. Wow, what a shocker. I just got home and checked in to see a forum post like this.

But, perhaps its a good thing. Maybe now a discussion can be held with jart about the things you mention above. There is so much that can be done with this forum if jart would negotiate. A lot of benefit could come to her as well with no need for her to be bothered even slightly with the day to day work. This has been discussed here in great detail before. I'll have to dig up the specific threads that address the issue.

BTW...it's great to see you on the forum again. :-)

[-] 3 points by SerfingUSA (451) 9 years ago

I think shared Community forum moderator chores could be easily achieved here.

  • have a team of senior moderators. Such as: beautifulworld, Renneye, Johannus, shadz, turbocharger. Allow them 'consensus' final authority to permanently ban users, remove comments, respond to disputes, etc.

  • authorize any user having more than 1000 points to have 'junior moderator' powers. Following a list of guidelines, these users could immediately, but only 'temporarily' remove comments. Their actions would be sent on queue pending 'senior moderator' final judgement. If the action is deem incorrect the comment would be restored and the jr moderator's misjudgement recorded.

  • any junior moderator misusing or making a number of poor censorship judgements would have their moderator ability disabled by senior moderator consensus.

  • senior moderators misusing or having poor censorship judgement could have moderation privileges revoked by majority consensus of fellow senior moderators.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Leave it to you to forward your stinkle/twinkle disinformation cronies (Johannus, turbocharger) to take over.

Advice: Create your own post on that topic. You can discuss to your hearts content "there" - at least until the forum shuts down.

I suggest the best use of comments on "this" Forum Shutdown Notice Post from jart - would be to make any comments you have for her to consider - make them directly to her and thereby not junk up this post with conversations with each-other that you could have elsewhere.

hey Jart :) again....

if this site does shut down... which i hope it don't ... but understand if it does....

maybe we can just shut down the new posting capabilities ... and leave the existing content in tact for a while ... there IS some very good info here .... amiss all the chatter ...

anyway .... I do have some new sites close to up and running ... which were born from what I learned here, the nycga site & OmidyarNetwork....

my sites were not meant to.. replace this site... but merely provide indexing tools to allow those who wish to filter out the chatter... and unite other sites in same effort ....

anyway... regardless of what happens here... please stop in and peek once in a while ...:)

here's the future links ... OccupyFAQs.com ... ThePeoplesVeto.com & SmashBull.com .hopefully within the month I'll have them up ... peace B

[-] 4 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 9 years ago

Hey, Brad.

You actually posted that to me instead, but I'm sure she'll see it regardless. By the way, I just bookmarked all three of your sites for future reference. And someone else here has a site with links to most other Occupy sites, but I haven't been there in a while so I don't remember who it was. I'm sure someone else here knows, tho. Good for future reference.

And I know Builder set up a site a while back. It doesn't have any content yet and doesn't have an Occupy-related title (although that could be changed) but I think he set it back up for the express purpose of having a back-up site, if we ever needed it. I've got the link buried here somewhere, but I'll dig it out later tonight and post it here. Every little bit helps.

[-] 2 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 9 years ago

yeah... it was reply to both you & Jart :)

[-] 4 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 9 years ago

That's cool.

I'll be logging off till this evening, but I hope this discussion generates a lot of comments and suggestions while I'm gone. I for one, don't want to see the site go and I'm willing to do my part to help keep it alive, or transition it to another site so it can continue on, ideally with a link to and from this site.

Jart,

Many, many, many thanks are in order. Thank you for giving us Americans a voice who felt we never had one. Thank you for allowing me, personally, to find a community where I felt I fit in. Thank you for changing my life in a way I can't even describe to anyone here. Thank you for creating a slice of social history that will live into posterity and for letting us all be a part of it.

If it wasn't for your coding skills and dedication and intrepid brilliance to start st.org, this place wouldn't exist. I've looked at reddit and other forums and, to be honest, this place is so well run. It operates smoothly bar the crazy loons that have shown up here from time to time. It is so user friendly and easy to understand and search and those are probably the reasons why the people who post here are mainly a little older. So, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Here we have another perfect example. A victim kissing the ass of a predator. Blind celebrity worship in spite of total and fundamental betrayal on the part of the celebrity.

I sure as hell won't ever be happy knowing how incredibly futile the cause is, in part, because of the profound naïveté of millions, beautifulworld being another perfect example, but I sure as hell will die knowing that I gave the cause my very best never wavering, watering down the 1% mantra, selling out or allowing total frauds like jart to have an effect on me remotely resembling the effect had on beautifulworld.

Flip is right, jart...along with many others who have voiced this opinion. It doesn't have to end at all. That much is undeniably clear, to any observer.

It is my opinion that you are being painfully harassed in private PMs by at least one and possibly two of the long time regulars here. If that is the case, then ban them. As a rule, I don't like banning, but it stops at harassment. No-one should be able to bring harm or fear of any kind to another human being. If a person insists on harassing you or anyone else here, they've lost the privilege of being here. Period.

Personal threats and harassment against you should of course be handled by the police, and publicly for the safest outcome. You must have been aware on some level that a person who sets up a site such as this with the potential of taking a gazillion dollars, and even more so, obscene amounts of power out of the hands of the elite banksters and oligarchs would put you in a rather vulnerable position. I imagine the idea of anyone bringing the .01% and their casino/mafioso welfare system to their knees is not smiled upon in the top echelons. You know me, the shadows is where political and global decisions are truly made, so that's where my mind tends to go...the root of the 99%'s problems. I'm guessing that there are more reasons why you're closing the forum down than what you've stated that we're not privy to. But I'll refrain from the conspiratorial. Heheh! Regardless, of why, in maintaining this forum you must have encountered many difficulties and frustrations.

Let us take this burden off your shoulders, Justine. We're willing to take the actions needed and spread the work and the risk out between a larger and thus less vulnerable group of committed people. Even without the harassment, your initial commitment and work contribution to the 99% with this forum is more than most people would achieve in a lifetime, and has understandably rendered you tired. I (we) understand completely why you can't keep going with it. No ONE person can do it all. So, I implore you to pass the forum over to those of us who want to keep it going and take it to the next level. You've more than done your part. It's time to pass the baton.

This is as close to begging as I get, Justine. I don't mind, because ultimately, humanity is the love of my life...and, short of hurting anyone, I'll do whatever it takes.

Consider this. Direct Democracy via a responsible large-scale co-operative is what will eventually happen anyway. Someone will start this momentous large-scale project regardless of what plays out here. Why not be a huge and integral part of how that happened?

What are the oligarchs most afraid of? Direct (participatory) Democracy. Occupy Wall Street and this forum can help a massive span of humanity in a very profound, very tangible way, with a massive co-operative. Quite possibly the biggest, farthest reaching responsible co-operative in the history of the world. Having as little or as much involvement as you want, simply by passing on the forum, YOU can be instrumental in letting anyone, anywhere take care of their families via a good income, providing them with the freedom to live a life of happiness and dignity. YOU can do that. WHY would you close the door on that? At least if you pass the forum on to good intentioned, creative, qualified, energetic people there's an excellent chance that that can happen. Shutting the forum down makes the chance for a successful (direct democracy) co-operative for humanity exponentially smaller. Occupy and the work that you started here, is by far, the best foundation from which to build a society OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE.

Please pass the baton and let us continue your work.

I openly invite you to talk with us in whatever way you want... and welcome the opportunity to discuss the possibilities.

Be well & be safe, and all the very best to you.

[-] 3 points by Renneye (3874) 9 years ago

Hello jart.

If you're truly going to shut down the forum, then I'll miss this place tremendously for myself and all of humanity, and I'll cry later, but not now...because quite frankly, I'm ticked. If this is sincere, and the site's going down, then I've got nothing to lose in telling you my opinion.

I've read some of your on-line descriptions of yourself, and given that you've labelled yourself as being 'dark', your self-ascribed penchant for Machiavelli and now this tangle of reasons why you don't want to continue to provide this forum...this 'Dark Triad' of traits would suggest to me that this post is not genuinely here to elicit the kind of response that you would care to do anything about anyway.

Prior to this latest post of yours, when you did something new, or changes were made with the forum, you never made announcements to give anyone any kind of heads-up. You just went ahead and did them. What's changed between then and now? If you really wanted to take down this forum, it is my opinion that you would have done so without any notice. That, and given your 'tantrum of an over-tired child'-esque language above has me thinking you just wanted to shake the earth beneath the (very tiring) squabblers on the forum. A bit of a scare tactic. Not that I can entirely blame you. Still, another method might be a little more fair to those of us who don't partake in the squabbling.

If I'm wrong, then I'll be the first to apologize.

I saw exactly the same as a couple of the other posters saw in your comments, and well, it really stinks that you'd look down your nose at the hundreds of people on this forum over the years that partly helped you into the role of the person you are today, complete with the public notoriety and changes in lifestyle you now have. You could not have done it without this forum. Though I know it can be easy to feel that the lines of betrayal are muddy sometimes...betrayal none-the-less, is a bitter pill no matter which side you're on...and it sucks that the years long and amazing amount of work and dedicated contributers here on this OWS forum would be sullied by this kind of abrupt shutdown for reasons unrelated to activism, revolution, and the 99%. Perhaps you should not want to go down in history this way?

What is the point of shutting it down when you're openly admitting that OWS is not to your thinking anyway? It's not like you're shutting something down that's near and dear to your heart to protect it from infiltration or damage. You've said yourself that you don't care about this place. Why don't you just hand it over to the people who still care about it?

Edit: If you shut the forum down, that's it. End of story. It closes all possibility. Even though your heart isn't in it any more, if you hand it over to people who still believe in it, at least there's 'a chance' it'll become what you once had hopes of it becoming.

Give Peace a Chance with Lyrics - John Lennon ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhyiqGIJQus

.

All that being said, jart...if the forum goes down...then it will be a sad day indeed.

This forum is a living document. Humanity deserves to have access to it, to contribute and to learn from other contributors as we move forward and evolve through the ages. At the moment, this forum is stagnant. That happens with forums when they don't evolve and move along with what is needed by the people. The parlaying and sharing of information has been and always will be important, but the natural human instinct and desire to evolve wants/needs the next step to happen or else they feel like they're going around in circles.

A Business Proposal

I'd like to present a collaboration with you about the forum becoming a proper world-wide business. That's right, I said it...a business. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a business when it's done in such a way that it is fair and benefits everyone in it, and the world it affects. So, it would need to be a proper co-operative. But, that's just one part of it. There are many ways that the co-operative can provide jobs that generate 'responsible money' for OWS, and a good income for anyone who wants to be a part of it. Going globally, there'd be massive amounts of jobs for everyone and anyone who wanted them.

This was discussed here before and I sent you a PM with a link to the enthusiastic discussion that had some of the business ideas. Here is that information again in the links below. There was another thread at the same time as well with some ideas but I can't see it just now. I'll continue to look for it and edit it in here.

I would love to see a continuation of this discussion of working with you on a plan that includes other businesses and generating good incomes for many, many people in the business model of a people's co-operative. This forum cannot take the stagnation any more. We need to start forming a direction, or suffer the consequences that are now loomingly obvious. The creative juices are flowing. There are so many productive directions that this business can go in...and it can be done in such a way that you would benefit greatly without doing any of the work yourself, seeing as you openly admit that you're not wanting to be involved any more.

You did your thing. You have been part of a group that has awokened the masses, and eventually Occupy and other altruistic groups will change the World.

Thank You for seeing what so many of us couldn't see.

Everyday this movement is getting stronger,. The lexicon in the debates has changed dramatically, since Occupy was born

And positive changes are beginning to occur. And that will continue with or without this forum. The question is; What will be your legacy?

Forums are tough, especially politically themed ones. Occupy was tough, but a hell of an experience.

If it's gonna go, Ive never really been one to hide, so anyone interested in keeping up can him me up here:

Jeremy Griffin occupytheparadigm@gmail.com

Moderating a forum is a job I certainly wouldnt wish on anyone, its a near impossible nightmare. At least with facebook you have a much more public persona, forums are just breeding grounds for trolls, very tough indeed.

Personally, I would look for someone else to manage it for a while, who knows what they can do with it. With the name, there is a ton of possibilities for good brainstorming, event planning and input, etc., but someone would have to put in the time to develop that.

I don;t have the time to do anything like that, but I'm sure a few tweets would get you more responses than you knew what to do with, local ones so you can meet up with em first.

I do get a kick outta the "you people" comment lol. I can only imagine how insane we all look to someone who is just looking in from the outside. Shit gets personal with politics and man, can we all have at it haha. In that regard, its pretty close to ows, a band of lunatics all arguing all the time lol.

Whatever you do, thanks for making it and seeing it through to completion at least. Its more than most activists are willing to follow through with, and its hard to find activists who want to do the backend grunt work action instead of perpetually planning.

I'll still never know how that foursome of Democrat supporters were able to run roughshod over the entire place for so long, but in the end, its oh well.

Peace everyone.

Wow.Jart,I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for being admin here and I don't mind saying that the Forum has been of great benefit to me personally. What further benefits have come out of it would rather difficult to quantify, but certainly the work you have done has been a good thing. The above post is absolutely NOT worthy of the sophisticated, educated capable person you are known to be.I CANNOT BELIEVE you called the users here "You People." This site is being deluged by a few folks who are out to make this a a Democratic Party campaign site. I don't think that was ever the intent of the Occupy movement. ... which will go on in whatever form irregardless of what happens here.

Jart, Justine Tunney, you are a fraud. A total sell-out and a liar. You took steps in the election year of 2014 to transform this site into a forum intended BY YOU to discourage more liberal voters thereby giving your sell-out ideology, conservatives, and your corporate juggernaut wealth concentrating employer an edge. You've been all over this site posting under multiple IDs. Several of which were created in 2014 for that very purpose.

Cancel my account and have the last word here. But I swear to you right now.

I will be ripping on you in a very special way all over the web for years to come.

Now go concentrate some more wealth you sell-out pig.

Here is another thought. Shutdown the forum and just place legitimate issue NEWS onto the site - no opinion pieces - no need for comments - no access for the trolls to try to smear the articles - just access to education for any who look in.

I won't argue with you about your choice to shutdown the forum - it "IS" your site after all.

If you do not have the time to run it and have lost heart in running it - and have no one you can trust to help you run it or take over running it. Then I think you are wise to just shut it down so that it is no longer a place for trolls to abuse.

Occupy has woken many and from this site's 1st days has inspired many to be active in many diverse ways.

This site may close - BUT - the spirit of Occupy will live on in the works that others will continue to forward.

Thanks for hanging in for so long a time - sorry you have lost heart in "your" fight. Take care. Heal-up. You are young. And there are always good fights to be fought - if you should ever be inspired to do so again.

Can't say I like to see the forum go - But - if you don't have the time to run it - nor the want - to run it - then it's best you shut it down - rather than let these disinformation trolls have the run of the place.

[-] 1 points by johannus (386) from Newburgh, NY 9 years ago

I agree...sort of. If you are going to, "let these [neocon] disinformation trolls [who push for the same old crap] have the run of the place," it's probably best that you shut the forum down.

Thanks, I have learned a lot here, not just about our struggle, but about people too.

[-] 1 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

Oh that's just priceless coming from you. After all, you're just giddy with a particular line of crap. You've been posting it every single day for months on end. Even going so far as to mark it up using multiple IDs.

[-] 1 points by johannus (386) from Newburgh, NY 9 years ago

Unlike the many good people in Occupy, and in kindred groups working hard to bring about systemic change, you and DKAtoday are hacks, and dishonest people trying to advance the duopoly.

[-] 1 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

No, we just refuse to fall for your outrageous CRAP that you can change a damn thing by opting out or refusing to vote for a candidate with a cance in hell to win any seat in Congress or the Presidency. We refuse to let you posers skate by without explaining what you hope to accomplish by letting conservatives increase their majority in Congress.

I've challenged you posers several times now to name ANY candidate with a chance in hell of winning in 2016 worth voting for.

No shit both major parties are corrupt. That was old news 10 years ago. Still, by suggesting that we vote for neither regardless of the circumstances or respective degrees of corruption and by suggesting it here where site visitors tend to have more liberal views, you give conservatives an edge.

That was the idea. After all, you chose the mid-term election year of 2014 to show up here and repeat that 'duopoly' crap every single day leading up to the election and damn near every day since while disregarding the significant differences between the two major parties.

Will you suggest a fiscally liberal third party or independent candidate worth voting for with a chance in hell of defeating a Democrat or Republican?

No?

That's what I thought.

You're a conservative posing as a disgruntled liberal.

[-] 1 points by johannus (386) from Newburgh, NY 9 years ago

"No shit both major parties are corrupt." You're admission was very good SMC. You are coming along nicely, but you missed the part about the "oligarchs" in the duopoly colluding with each other. This renders anyone voting for someone in the duopoly basically 'silly'.. And the hacks who try to convince people to vote for a duopo-list have insdious reason$. Do you have any ulterior motives? I suspect that you do.

Let me know when all this sinks in, OK?

[-] 0 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

I was admitting that both major parties were horribly corrupt long before this site was founded. I was also explaining the intoxicating influence responsible for it.

The complexity of the web, density of the smoke and number of mirrors combined do not change the fact that Republicans have always done more to screw ordinary (decent) people than Democrats. I acknowledge this in spite of the fact that I agree more with Republicans on abortion, the mandates of the ACA and voter registration.

I take nothing you state at face value.

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

You always hated this site and those who came here to do on-line activism. So - Goatin - you must be very happy to see that jart has announced that she is closing the site. When that happens - will you and your GOP stinkle buddies be breathing a sigh of relief? Or will you just go looking for another GOP job?

Here ya go disinformation freak - one more time.

Who denies health care coverage to the people of their states.

Who has been trying to block (unsuccessfully) the ACA from the time it was 1st brought up and has been trying to get it repealed ever since it got passed?

Who is trying to end the USPS?

Who voted 100% for the keystone pipeline approval?

Who is trying to privatize to wall street Social Security?

Who wants to give more tax breaks to the wealthy?

Who stands in the way of equal pay for women?

Who invited nutters yahoo to speak to both houses of congress?

Who is standing in the way of a minimum wage increase?

Who is doing their best to end the EPA?

You obviously have not been reading the comments I have made today. Don't feel bad though. I rarely read comments from a duopoly propagate-er ...either.

[-] -3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I rarely read comments..................

Liar - you are obsessed - I doubt you could overcome your compulsion to read every comment that goes against your program of disinformation - NO - you have to read it all - so that you can make some sort of BS comment to it.

You and your stinkle team buddies are the only ones I know of around here who are trying to create a false duopoly. And that is exactly why you will not - can not - back up the promotion of your fantasy with facts - real evidence.

So

Again

Here is your chance to stop dodging the issues and actually speak to them with evidence:

Who denies health care coverage to the people of their states.

Who has been trying to block (unsuccessfully) the ACA from the time it was 1st brought up and has been trying to get it repealed ever since it got passed?

Who is trying to end the USPS?

Who voted 100% for the keystone pipeline approval?

Who is trying to privatize to wall street Social Security?

Who wants to give more tax breaks to the wealthy?

Who stands in the way of equal pay for women?

Who invited nutters yahoo to speak to both houses of congress?

It would be more factual to state that you want the duopoly to continue - and you promote it's health by campaigning for everyone to opt out and just let it continue on.

But . . . . wait a mo . . . . the duopoly is a fiction of yours.

Where as I would love to see the total destruction of the totally 1% owned repubs - YOU would love to see them take over every seat in government.

You tip your hand every time you deride the evil dems and remain very silent about the totally owned repubs.

[-] 1 points by johannus (386) from Newburgh, NY 9 years ago

The phrase, "opt out" implies that we don't live in a duopoly. You really don't think we have a functioning government that cares about its people....as priority #1, do you, ol' man? Have you left town in the last couple of years, or is the Coon Rapids News (circ, 87) an MSM paper too?! Either would explain your naivety..

Dammit DK.... I do like you ... but why ???

why do you keep cluttering up the forum... with the same stuff you know you are going to get challenged on ?

please ... please ... listen for a minute....

please ... please ... understand ...

when someone attacks a GROUP AS A WHOLE ....

whether it be ... the GOP... the DEMS... the GREENS ... the BLACKS ... the WHITES ...

it doesn't matter .... because from ... then on you have alienated a WHOLE GROUP of people ....

and they will never HEAR or LISTEN to another word you say ...

why not be more concise ... ? ... ie...

LIST the people that ... " Who is trying to end the USPS " .... and ALL of them ...

( NOT JUST THE 100% of one group ) ... ALL of them ....

THEN ... people will LISTEN !! ...

and THAT is the ONLY reason you are getting ARGUMENT here ....

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Obviously you missed the posting of the keystone approval voting record.

It made no difference that it backed up what I have been saying.

The disinformationists won't even speak to that voting record nor will they look at others - as it is not in their interest - there is nothing there for them to exploit.

[-] 2 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 9 years ago

No ... I didn't miss it .... but then you got challenged by someone else generalizing ... and you went right back to generalizing in return ... .. it's never-ending ... need to focus on specifics and stay on specifics to accomplish anything ...

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

OK - stay on the specifics of truth. Lets accomplish an acceptance of reality. Lets not be general about evils in government - lets be specific. The keystone voting record "is" about as specific as one can get.

[-] 1 points by johannus (386) from Newburgh, NY 9 years ago

[-] -2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Show me voting records that back up your claim. You have a short list to look at provided by me:

Come on - surly there is evidence of the duopoly that you can show in this WHOLE list.

But I expect that you will only go back to your game of dodging and throwing crap - instead.
