Brilliant. It's a movement. And the people in lower Manhattan are the vanguard, the tip of the iceberg. Support is growing, and although we may not be legion now, we soon will be...
The unites states falls this year. This year in 2012, the washington monument will fall down, the politicians will be revealed to all as clowns, the armies in 175 countries will have to drop their weapons and get jobs, and the stock market's stolen wealth will be distributed back to all citizens.
The only problem with non-violent culture is that it gets enslaved by the violent culture. We are not refusing to carry racist ID papers. We are trying to get our money back from the violent culture and we trying to stop the violent culture from continuing massive global destruction. We can not non-violently force them to share, nor can we non-violently force them to stop polluting or shut down the nuke factories. We will have to get a little rough or we will continue to be enslaved.
India has a huge rich/poor gap and the country overall can be considered somewhere between laughable and pathetic. They need to rebel almost as bad as here. You best bet is to remind me of Venezuela, where they had no violence whatsoever in their recent independence, HOWEVER, they did threaten violence. Our system can be beaten without violence, but if violence is not at least threatened, the gorillas with the money will never understand you, much less be affected by you. The protest as it is now, is simply considered a small nuisance to be dealt with and laughed at by the 1%. They will pick us all off one by one and push us through their system if we do not organize properly.
I agree it is okay to be a pacifist and anti war, But those people end up dead or in concentration camps and ruled by the conquerors. I am a conservative and agree with the protests concerning the bail out of banks by my tax dollars that I work very hard for, but disagree with what you are proposing by using force. You will lose. Why? 'cause we conservatives have all the money, weapons, and means to use them and will not hesitate to protect what we have worked for all of our lives. That is why a revolution of your type will fail. We 53% that do pay the taxes will defend out private property even if it means using deadly force.
Stay peaceful and see if your numbers grow and vote if you think your life sucks. That is the only way you and your ilk will change anything in this country.
Can you count, sucker? Wall Street will fall. IF you can count. Thousands of cops and national guard. MILLIONS of homeless american victims. How much ammo do you have?
We can and will shut down wall street by force eventually. Every day there are more american victims being tossed into the street. Not all of us are willing to lay down with an illegible cardboard sign and beg the criminals to please stop. It's only a matter of time before YOU join us. Some of us came home from Afghanistan to find our homes foreclosed. Some of us are willing to use physically disabling force against those who would use deadly force to steal from hard working poor people. The so called "conservatives" who conserve nothing but greed will fall. Why? Because you will run out of ammo. We worked hard and fought and died for this country. Now that we have nothing left to lose, we want our money back By Any Means Necessary. This means if I have to break the legs of every idiot cop in the country to shut down the stock exchange, I will. If I have to die to shut down the stock exchange, I will.
Shutting down the stock exchange would remove all foreign investments from America and we would lose billions if not trillions of dollars and most of our jobs. Unemployment would be something like 85%. We need to kick out our politicians, change policy and run wall-street down slowly.
Shutting down the stock market would give us something to bargain with. The jobs you refer to are not worth keeping. We are perfectly capable of fixing our own economies locally once the burden of taxes and regulations are gone. Every family is capable of building wealth without these sort of corporate jobs and worthless jobs from foreign investors. Real work done on your own property building wealth for your family with no shadow of government looming and waiting to take everything you have worked for.
Local regulation voted on by local residents. Your registration is your address. Everyone votes on everything they want to and you can change your vote at any time. Nothing that violates the bill of rights may be voted on.
Military requires no funding at all. People are going to buy weapons on their own. I would seriously love to see someone try to invade any rural town in PA. Some of us already have everything from the movie Predator. There is no possibility of america being invaded successfully. We do not need a federally funded global military invading 175 countries costing $100,000,000,000 per year. For that money, we could buy everyone's home an arsenal of heat seeking RPG to defend against hostile air vehicles, and a roof mounted machine gun. Try invading a suburb of houses lined with those. That is an extreme picture, but any way you look at it, people will volunteer to defend against attack, we do not need a standing military. Especially if we simply eliminate taxes so people can afford to live. Only the super wealthy/successful should pay ANY taxes at all, and those taxes should be saved up for social security and disaster relief. All of which can be voted on locally to determine how much is needed from who and all the other details.
Even with all that the military is still important for three reasons. There are people I would not trust with RPGs. Mass organization is required for massive countries. Nukes.
Wrong. No country needs a military. You are brainwashed and enslaved. Free yourself. Nukes do not exist in the future. There are no nuke plants, therefore no nukes. If we plan to survive on this planet, then nuclear tech is out of the question.
you know what you all want...but how are you going to achieve it.? – "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable." - John F. Kennedy ... if you want the 1 % out of goverment. then propose an admendment to do away with lobbist, and how about only allowing senators to serve 2 terms and congressmen the same. like the president. to keep power in check..i mean really..do you think the president has any power at all, maybe little..but senators and congress can stay in office as long as the electronic votes go in their favor..lmfao..!..hello...see the big picture..? who needs to be president when you can serve a life term as a senator who decides...rule behind the curtain..seriously know the facts about goverment..and make a change..but you are going to have to do it the right way or the fight way...success is make a plan and follow it through ..just like our forefathers did..just my opinion..
That quote is from Martin Luther King Jr. not Kennedy and it is bullshit. Non-violence is the rule until there is no other option but to fight back like right now after the stock market has enslaved 99% of the population or like in the early 60's when black people fought violently back against the national guard in Alabama. The violent rebellion is what caused the 1% to grant the civil rights bill. Not Kennedy, not Martin Luther Burger King Whopper Jr... Malcolm X and the people willing to fight back By Any Means Necessary achieved civil rights, and that is how we will achieve civil bank accounts.
i agree that sometimes it comes to that,,,,and you are right actions always speek louder than words...lets hope it doesn't come to violence...before a resoultion between the two sides can be reached..for war by any means civil or other, and in support of any cause is bloody, and effects so many lives for generations. lets hope they can hear us. or as you and history states....they will eventually understand...
It has already come to violence. Handing our tax money over to the military is violence. Handing the rest over to banks who toss citizens on the street to die is violence. If america were not denying hard working disabled people their social security, we would not have to rebel. I consider it attempted murder by the government on my life after paying all those taxes for the 15 years I was working. I never could afford those taxes, and now that I am disabled they refuse to pay me back. I have no choice to revolt. The problem is that I am not physically capable of doing anything now. I can only sit here on the internet and try to open the eyes of others, and try to warn you all how close you all are to being in my boat. You are all one small tragedy away from homeless, no matter how well you are doing. A serious illness or injury will deplete your bank account eventually. The only reason I still breathe, is I have a family who cares about me. It is my duty to see america fall By Any Means Necessary.
We should occupy the white house, not just wall street. The U.S. Government allows this corruption to take place. In fact Obama elected people from wall street to be his advisers. The U.S. Government spent 1.1 BILLION on the Gadhafi debacle, but wont spend a penny on improving our schools or a penny for small businesses to get off the ground. Think about how cozy the Bush admin was with Wall Street, we must go directly to the parent, not just to the child that misbehaves.
I love OWS and what it stands for but this song is just cheesy as hell. It's also pretty badly written. I love Reverend Billy though so I'll let it slide. =P

Occupy Wall Street For A Long Time Until There is Social, Economic, And Political Change.
Three Things Come into Mind:
One is Wall Street and Government Should be Separate. Two is Tax The 1 Percent Rich for Fairness and More Government Revenue. Three is Sales Tax Should Be Distributed To Social, Constructive, and Economic Programs.
I've watched it over and over... it moves me every time. The truth is simply the truth... and it is beautiful. Humankind is beautiful and worthy of respect.
they have ripped us off and we want our money back. we are demanding our money back right here right now. give us our piece of the pie it's not all yours! you have been destroying our lives and our only planet and we are here to stop your filthy game, get your uniformed thugs off our backs and give us back our country and our planet. we will not stop marching and drumming and chanting and exposing your joke "community police" but real police brutality against our peaceful protest which is waking up the country and the world to your evil fascist tyranny. watch us drive them into a psychopathic breakdown as the 99% reclaim our just democratic rights over our country's treatment of its own citizens and its actions in the world.
Corporations (CEO's) are out of touch with their employees. In fact, they are so jaded they don't know how to interview or hire adept employees. I realize not every applicant can be hired, but most large corporations do not have movement within their companies for the majority of their employees or for applicants. The greed continues and the flux stagnates (no movement within for improvement except for the CEO's and top cats) Then there is nepotism and jobs are created. Voila the inncer sometimes vicious cycle continues Solution: Awareness of your company's policies, goals and mindset/what is best for you, ROWE workplaces and Job Support Groups across the nation to bond vs unconscionable companies. Also, accountability for employees and employers. It is time to take a stand vs greed, but destruction is not the answer. If you have a wheel, you do not keep reinventing it (you improve or continue with your invention). Are we beyond repair or improvement that we must destroy all in the path? I am in favor of taking a atand with calmness, specific goals and solutions to the current problems in our workplaces.

$250,000 in every persons bank account by Christmas or ELSE!!!!! Every citizen. Once we have that, we start adding to the Bill Of Rights. Someone has to take responsibility for this mess. It's up to the people who care enough. Let's take this country. We can do it.

Don't know what to DO or Wear on Halloween?
in the spirit of October 3rd when the Zombies Occupied Wall Street, how about dressing up as a Capitalist Vampire for Halloween?
and if we haven't already moved our money from the top 4 big Wall Street banks (i.e. Bank of America, JP. Morgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo), then Move Your Money to a local bank or credit union on Halloween dressed up as a Capitalist Vampire.
It would be cool if this went viral and found out this was a symbolic movement on Halloween.
These idealistic kiddies are not ratbags or corporate thieves. The do NOT own the mainstream newspapers or TV monopolies which only shake the slimy hand that feeds them. Bashing some sense into them by the hired bouncers smacks (sorry) of dictatorship and subjucation which is abhorred in countries that dont buy our goods, but it is fine if it is done by the rich's police. They might get beaten unconcious but the beating is unconciable. They are young ... they will heal ... and they won't forget , like they don't forget in Libya or all the other regimes that take the money and run. There is a very fine line between bashing the population and shooting them. If the peaceniks become more militant ( or defensive ) the police will be ordered to shoot. Pity the copper whose daughter( or son ) shows up in a protest cos she wants a better future for her kiddies? Wake up and smell the roses - not the air-freshener full of toxic yet profitable chemicals.

With all the talk about Wall Street, I've yet to see a single person commit to selling all financial holdings -- and there are many protesting who do have investments.
This is the only way to REALLY impact Wall Street machinations -- and, also, Bank Transfer Day on November 5 -- close bank accounts and deposit funds in a credit union near you.
Let me be the first !

When the civil rights movement wanted change, they went after the pocketbooks of those in power. They started with the boycott of buses. If we want change, take your money out of the big banks do a run on the banks pick a date and have thousands withdraw their money. Stop shopping at places like walmart that now are cutting off health insurance for their workers, students should go on "strike" against colleges and their insane cost, buy American, don't use credit cards...pick a few ways to hit them financially and put it into action for a month or two..bring them to their knees in the only way we can. Violence is not the answer, boycotts worked before and they can again. just a thought...
THE TEN DEMANDS 1: toilets 2: warm showers 3: fires (braziers and wood fuel 4: the end of cannabis prohibition.5: increased benefits for the unemployed 6: more social housing 7: free education 8: free healthcare 9: free fresh vegetables 10: A DEMOCRATIC AGENDA
FREEE FREEE FREEE someone has to pay for it. Make everyhting in the world free and no one will have to work. Why have doctors when healthcare can be free. Why have farmers when food should be free.
Try another country where no one forces you to pay taxes, where they don't have cars or roads, or any business? I can't think of one but good luck and good riddance.
I’m very concerned about the way economic issues have become the all-consuming focus of our political discourse in this country. I don’t think corporate influence or the distribution of wealth are the issues to which my generation ought to devote its immense passion and talent. These things are temporal and fleeting. We will not leave our mark on this world by increasing the median household income or thinning the ranks of lobbyists. Instead, let’s focus on issues that define our spirit: tolerance and individual choice. When our government and our society embrace pluralism and personal freedom, I’m proud to be an American, and when we reject these things, I’m ashamed.
Have we come so far in accepting people who live differently from the mainstream that we can move on to the dismal science as our main pursuit? Look at the current state of immigration policy, gay rights or drug policy, and you will see we have a long way to go. I judge whether this country is headed in the right direction on those issues, not last month’s unemployment rate. If this movement turns the focus of our national conversation away from issues of personal choice in favor of the question of who is responsible for our slow economic growth, we will lose sight of who we are: the most tolerant and free society in world history.

Troops coming home. Wonderful! Very smart tactic to put people at ease. What will happen if Occupy grows and the police can not handle the crowds. Hmmmmm.........Well now we have 100k troops to keep order.
well, i guess since American's can't afford to buy homes in America, let's give the country away -- and since the dollar is worth less than the euro (and other currencies) the $500,000 min is really about $350,000 to Europeans... then they can rent at high prices and get papers and profit from America
hahaha
so funny - America #1 - God bless America, we're the best
We should apply for a political movement loan and invest in lemonade stands and suits and stuff so we can go door to door selling Avon, jewelry and name brand clothes to Americans.
Buy more stuff and get storage space, help our economy grow..

How is it that we live in a world of 7 billion plus people but have only 1,200 billionaires? There are people who come from towns 3x the population and everyone knows everyone. There are high schools in New York with 4k youngsters hoping to make in the world. What makes the billionaires club any different were they will use eachother to keep their little club exclusive. There is a BIG LIE in our society. Will we find it and stand up against it in time or will we allow the wealthy to cloud us using media they own as an outlet to steer away the attention from them. Dont back down no matter what smoke screen the wealthy put out!

If the occupy movemnet keeps on fighting and growing all over the US and the world it will eventually be capable of doing just about anything, including replacing capitalism incl the stock market with real democracy - democratic worklplaces and communities
All we need as a federal government is the Bill of Rights. Everyone needs to know the bill of rights and it needs to be expanded in accordance with other countries who have advanced further than us socially. Like the right to pure food and water. The right to an honest job at honest pay. The right to clean air. Add stuff.

I'm a big fan of the Bill of Rights, and I support the causes you mention, but they are unrelated. The Bill of Rights is largely about freedom, liberty and limiting the federal government. Pure food and water, and clean air involve federal regulations and enforcement. The right to an honest job and pay is a call for government regulation (minimum wage) and government stimulus (jobs). Writing good (effective) regulation is hard work. We need to come together to make progress on these issues.
We do not need government to do those things. We need responsible citizens who know their rights and respect the rights of others. Any type of regulation can be done locally.

Note: The single parliamentary eballot is the USA Parliament' signature. In case you're wondering why there are 120 items (plus three lines for write-in ideas), seventy items were nominated by USA Parliament elected members and fifty items were copied from the OccupyWallSt.org blog site.
Since only one person has voted thus far, once the second person takes time to mark the eballot with consecutive numbers beginning with the number one, then the two combined eballots' total number of marked tics from both correctly marked eballots will be added together, and any item that received 50% plus one of the tics, will be elected (i.e. two tics, since two people voted...50% of two is one, one plus one is two).
Thank you for your interest and consideration,
Very Truly Yours,
Vote Counting Minister James Ogle [Free Parliamentary]
Well, personally, I am not the Entire 99%, no. lol. But I am 0.0000000001% of a 99% people. Simply because all 99% do not support the movement yet, does not mean that what the 99% stands for is changed. Therefore, a majority of people are a portion of the 99%. Semantics really...
"Therefore, a majority of people are a portion of the 99%." There is no proof to that at all. I'm willing to bet your maybe 5-10% of the 99% 15% pushing it to the max.
Truth is there is 300,000,000 people in america and you have had say 100,000 maximum at your demonstrations. Maths says 99% of 300,000,000 is 297,000,000 and 100,000 people out of 297,000,000 is 0.03367003367003367% That is the most you guys can claim to represent of the 99%. Less than 0.1% that's hardly a majority.
As there is no proof isn't claiming to represent the majority slightly wrong? In fact I do believe it is a lie.

Actually several of the recent polls show that a majority of Americans approve of OWS around 60/30 or 2 to 1. A simple Google search will show that. You can throw all kinds of zeros around, but at the end of the day, the majority of the wealth in this nation (and the world) is sitting in the hands of roughly 0.1% of the population. However, "We are the 99.99%" isn't as pithy.
You may not agree with OWS, but you are the 99% too. It's okay. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they are lying.
Care to link? All the google results show at max 40% unless ofcourse you count the polls done next to OWS.
Saying you ARE the 99% is a lie. Same as if a member of the 1% wrote a letter saying "From the 1%" you wouldn't say ok this letter is what 1 guy from the 1% believes, you would saying this is what the 1% believe. Bending a statistic to imply something that is not a fact to be one may not be lying as such but it is not far from. Politics and Corps do it all the time, and it's just as annoying when they do it.
If you can honestly with all your heart say you can not see the implication and manipulation of the phrase "we are the 99%" then we are completely different wave length. So can you honestly say that? I would be just as annoyed if a pro-capitalism group said "we are the 99%" .
...want more? The only one I found that showed 40% was from the Wall Street Journal.
No, every individual does not speak for all individuals, but we're talking about a growing movement that are democratically generating a consensus. I can see that it could be manipulated, as we saw with the Tea Party. I believe, from being down there and talking to the people involved, this is different.
dailykos is a poll of 100 people are you seriously using that to show anything, 100 people's opinions will vary from room to room?
empire shows no details of how they got these figures so that could be a poll of 4 people from in the protest for all we know.
Time is a good example, quantity size. However it also show's the people people also think everything is affecting America's influence.
slate is the same poll as above, the picture shows 28% agree out of the 80% that's 35% of people. So yes I want more.
I don't care how the people involved are different this time, I care you guys purpose misuse the 99% statistic to try and get a message across. A "growing movement" is still not the whole number and should not claim to be. Unless you really can prove (and I mean really prove with proper polls, seriously 100people polls?) 80% or people agree with you then it's a distinction that should be kept.
The statistic is based on income... The definition comes from the way you use it. Which in this case is to imply that you are the 99%. "We are the 99%" is saying you are something that you are not. It is a lie. A better title would be "We are the 0.1% of the 99%" better that wouldn't have quite the impact would it?

Shutting down the stock exchange would remove all foreign investments from America and we would lose billions if not trillions of dollars and most of our jobs. Unemployment would be something like 85%. We need to kick out our politicians, change policy and run wall-street down slowly.

In a situation were there are no taxes and regulations, it's not OUR government I would be worried about....
Local regulation voted on by local residents. Your registration is your address. Everyone votes on everything they want to and you can change your vote at any time. Nothing that violates the bill of rights may be voted on.
now thats a good idea, a little expensive, and without support for a good military, but with some improvement it might work.
If we plan to survive on this planet, then nuclear tech is out of the question.
love is stronger than violence. violence begets violence.
It was a great artistic video. Great job.
you know what you all want...but how are you going to achieve it.?
Bush recieved way less money from Wall Street than Bush. That is how corrput Obama is.
This is the real deal here: http://www.thrivemovement.com/
This explains the real source of corruption and greed.
why is it that no one ever says Gov't just spends to much. Taxing the rich won't work unless those in power quite spending.
BINGO!! Leftist in this movement avoid this. Giving this government more money to waste is the definition of insanity.
agreed. we should cut the biggest waste of money - military spending.
I spent my whole life trying to expose the truth only to find that no one even cared.
I know the feeling. Just keep fighting, fuck them.
YES!
I love OWS and what it stands for but this song is just cheesy as hell. It's also pretty badly written. I love Reverend Billy though so I'll let it slide. =P

pay too much for your house too bad, housing is way over priced. what expect to keep making money on you house... funny. so just go find a jod... thats right there are 4 million jobs in the available in the US but your just not smart enough... or if the goverment is paying to sit on your ass, just watch tv.

they have ripped us off and we want our money back. we are demanding our money back right here right now. give us our piece of the pie it's not all yours! you have been destroying our lives and our only planet and we are here to stop your filthy game, get your uniformed thugs off our backs and give us back our country and our planet. we will not stop marching and drumming and chanting and exposing your joke "community police" but real police brutality against our peaceful protest which is waking up the country and the world to your evil fascist tyranny. watch us drive them into a psychopathic breakdown as the 99% reclaim our just democratic rights over our country's treatment of its own citizens and its actions in the world.

Why have farmers when food should be free.
automation has taken our jobs and set us free from slavery now we want our piece of the pie.
I don't use roads, but I forced to pay for it. I am anti-war, but am forced to pay for bombs that blow up little kids.
Try another country where no one forces you to pay taxes, where they don't have cars or roads, or any business? I can't think of one but good luck and good riddance.
You're the one who acts like nobody else pays taxes.
Thanks for letting me say my piece here.

Did ya'll read this story on BBC ? -- US economy: Foreign home-buyers sought - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15406776
well, i guess since American's can't afford to buy homes in America, let's give the country away -- and since the dollar is worth less than the euro (and other currencies) the $500,000 min is really about $350,000 to Europeans... then they can rent at high prices and get papers and profit from America

Corporations (CEO's) are out of touch with their employees. In fact, they are so jaded they don't know how to interview or hire adept employees. http://www.usparliament.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=489&sid=7a95d62e7e78591dfb0df713c813a5ee

I don't like the song.
You are not the 99%. Stop lying
I would be just as annoyed if a pro-capitalism group said "we are the 99%" .
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/10/19/1028025/-New-poll-shows-large-majority-agree-with-Occupy-Wall-Street http://empire.wnyc.org/2011/10/occupy-wall-street-killing-it-in-the-polls/ http://swampland.time.com/full-results-of-oct-9-10-2011-time-poll/ http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2011/10/13/poll_occupy_wall_street_is_twice_as_popular_as_the_tea_party.html
...want more?
The definition is based on income...
The statistic is based on income... The definition comes from the way you use it. Which in this case is to imply that you are the 99%. "We are the 99%" is saying you are something that you are not. It is a lie. A better title would be "We are the 0.1% of the 99%" better that wouldn't have quite the impact would it?
