Solidarity with Oakland | Exposing Police Lies

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 26, 2011, 3:14 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

Yesterday evening, and throughout the night, the city of Oakland and its police department continued their crusade against free assembly. Protesters who went to reoccupy the space at the Oakland Library were met with heavily armed riot police, with tear gas, with rubber bullets and with flashbang grenades.

The Oakland Police Department treated attempts by the occupation medics as an excuse to throw more firepower, shooting a flashbang at a group of people trying to evacuate a protester who had been knocked out in the fighting.

This is what the Oakland PD stated after the action

Q. Did the Police deploy rubber bullets, flash-bag grenades?
A. No, the loud noises that were heard originated from M-80 explosives thrown at Police by protesters. In addition, Police fired approximately four bean bag rounds at protesters to stop them from throwing dangerous objects at the officers.

The Oakland police department fired shotgun bean bags and rubber coated bullets at the crowd, leading to at least one person being hospitalized in a critical condition and someone with a serious head fracture.

a protester with two bleeding wounds from police fire

The wounds these bullets can cause are far more serious than their non-lethal designation implies, and they can, in fact, be lethal; rubber bullets, especially, are merely regular bullets coated with rubber.

The Oakland city hall claims that this is a "peaceful dispersion". To the mayor we respond that this is an unqualified lie. In solidarity with the protestors of Occupy Oakland, for further information we recommend their website [www.occupyoakland.org](http://www.occupyoakland.org).

Google has received numerous requests from U.S. law enforcement agencies to remove videos of police brutality, Google has apparently refused.

Fuck law enforcement. They ARE NOT law enforcement. Rather, they are THUG enforcement for what they're doing.

I'm absolutely disgusted in what I saw in the video! But I respectfully suggest more peaceful language is more effective. I agree with your sentiment but please dont give the opposition any "ammunition". Peace! :)

I hope they wear hazmat suits if they have to deal with those Occu-Thugs, then. Wouldn't want them infested with lice and who knows what other diseases you freaks are carrying.

The thing you have to remember is that the officers participating in these evictions are not your regular beat cops. These are volunteers who know exactly what they'll be doing. They are the worst of the worst. Some just do it for the money, others do it because they are sadists and enjoy it. Not all cops are like this though, so don't put them all in the same category as the thugs we see in riot gear. Google "Oath Keepers", that should explain it a bit better.

speaking of liberals we have had enough of them

[-] 1 points by MakeThisWork (33) from New York, NY 12 years ago

Yeah, those liberals. Made us have weekends, a 40-hour work-week, a retirement age, passed legislation to clean our air and water, kept our children from working in factories... Enough of that shit. Glad we're tearing down everything they ever did!

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

That wasn't a "liberal." Liberals hadn't even been born yet.

[-] 1 points by demonspawn79 (186) 12 years ago

Liberalism as an ideology has been around for the better part of four centuries.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

The human mind's been around a while, I agree... but the American Liberal is a recent creation.

[-] 1 points by demonspawn79 (186) 12 years ago

About as recent as the American Revolution, yes. There are many forms of liberalism, but people like you just lump everyone into the same category. I consider myself liberal on some issues such as personal freedoms, but very conservative on others such as criminal justice. The world is not black and white.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

The Liberal party and label is a relatively recent creation. And it was an utter failure in NY, the land of the so-called "liberal-minded," because it was not an accurate representation of the concerned populace. But yea, I hear ya...

[-] 2 points by ssassy (83) 12 years ago

[-] 0 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 12 years ago

A lot of the money for these cool repressive toys the riot cops use comes from the federal Dept of Homeland Security, which should be disbanded.

that funny im concerned that there not reporting the facts about how the protestors were acting more like a mob then protestors, so more people wont make the same dumb mistake and get hurt and you just want to promote that it was unprovoked which is not entirely true, boith side made major mistakes in judgment. The more people realize this the better chance it can be avoided next time,. But your approach will only bring more anger and violence. shame on you.

I know you will just dismiss this cause your just so 100% right why would you even question yourself for one millasec

but as we've been saying all along stuff was thrown at cops which probably started this, not the people standing up for their rights. But because they decided to practice their rights with rocks which changes the definition from peaceful protesting to NOT peaceful protesting. So there you have it you guys f'd up. Im sorry but we are not having it that bad where we can justify throwing rocks at cops. Im sorry so beacue they wear armour you get to act like cavemen without any repercussions. You know I know things are wrong in this country, but I have a hard time getting behind a bunch of kids that want to throw rocks at cops cause things are a little rough right now, and then when the cops react like they would in almost any situation you cry war.I'm sorry but the more and more you people are wanting this to be something it's not just shows that maybe your a little over your head.

Google had no choice, they have to disclose this kind of stuff. They certainly didn't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Can you imagine the fallout if they said nothing? Google shares would plummet with the inevitable allegations of corruption and collusion.

Naive, inexperienced bastards ! Loud claims that You'll make worldwide revolution, and now it turns out that You don't have even a cheap $20 gas mask which is a must-have personal protection for street protesters. Did You understand that the true revolution is not for You ? The government (the "1%" as You call them) is not going to give up to your slogans, You do not have resources for real fight, so YOU have to surrender ?

[-] 1 points by ssassy (83) 12 years ago

We'll come up with resources. And no, gas masks are not common for AMERICAN protests. I guess that has changed, thanks to Oakland!

Furthermore, thank you Oakland PD! You continue to build support for OWS!

It's amazing the ability of cowards to mobilize those that didn't realize they have strength...

Dear Occupiers of Oakland, Wall Street and all other Occupied places of the United States. From Australia we watch in horror at the brutality infliced upon peaceful citizens of your country at the hands of the people who are paid to protect you (we have experienced this brutality here too). We stand in solidarity with you and hope and pray that you stay strong, peaceful, resiliant - cool, calm and collected. You see, our Occupy Movements rely on yours. You are changing not only the course of American history but the entire world. We are watching, we are with you. Please stay peaceful! They (the media, the elite, the governments) do not know how to handle you when you are peaceful, so they lie and say you incited the violence. Gandhi himself said "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win". Look at where we are up to and what comes next. They are fighting...next WE WIN!!
Keep filming, keep reporting the truth. It IS being witnessed world wide! We are watching YOU Big Brother. The world has woken up and we will not fall asleep again.

this is what is left of your so called right to free assembly. This is what evil pigs are really all about. This is the truth about evil pigs andwho they really are. This is the truth about "police officers". They are heartless, evil scum sucking thugs, without a conscience, without a moral compass, without an iota of ethics.

This is why we must win. Because our so called rights are just lies and polite fictions.

This is why we must carry on- because we are right, because our enemy is evil, fascist, corrupt, and has no moral authority- at all.

But most importantly, this is why we must organize, because without strong organization, we will lose.

Keep exposing the lies!!! They're trying to scare off support and divide the people because they know the power of our unity... it is immeasurable!

It's very important to address the lies and fear-mongering but we can turn it around on them and use each of these malicious lies to expose the frauds. Show the People who can not be trusted and what they're doing is nothing more than a tactic to divide us, to stop, steer or steal the movement. We can beat the masters-of-manipulation at their own game... just the facts, not to manipulate, but to stop the manipulation. The dirty tricks won't stop unless they become fruitless, so make them useless or go one better, and let it work against them and grow People Power!

The problems with corruption span the globe and the agents-of-corruption go far beyond Wall Street. The problems are vast; wars, pollution, hunger, homelessness and poverty are serious and growing problems because of corruption. The corrupt governments work for the corrupt... not for any People.

Keep up all the great work!
SOLIDARITY is All for One and One for All ~ 100% of the 99% THANK YOU OCCUPY!

All of this proves that our opponents are as clueless as all other enemies of the 99% throughout history. All of the Kings, Emperors, Czars and other self-annointed gods of mankind have been brought low in the past. Our opponents of the present are equally as clueless and will, in their turn, be brought low as well and the 99% will triumph over them. All we need do is pledge our lives, our fortunes (remember that 1$ in ur sugur bowl?), and our sacred honor in the battle for our freedom from tyranny.

"rubber bullets, especially, are merely regular bullets coated with rubber"

You are so dumb you should be ashamed of yourself. Rubber bullets are solid rubber, not rubber coated bullets like you so wrongly said. Those would be lethal.

Also, they aren't 'non-lethal' rounds. No one but people like (IE: people without a clue) would say that. These are less than lethal rounds, and yes even under ideal use they can cause death. But they aren't supposed to tickle you idiot.

If government would only adhere to their sworn oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws we would not be in this horrible mess. But instead they take bribes/ campaign contributions and either give massive bail outs or they violate the Constitution by granting Retro Active Immunity from prosecution. Robert kennedy spoke out against retro active immunity..."QUOTE" (The very idea of "retroactive immunity" ... is so radical, so repugnant to the most basic principles of the "rule of law," that only one prior attempt can be found in recent history (at least from my research): the efforts by some in Congress (in 1965) to enact a law retroactively legalizing the mergers by six large banks which clearly -- as a federal court found -- were illegal under our nation's antitrust laws. The banks knew when they merged that they were almost certainly violating anti-trust laws. But they did it anyway. And when courts began ruling that their behavior was illegal, they ran to Congress to demand that a law be passed granting them amnesty, claiming that the consequences would be ruinous if they were held accountable under the law. ) But the very concept of retroactive amnesty, the idea that corporations could break the law and then have Congress pass a special law legalizing their lawbreaking conduct, was so profoundly offensive to Sen. Robert Kennedy (who had been the Attorney General when the banks broke the law with their mergers), as well as then-Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach, that they engaged in extraordinary efforts to try to put a stop to this Congressional travesty. If Robert Kennedy was able to stop them at that time in our history then we would most certainly not be in this position today. What will happen in the future now that it is legal for judges to take bribes? How could you bring evidence of corruption and violations of the LAW when you have a court that has been granted RETRO ACTIVE IMMUNITY for taking bribes.
The change must start with the courts. Without a fair and unbiased court you can not have JUSTICE, YOU CAN NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OF DUE PROCESS. In the constitution the right to due process is stated over and over again. Our founding fathers knew the dangers when judges could be bought. They knew the dangers when the financial institutions became too big.

SECTION FROM SBX211 This bill would provide that no governmental entity, or officer or employee of a governmental entity, shall incur any liability or be subject to prosecution or disciplinary action because of benefits provided to a judge under the official action of a governmental entity prior to the effective date of this bill on the ground that those benefits were not authorized under law. (NO ONE SHOULD BE ABOVE THE LAW) SBX211 IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

SBX211 is evidence of conspiracy of the California legislative branch of government to cover up the multiple felony's committed by the Judicial branch of government. By an act of Legislation, California's judicial branch has admitted to be corrupt.

HISTORY OF RETRO ACTIVE IMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES

  1. given for illegsl use of torture
  2. given for illegal merger of banks ( we can see the effects of that now )
  3. given to telecom company for illegal wire taps. (Fisa bill that led to the patriot act)
  4. given to Judges for taking bribes. (SBX211) SBX211 violate checks and balances between legislative and Judicial powers. Judges do not disclose the county payments at the onset of any trial where the county is either a party to the case or has a financial interest. (Judges violate Judicial codes of ethics) Judges refuse to recuse themselves when requested under CCP170 Judges find themselves unbiased and then file an order striking statement. SBX211 Retro Active Immunity given to California judges for openly taking bribes. Judges are employees of the State they receive their pay and benefits from the State. The Los Angeles Superior court judges are currently receiving an additional $57.688,00 from the county of Los Angeles. there is no bigger user of the court than L.A. County.(A party to the case and has a financial interest in most cases in the courts) Those payments were found to be unconstitutional / illegal in Sturgeon vs Los angeles County. After that decision the judges paid a lobbyist to pass SBX211 ( RETRO ACTIVE IMMUNITY )

( REPEAL SBX211 ) NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT TO CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES. THEY SHOULD BE HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS OF THE LAW AS THE 99%. GIVE THE COURTS BACK TO PEOPLE AND AND RESTORE DUE PROCESS.

like i said I know they were idiots, but still they fit into the equation, they helped fuel the fire against an already unstable situation. I pretty sure if those bottle and rocks had not been thrown we would not be talking about this today. I sorry the cops were not completely unprovoked, did it give them permission to do what they did no. Have Oakland cops does stupid stuff in the past yes, have Oakland people done stupid stuff in the past once again yes. So my point is something like this could happen an Oakland any time, and oh yea it does. its sad but this means that there is a huge chance this incident really had nothing to do with the movement. Shit like this happens in Oakland already so yea Oakland is a city that has some major issues going on, but that completely unrelated that's Oakland which they been having issues long before the economics went to crap. So yea Oakland has some major issues, that need to be fix i will not argue there. But if you think this is a reflection of how our country is being taken down by police cause people are complaining about money problems. i think purposely trying to make this something its not is actually promoting violence in a very passive aggressive way. And anyone who is fueling this bogus war cry should be ashamed of themselves. There are enough real issues here that you don't have to make this a civil war.

[-] 1 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

The video shows what happened. The police and mayor are reacting in a very predictable way. They're running cover for their actions by saying there will be an investigation. And we all know how those turn out. It's just a clever ploy in diffusing and forgetting. We should NOT let them forget.

We will demand justice, all non-violent movements demand justice in face of the Truth.

[-] 1 points by ungr8ful (70) from Benicia, CA 12 years ago

Man you people need to check your selves your talking about police like there not even people. We are all in this together right, i thought we were all f'd.But here you guys are just like everyone drooling over how you can find more ways to separate and categorize us and separate us when we should be working together Your just as bad as you think everyone else is.

[-] 1 points by ungr8ful (70) from Benicia, CA 12 years ago

Please check your facts, the protesters had stopped communicating with the city weeks ago, technically they were protesting illegally and when ask to be removed. Some of them started throwing bottles and rocks and fireworks at police. I am not saying the deserve what they got, but please don't leave out the part where the protesters where being in my opinion a little stupid throwing rocks and bottles at cops and refusing to leave because you don't have a job. I'm sorry but just cause your protesting does not mean you get to break the law and yes they were protesting illegally. sorry i know every one wants to leave out the facts and make this a simple police state story but its not. if you want to protest protest but you have to follow the rules especially in Oakland. Do you guys have any idea what happens in Oakland when your not around, yea check your facts oaklands not thew place you really want to be doing stupid things. So go back to sleep people this does not mean all our right are begin taken away it just means if your going to protest in Oakland you better mind your p's and q's Oh and if your going to protest make sure you don't have people amongst you that like to throw things at cops. So calm down we don't live in a police state this is a single instance of stupid police reacting to stupid protesters that don't understand the rules and laws of protesting. In fact I think everyone should for their own personal safety check out their local laws and really make sure they understand how things really work instead what your buddy told you who thinks he now them works. You break it you may have to pay the consequences no matter how good your cause is.

It suck what happen but don't forget it could have been avoided if the protesters had not been acting the way they were and I'm sorry if your an adult and you still don't see how this could have been avoid by both sides, that both sides made mistakes then you need to step back and reevaluate what it really is your getting out of all this.

And in my opinion if your trying to leave out key facts like this then it's you who is promoting violence cause people are getting the wrong impression and are getting made about something that they think is a rights act, when really it's just a stupid accident that could have been avoided by both sides 100%

One of the most amusing parts of this "revolution" is that nearly 99% of the so called 99% will eventually grow up, have responsibilities of their own and will aspire to become the 1% they claim to despise. As a citizen of this Country you are owed nothing. If an illegal immigrant, you are owed even less! Get of your asses, off the government / taxpayer tit, and earn your own way as your ancestors did before you. Reality's a bitch but eventually it catches up to everybody.

Lets turn this to our advantage. Given the fact that the government both at the state and federal level is going to allow things like this to continue in order to shut OWS and we all know they are trying to create a riot so that they can spin it to make OWS look bad. The best thing we can do now is to apply pressure to the police, state and federal to prevent incidents like this from happening And since I do love killing two birds with one stone, we can also help convince the people still on the sidelines to get in involved.

How you ask? Simple, start circulating a petition demanding the chief of police in both Oakland and NYC to step down on the grounds of misconduct. We already have enough evidence to support our case. Just present the videos already on the internet and news reports of this incident and the incident at Union Square on September 24, 2011 as evidence. Have every Occupy group do this in person and create a website where people can see the the videos and pictures we have and have a online petition on the same website. Twitter and face book the hell out of the website.

If both the mayor of NY and Oakland try to stop us from doing so, we can also turn right around and petition for there dismissal on the grounds of misconduct.

police brutality radicalises the youth who now know we do not live in a democracy subject to the rule of law. we live under an evil fascist tyranny subject to their uniformed thugs. we know the enemy and we see their nature, their orders in these police actions. our tyrants are worse than syria, saudi arabia and iran!! we the people are AWAKENING. bring it on home to family and friends. they have stolen our futures and sold us into slavery. break the bonds asunder and set the captives free. now we know what the Palestinians have to put up with in Gaza!!

An Iraq War Veteran is currently in critical condition with a fractured skull and brain swelling after being shot in the face with "non-lethal rounds" during the Oakland Police Department's assault on Occupy Oakland yesterday. All because after surviving 2 tours in Iraq, he was engaging in the right to protest here at home.

We need our military HERE at home!!! Protect us from our own government! This is REAL.

You fuckers were infringing on my rights. I was trying to drive to work [I had to close a deal with some fellow's in Hong Kong], but you guys were blocking a public space and preventing me from creating 7,000 U.S. jobs. The police actaully showed considerable constraint. In my day we would just fire grapeshot into the mob until the peons dispersed.

Of course being the genius business man you are, you didn't get your head out of your ass or off you crack berry in time to see what was going on and drive down another road. Damn its bad when those crack berries take over your life. Pity. Well I guess your bonus this year will suck a tad more. So sad, too bad. My heart bleeds for you.... NOT!

[-] 1 points by PatTheHat (3) 12 years ago

Not so fast there skippy, driving is a privilege, not a right, the law dawgs and the DMV (BMV, you know, depending on your zip code) tells us so....gettin' outta bed and on a roll a wee tad bit earlier, that's a right, just like, Life, Liberty, & the Pursuit of Happiness, is...okay, so I cheated, I read it right off our label...oh yeah, and Liberty & Justice For ALL...yeah well, I thought I'd just throw that in for Free. And like wow, you have a car that can drive to Hong Kong? Must be quite expensive, might could explain why you don't have a TV or internet access at your home...you know, to stay informed, know what's going on, not to mention where it's going on, that, and to get your imaginary work done and such. Uh oh, did I just call you a liar?...hmmm, why yes, yes I believe I just did..so sorry, it's just that I'm so suspicious of professional asshats making wild claims to justify their silly, and often violent, notions and thoughts...let that be a lesson to ya home skillet, carry on.

[-] 1 points by lukefromDC (44) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

And when you fired that grapeshot, it didn't always work. If you lost like Marie Antoinette did, we brought out the guillotines and paid you back in kind. Do you really want to go back to those days.

talking about banks, the elite exploiting the 99%, the oppression of the 99%. you insult history by calling the 99% in this country oppressed. let the 20th century be a lesson if you want to define oppression. we all have it very, very good in the grand scheme of things. you insult history, and the many that experienced, and often died, at the hands of truly oppressive governments. get over yourselves. the human microphone symbolizes the mindlessness if this movement- herds of sheep, mindless drones. it's painful, going down in flames.

There are real causes, like the freedom riders back in the 50's- or the resistance in occupied Europe. and there's BS like this- an amorphous, obtuse group of young folks trying to stage a half protest/ half music festival/party in several major cities. you represent a small minority of Americans. the rest of us, we represent ourselves.

you want your voice heard, your grievances known. most folks, including me, respect that. but just because you say you represent the 99% does not mean you represent the 99%. there's calls for revolution, a move to socialism, collectivism under the guise of the oppressed 99%. such a justification became the greatest tragedy of the 20th century. kudos for your intentions, but there's a very famous road paved with good intentions.

i know of people in pretty bad shape right now. in fact, extremely rough shape, being very strapped for money is the far from their biggest worry. they have every right to be cynical, to be angry. and they're not. step back from all this, realize it's not as dire as made out to be.

increasingly, people are getting sick of, what now appears to be, a mindless, misguided mob scene comprised of the self righteous, the self-indulgent, and the ignorant. good luck, though.

oh yeah, getting shot by riot cops happens when they tell you they're gonna shoot if you don't leave. these folks stayed. in many countries, those would be real bullets, and they'd be coming from a gunner sitting on top of a tank. just perspective on the whole oppression thing.

Consumer electronics technology is not that reliable, and you have to have your ducks in a row to deal with it's deficiencies.

Record, record, record. If you see something you cannot record, write it down right away. Then make sure your recordings get out there.

Americans cannot grasp reality that we do live under a police-state. In my state we do have 200 counties and in each county there is one sheriff’s dept., fbi, cia, us marshal, us secret service, batfe, hls. These villains do watch you via satellite, set cameras on street corners to stork money from the population, set road blocks to stork money from the population, set tolls from point a to point b to stork money from the population. They do claim to have the rights to abuse the population. Just think about it, how many jails there are in every county in your state. Guess how many citizens are incarcerated in your state right now? Do you still think that you do live in a democratic state? Think again, this is organizing tyranny.

Oakland Police: Way to show the world that America only cares about democracy when its happening somewhere else.

If a no camping ordianance takes precedence over freedom of speech in your country, and if violating a civic ordinance give government the right to shoot at people and then throw explosives at those trying to help the injured... then your country frankly does not even deserve to be called a democracy, much less the leader of the free world.

I am suggesting, all concerned citizens must express their Solidarity with fellow demonstrators all over the country and abroad. We must let the US Terrorist Congress know about our despise of their desire to destroy working class. Their malignant activities in engineering a new social stratification deserves our strong opposition, confrontation and all forms of protest. Since not all of us can participate in group protest, we should look for an alternative individual and community expressions.-symbols. Here are several suggestion;

  • use your property to display signs of solidarity i.e; occupy your own front yard, use tent and signs.
  • in your home, apartment windows display signs; i.e. 99%, Exploited and Terrorized, Legal slave, CAPITACLISM
  • use your community, neighborhood and development spaces to post signs. Let local police brutalize your lawn. Set the camera to record police and their agents activities and trespassing. By the way, you will also know who in your neighborhood is a snitch and on special payroll.Their front yard will be empty.Popularize all ideas of our war on legal crimes perfected by the Washington DC conservative degenerates.

Why should I be sympathetic to these people? They were told to leave more then once , and told what would happen if they didn't. Cali has a history of riots and flash mob robberies . Why should the police just accept that this was going to be non violent. Just because these and you people say so? lol Not buying into this any more. You people use the police actions as a means to get more people on board for your cause. It's deceitful.

They could have bothered to go down there and see what was actually going on before showing up in their riot gear and shooting at people... they would have found nice peaceful people, direct democracy, and a lot of positive ideas about how to make the world a better place.

No one needs to use police actions to get more people on board, frankly the actions of the police speak for themselves... and more people will get on board as a result of them... because it is blatently obvious that democracy in America is dead.

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

"You people use the police actions as a means to get more people on board for your cause. It's deceitful"

Here's a little fact you may enjoy. MLK Jr. planned the Selma marches in hopes of a violent police reaction, to get media attention for the cause. It worked.

[-] 1 points by Kekeg (4) 12 years ago

I'm not saying they didn't break the law, because they did. But watch the youtube video of the guy above. He's laying on the ground bleeding, some ppl come to help them and they throw a flashbomb right in the middle of the ppl crowed around the helpless guy. The police are suppose to restore peace, not cause harm to barely concious indivuals nor those that help them.

[-] 1 points by angelofmercy (225) 12 years ago

Again they were told to leave. These people might not have been injured if they would have left ,now would they? I am not going to feel sorry for anyone who decides to be stupid , knowing what the consequences are.

[-] 1 points by clancyt (1) from Calgary, AB 12 years ago

sometimes not leaving is the only right thing to do, You can not live your life on what if's the group was peaceful, who's to say they would not remain peaceful. I was told to leave a few times from places, I didn't I new the consequences, I was arrested, i spent the night in jail, but there is justice sometimes, the former billionaire CEO Conrad Black was arrested on multible infractions, was found quilty and is till in jail!!!

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

And MLK Jr. should have given up on marching through Selma? He was told to leave, too.

Your position is idiotic. Peaceful protest is how real change occurs. Wake up.

[-] 1 points by SwissMiss (2435) from Ann Arbor Charter Township, MI 12 years ago

And I guess people think the women who fought for suffrage should've stopped protesting peaceably, even when they were thrown in prison for NO REASON AT ALL and were force-fed through tubes and were brutalized.

[-] 0 points by angelofmercy (225) 12 years ago

lol To say they , or what you are doing is the same as what MLK Jr. was doing is idiotic.

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

Why? MLK Jr. organized a peaceful march, was told by authorities he had no permit, did it anyway, was attacked by police. Did it again. And again. The movement grew and resulted in the Civil Rights act.

Explain how this movement isn't taking the same road?

"Again they were told to leave. These people might not have been injured if they would have left ,now would they? I am not going to feel sorry for anyone who decides to be stupid , knowing what the consequences are."

MLK and his marchers were "told to leave." They would not have been injured if they would have left, too, right? Tell me, did you or do you in retrospect have any "sympathy" for those attacked by police on the Pettis Bridge? After all, they certainly knew what the "consequences" were likely to be.

Why do you think the protests are drawing this type of reaction from authorities? It's because THEY ARE SCARED AND DON'T WANT CHANGE. But we WON'T quit fighting. Your opinion is a moot point.

[-] 3 points by mgiddin1 (1057) from Linthicum, MD 12 years ago

I disagree about the why - they are trying to provoke violence because that's what our brave leaders want. If they provoke violence, then they have the excuse to really bring the hammer down (martial law, full court press police state). Kettling women, attacking disabled people - this is psychological warfare designed to provoke people to rage.

We must resist the urge to strike back with force, and talk to as many police as we can to bring them over to the people's side. They are part of the 99% after all - and they want a future for their kids, too.

Kudos to Ann Arbor - I'm U-M alum from 1996

If they were going to get him medical treatment, they already would have. These yahoo police, who clearly don't have the balls to go to an actual war zone, were having fun playing 'Black Ops" on the Oakland streets.

The best man at my wedding is a cop. Great guy, caught up in a segregated world... trained to support establishment. Not an accident.

[-] 1 points by ssassy (83) 12 years ago

I definitely agree that they are trained, and to a degree indoctrinated, in establishment thought and rhetoric. I've known good cops and bad cops. Sadly, the bad cops tarnish them all. And worse, a lot of good ones protect bad ones.

It is fascinating and concerning to see how militarized our police forces are becoming. Glad to see my tax dollars at work! I didn't realize the police had so many toys!

Here here, Way to put it!

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

MLK Jr. = stupid, apparently

[-] 1 points by Kekeg (4) 12 years ago

Hate to burst your bubble, but the police do not provide medical attention until after theyv e taken you to jail. So I guess that guy should of waited until the riot was over to get some help. That's what your saying right? And you never know what kind of situation you'll be in unless you know the future. I'm quite sure that little 7 yo the police shot dead in her bed wasn't stupid enough to put herself in that situation.

You're not "stupid enough" to march and stand up for your rights, eh? That's very sad.

[-] 1 points by anonnewyorker (4) from Schenectady, NY 12 years ago

the equality can only be achieved thru nonviolence, if u even throw a punch let alone m80s u will never achieve your goal! look at your ancestors in the civil rights movement and the indepence from british movement in india. you must not fight back! you will get people on your side if they see that the police fired rubber bullets and bean bag rounds at people who didnt touch them. you will be successful thru nonviolence trust me but you have to do it right. -anon new yorker

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

M80's? Really? Have you not seen the numerous videos which debunk that crap story?

[-] 1 points by diceytroop (2) 12 years ago

very much agreed, but there were no m80s thrown. look, you can hear the "m-80s" in this video: http://t.co/dvGk1Y6K

more like m-8000s.

[-] 1 points by anonnewyorker (4) from Schenectady, NY 12 years ago

thanks dicey. but it was the prostestors that set off the m80s right? why would they do that they had to of known itd make the other protestors disperse

[-] 1 points by diceytroop (2) 12 years ago

no, no protestors set off m-80s that night. just like no one threw rocks and bottles. OPD on some bulllllllllish.

[-] 1 points by JDub (218) 12 years ago

Way to believe the police's story after the fact of what happened

[-] 1 points by anonnewyorker (4) from Schenectady, NY 12 years ago

Sorry I just read the story on occupywallst.org so I thought it was the protestors side of the story. My bad jdub

[-] 1 points by Bugsieray (5) 12 years ago

Just because you call your movement a "revolution", does not give you the right to disregard the laws of the land! This debauchery is an embarassment.

[-] 1 points by tuneup03 (10) 12 years ago

weak.

[-] 1 points by tommybones (4) 12 years ago

Rosa Parks was breaking the law too. Guess she should have just shuffled to the back of the bus, eh? Like a good citizen?

[-] 1 points by Vooter (441) 12 years ago

Wanna bet?

[-] 1 points by Kekeg (4) 12 years ago

That was sarcasm by the way. Before you disregard a law breaker, please know why their breaking the law.

[-] 1 points by Kekeg (4) 12 years ago

Once upon a time it was the law of the land to own slaves. Once upon a time it was the law of the land to not allow illiterate americans to vote. Guess all those law breakers should of kept their mouths shut huh?

[-] 1 points by SwissMiss (2435) from Ann Arbor Charter Township, MI 12 years ago

Ditto.

[-] 1 points by diceytroop (2) 12 years ago

it's the police who are disregarding the laws of the land. and even if our current police state were grounded in any legitimate law or jurisprudence, we would still reject and oppose it. we stand for democracy and we stand for freedom.

http://www.industrialrubbergoods.com/gifs/rubber-bullets.jpg http://www.ehow.com/info_8246905_advantages-disadvantages-rubber-bullets.html

Oakland is violating training policy.

Lethality

*

Rubber bullets are often used in riot control situations as a non-lethal alternative to traditional ammunition. They were originally used by British police in Northern Ireland in 1970. They were designed to be shot at the ground and hit demonstrators' legs on a bounce. Rubber bullets can cause serious abrasions and broken bones, but rarely kill anyone. Police who use them in riot situations are directed to aim below the waste because rubber bullets can cause serious, even lethal, damage to internal organs and the face.

We must have constitutional courts to deal with this. Oops, we lost those years ago, Well, we need Article 5 of the US constitution as a focus for the movement.

Congress is very afraid of an Article 5 convention because they can lose control.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_to_propose_amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution "Congress acted preemptively to propose the amendments instead. At least four amendments (the Seventeenth, Twenty-First, Twenty-Second, and Twenty-Fifth Amendments) have been identified as being proposed by Congress at least partly in response to the threat of an Article V convention."

Our first right in our contract is Article V, the right to have congress convene delgates when 2/3 of the states have applied for an amendatory convention.

Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.-------

Rubber bullets have been used by training armies for over 30 years. They kill people all the time.

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 12 years ago

Unfortunatly this is what happens when such things are attempted without strategy that is lawful FIRST invoking authority reducing the temptation to abuse power because the law first brought demands accountability. IF, demands and issues were first presented with the all inclusive democratic control of Article 5 of the US constitution, THEN we would make courts that would uphold civil rights and severly punish abuses of power under color of authority. In that situation police officers will be proving by their actions that your assembly is needed and you are asking for the means to make them accountable in the very beginning.

Get it?

Good, now save your future. Make a constitutional government. This crap would never be happening if there was one. We've never known one, our fathers did not know one.

That's pretty terrible, but what's that cut in the video at 2:57? Clearly something happened that's not being shown and that makes me doubt the story while of course still condemning police violence.
