The difference between capitalism and socialism is in the way business decisions are made.

The capitalist business is controlled by dictator style decision making. While the socialist style business is controlled with a democratic decision.

Where would you work if given the choice : For a dictator/ monarch ? Or a democracy ?

No dictator would fuck a country up this bad. I'm not trying to sound like a pompous asshole but I think you are a teenager who needs to read more about this stuff and spend a few years pondering. You have good intentions but you don't really know what you are talking about.

hamalmang, you hit the nail on the head. The poster states "may be difficult for certain readers to comprehend", when actually, it should read, "my comments will be difficult to understand and hard not to throw up."

or maybe "apologies for my dumbass topic; it makes no dam sense"

[-] 1 points by hamalmang (722) from Lebanon, PA 12 years ago

I guess it's possible that they are just lying and trying to make socialists and others look bad but I think that they are probably genuine but naive.

Yeah, people need to learn more about socialism's varied and deeper structural aspects. Unfortunately, most Americans s**t themselves when they hear the term, because they were bred in a failed education system that taught them practically nothing about the real meanings behind words. Instead, they naturally freak out when they hear Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, when, as it turns out, those words don't really even have static meanings. They change with the times we live in. You can be to the left of many things and to the right of many things, all the way from economics to abortion, and depending on what the policy was last week or last decade. The words we use have got to go. If abortion in any trimester was legal, like right now, and someone was advocating for making it illegal, you could claim to be conservative if you wanted to keep it legal. Labels are stupid and counterproductive.

Capitalism is an economic system. Socialism is a political system.

But "High Finance Kaputalism" is a Busted Flush and it is nothing short of 'Financial Fascism' ...

According to what premise do you find that under a capitalist economic system, you are forced by an arbitrary ruler to do something or not to do it under penalty of imprisonment or death?

Whose paying more? Oh ya, the capitalists... :)

[-] 2 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Or neither... And exist/work within both, in a balanced dichotomy....

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much it is whether we provide enough for those who have little." (Franklin D. Roosevelt)

"Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything." {George Bernard Shaw}

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." [George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman (1903) "Maxims for Revolutionists" - Irish dramatist & socialist {1856 - 1950} !!!]

Ummm how do you account for the fact that most businesses are headed by a board of directors who vote along with all shareholders?

Capitalism is economic anarchy

[-] 1 points by TLydon007 (1278) 12 years ago

Your view of Socialism and Capitalism seems no less misguided than the alternate presented by conservative pundits or libertarians. While I may dislike them, I don't think fighting the spread of ignorance can be done by spreading more ignorance.

an enlightened monarch, dictator, or group. most definitely.

democracy is a far less pure form of government

Where do you draw this information from?

[-] 1 points by bereal (235) 12 years ago

You can solve all of your problems for the price of a one way airline ticket to Cuba. Or just take a raft there. You'll be amazed at the amount of people you pass that are trying to go the other way.

[-] 1 points by hamalmang (722) from Lebanon, PA 12 years ago

If they live in US they would have to go to Canada or Mexico first. It is still illegal to travel to Cuba.

Please to describe how a "socialist style business" ( whatever that means) is controlled by democratic descision?

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19985) 12 years ago

Ever heard of "Co-ops" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative ) ?

[-] 0 points by MVSN (768) from Stockton, CA 12 years ago

Yes. So you are talking about a superiority of workers control od production?

[-] 1 points by shadz66 (19985) 12 years ago

@ MVSN : You (sort of !) asked a question & tho' I answered it, I'm left wondering if you actually read it !

IF you are still looking to debate, then I'll cut to the quick and 'go all in' with : http://occupywallst.org/forum/in-defence-of-the-broad-church-of-socialism-from-t/ ... and IF you still want to 'raise me' then make a play and we'll see what happens !!

[-] 0 points by MVSN (768) from Stockton, CA 12 years ago

Not the future. Now.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. Ask all former national unions. Ask the USSR. Look at how well the EU turned out.
