Forum Post: This forum is horrible... and I'm not being negative

Posted 12 years ago on Nov. 24, 2011, 10:39 p.m. EST by Soldier (3) from St John, NB
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

This website is a great result of this powerful explosion in global consciousness amplified in these revolutions and occupations.

Now I think we can all agree that there is an extreme lack, and I would even go so far as to say an extreme opposition, to the reality of an open forum for the critical issues which ensure the practices of these banking cartel and massive megalithic monopolies are not possible.

Keeping the above in mind, this forum has the opportunity and the possibility of becoming, or simply as embodying and educating, the reality of such a forum.

But not with this framework, this isn't a forum for a video game, or a message board for teens. This isn't 4chan. This isn't /b/... but it might become similar if the desired results aren't fought for.

There are many who are not in favor of global rights and freedom who will be trying to and undoubtedly even have attempted infiltration and hijacking of the movement.

Spend the money. Spend the time.

this forum is garbage trollhatten by design and intention. sub forums were promised months ago and have never materialized. the only sane option is to leave this forum and get on the wiki.

JP Morgan gave 4.5 million to the NYC police department prior to the brutal 'white-shirt' led crackdown. It seems they're prepared to pay millions more to destabilize the OWS agenda, such as derailing this website with spam, perhaps even owning it, and generally trying to make OWS look foolish and confused.

These times try men's souls. Keep your head up. Stay on your feet, remain resolute but non-violent. The vision of a better future is in your hands.

Rise like Lions after slumber In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew Which in sleep had fallen on you- Ye are many — they are few.

I'd say about half the people on this forum are actually opposed to OWS. The other half think they support it, but they really don't know much about it or else they wouldn't be offering all of their "perfect" ideas to "save" OWS.

[-] 1 points by jjuussttmmee (607) 12 years ago

some play devils advocate to see if there are good answers to problems or if OWS is just a joke. Waiting to see if they will throw their support behind it. Those people may just change OWS with their ideas, ready for that? or do you push for just your ideas?

[-] 1 points by RedJazz43 (2757) 12 years ago

How? A lot of people on this forum with ideas, good, bad and indifferent are absolutely clueless regarding the decision making process in OWS. That being the case, no matter how good their ideas, they are in absolutely no position to have any meaningful influence at all. I'm a part time occupier. I attend Working Groups and GAs on more or less a weekly basis and it is difficult enough to get my ideas taken seriously at that level of commitment. I don't see how a kibbitzer who's never even been to a GA can seriously expect how anyone would take their ideas seriously, especially as most occupiers are far to busy to spend time on the web and also very few have computer access. I actually find the decision making process in OWS very democratic, but you do have to participate, at least occasionally, if you expect to get your ideas taken seriously. Living far from a GA or an occupation is no excuse. It that's the case, then your first responsibility, if you are truly a supporter, is to get an occupation or at least a GA started close enough to where you live so that you can participate on at least a part time basis. Then, at least, you will have a context in which your ideas can be seriously considered.

+10...

That said, the whole movement lacks structure, organization, and ability to properly deal with trolls. :( Why should this forum be any different?

I believe in better days through better ways... These forums should be designed to allow the cream to rise to the top, so that it can be made into butter.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 12 years ago

agreed, it would be wise to simply install a phpbb advanced forum, and run it on a new link from the site in a sub channel.. keep this chatish forum but open a much larger phpbb forum with all the bells and whistles including sub forums and sub sub forums and categories of forums and avatars and smileys and etc.

I disagree.

I like the open format.

I like that anyone can post anything.

I like the fact that trolls get quickly eviscerated by the sharp minds of Occupiers

I like that it is largely un-moderated

It's an open discussion that never ends.

[-] -2 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

An open discussion that leads to the nowhere.

[-] 2 points by metapolitik (1110) 12 years ago

Certainly not with that attitude.

[-] 1 points by CentristFiasco (60) 12 years ago

I'm hijacking the movement? I've already have. Lots of protests around the U.S. are embracing my Declaration which goes against the "demands" put on this site, sorry. http://www.scribd.com/doc/73304557/Declaration-of-Independence-for-the-Occupy-Movement

This forum was never meant to be a place to discuss anything. It is a dumping ground for random thought. What is does do is give you an idea of what it is like on the street. When you protest the chances are you will encounter crap at about the same level as is on this board...think of it as a sort of training ground. It will eventually change probably around late winter.

As an individual of this country, I offer the following thoughts:

  1. There is already a forum with things neatly packaged and moderated for those types of folks who like things neat and organized.
  1. There is also a fabulous wiki, in case you haven't heard, for those who like to wiki.
  1. There is benefit in getting to know thy enemy, as it were. And they are good at keeping things going.

In my business we specialize in performance enhancing engineering through inspiration and cooperation.

INSPIRATION

and

COOPERATION

these are two fundamentals of the occupy movement.

WHY ARE THEY NOT EMBODIED IN THIS FORUM

[-] 0 points by TIOUAISE (2526) 12 years ago

Right you are, "Soldier", but how can we have that when this forum is infested with TROLLS, who are PAID to distract, disrupt and virtually destroy all possibility of meaningful conversation?

[-] 1 points by Soldier (3) from St John, NB 12 years ago

Why leave? it clearly has a population. Isn't it beneficial to use it?

  1. Discussion Boards for general topics
  2. Focused Discussions for specific issues

The focused discussions would be viewable by everyone but to join the conversation you would have to opt in and be elected in by the conversationalists.

[-] -2 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 12 years ago

Who would elect the first bunch of elite conversationalists? I'll be glad to pick the smart ones out.

I was born and raised in Moncton. You can trust me. ;-)

I am deeply grateful to the brave men and women of OWS for all that they are doing. But I must regretfully agree with "Soldier" that this forum is indeed a disgrace.

The site has been TROLL-INFESTED for over 6 weeks and that is a tragedy because this forum constitutes ONE OF THE MAJOR BATTLEFIELDS of the OWS Movement for the hearts and minds of the American people.

The moderating policies in place are not being enforced by the Mod Team. The trolls are getting away with murder and that gives an impression of weakness and indecisiveness (in Spanish we say "vacilacion") on the part of the Movement. WHY are we letting this happen??? MOD TEAM, please explain the thinking behind this.

[-] 1 points by nickgonewalkabout (6) 12 years ago

Consider the possibility that Wall Street may own this site or use it to weaken OWS. They've billions to protect and millions to invest in paid provocateurs. Its been reported for example, that JP Morgan gave the NYC police dept. 4.5 million dollars prior to the white-shirt crackdown.

Tenemos la misma palabra en inglés, valication.

[-] 0 points by TIOUAISE (2526) 12 years ago

Muchas gracias... but in English it's spelled "VACILLATION". :)

[-] 1 points by tonybaldwin (235) from New Haven, CT 12 years ago

Doh...

[-] 0 points by TIOUAISE (2526) 12 years ago

Check in any dictionary if you disbelieve me.... In English, it's spelled "vacillation", not "valication".

[-] 1 points by tonybaldwin (235) from New Haven, CT 12 years ago

No, I completely believe you. I spelled it wrong (typographical error). You are quite correct.

vacilación = vacillation

son la misma cosa

Unless you know George Soros personally, I doubt you have any pull about how this forum is structured. All we can do is battle the hasbara and keep the tone civilized-out them as what they are. I do it whenever I can. Try to teAch people what the real problem is that we are fighting. Ignorance. http://occupywallst.org/forum/interesting-read-about-the-constitution-and-corpor/#comment-413890. Create a nexus of people who get it

First of all-I agree. Like everything else-we let them run the platform-they divide us into little useless culdesacs so the parallel processing never becomes vertical-no momentum, mass confusion, anger and nonsense injected by the hasbara faction-this is a flypaper op... But what the hell . I've found some really intellgent folks (rarely) who truly understand the core issues. Join us at our forum

http://occupywallst.org/forum/interesting-read-about-the-constitution-and-corpor/#comment-413890

at least read it-you will learn something new

OWS divides "itself" because it is stupid, socialistic anarchy by nature....i feel sorry for you....

[-] -2 points by BofL (434) 12 years ago

Well, why are you participating? I suggest you review the discussion at the link I posted above. I'd wager you dont have the I.Q to understand it, based on your reply. OWS is not one thing. There are problematic factions within it and without. There are supporters and detractors in every category you could list, across the spectrum, participating all over the world. It was indeed spawned by a Marxist bankster thug named George Soros. And those of us who realize that crowd is trying to use a mass of ignorant anarchists to destroy what's left of our country are here to do something about it. What are you doing???

[-] 0 points by Soldier (3) from St John, NB 12 years ago

And I would say you don't have the open-mindedness needed to be the change this world needs. But your problems and my lack of an I.Q. are nothing but opinions.

And why do you assume everyone is doing nothing?

I am doing as much as I can (which turns out to be more and more everyday) for my community.

I am part of a think-tank here in New Brunswick and we specialize in education of the masses.

[-] -1 points by BofL (434) 12 years ago

Education of the masses-think tank. Sounds like were probably on opposite sides of the road then. While you are busy, no doubt, cooking up new ways to "educate" the masses-so they remain chattel slaves of the OWO -with generous donations from the likes of people Soros works for-I'll be teaching people how to liberate themselves from said bondage, through education. http://occupywallst.org/forum/interesting-read-about-the-constitution-and-corpor/#comment-413890.

This forum attracts the best minds, on this planet, and gives them easy access to posting their amazing works- this forum also supply's easy access to ows members from overseas- which without them there would be no OWS-- Never forget that ows had its roots, outside of the usa- It is a world movement - and not just for the usa. training web page http://tinyurl.com/7rvpv43
