Not listening to the MSM tell us that we're racially divided!

We have to stop letting them dictate and acting out what they are selling us! It should be no secret now about the manipulations and 'mass conditioning' that the MSM is perpetrating on us. I think 'we'...meaning 'all' of humanity, would be just fine with each other if the government would stop creating racial division.

[-] 4 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Great comment. And although I wouldn't say the government 'created' racial division, they certainly are perpetuating the hell out of it.

Hey, I think I'll make a post.

[-] 3 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Hmm...a post you say! Can't wait to see it!

Yep - promote the fact that we are all the same - and it is some that are in power that are abusing all of us.

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 11 years ago

Good term - "abusing all of us". You have it exactly right! That's what 'they' have been doing to us on so many levels. I think its time we showed them just how united we really are...we are victims no more!

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Well we got the 4 year and a two year farce out of the way - time to keep pushing issues. Fundamental change for the better will only happen with the involvement of the people. Congratulations confirmed gay marriage states. Congratulations states that defeated voter suppression measures. Congratulations you bold states that legalized pot and are now looking at the possibility of new industries and a lot of new jobs emptier prisons and a clear court docket.

we're not divided by race

[-] 5 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

There may be some truth to your statement because we may actually be more divided by socioeconomic status than race. Race is a figment of our imagination but it is very real. Why? Because we behave as if it were real so it is!

[-] 1 points by brightonsage (4494) 11 years ago

We might try eliminating the most obvious opportunities to practice racism. Federal ID's useful for voter registration, online voting, jobs, healthcare, credit etc.

[-] 1 points by ivyquinn (167) 11 years ago

Race wars are perpetuated by those who are 1) Ignorant 2) Want to incite wedge issues. I believe in fair, equal elections based on the mind of the candidate and the issues they represent.

Left/Right, Black/White, Man/Woman, Gay/Straight. These are all paradigm wars perpetuated everyday in MSM news.

If we want to truly end ignorance we have to educate ourselves on truth visibility and expose those who are truly out promoting these paradigm wars.

Welcome to OWS org world, where the only racial problem is "black racism" and all one has to do is close her eyes to the world as it is.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

We are absolutely NOT divided by race! This nation is mostly divided by our approach to governance.

One of the 2 biggest segments believe "we're all in this together" (OWS, progressives,)

The other (of the 2 BIGGEST) segments believe "you're on your own" (conservatives)

The latter uses race (sexual preference, immigration, poverty, womens rights, etc) to divide & scare their supporters into voting for them.

The former uses the promise of a better future for all to build coalitions & generate support for their candidates.

Lets get in the street, no napping! We must agitate all pols for change that benefits the 99%.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

Sure, it's a factor. Wait till we get a president who's single. That will be a factor too. Could happen soon.

[-] 1 points by Coyote88 (-24) 11 years ago

That would be interesting.

[-] 1 points by grapes (5232) 11 years ago

Interchange people's roles and have them feel how it is from different sides. Perhaps that will create some understanding and perhaps empathy. If that does not happen, "tit for tat" is still a viable option, not much worse than Hammurabi's laws.

My personal feeling is that race has grown in the modern era to replace the word ethnicity - language, culture, belief system, etc. - serve to define us ethnically. It's not only about self identity, or about how we choose to identify, it's also about how others see us - I may self identify as Welch and yet you might label me in appearance as Briton - each knows the other - but you may overlook the difference. The difficulty arises when the visual cannot be overcome; skin color serves as an impediment. This is why evolution has allowed us, in mating over time, to change our appearance - it allows us to assimilate and be accepted. This is very obvious in certain creatures - canines for example, can readily adopt the features of a foreign pack in but one or two generations - a very short period of time - but in others this difference may exist for several generations over a much longer time period. This occurs I believe because we are far more reliant on the intellectual, rather than the mere ability of certain senses, or certain physical features, often enhanced in other creatures, and therefore far more reliant on cultural education as the introduction through a process of "natural selection" of other ideas.

In short, identity is evolutionary - no one can exist without it - and ethnicity will exist as long as difference exists. While I firmly believe that love and sex are fully capable of overcoming all, I don't believe it will ever occur often enough to allow us to weed out all recessive difference - considering such things as mutations, genetic drift, etc., it is theoretically impossible short of millions of years.

We need to sort out our differences because we will never grow to self identity as "same." It's either that or we will eventually polarize to inhabit three separate regions of this country and we'll be lobbing bombs at each other.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

What about those of us who are mixed. (like the Pres) The mixed population is growing pretty fast.

So eventually most of us will be mixed and "all the colors will melt into one"

I think there are more mixed [eople than admit also. What do you think?

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

We're all "mixed" to some extent - African, Asian, Caucasian... Neanderthal, and all variations in between... but I don't believe we will achieve this perfect blend of "same" that allows us to deny all difference of ethnicity for literally, millions of years. There are some other interesting aspects to this - males for example have traditionally traveled to mate, the Y chromosome is longer and invites more mutation... females then tend to be more genetically conservative. But what this male genetic diversity actually creates is a genetic declension as one out survives the other. So I see it as interesting.

Race is here to stay and I think we should approach it honestly and openly with an eye to celebrating difference, rather than a focus on sameness.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

We have more in common than not.

Better to disregard our skin color and celebrate our overwhelming sameness.

We are of the same race after all. The human race.

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

I don't fully agree with this. My ancestors did not wander out of Africa as homo saps but rather in some more archaic form; science in acceptance of Neanderthal DNA, in some significant portion of the population, has unwittingly acknowledged this (finally). I don't fully buy the traditional Christian view of an evolutionary "tree of life," either. Nor do I fully accept abiogenesis, or the theory boundless possibility, in the successful completion of one million plus processes in the creation of the most primitive RNA, in a sterile world.

This does not make me a Godist but it does acknowledge the existence in our world of forces we are unable to even imagine due to limits of the mind and the observational powers of our science. There has to be a better explanation than that which science presently affords; if you choose to label it as "God," and define it further for evolutionary purpose, I'm down with that. I think religion has been, and will continue to be, valid in our niche as human creatures.

To celebrate difference is to afford freedom, to acknowledge and respect difference. Culturally, we are NOT the same, even on the evolutionary level - we never will be - and it is the only way. Of course, if we are speaking of the nuclear family, this is an entirely 'nother niche.

let me put this another way - this is not the Starship Enterprise, nor is it an island; as long as people are able to retreat from difference, a universal identity is not possible.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

So you do not agree that we are all of the human race?

Culturally we all want to start a family, work hard (except the idle rich), & provide a better life for our children, We all have the inherent urge to help those in need (progressives certainly, can't speak for the Ayn randians),

What cultural differences are you talkin about.?

Seems to me we have more in common than not. And it is more rewarding to celebrating the similarities than the small insignificant (color, religion,) differences.

When we focus on our differences, and draw lines (we excel at drawing lines) we frequently end up demonizing, & creating reasons to war.

Diversity is Americas unique strength, Our shared goals & love of freedom overcomes the insignificant differences.

We are all siblings. And we all do better when we all do better.

Support OWS, fight racism, Get in the street & agitate for change that benefits the 99%.

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

On the scientific level, I don't agree with current concepts of what we have more recently labeled as "race," no.

Listen, even if we all possessed this universal identity - if we were all the same and self identified as same - the Chomskys of the world, of which there are many, would still exist; would we not then label them a superior "race"? Well, intellectuals have believed exactly this for millennium.

Identity is vital to human survival; it becomes an element of survival in the necessary acquisition of resources. It will always be you against the world, your family against the world; it will always be us against them. We cannot survive any other way. And the only way to overcome this is through nano technology, nano-culture - we create a universal wealth, satisfy all needs in abundance, through the manipulation of atoms. We can do this but even then subconscious desire will remain - and a new wealth, a new difference - will be born. Absolutely. Are we to re-engineer the mind as well? And if we do, at what point do we cease to be human, to become this other creature? Is that the goal of mankind, to be some other? Hardly.

Your fight against racism only exacerbates all difference; something many of us would be prefer to simply publicly ignore, yet personally celebrate.

Really, when you think about it, it's all rather comical. Your approach to race is precisely the same employed by the feminists in the 60s. And that has since realigned itself more to my perspective. Today the difference is greatly enhanced; it is celebrated. And yet, it appears, we are more "equal."

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

So you do not believe we are all of the same human race?

Intellectuals are NOT a superior race! That is ridiculous. Nor do they believe that.

Humanity, WILL absolutely continue evolving in mind (& body). Many have evolved beyond the prehistoric notion of simply us against them.

We create larger & larger groups (until we have a one world govt) and continue to minimize our differences for the very reason that we are more the same than different.

And more & more of us HAVE evolved enough in mind to recognize that drawing lines, and focusing (celebrating?) on differences simply facilitates reasons to war.

"Imagine no religion, no country, no possessions" JL.

A large segment of our culture denies evolution & believes "you're on your own" More embrace evolution and believe "we're in this together"

Come on over to the evolutionary togetherness side! You are welcome here, and we need each other.

As time passes you will find more & more familiar people on the togetherness side. It's just evolutionary.

Peace.

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

Well, you certainly have not evolved past us against them - you've banned me from this forum five times. I would define your you-against-me as very much an us-against-them mentality.

One world government is certainly us against them; it is a very small minority against seven billion people. And while I readily accept the evolutionary purpose and goal of mass mind, I cannot help but ask, who's mind shall it be - yours, mine, theirs?

As time passes, you will find that "white" is here to stay - you will never breed it out of us, even if you and I never again say a single word about "race."

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

White is a color. No one is really white, you know that right? We are pretty much just different shades of the same color.

And we ARE all of the same HUMAN race. The thing that sets us apart from the animals is our capacity to care for one another. No?

It's us, ("we're in this together" crowd) those that care for others, against them ("you're on your own" crowd) who seek to divide, & separate. Maybe that group ain't human? Nah we're all human.

We just have to convince the selfish ones to open up, embrace love and sharing and stop trying to be one better than everyone else.

Come on in the water is fine.

[-] 0 points by jbgramps (159) 11 years ago

I agree. Racism, or ethnicity, is an inherent human condition. It will not go away any time soon. Case in point is most blacks voted for Obama because he is black; and a large percentage of Whites voted against him because he is black. It doesn’t help by calling everyone racist every time they disagree with the “we’re all one race” people. There are clearly differences between the races, ethnicities and cultures. Think about it, it seems anythime a White person doesn’t act ashamed their White, they’re called racist. No, I’m not racist, but I don’t like the double standard where every race is allowed to be proud and Whites aren’t.

[-] -1 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

White has never been beautiful; in fact many of us spend tremendous time trying to catch a tan, or trying to become brown; yes, "brown is beautiful" and virtually all agree. But there's a lot more to caucasion than skin color. The "we are one race" agenda is an attempt to politically correct; it is one intended to encourage a next generation racial mixing which, it is believed, due to overwhelming numbers, will eventually yield a darker, same color, population. Theoretically, this will promote a more universal social equality; it will provide the cure of racial injustice.

I spend a tremendous amount of time in my daily life with African Americans, far more than the average caucasion. And I spend time with Africans Americans of various origins, not just those born in, and of, the US. Most of them have no more desire to relinquish their heritage and ethnicity than the European caucasions do. But those that have immigrated more recently are far more appreciative of all things American; interesting since only one half of our African American population are the descendents of slaves; interesting because none currently here have ever been enslaved. The opportunity for poor people of all colors in this country is tremendous; it far outstrips any other location in the world, and yet it is squandered to indifference and a cultural mandate to hatred. Well, cool - we all need someone to hate at all times - it's what empowers us, allies us, against those who would seek to take advantage; it's about resources.

Amongst my own, ethnicity is some lesser issue; in America amongst diverse caucasions it's almost a non issue; almost. But those who promote this "we are the same" agenda inhabit a white world; they do not come face to face with people of other colors where visual difference serves as our first identifier, friend or foe. There, we can perhaps ignore difference, but we do not dismiss it.

The "we are the same" agenda cannot work, nor will the continued promotion of hatred in the current black-against-white-oppressor environment serve to mitigate or meliorate; all it does is fuel the animosity.

Our caucasion ancestors literally fought for the right to live; they fought for the right to inhabit, to have a presence somewhere in the world. And I'll tell you something, not all of them survived to leave descendents - millions did not survive. We that came into existence to possess life, not by chance or happenstance, but by life in continuum, will never forfeit this right to live, to have a presence, and to leave descendants; evolution will not permit any to do this. This Leftist agenda of white must be the same because he is an oppressor is not impressing anyone above minimal intelligence. We are different; I think it's time for people to get over it. Or we can continue to exacerbate this divide to eventually reach for that sword that is within us all

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

No one says "white must be the same because he is an oppressor" that is ludicrous. That is based on skin color and exactly NOT how enlightened liberals look at the world. Most white people are not racists oppressors.

And just for the record agains.

WE ARE ALL OF THE SAME HUMAN RACE!

We have more in common than not.

No one has a plan to mix the races and create a one mixed color world. LMFAO!

" the continued promotion of hatred in the current black against the white oppressor environment serve to mitigate or meliorate; all it does is fuel the animosity." This statement of yours is nonsense! Ain't no one doin that.

"yet it (opportunity in America for minorities) is squandered to indifference and a cultural mandate to hatred" Whaaaat? This statement of yours is also nonsense. More of the old blame the victim crap.

We must get into the street and pressure all pols for real equal opportunity.! We must end the discrimination in housing, school, law, employment,.and every aspect of our society.

We need all our people. We are all in this together. We must lift all boats u. Wer all do better when we all do better. No hand outs, A hand up!

[-] -3 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

You Sir, are a Leftist political liar.

I live in those streets you keep referencing, with African Americans; this is not about equality, it's about superiority. And the Left has done nothing but fan the fires of hatred to political gain.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I disagree! You don't speak for leftists. All your descriptions & characteristics of liberal principles/efforts are absolutely WRONG!

In fact the left does the exact opposite of what you accuse them of.

You appear to be engaging in the right wing, KarlRovian strategy of repeating the lie until it is reported & believed, as well as accusing your oppnoent of what YOU are guilty of!

Transparent. despicable.

Put aside the hate. Join with your fellow citizens and protest in the street for change that benefits the 99%.

[-] -1 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

I speak for neither the Left nor the Right, I never suggested that I do. You, on the other hand, do speak for the Left; yes? White center America is getting tired of being labeled slavers, or being told we are the same because we are not; we all possess an individual and ethnic identity, that must be acknowledged, if we are to meet to interact on the common ground.

Oppression was not the greatest crime committed against the involuntarily immigrated African; the greatest crime was in the robbing of his identity.

You know... we left Africa, in some more archaic form - neither black nor white - for a reason. It was not just a case of wanderlust, it was a tribal quest for resources. And why do you suppose that occurred? And here we sit tens of thousands of years later; we have perhaps evolved into more efficient creatures, but that quest is never ending. Concepts of difference are biological and exist for a reason.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

No one is labeling white people slavers. That is some weak attempt at playing the victim.

WE ARE ALL OF THE SAME HUMAN RACE!

We have more in common than not! We must focus on our common desires. THAT is the way forward.

We must come together in the street to fight for change that benefits the 99%. Whatever color we are.

Peace

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

Yes! I love all colors... I truly do - the pink and red of the lily white, the brown and black on golden brown, even the contrasting image of those who are far darker. I love them all and so do many in America. We like our diversity, we truly do. And for 400 years now we have exchanged ideas to create one American culture. But it's not one that ignores identity; it's one that celebrates difference. It should, celebrate, difference.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

We have more in common than not! We must focus on our common desires. THAT is the way forward. (not saying ignore our differences)

We must come together in the street to fight for change that benefits the 99%. Whatever color we are.

[-] 0 points by Saesneg (-166) from Linwood, NJ 11 years ago

If there is one "race," it is a race for resources; I do not buy current concepts of a Christian "tree of life" as an accurate historical representation, as relates to all which we label as "living" - evolution, I believe, is capable of anything and I think our present approach is somewhat juvenile. Personally, if it were up to me, we'd discard the word entirely, in favor of some other.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I don't know nothin 'bout no christian tree of life, furthermore I have no interest in knowing about it or anything else religion related.

I put the fairytales behind me when I was a kid.

Christianity? What are you babbling about?

The evolutionary, theoretical, conceptual, tree of life is a direct descendant of the Christian tree of life that has appeared in writings for hundreds of years.

The only thing that cures this is time.

[-] 0 points by Coyote88 (-24) 11 years ago

You may have something there. But it seems the present government/culture of this nation deems listing ethnicity( at least for those not considered "white") to be very important. Is it just for votes?
