Read the Rules

I like the fili. Part of the problem in our system of government is the volume of laws passed each year. Take city, county, state, federal, nationwide how many laws do you think pass or get modified each year? It has been made impossible for any one person to keep up with. Not one lawyer in this country even knows all of the laws, not even close. Until there is a law restricting the amount of laws that can be passed each year, and a system to refine and simplify our current laws, there needs to be something that limits the passage of laws. Also, the fili is used when a law is not all together bad, may pass, but there is resistance to changing some of the language of the law(s). It's a tool of negotiation. The Dems don't like it because they use the pass or fail of laws to engage in media hype and they can't do that without a straight up or down vote, to fuck'n bad. There is nothing that points to a high volume passage of laws as an indicator for the quality of governance.

My concerns lie with the substance of laws. Not the number. In any event when the fili is misused/abused as it has been, it is time to fix it.

I think it is fair to ask anyone who wants to fili to actually do the work of standing up in front ofthe Senate and talking.

Filing a paper makes it too easy.

Well, we hate the filibuster unless it is Bernie Sanders.

I would accept a Bernie filibuster. I might even accept others.

I just think they should be made to actually stand up there and talk. This new rule that allows them to simply file a paper and NOT actually talk is too easy.

Return it to the way it was and we should see the abuse/misuse drop off.
