"The Conservative Psyche : How Ordinary People Come to Embrace Paul Ryan's Cruelty",

by Joshua Holland :

"Scientific research into the way we think explains the reasons decent people wind up supporting horrific policies."

Now sorry but I can't copy this verbatim (takes time & effort, y'know, lol) mainly because it's a public holiday where I am & I'm a tad tipsy, so please click the link above & maybe comment below.

Thanx y'all.

That was interesting. I strongly suspected something like what the author describes was what was happening without understanding how or why. I have observed right wing nimrods and fruitcakes often reject indisputable fact without logical explanation - and when they do so they often rely upon some narrative, making their dependence on that narrative quite plain.

I often shorten this whole understanding that I have into a simple code in my mind, represented by the simple concept that most of them are simply evil

evil I said.

That perception is simply unavoidable - for very good reason. Most individuals in Ryan's position cannot get or do not get where they are with a dogmatic adherence to phoney narratives - they must be able to perceive the difference between the narrative and the reality that narrative overlooks - and they must do this if they are to bridge the differences extent in the polity on the way to election.

This does not hold true in every case - as evidenced by the eruption in the public discourse of a term never heard: legitimate rape.

evil I said.

Liars and thieves, dependent on faulty narratives and well aware of that fact, enriching themselves and their patrons at the expense of this entire nation.

We should arm ourselves with pitchforks and usher them home.

[-] -3 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

There's nothing really interesting about that. It's simply religious thinking instead of logic. The people around the Bible Belt are religious, hence they do not use logic. They use a different "epistemology" to find their "truth". Unfortunately, there is only one true epistemology, and that is science.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

you didn't even read the article and don't even know what the discussion is about.

It is entirely based on science - in fact, it is based on scientific theory and practice conducted by a mass of researchers whom, among their ranks, are those that I would indeed,

  • like to peel with a dull and rusty knife

No longer do they call themselves neuro-linguists - instead they call themselelves

  • cognitive linguists

as with George Lakoff.

go somewhere else.

[+] -4 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

I read the article, I know what it's about. The thing is, you don't even need a scientific theory to explain why religious people don't use logic. It's simply because they use a false epistemology. They grow up learning to believe without seeing, instead of learning to use logic and science. I guess it can be cool to create a scientific theory to explain this, but it's really not necessary.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

why don't you read the article - it doesn't even consider religion.

What it does do is stipulate that you, trashymask, have a conservative functioning brain - one that, because of an emotional commitment to narratives opposing religion, forces you to refuse to admit new information - and do so to such a degree that you refute all facts and logic.

you conservative schmuck

[-] -3 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

I did read the article. It talks about conservatives, people who are usually religious. The biggest percentage of conservatives in US is in the Bible Belt.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

no you didn't

you didn't read the article, and now you won't

and I don't care

IF you cannot establish some proprietary debt this forum owes you, then you have no place determining what is posted.

piss off

[+] -4 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

I never tried to determine what is posted. That's the job of moderators. They did make rules, but they are not enforcing them. It's a shame really.

In any case, I never said this particular posting should not be here. I simply remarked that it's obvious why conservatives are illogical, i.e. there's no need to look at science to understand why. They are raised on religion which is itself illogical. They learn to think illogically from childhood.

[-] 3 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

that isn't what the article demonstrates.

There was another comment you made whining about other people detracting from the forum but talking about things you don't want to talk about -

I am perfectly confident that what ever else may be discussed, it is much more productive than focusing the conversation on you . . .

"Greed and Debt : The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital", by Matt Taibbi :

"How the GOP presidential candidate and his private equity firm staged an epic wealth grab, destroyed jobs – and stuck others with the bill" & I really think that the article is a 'must read', so leaving it with you as a (self)righteous bump to my own forum-post ;-)

There is another one around too - on his involvement with South American right wing financiers whose hands are steeped in mass murder.

You don't have that link too, do you?

I haven't had time to look at the Rolling Stone article in its entirety, I will, but it doesn't look like the one I mean.

Consider 'elecTron' that like many millions of people throughout The World - I subscribe to Socialist Precepts and Principles because I realise and accept that Socialism has an Moral & Ethical Basis and Dimension, above and beyond "The Dog Eat Dog" and "The Devil Take the Hindmost" attitudes of crude laissez-fair capitalism. Indeed Modern High-Finance Capitalism (cf Corporate Banksterism / 'Hoover-Up Kaputalism' ) is a Busted Flush and any honest person in possession of the most rudimentary ethical compass can clearly see that.

Do NOT however, confuse and conflate Socialism with 'State Capitalism' or 'Totalitarian Stalinism' (as is the wont of avowed and abject 'anti-socialists' {ahem!}) and do try to understand why very many 'Economists' and 'Social & Political Commentators' with anything pertinent to say about our Global 'Debtocracy' ( http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/debtocracy/ ) are increasingly referring to Karl Marx ( http://www.marxists.org/ ) for analysis if not solutions.

Socialism is a Philosophy, World View, School of Thought & Morality and its a very 'broad church', from Social Democrats, Fabians, Christian Socialist (inspired by that Proto-Socialist, 'Jesus Christ'!) through Dialectical Materialists, Internationalists and Libertarian Anarcho-Syndicalists - to Revolutionary Maoists advocating armed resistance and violent proletarian revolution.

Ignorant and prejudiced opinions are no place for anyone to objectively assess Socialism, so step back from The Corporate MSM (ABCNNBCBS / FUX SNEWzzz etc.) induced apoplexy and prejudices and look to make your own mind up. Thus, further to the links above, I also append the following :

In conclusion, either we meekly accept The Usurpation and 'mutation under duress' of our Democracies into 'demoCRAZY deMOCKERYcy' & de facto Fascism ... or WE reclaim our Dignity, Liberty, Prosperity and indeed Sanity, as The Only 'Class War' is the one that has been waged by a Parasitic 0.01% (The 1% of the 1%), using the 1% against The 99% Working Class because if we need to work to pay our bills, that IS quite self-evidently what we are, ipso facto !!!

If it is outrageous enough - some people will convince themselves that they were mistaken - they didn't see or hear what they saw or heard. Especially if it goes against a core belief of the witness.

This would explain why good people would continue to support the openly anti-people corpoRATist party or the individual corpoRATist's themselves.

Forum attacking Shills? Living in the land of cognitive dissonance? That would explain much. And their queen trashy is back. Escaped his keeper again - I guess. {:-])

[-] -2 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

It's sad that the forum's number one poster has no intelligence to discern truth from fiction.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (34891) from Coon Rapids, MN 1 year ago

U never have been nor will U ever be a top poster - except as always - in your own mind. Besides why have a moment of honesty ( lucidity? ) and admit your cognitive failings - we already know you live in fantasy land - quite a sad fantasy land as well.

[-] -3 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

I never wanted to be a top poster. Unlike you, I'm not here to gain points. This ain't no Donkey Kong.

What fantasy land are you talking about Dan?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (34891) from Coon Rapids, MN 1 year ago

U C you need not ever worry about being a top contributor to the site as U R a ( one of The ) Top Poser.

Fantasy land? Why ask me? U R the one living there.

[+] -4 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

I'm not worried about your score Dan. The problem is you are addicted to this site and you post so much. You basically hog the space. And, since your message has NOTHING to do with OWS, it's a problem. You're here to steer the conversation towards the elections so that we stop talking about OWS. You and your Twinkle Team: VQkag2, shadz66, shooz, etc... It's a real shame. It would be so cool if this site was used as intended, to talk about and to organize OWS activities and events. Instead, it's just political babble courtesy of you and your team of nitwits.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (34891) from Coon Rapids, MN 1 year ago

U C ? That wasn't so hard now was it? You just described some of your fantasy world.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

both shooz and shadz post stuff that is closer to the OWS ideal than you do, and you aren't complaining about any of the repelican shills I see . . . .

[+] -4 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

Why should I pay any attention to the republican shills on this forum? If we are here, it's because we believe OWS issues, the republicans won't convince anyone here to vote for them. Trying to repel them is a complete waste of time and only gives them attention. I'd rather just ignore them. I really don't see them as a threat. Not on this forum.

Posting against the republicans on this site is just preaching to the choir. An utter waste of time.

The democrat shills are the real threat. First, because they post much more than the republican shills, and second, because OWS supporters are fooled by them. All the top posters here, not top by score, but top by activity, are filling the forum with political talk.

Quite honestly, if I was paid to disturb this site, I wouldn't post republican material on it. I would do just as VQkag2 does. I would turn the OWS discussion issue into a political one.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

Oh, I dunno - looks like for the most part someone or something has been fairly successful in getting rid of their bullshit.

and I certainly didn't want to hear it - it is so far from OWS mainstream thinking that it did indeed, waste a tremendous amount of resources.

As do you - why don't you go start another thread where you and all of your sock puppets can go play . . .

[-] -3 points by electron (-492) 1 year ago

Nobody got rid of their BS, they just got better at doing what they do. Their job is to disrupt this forum in an attempt to stop the Occupy protests against the government. They used to come here and post republican garbage, or conspiracy theory garbage to make us look bad. Now they come and post pro-Obama stuff to change our discussion to politics. It's trickier. They've reduced this forum to political babble. Nobody talks about a revolution here. The ones who used to post republican garbage are the ones you twinkle today, VQkag2 and friends. You are so naive.

[-] 2 points by ZenDog (13084) from South Burlington, VT 1 year ago

and they are all the same . . . operating with the same purpose . . . just using a variety of different forms of advocacy . . .

now that sounds . . ..

  • highly conspiratorial . . .

Yea...how dare Paul Ryan suggest that government live within it's means.

Fucking moron liberals think unsustainable debt is the way to go.

[-] 3 points by VQkag2 (16478) 1 year ago

Neo cons ran up the debt giving obscene unnecessary tax cuts to 1%, and feeding the MIC, for the sole purpose of then cutting programs for the 99%.

That's been their plan for 30 years.!

Disregard their lies. The debt will drop as soon as we get progressive job creation plans past the treasonous, obstructionist republicans.

"Payday lenders use courts to create modern debtors' prison" :

"Wakita Shaw's troubles started with a $425 payday loan, the kind of high-interest, short-term debt that seldom ends well for the borrower. But most of them don't end up in jail. So Shaw was surprised in May of last year to hear that the St. Louis County police were looking for her. She and her mother went to the police station."

It is disgusting! The worst kind of loans, and they MUST be made illegal!

The consumer credit protection agency should be doing something about this. Now.

And we ended debtors prison almost 200 years ago for a reason.

Great post.
