Forum Post: Strategy: Demand a Fair Economy or go on a General Strike

The economy only works for a small percentage of people. Most of the country's total annual income goes into the pockets of a small number of people.

Our government only works for the people who have the income. So the government only works for a small percentage of the people.

97% of the entire workforce makes a below average income. So the economy and government is not working for 97% of the workforce.

The wealthy in this country only have their wealth because they convinced 97% of the workforce to accept a below-average income.

Once the workforce wakes up and sees the raw deal they are getting, and they organize, our current economic order comes to an end.

Because if 97% of all workers demanded that they get an income that is closer to the current $135,000 average as a right or they will go on strike, the system will have no choice but to capitulate to that demand.

Threatening a general strike will bring about far greater change than any election.

The economy must be made to work WELL for EVERYONE, without exception. It must be made democratic. It shouldn't just work for the wealthy few.

Our current system is medieval, uncivilized and barbaric. There is no difference between being ruled over by an unaccountable monarchy and being ruled over by an unaccountable class of a wealthy few.

The current plutocracy must be replaced with a democracy.

This is what we can achieve if we made our economy democratic:

  • Everyone in society would be wealthy as a birth right
  • You would get paid an income of at least $115,000 per year
  • The work week could be cut in half
  • People would no longer have to do menial work
  • There would be no difference between work and play
  • Interest would be eliminated which would cut your mortgage in half
  • Crime would be virtually non-existent
  • We could fast-track the transition to a green, renewable economy
  • You would get paid to go to school, not the other way around
  • There would be no such thing as recessions or unemployment
  • And nearly every social problem we have would be gone

So, who exactly would be paying everyone $115,000 a year?! If you force employers to hike their pay rate, nobody would be hiring thus eliminating your solution of "no recession or unemployment" theory, and for that matter, if you are getting paid $115,000 a year regardless, why would you want to go to school to get a higher education if you will make the same amount regardless of your education level? If you do away with menial work who is going to take out the trash or serve you in line at McDonald’s? I can almost guarantee that you won't do it. None of this makes any sense. If people would get up everyday and go to work instead of sit on their butt and complain about what is NOT being handed to them, this country might get somewhere. Do you even have a job? Why not create reform in the welfare system for the millions of dollars we hand out every year to lazy people who keep popping out babies and sit on their ass at home all day drawing a check because nobody is going to make them do any different. Why not change that first and see what happens. Your parents had to work for everything that they had and so will you. I don't understand why people of my generation expect to have the same things without having to work for it. You aren't special. Get a job and work hard for what you want and stop all of the complaining!

You have to actually click on the link to understand what is being proposed.

Everyone does not get paid $115k. That is the minimum income.

The unemployment rate is high because the economy tanked, not because people became lazy or because people got pregnant.

People continue to be unemployed because there is only 1 job opening for every 5 people looking for a job. It is not because the unemployed are lazy.

97% of all workers get a below average income because the system is not fair, not because the entire workforce are not hard workers.

Turn off Rush Limbaugh. It is warping your mind. You are getting conned by a bunch of rich folk. You are their useful idiots.

Did you ever see the movie tropic thunder? Quote to remember " never go the full retard". My friend you have gone the full retard.

Making claims with no reason as to why you are making those claims, let alone any evidence, is going the full retard.

I don't have to, read your post and see if any of it makes sense.....

97% of all workers make a below average income.

The wealthy in this country only have their wealth because they convinced 97% of the workforce to accept a below-average income.

Once the workforce wakes up and sees the raw deal they are getting, and they organize, capitalism comes to an end.

Because if 97% of all workers demanded that they get part ownership of the economy and demanded an income that is closer to the $135k average or they will go on strike, that will bring about far greater change than a tent on wall street or any election.

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Ok then, if that makes sense to you, I will leave you alone.

You went from "full retard" to "ok then"?

Still no explanation as to why you think it is "full retard"?

[-] 1 points by GeorgeMichaelBluth (402) from Arlington, VA 12 years ago

Do I really have to explain it? The ideas you have out forward are nigh on crazy. There are laws to economics and sociology just like there are laws of physics. You can't just make things the way you want them. Just like you can't decide to turn gravity off. Therefore any ideas that do not fit the laws, will fail, and it's not worth wasting time on them.

[-] 1 points by DemandTheGoodLifeDotCom (3360) from New York, NY 12 years ago

There are no laws of economics.

But what law do you think this proposal is violating?

You have now made 4 comments of claims and not a single one with any evidence or even explanation.

Honestly, if this is the way you think, I can't help you. You need to open a history book. Come back in a couple of years.

For someone so quick to call someone retarded, you are awfully short on intelligent things to say.

Happy 12th birthday

You can even give one as a gift for someone's 12th birthday. Although, check with the parents first.

You need money to make sure supply meets demand, to provide an incentive to work and so that each individual can make their own purchasing decisions instead of relying on some computer or unelected bureaucrat telling them they must live in igloo houses.

Our ability to produce is limited and we can only pursue a portion of the goals we want. Deciding what we produce and what goals we pursue and what we don't is subjective. So it requires a way of making subjective decisions such as voting and the spending of money.

Their claim that the management of society is entirely technical and doesn't need voting or people spending their own money is simply not true.
