Forum Post: Ryan say "Our Medicare Reform doesn't come for seniors safety net, its coming for those seniors kidses safety net"

In other words, "I'm not coming for you, I'm coming for your kids" I don't care how you put it, Paul ryan has no interest in saving ANY part of the social safety net that has allowed our nation to defeat poverty and give our citizens a dignified journey into their old age. Ryan seeks the path of the spartans... if you are no longer of use to the state, you should be allowed to die on the side of the road.

That is just The Republicans being tactful. They know the senior citizens are the most coveted electorate.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are the most prone to vote. I just hope they are not easily convinced that selling their children out is the best solution to our fiscal problems.

After all, it was Senior Citizens' parents who gave them the dignity of retirement

He can't balance budget, still gives breaks to 1 percent, leaves post-boomers stuck iby killing Medicare. Gets wild cheers from his crowds who want us to go away and die. Thats their plan to win the future. If you can't steal from them, eliminate them.

Well it's been done in the past. And the people stood by and justified it as god's will, when natives were done away with. He and they will piece by piece eliminate the established protections, and they call that conservative. No, that's just wrong.

Take away voting rights, let them die, yea team go mitt go Ryan. Woohoo

That's Free-dum.

Doesn't matter no one is interested in the truth about spending. People want easy answers that don't impact them and it's not going to happen. The military and social programs need to be looked at, and cut. The rich need to be taxed more, but there aren't enough rich to pay for the spending we do and have done, so we will all need to pay more in taxes.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

There is plenty enough money with our wealthy 1%. They are hoarding trillions. Let's give taxing them a chance. Let's disregard the suggestion that there isn't enough money amongst the rich to address the deficit/debt.

I assure you there is more money amongst the wealthy than the middle class. And the middle class has already sacrificed! It's the wealthy who have skated by without contributing to the solution of the economic crises they created.

[-] 1 points by MsStacy (1035) 11 years ago

Fixing the tax code is the start and the fair taxation that goes with it. I don't know how much hoarded wealth there is or how much of it even belongs to Americans. The articles I've seen are about the wealthy world wide. Also, just because it was accumulated doesn't mean it was done illegally and hasn't already been taxed.

Personally I don't believe just taxing the rich is enough, but I agree that is the place to start and then see what still needs to be done.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

And how do you feel about medicare?

[-] 1 points by MsStacy (1035) 11 years ago

It's a valuable social program, but like private health insurance its costs are going up.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

It will always be cheaper than private Health Insurance because medicare doesn't have the overhead of exhorbitent exec salaries, massive advertizing budgets, obscenely large political donations.

The govt should also be able to exert pressure to negotiate prices down with big pharma, hospitals and others.

So for these reasons public options are better than private Health insurance.

[-] 1 points by MsStacy (1035) 11 years ago

Negotiate isn't what I would call it when the government steps in and simply dictates what the rates will be. That may become a bigger problem as doctors limit the number of Medicare patients they accept.

A public option would certainly have been the way to go. Although there isn't much point to adding another program to the list when we haven't worked out a way to properly tax and pay for what we do now.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Public option is coming. Several states are investigating the best way to implement it. utilizing the flexibility in the ACA.

So have no fear. Private health insurance will be going the way of the dinosaurs.

[-] 1 points by MsStacy (1035) 11 years ago

I know it's likely to happen, I just hate to see another program added when taxation is still up in the air. I think that ought to be a bigger priority at this time.

Private insurance is likely to crash and burn anyway the way the mandate tax has been written into the ACA. Companies and individuals will pay the penalty leaving insurance companies with too many customers that overuse the system.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Taxes will have to addressed quickly.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

Well you see the problem is, MY HEALTH is not something that I want gamblers...oops I mean, insurance companies, to be negotiating about, hedging bets against, or COMPETING with each other to provide me healthcare.. I don't want my health to be a the mercy of a rich exec who wants to see if he can get the lowest bidder to operate on me... If you can't follow the logic here... there is no sense continuing with this with you. Just know if you want the best price for you health care, go to a country with totally socialized healthcare... their you get the best care, and you already paid for it in your taxes... go figure huh?

[-] 1 points by MsStacy (1035) 11 years ago

Health insurance and health care are not the same thing. Insurance only works when most people paying in don't need it and never use up their premium dollars. Insurance only helps people share the costs, too many people mistakingly think it's getting something for nothing. That's why nationalized care is much better then insurance.

[-] -1 points by TheRazor (-329) 11 years ago

Medicare s vastly more expensive than private insurance. Medicare premiums are $2400 per month per couple. There are 46 million seniors on medicare and te budget for medicare is nearing $600 billion.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

No senior pays $2400 per month. Where do you get that #.?

[-] 0 points by TheRazor (-329) 11 years ago

46 million divided into $600 billion equals roughly 14000. Divided by 12 equals the monthly premium. Thats the true cost of Medicare.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

That's wrong. You got the Math wrong sorry.

Elect progressives, Vote out anti medicare republicans

[-] 1 points by TheRazor (-329) 11 years ago

Show me my error. I dont see it.

[-] 2 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

But didn't we all pay into medicare through our payroll deductions razorhead?

[-] 0 points by TheRazor (-329) 11 years ago

that still represents the "premium" of Medicare insurance. If you cant see that the true cost of Medicare is far higher than private insurance, then you are intellectually dishonest and for that there is no cure or reason to debate. Continue in your lies and reap the rewards of intellectual dishonesty.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

No need to get personal. You are wrong! I am right! Repubs are trying to destroy medicare as they always have. Dems are fighting to save it as THEY always have.

BAM! take that sucka!

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

The elderly pay nothing!! How did you miss that?

[-] 1 points by LetsGetReal (1420) from Grants, NM 11 years ago

Most elderly pay about $100 a month. Depending on income & asset levels, some may pay less or nothing, and others will pay more.

http://www.medicare.gov/your-medicare-costs/part-b-costs/part-b-costs.html

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Not $2400? You hear that razorboy!

[-] 0 points by TheRazor (-329) 11 years ago

But thats what it COSTS. $1200 per month per retiree. The taxpayer picks up the rest. Its totally bankrupt. Quit arguing with honest math.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I hear you. We can agree it's a good place to start. The thing about whether it is enough or not is, I have to remember that it is the wealthy and the repubs (who speak for the 1%) who are the ones saying it ain't enough.

So I have to disregard and say lets give it a go.

[-] -2 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

confiscate ALL their money and you couldnt pay off the debt. CUTTING spending will.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Let's try taking those fat, lazy, greedy, criminals money since they stole it from us. Then if it ain't enough maybe we'll cut something.

[-] -1 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

fat, lazy greedy criminals? they WORKED for their money. something thats alien to you.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Please everyone else worked for there money. They sat behind a desk collecting money. What kinda fool believes the fallacy that these execs work? I've been an executive. And I"ve seen the way they screw the workers.

[-] -1 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

you have no understanding of the business world. go back to your under you rock

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Attacking me doesn't change the fact that the 1% plutocrats have been unfairly exploiting the hard working people of this country. We want our money back.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yep ending welfare for the wealthy would be a very good idea to complement raising their taxes. Good One.

Though taking 32 trillion hidden off shore would pay off the national debt and then some.

[-] -1 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

you really dont get it at all. the problem is the govt is spendindmuch , much more than it takes in taxes. the only way to reduce the debt is to cut the spending.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

You Bet - stop subsidizing fossil fuel and stuff like that - and the 32 trillion hidden off shore would be cool too.

[-] -1 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

fossil fuel? you mean oil? its self renewing.

[-] 3 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 11 years ago

Wow dude, you are the comic relief that has been missing from this forum for some time now. You'll say anything to make your party's claim. Sure fossil fuel is renewable kind of like diamonds. If we are taking it faster than time produces it then it is irrelevant that it is renewable. no?

[-] -2 points by brudlo (-454) 11 years ago

the earth is about 4.5 bil yrs old. oil is constantly being produced by the planet. " fossil fuel" is a misnomer.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

If the rich hadn't been allowed to skirt paying their taxes for the past 30 years with loopholes geared 'specifically' for them, then our fiscal budget would in NO WAY be anywhere near the psychotic debt it is today. Then Bush added to that debt by erasing the surplus Clinton left the nation, by starting two unpayed wars, unpaid medicare part D, and even more loophole tax cuts that went primarily and predominantly to the upper 1%, and after the repugnacans CAUSED all this excess of debt, NOW they want to make ALL Americans, except the upper 1%, pay for the debt that the rich and the repugnacans created.... Then they have the balls to lie to the American People about just WHO is really responsible for the debt we have and just WHO are the ones deliberately STALLING the economy just so they can blame President Obama for it. The Fact that the repugnacans ARE lying is not in dispute or even the problem.. the problem is the idiots, morons and inattentive Americans who are failing their civic duty to the upkeep of our nation by staying UNINFORMED about the TRUTH of the events occurring in our nations policies and politics. It is because of those idiots & morons etcetc.. who are the true cause of the downturn of our nation, because they listen to the lies spouted over and over and over and over....., and not once taking even the minor requisite 10 minutes it would take to research the truth if you're internet capable, and if not, an occasional check of news broadcasts besides the CON(job)-servative indoctrination of FOX (I bile up to even identify them as) news network would increase the Intelligence Quotient (I.Q.) of the Average American by at least 200 points. Knowledge is Power goes the old saying...and thus has the rich and their repugnacan lapdogs worked tirelessly to strip layer after layer of knowledge and thus power out of any hands save their own, by insuring that the Average American knows ONLY what they (the Rich) want the Average American to be informed about. And so the mass of idiots and morons obey... and simply accept the lies of the repugnacans WITHOUT even ATTEMPTING to discern the truth... It is those UN-american idiots and morons who literally imprison the rest of the intelligent Americans under the yoke of the repugnacan and upper 1% ideology that 'only if the rich get richer, do the lower class get another cracker for dinner'. Wake the F* up America, stop screwing up my life because you're too lazy to hear the truth about just WHO is trying to rig this presidential election in their favor all so they can find newer ways to remove even more Constitutional rights from every American as was begun under George W. Bush when he used the 9/11 scare in order to get Americans to voluntarily let a bunch of their Constitutionally protected rights go by the wayside. Stop being a bunch of cows waiting for the butcher, get your asses to the voting booth.. I don't care if your repugnacan or democrat... think of OUR NATION FIRST, not some political partisanship. And if you somehow lack a fundamental understanding about just what OUR GOVERNMENT was created for, then understand this simple description... It was created to protect each and every citizen from the predations of another citizen by limiting the amount of advantage or opportunity one has over another. In other words it was created to insure a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.... and if you are too simple to realize just how unequal that playing field is today due to the deliberate manipulation of our tax code and regulatory system by the 1%, then you are likely unable to read to begin with.

Paul Ryan as the GOP vice-presidential candidate proves one thing without a doubt: the American political system, as it now exists, is beyond repair.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

The system is NOT beyond repair, this vp choice does not indicate that it is beyond repair.

[-] 1 points by matoinyanawacis (157) 11 years ago

I wouldn't say 'beyond repair' but definitely too dysfunctional with its current collection of repugnacan miscreants whose only goal is the goal of the 1%: Shrink or destroy the functionality of the Government so savagely, that it will no longer retain enough power to rein in the depredations and misfeasance of the 1%. If Americans don't wake up and realize just what the 1% is doing, then they all need to start wearing sackcloth, because they will one day soon be living the life of serfs.. only difference now is that the repugnacan party hasn't gotten complete control of all the Government branches, both state and federal... when they do, say goodbye to your freedom, because your life will become a cross between "V' for Vendetta" and "In Time". Suffice it to say, only the rich will receive succor. When that day begins, Civil war will begin again, only this time, the advantage of military superiority will be on the side of the tyrant..
