Forum Post: Remember these guys?

Posted 11 years ago on Feb. 26, 2013, 1:48 p.m. EST by GirlFriday (17435)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Do you remember this group here? I had to tell my kid that he is no longer allowed to use Wikapedia simply to get a new search term. You know, because the dirt bags got a hold of it.

I was thinking about them today. Here is their website. http://nms.com/about

Here is the little page of people that work for them. Of course these could be fictitious too. http://nms.com/about/team

But, here is the fascinating part. Under culture: Happy Holidays NMS Style

Sit back and enjoy NMSers telling tales of their Holiday memories, events and traditions. We only ask one thing: please don’t judge. http://nms.com/about/culture

Lovely video. This is the part where we pretend that they are really decent human beings.

Anyone have any favorite PR firms?

I thought CP+B did a good job with their Truth campaign about smoking. Very attention grabbing.

[-] 1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Yup, thats the one. Not the campaign, but the same company.

Ain't multipronged marketing/PR a wonderful thing if you're a Koch, among a multitude of others?

It's why I don't trust wikipedia for much of anything beyond a simple definition these days.

I have to wonder what they mean by mayor battle.

New York

Detroit

LosAngeles

There's no link and google doesn't return anything useful.

There's no link and google doesn't return anything useful.

Hallmark sign of low grade crap - no connecting information.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I hate to tell you, but this is considered one of the most effective PR firms in the world.

It's sign of stuff they don't want to talk about.

Watch for smear campaigns and bad stuff being said about all three of those cities mayors. In particular, distortions of what we already accept as bad behavior or political weakness, on their part.

When there is no one enforcing the laws of truth in advertizing.

This Is What We End Up With.

Pure shit under high pressure being sprayed non-stop over all society.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This goes far beyond advertizing, and the only thing that law seems to cover is trying to sell a mule as a horse, and in some cases, not even that.

How many false Democrats did the (R)epelican'ts run in the last election?

Was anyone prosecuted for that?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Again truth in advertizing = NONE

Repercussions for lies told/sold to the public = NONE

WHITE COLLAR CRIME = PROLIFIC

Ever seen the Century of the Self?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmUzwRCyTSo

I should look for something similar for Ivy Lee.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Not that I can recall. Bookmarked to watch later - Thx. I have however heard the term before - generation of self - age of self - growth of selfism etc etc etc.

I always equated entertainment and advertizing as two of the main promoters of such.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This is the story of Ed Bernays. If you haven't seen it, take the time to do so. I guarantee lights will blink on that you didn't know you had.

He wrote the book on propaganda for the 20th century and beyond.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I had some early years education on that ( if you can believe it ) in grade school no less - continued on through Jr. High. Was a more subtle concept/subject by the time High School rolled around though.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Maybe I'll hunt around when I get back.

Ya, I love PR firms. Where the people come out with the pretense of being decent human beings but in reality they are slimy pieces of shit.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Get your reverse mortgage now. assholes

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Yeah I know, it's not like they are trying to sell you a new brand of detergent.

They have taken Ed Benays' and Ivy Lee's life works to dimensions even they never imagined.

It's why I don't trust wikipedia for much of anything beyond a simple definition these days.

Wikipedia, just like serious books, comes with references you can check.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Anything that can and has been edited by Sarah Palin comes off my list of trusted reference materials.

There are many other "groups" with an agenda editing every single day.

Editing it for the purpose of propaganda.

[-] 0 points by satohirona (-20) 11 years ago

Encyclopedias can be edited too. Any book can. Wikipedia as the advantage of having people constantly checking the resources. Usually, false information gets fixed very quickly. It's much more dynamic than a book which needs to wait for the next edition to fix errors.

I'm surprised a fervent occupier such as yourself does not find beauty in Wikipedia. It's a community effort. Wikipedia is to information what Occupy wants to be for government, that is anarchy. It's amazing that you have professionals from all over the world who contribute daily to make Wikipedia bigger and better. An absolutely beautiful project. And, they're not in it for the money.

It should be an inspiration for all of us.

Community efforts like Wikipedia is what Occupy needs to support.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Texas School Book Suppository(sic).

Education itself can be "edited". In this case, in an extremely poor, aggressive, negative fashion.

As far as wiki?

There are entire, very well paid marketing firms editing wiki on a daily basis.

They do this for corporate ( that means WE are paying for it) entities who's purposes remain nefarious.

So no thanks. It's good for the occasional info lite.

Nothing more.

[-] 0 points by satohirona (-20) 11 years ago

I support community projects, and recent research papers show that you're wrong in your assessment that Wikipedia is less trustworthy than books.

http://readwrite.com/2010/03/14/why_wikipedia_should_be_trusted_or_how_to_consume?&_suid=1362767688915023009463865309954

Instead of dishing Wikipedia because you fall prey to myths, as an occupier and supporter of anarchism and community efforts in general, you should support Wikipedia with every bone, muscle, and drop of blood in your body. You should contribute time and energy to improve it by fixing errors, adding to articles in which you have expertise, debating page edits, etc... Creating a better world demands efforts. You can't just site there and complain. When there's a community project you jump in and help. God knows there aren't enough community projects out there. Isn't that what Occupy is all about; encouraging community efforts? Wikipedia is one of the biggest community projects around at the moment.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I can certainly believe that, if the books came from the suppository(sic).

Wiki was a nice idea, until the corporations figured out how to use it for their own nefarious reasons.

That's no myth..

[-] 0 points by satohirona (-20) 11 years ago

Wiki was a nice idea

You should never use the past tense in such a way. Occupiers should never give up on community projects. If we had given up because corporations took over news agencies, bought out smaller family owned companies, corrupted governments, etc... we never would have started Occupy in the first place.

If you're going to give up because of the 1% you might as well pack your bags now and enjoy your retirement without worrying about the possibility of a better world.

Giver-uppers don't belong with Occupy. We need strong minds who still believe change is possible.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Past tense is quite correct, as wiki has passed the expiration date of it's usefulness.

Will you ever deal with gist of what I said, or are you playing game?

[-] 0 points by satohirona (-20) 11 years ago

Wikipedia has passed the expiration date of it's usefulness? Data sharing, DIY projects, collectives, community science, open-source hardware and software, etc... are just getting started. Where have you been? People are tearing down the walls of institutionalism and coming together like never before. There's so many interesting community projects all around the world. Hacker spaces are becoming more and more common.

Wikipedia represents people working as a community to pool their knowledge and create something huge without getting paid. It's absolutely fantastic. These are the types of projects Occupy must support. My God, don't you see the significance? My friend, Wikipedia is the biggest worldwide community effort ever made by man. It's a model for all things Occupy.

I guess some prefer big businesses selling expensive encyclopedias over a world-wide community effort to make a free one available anytime anywhere.

Do you support Occupy? Do you support community projects? (It's OK if you don't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.)

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

All you support is wiki.

WTF?

You're just playing a game.

Good luck..................................:)

[-] 1 points by satohirona (-20) 11 years ago

All I support is wiki? Where did you get that idea? I support all kinds of ideas and projects for Occupy and write about them all the time. I support community efforts because I believe that people can do amazing things when they pool their talents and energies. We don't have to wait for others to do it for us. As interconnected communities, we can achieve just about anything.

I support anarcho-syndicalism:

I support e-democracy:

I support Occupy's change in imagery:

I support comedy:

I support community insurance:

(My thread on this topic got shadow-banned)
Here's one from another poster:

I repeat, Wikipedia is the biggest worldwide community effort ever made. Not only that, but it has been successful to a very high degree and keeps improving every single day. It has millions upon millions of pages written by people from all over the world and they did it without pay. 15 years ago nobody would have thought this to be possible. It's a beacon of hope for Occupy. It means that worldwide community efforts are possible! It means that people do put their heads and energies together to accomplish great things. Not supporting Wikipedia is essentially equal to not supporting Occupy as it doesn't support the idea of the power of communities.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I don't see your name anywhere in any of those.

Why do lie?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Anyone have any favorite PR firms?

Surely you jest.

Unless of course you consider Sierra Club e-mails and the like by other such groups. Then there are more then a few.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

How about this one Big L Solutions?. It's done by this guy here

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Ummmm stinkle

IDK mayhap I'm still a little hung over from that right wing astroturf day of resistance on the 23rd. http://crooksandliars.com/taxonomy/term/40962

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yep - it can get quite nauseating - funny/SAD that the general public does not complain. And now psychological warfare has been "approved". So much for any sort of truth to be found in PR now.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

The political whores behind the mess.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yep - the sell-outs in office in collusion with the corpoRAT destroyers of the world.

Stick - public beating - tar - feathers - free ride out of the country on a rail.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Stick - public beating - tar - feathers - free ride out of the country on a rail.

I think you are being too kind here.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I'm a lover. {:-])

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Would libe(R)tarians do that?

I know there used to be several boat loads of them around here, and there are at least a few left today.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Oh, of course and if you read his blog he says that it's time to start thinking of Libertarians as a business and admits that it will piss off a few of the libertarians in the process.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Exactly the reason the Koch's regained control of CATO.

The bimbo Friday would be better off telling her kid, that mommy wastes hours upon hours sitting slack-jawed in front of computer, posting ignorant statements, to about a dozen people everyday. Time to call family services

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

That the best you have? Or did you get your ass banned under this ID already?
