Hi Occupy,

Since getting involved in the Chicago Occupy movement, my awareness in how much government has a choke-hold on the lives of Americans was shattering.

In the beginning of January 2012, I started working on a documentary exposing the corruption and exploitation of taxi drivers in Chicago.

I have completed a 15 minute short gives a glimpse of the many problems that plague the taxi industry, not just in Chicago but throughout the nation.

Although I'm very proud of freshman efforts as a film maker, I've run into the same challenge that most film makers run into, lack of financial resources.

I feel this is an important story that must be told. I'm asking the Occupy community that I embraced 13 months ago to please assist me in exposing governmental exploitation.

My short can be watched on www.cabslaves.com

Even though financial resources are in need, what is more important to me personally is that the level of awareness be raised. After watching the short, if you would like to help, please share my film short with someone you know that might be sympathetic to taxi drivers.

Thank you,

Eric P. Martin

I'm a NYC taxi driver myself. What you talk of is true. I imagine it's worse in Chicago than it is here. I have to honestly say that the conditions and structure of the business brings out the John Wayne individualist in taxi drivers who routinely cut each other off in more ways than one. I surely appreciate public understanding of how hard the job is and how unfair the set up is to drivers. Saying that I would put organizing resources and money and risk elsewhere. Organizing us cab drivers is like herding cats. Fahgeddaoudit!

No problem.

If you put a comment in this post you created every so often, it will move up to the top of the screen so people see it.

I stand with the hard working decent taxi drivers who risk their lives simply trying to provide for their families.

The owners exploit them and take too much profit from them. Medallions in NYC are so overpriced an average driver can't afford it and only the wealthiest 1% have bought them and hoarded them

Stand with the taxi drivers.!
