The best way to counter the 2 party system is to put up a bunch of OWS candidates. Can you think of some potential OWS candidates for POTUS, Congress, State, and Local elections?

How about a sprinkle on both sides.

My interpretation of the Declaration is that the process of electing two delegates from each congressional district to attend the National General Assembly (NGA) in Philadelphia July 4th 2012, will set up the infrastructure to field candidates should the List of Grievances be ignored. It may seem like a lenghty process but it follows the 'proper channels' , would garner tons of buzz, and gather steam. The NGA will rock!

No one will vote for you

Keep it simple. People should focus on their own Congressional district. Just run one person in the primary for each party. Shake up both party's. If nothing else it will get the electorate thinking. There is an old saying all politics are local.

the tea party shook up the congress in 2010. doing anything about the banks and wall st. is just a pipe dream if people aren't willing to show up, organize and vote.

Right. And they got the biggest debt ceiling increase in the history of the planet, spending is up, no official budget, increasing the police state, and continuing to blow up the middle east.

They got played. And the left will probably play the OWS crowd.

Why not a 3rd party? Straight talking OWS candidates with a plan, not more lies, just to get elected.

You are right.

In other words, OWS co-opts Congress by finding their own candidates as either Democrat or Republican (depending on their core beliefs). OWS candidates who are smart, reasonable, and willing to compromise with thoughtfulness rather than knee-jerk ideology. A force of influence on both parties. Progressive thinkers in elephant/donkey disguise. I like it.

I like it too - and i'm tp - and i'm not stupid enough to vote for a third party
i'm voting for sarah -> donald -> rick -> michelle -> herman -> newt
i want more scalia clones

Well, I don't know about that. Wouldn't they have to lie to get votes from either party? Why not have a 3rd party and straight talk from the OWS candidates?

[-] 1 points by Phanya2011 (908) from Tucson, AZ 12 years ago

No, they would not have to lie. I believe this movement is comprised of members of both parties. Any OWS sponsored Republican would not look like today's candidates simply because he/she would be an outsider without political debt to anyone, but with a genuine desire to get something done. Same with OWS sponsored Democrat. But of course, the people who agree with the ultimate goals of OWS would have to support them completely and work for them tirelessly within their own districts. And there are already some members of Congress who are aligned with OWS goals, so support for them would also be warranted. After all, if we really are the 99 percent, we should be able to garner a lot more votes than the 1 percent. All they have is money and the power to create incredibly bad campaign ads. Let 'em spend their money to no avail. That would certainly get a big point across!

Your comment prompts an ever bigger question.... What exactly are the goals of OWS? It's cold and rainy here so I've been reading the forum all day and can't figure it out. To be honest, some of the posts are down right scarey or insane at best. There are some good ideas but they sure are few and far between.

Well, as time goes on, I think a core of dedicated, thoughtful people will emerge. We could start forming a huge political platform right now and see what happens. Everyone contributes a short description of a desired goal in legislation. First see how many ideas come up. Analysis can come later.

Some core NYCGA folks talk anarchy and tearing down the system in a protracted standoff. Regular folks want the government to redress our grievances or suffer the consequences at the ballot box. The goal today is to prepare for Philadelphia July 4th 2012:

It should be someone from among your local friends. Smart, thoughtful and non-ideological. You can win a local election without a lot of money. The President isn't as important as replacing members of Congress, which is in essence a local election.

yes, yes, yes this is the best idea in a long time.

[-] 0 points by owsttruthtalk (3) 12 years ago

Yeah, but who??? What would they have to stand for?

[-] 1 points by whisper (212) 12 years ago

Can't think of any candidates that I would vote for, but I don't disagree that this is what should happen.

It just can't be someone with all that hope and change BS we all heard last time!
