There are obviously some students on the forum today. Some of you are making asses of yourself and doing a grave disservice to Occupy. I damn well hope if you get media time that you don't embarrass the entire fucking movement like you're doing right now. Haven't at least some of you tripped, morning glory? Something? You guys are kill'n me. You're about as introspective as a fly.

You cannot be socialists and capitalists at the same time?

Co-ops are socialism?

Omg.... hopeless... wtf...

Michaelangelo was interviewed by a young artist when he was 82 years old.In response to the young man's incoherent idol worshipping,Michaelangelo merely said:"I am still learning." Also,sour-sacks-of-sad drive people away from the forum.People who keep hope alive in the face of discouraging actualities and who adamantly insist that another, better, fairer world is possible AND attainable are more attractive than people who are obsessed by bogus standards of acceptability with regard to the forum.Anybody who wants to participate in the forum does not need to conform to a standard of any kind beyond honesty and basic civility.

The number one threat to growing an alternative movement is pigeon holing it into the current disasterous system.

I very much consider myself to be a person still interested in learning-in a world where it is literally impossible to run out of new and interesting things I have never even heard of before, let alone more and new information about things I am already aware of.The way I see it,one of the main functions of #OWS is to inform, support and encourage each other.Forming cliques, whinging, and categorizing and attacking each other is not going to help build a better #OWS.

But what are you interested in learning. Tell us what you're reading and why.

I am very interested in political economy.I have read 3 interesting books lately-Sandberg's Lincoln-The War Years 1861-1864,Griftopia,by Matt Taibbi and Death of the Liberal Class by Chris Hedges. All excellent.

I finished Grand Illusion a while ago, very good book on how repressive this democracy truly is.

Oh God, I couldn't bear to learn another fact about the USA. We all know way too much about this country. How many American politicians, past and present can you name? recognize? I'll bet hundreds at least. We need comparative perspective. How many Brazilian public figures can you name. Spanish? Polish? Even British?

Thats interesting. I do like to read biographies.

I will look into some stuff.

The last good book I read was Perry Anderson's The New Old World, ostensibly about the EU. I thought ' This will be boring, but I'll persevere and learn a lot.'

Well, that was totally wrong. The book was fascinating, often hilarious, Anderson slaying every sacred cow in the pasture. But I really didn't learn a thing in the sense of having a clear coherent, structured understanding of the growth and development of the EU.

Hmmm....students?....

That would make sense.

Why would you not go to classes? you pay for them, why would you missed them to hinder your own self and potentially lose and opportunity for what you want?

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

Of course I would go to class. Well, I went to trade school.

I think you just embarrassed the movement. If MLK spoke as you do, segregation would still be in force.

pointless speculation

[-] -1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

lol, how you glean segregation from what I said must be a wild psychological ride. Trying to segregate people into the camp of socialism or capitalism with no middle ground I think fits your fear of segregation far better. IDK about you but I have no intention of just siting back while people provide ammo for Occupy opposition. So, I apply pressure for improvement. I didn't make that case by stalking people I don't agree with, unlike someone we know. I'm a very forward person, it's a show of respect. Obviously you'd rather be patronized and coddled and I'll take note of that for our future exchanges.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

My reply had nothing to do with segregation. It had to do with the quality of your discourse. If Martin had used similar language, he wouldn't have succeeded.

If we are to succeed, we need to raise the quality of our speech to equal the righteousness of our cause.

[-] -1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

Well, I'm honored you would compare me to MLK but I'm just some random human. Like most humans, I bitch from time to time.

[-] 0 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

I compared your actions to the actions of someone superior, one we should all emulate. If we can't raise our level of discussion to his level, we will be leveled by the same oppressive forces we attempt to throw off.

[-] -1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

Sorry, not in to idle worship.

Not the person, the courage and the method.

[-] -1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

See the about section of my blog. I have been advocating for Occupying the media and taking over the conversation for some time now. Not my fault you have lofty goals and no ideas on how to fulfill them.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

Looked at you blog. Liked the inclusion of graphs to illustrate your points. There is nothing wrong with lofty goals. We share the same one, getting the money out of politics and restoring justice in an unjust world.

Blogs are one way of getting the message out. I'm out on the street every Friday getting the message out. I just want our message to have the most impact possible.

I was watching your reading on the analytics. How you like the music?

Glad we agree.

[-] 1 points by jrhirsch (4714) from Sun City, CA 11 years ago

If the music was in Rebellious Rhythms I didn't hear it. My connection is incredibly slow. How do you drive traffic to your site and do you have a way of measuring the traffic?

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

I drive traffic by using social media. The big three, Facebook, Twitter, Google+. Yeah, blogger has analytics built in.

Strange you didn't listen because only 1 page view on 4 topics but 4 page views on RR alone. All within the last hour. I would figure if they listened to RR they would also view a least one post. Oh well. Not interested in tracking IPs on my blog, at this time.

Average of 600 page views per month for the last 3 months.

vulgarity, obscenities, offensiveness, insults. Sounds like you could use a lesson as well, maybe from underdog.?
