Forum Post: Let us get our Priorities "STRAIGHT". An Open letter To the Government of The USA the People of The USA and to the World.

Posted 11 years ago on July 26, 2012, 6:05 p.m. EST by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Sent this day 7/26/2012 An Open Letter Addressed to The President of the United States of America and to all of the currently seated members of Government and to all of the citizens of the USA to the people of the world and to all governments. Please Handle and deliver/share as you would a letter delivered by the USPS.

Mr. President and all currently seated members of Government and to all the citizens of the USA, to the governments and people of the world.

1st let me state that these letters I send to you I also send out on social media to all of the citizens of the USA to read as well - and I suppose it could be considered as open letters to the world also.

Anyway today's subject: GET Your Priorities Straight.

People over money. Health over money. Environment/World over money. Peace over money. Education over money. Justice over money. Prosperity for ALL over extreme wealth/money for the very very few.

Question:

Why do we not support a "living wage" for "ALL" a living wage tied to inflation so that it does not ever fall behind actual costs.? It would be Healthy for the individual and Healthy for the Economy. Every working person able to contribute to societies revenue for the health of society - no working individual that needs Food Stamps or Medical Assistance or Rent/Housing Aid/Assistance or Heating assistance or transportation aid or clothing aid.

Question:

Why do we not support Universal ( Not for Profit ) Health Care? The unregulated profits of this service ( health care ) have run costs through the ceiling. This service ( health care ) issue also includes the for profit insurance industry and the for profit Pharma industry.

What I am after is the stopping of abuse - the abuse of money by the greedy is one of those abuses that needs to end - as money affects all aspects of society.

Wealthy Tax Dodgers:

Any money as can be traced should be traced and proper taxes applied. We have to end this culture of screwing society so that the individual can be obscenely wealthy.

Criminal irresponsible financial practices in Banking and Investment need to be stopped and prosecuted accordingly.

Mining/Drilling/Fracking for minerals/Oil/Coal/LNG:

All - ALL - Necessary Mining/Drilling/Fracking for minerals/Oil/Coal/LNG - NEEDS/MUST be environmentally CLEAN/RESPONSIBLE/ACCOUNTABLE - DAMN THE MONETARY COST- MONEY IS NOT LIFE - MONEY IS NOT HEALTH.

Everything that can be done- From the very the start of a process and all the way through every step of a process "to stop pollution and destruction" of the environment ( at the site - and off of the site of the extraction ) MUST BE DONE. Monetary cost is not a valid concern. LIFE - ALL LIFE - IS THE VALID CONCERN!!!

Stop lying to the public and stop corporations from being able to lie to the public. There is no such thing as clean coal ( toxic ash dumps ) the mining of coal also destroys the environment and one of the worst practices ( mountain top removal ) pollutes the surrounding environment land and water, there is no such thing as clean oil ( oil spills offshore as well as on shore from drilling extraction then the spills that pipelines cause in transportation ) pollution from burning oil for power production, no such thing as clean LNG ( pollution of the environment poisoning the ground water ) from the fracking extraction process.

The issue is shit canning the fossil fuel industry which is killing us, and destroying our environment and poisoning our water. The thorium reactor has a smaller foot print and is safer than uranium reactors. Hydrogen can be made and placed into fuel cells and burned as fuel with a water exhaust - replacing gasoline.

Look into the liquid metal battery it is made from abundant cheap materials and would allow the storage of power/electricity for use on demand.

The issue is we need to change our fuel base our technology to non polluting.

And we have the technology right now.

ALL of THIS and MORE. Use the Health of All as Your Guiding Principle!

Good post DK. This is a wonderful way to make them feel the 'heat.'

Thank you - just trying to keep communications and outreach happening.

[-] 1 points by Odin (583) 11 years ago

That, education (which is part of out-reach), and resistance to the corrupt status quo is what is needed most.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Motivating people to get involved in writing letters of complaint/protest/descent I think is another good way to get people thinking about getting more involved - that writing these letters makes people organize their thoughts on the issues and gets them considering what is really going on in the world and what needs to be done - and then they can consider the fact of what is actually happening and see that it is not enough and that what is being done is not being done very well ( to say the very least ) and that having begun expressing their thoughts they will find that this needs their attention and they will begin to look for ways to do more.

This is why I advocate a letter writing campaign and that those letters be copied to this forum and then shared out on social media as then others can see these communications and perhaps be motivated by them.

And we have the technology right now."

..my favorite line in the whole post ! DKA, you still have it !

yes we have plenty of technology .. we even have the tchnology to easily supply every human being on the planet with clean drinking water .. Question- so why don't we? Answer- it is the system we have created that prevents us from doing all we can ..and being all we can be . The system we live by is "win or lose" and everyone wants to win .. losing is a horrible alternative. ..and that means win at all cost .. to the health, to the environment, and to the future .. WIN WIN WIN .. it's what the system we created is all about.. Winner take all !If fracking is poisoning our drinking water , it doesnot stop the system .. the system continues to create winners ... when there are winners .. than naturally there will be losers .. and since the winners make the decisions ..than naturally they keep winning .. and so goes the way it is .. the it has always been .. and for some .. the only way it can be.There are winners ,and there are losers .. you can not have one without the other.. ..Unless ? we create a new system .. a FAIR system ! where everything is done to better the world we live in .. in which case the whole world wins ..! and there are no losers .. except of course the "sore losers" those whom would lose their wealth gained by their evil doings of today.. but even they , the "sore losers " , would be treated fairly in the new system of fairness and equality.. so who knows .. maybe even the sore losers would join the rest of the world and become winners .. there is really only one way to find out........................let's try a fair system.

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Right-on - lets try the fair system - guiding principle = Health and Prosperity for ALL.

That's why I had to send out the lets get the priorities straight letter. Government may not read and share it but it is also out on social media for everyone else to consider. twitter - communications when you don't have a functioning government and the media is a blackout.

I love your positive attitude. To get a healthy and fair society on the tracks - it will take major involvement by the public and a major amount of maturity on everyone's behalf to kick personal issues/wants out of the picture and instead focus on the good of ALL - Health and Prosperity for ALL - stop worrying about an individuals satisfaction and look at societies/worlds satisfaction.

↥twinkle↧stinklepermalink

Well that's another interesting question. As we improve the overall collective environment, we all gain on a personal level.. it truly is a win win outcome. Take care of the environment, and we all live better lives..

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Absolutely - the maturity comes in realizing the gains by taking care of 100% of the population and in having a healthy environment and then protecting individual freedoms ( that do not infringe/conflict with other individuals freedoms/life ) and you have the complete win.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

We have to remove individual wealth , and private enterprise. These are the culprits that have caused the most damage to society and the environment. The collective would have never allowed such damage to occur. decisions would be made on final overall outcome , and not individual personal outcome.. It's where we must make the biggest change in our rules of civilization. Greed has to go...Greed is no longer welcome in a fair world of collective decision. As you mentioned we have the technology to do things right.. as a collective we would all agree on doing what is right.. especially environmentally .. and if it means creating more jobs, so be it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.. Trying to clean the atmosphere of all it's harmful polutants, and the rivers and oceans , ..is going to be a difficult task .. in reality .. we will probably have to let nature and time do most of the repair.. but we must stop contributing to the damage .. and to do that we need to take control of the decisions from private hands ..and place theses decisions in the hands of the collective.

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Absolutely - Think of the employment opportunities - just in cleaning up environmental pollution from things like coal burning ( ash dumps ) - setting up water purification in areas that have suffered from ground water pollution - capturing CO from the atmosphere that was put there by fossil fuel burning. You are so correct that the world will have to do much of the healing itself - but we can help the process along by healing the world where we can.

In the meantime while this is going on - think of the employment opportunities available in implementing new green technology to our infrastructure and in upgrading industry.

Think of the employment opportunities in exporting green technology in sales as well as in aid.

A rebirth in education excitement? Study for a green life - YOU - can make a better world - starting - TODAY. Kids - YOU - HAVE - A - FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

We can do so much .. we can improve so much.. we certainly have the know-how, all we need is 'the money'

Which I can supply freely, but all at equal pay.. unlimited for all work and education..

What should we tell the kids? Equal pay ..! or ..sorry forget the future..?

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I would look at feeding interests and aptitudes/abilities in the educational system. Make the work the reward not an idea of lots and lots of money. Satisfaction in what you do not what you get. Make sure every job meets at the very least the means to living without the need of outside aid. I honestly don't know at this point in time how I would address an equal pay for all jobs at all levels of experience and skill or varying industries.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

Well.. take your time .. think about it ..

I can provide an unlimited currency for all jobs and education ..and all at an equal hourly pay .. the system is ready. ..The world is waiting.

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

It is something that I do ponder - I think part of the problem is that there is so much to correct - that I can't put the kind of attention to the proposition that it needs. Starting out with a living wage for all entry level workers would in my opinion be a huge step towards achieving a standard of equality.

Another huge step forward would be balancing values - state to state then go world wide in the practice.

Why should - say - a house in Minnesota cost 150,000 and the same house in Colorado cost 300,000 and in California cost 500,000 ?

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

Values should be determined by actual cost to produce, and not by supply and demand. The buy and sell profit motive will be eliminated.. IT SERVES NO PURPOSE..

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

A value standard needs to be implemented. An apple on the east coast should cost the same as on the west coast. The only adjustment in price should be for the cost of transportation if it is brought in from somewhere else. Shipping should have a standard cost per mile as well as per pound and gasoline as well ( later nitrogen or whatever fuel is used when the fossil fuel is kicked to the trash can as a fuel source ). We need a set of universal standards for use - just like standard of units of measure have given us interchangeable parts in manufacturing. Something should not have a different price ( substantially different ) just because you are in a different state.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

An hour of time is a world wide standard unit of measurement.

A value standard of an hour of time is equal to everyone. regardless of profession, an hour of time is equal in measurement. A human being should not recieve a different wage simply because they are in a different profession...

I had proposed a 'cap on profits' , where all mark up between points of buy and sell are capped.. excluding transportation costs. The reason transportation costs were excluded, was simply because transportaion of a product can not be determined by the actual cost to produce the item. transportation is a seperate entity, and will be added on to the price of the item being sold. ie: manufacture price + mark up cap + transportation = total price.

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Same job/Same pay = standard labor cost + producer profit limit/cap = standard manufacturing cost + Equal Transportation charges per mile ground standard rate air as well = standard transportation fees + equal retailer mark-up limit/cap = standard retail = stable standard market, even standard competition = level standard market/economy.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

You're GOOD !

Originally, I did not want a cap on the manufacturers profits.. I was only placing the cap on the middleman ie. the market between points of buy and sell.

Same Job/Same pay.. this is where equality comes into the picture.. every human being shall recieve the same hourly pay , regardless of profession.. anything else would be discrimination .. plus it throws off the hour standard value of time. equal time /equal pay for all humans creates a standard value. and a fair world ..

Lets also step back and look at the final result.. with a cap on profits .. economy will be booming ! Sales will be high .. job creation will be high .. wages will be high .. and the markets will not beable to inflate prices due to a rise in demand... created by the booming economy .. the end result .. the work force will enjoy a better standard of living , for their hard earned dollar will retain and possibly gain it's value.. allowing for a little more R&R.. which is possibly the greatest part of the whole outcome .. If we can afford to relax and enjoy life a little more .. than a cap on profits has done it's job properly..

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

And the thing is - wait - wait - wait - OK - as volume of sales goes up - the more revenue is coming in so your percentage value has increased ( by volume not inflation ) and so you are making more money but are not inflating costs to do it and not screwing your employee or customer to do it either.

This would be if your cap was percentage - it would be different with a strict monetary limit/cap.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

What the market won't admit.. is how with greedy profits they slow down the volume of sales .. and this damges everthing in the economy.. Greedy profits .. cause hardship for the customer.. greedy profits lower sales volume .. to a point where demand decreases .. and manufactures layoff employees .. Greedy profits are the culprit to recession.. And do merchants have that right .. to effect the economy in such a NEGATIVE WAY ? I say we cap them .. at a rate where they earn a meager existence.. Since their true payment is in the freedom of running their own business .. that so called entrpreneurial spirit.. they have no boss to answer to .. that alone is worth more than profits.. lol

question: if a greedy merchant were capped on his mark up how low can we cap him before he decides to join the work force and get a job..? would he sit on his ass all day for minimum wage rather than report to work for someoneelse ? I think he would not want to give up his freedom of running his own business , and would hang onto that freedom as long as he could .. plus I don't believe a merchant would like working a real job .. ? work is a painful thought to a merchant .. dreadfully painful.. they like easy money !

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

With a percentage cap an owner could make more money on volume - the product would still cost the same - but if he were restricted as to the hours he could work his employees - he would have to expand operations to meet the volume demand - more employees - product still goes out at same cost.

Yes the practices of greed will eventually kill the market as the prices become to high and the market dwindles ( dries-up ) due to lack of cash for purchase - unless of course you push things out by establishing a running credit program so that your customer/consumer can borrow to pay for what they can't afford out of pocket - but then there goes the escalation of debt which will continue to mount-up on the customer/consumer - eventually the customer/consumer can not afford to make the minimum monthly payment - then you have default - loss of revenue due to the customer/consumers inability to pay - then you have repossessions - but no new customers/consumers as everyone is in the same boat - so now you are out of business as you killed your market.

Yes, volume of sales will replace high sales profit.. but sales will eventually fall back as customers eventually buy"enough" .. Remember this will create an increased standard of living for the customer aka worker, and with an increase of living standards the worker will be able to relax a little more ..and enjoy life .. due to a drop in cost of living, due to a sales mark up profit cap.

Your second paragraph describes what we have currently.. the market was thriving on borrowed money .. until everything went broke .. and home foreclosures began .. lending stopped .. you see the boom was really a bunch of borrowed money poured into the economy .. but as soon as that borrowed money started flowing into the economy all prices went sky high .. home prices went through the roof .. and that borrowed money ended up piling up at the top and not recirculating and creating enough jobs for the people whom borrowed the money to repay their loans .. so it all went crashing down .... as borrowing subsided and sales began to drop .. jobs were the first to go .. than default on loans .. and this escalated into a recession panic where everyone started tightening up and even further downturning the economy .. there may be an opposite correlation between the fever that went along with the boom .. and out of control pricing .. to the panic that went along with the recession and all the talk of foreclosures and economic collapse.. but in it all the middleman still tried his very best to maintain the highest profits possible .. there was no let up on his greed..

A lot of people blame the government .. for allowing the easy loans .. but the government was only trying to make it easier for people to loan money .. they did not have control over the greedy merchant whom took advatage of the sudden high demand brought on by all the borrowing ... and prices went through the roof .. in hindsight, when the government laxed the borrowing regulations .. they should have also implemented a cap on markup profits .. the situation we are in today would be a lot different.

Fracking Frackers.

With a climate change denier in charge of the Mineral Resources division, it's unclear how the Department of Environmental Conservation will rule on fracking.[1] So, to protect their land and water, cities and towns across the state have passed local bans on fracking. But even that is too much for the frackers.

One driller plans to sue the state to block local fracking restrictions.[2] They say that when the state approves fracking (of course they assume it'll be approved), the DEC will have to allow it everywhere. Local control be damned.

Sign our petition urging Governor Cuomo to block all fracking in New York and to keep all New Yorkers safe.

It's not enough to just push for local bans now. With the frackers working to overturn the rules communities have already passed, it's clear that nothing short of a full-scale state ban will be effective.

We cannot afford to risk New York's precious resources, especially our water, by allowing companies to pump mysterious toxic chemicals into the ground. Famous brewers and restauranteurs, the backbone of our tourism industry, have already said they'd move out rather than risk working with contaminated water.[3]

The DEC reached out to the frackers for input before crafting its rules.[4] The agency can't be trusted to make this decision fairly. So now, it's up to Governor Cuomo to protect New Yorkers' health and safety.

Sign our petition today to urge Governor Cuomo to ban fracking now!

You are entitled to your apathetic belief or is it your attempt to have people continue to opt-out of getting involved?

The letters as I have stated before while addressed to the government they are also addressed to the public to the world for consideration.

I really do not care if the government reads and/or responds to the letters. They are getting them anyway.

By sharing them with the public on social media I intend to allow people to read them and make their own decisions about what is going on and maybe they will want to write letters of their own to be read or not read by government - but shared with the public/world for their consideration. This expression of thoughts may start to tell on government as the mail they are sent increases. But even if it does not the exercise of venting communicating may well inspire people to get more involved.

Writing "open letters" to corporate puppet politicians and posting them to forums like this is not only a complete waste of writer's and readers' time but also counterproductive. Here are just a few reasons why:

(1) Politicians rarely read the letters and emails sent to them by their constituents, and likely never see those that are posted to forums.

(2) Even if they read this letter - which is unlikely - by writing to them in this manner you reinforce that they have the power and you don't - that they are the master and you are the serf. You empower them by subjugating yourself.

(3) Other slacktivists seeing such letters posted to forums like this may be encouraged to write and post similar letters thinking that they make a difference, when the reality is they are little more than feel-good mental masturbation. ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply permalink ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply edit delete permalink

And yet you concern yourself with as you say - My Waste Of Time - Because you are altruistic?

Um I don't think so.

You attack me and my posts and comments because you fear that others will see the truth and sense in them and start getting involved.

Otherwise you would leave me alone instead of stalking my comments and posts.

Nothing I wrote favors apathy or "opting out" of getting involved, liar:

YOU are the one who is not involved, DKAtoday, although you work hard to project otherwise. Your "open letters" serve no positive purpose for all the reasons I listed above, none of which are negated by your trollish blathering. ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply permalink ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply edit delete permalink ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply edit delete permalink

People have got to know what we are looking at - people need to be shown the reality. They aint gonna hear it from the government and they aint gonna get it from MSM.

People share and circulate this information. Social media is our only news source for the public at large.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

Support for a good idea is the hardest thing to find.. people have been 'boiled' into numbness and complacency.. stirring them up' , or trying to get a response will be difficult .. Making change will be even harder. It would be interesting to read what history will unfold for this era of time in the lineage of mankind. ..a million years from now !

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Well unless we can get a major portion of the population into action ASAP - there may be no history written in the very near future - let alone in a million years - unless a new life form develops that thinks has curiosity and a need to explore history of the planet they live on.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

The human race will survive .. but they may go through a few ' dark ages' millenia of dark ages .. with all trace of civilization wiped out .. who knows .. we may become like the wild animal .. with no reading or writing skills .. and loss of all language .. until a million years go by ..and than ..we .. reinvent the wheel !

That is actually a common story line in many works of literature - Humanity after the Apocalypse. Well if that happens they will be able to find plenty of non-biodegradable garbage to study and ponder.

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yeah - really - nothing to worry about - if you take in Stephen Kings original book ( prior to the screen play version ) of The Stand:

A biological warfare virus escapes containment at the military lab - few survivors remain after the spread of the contagion and they gather in Colorado and Los-Vegas the anti-Christ controls the group in Vegas.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

All of our problems would look small (non-existent) in comparison .. to a world biological epidemic.. except perhaps .. famine..

I think humans fight .. because we like to fight .. it gives us some kind of pleasure .. satisfaction .. When Rome conquered Europe .. and all the fighting stopped .. well guess what Rome collapsed .. it may have been the fighting that held them together .. a bond that came unglued when the unity created by war ended .. or perhaps it was just an unfair system that no one supported .. and thats why it collapsed .. so many theories .. must have been quite the time .. to see Rome fall like it did .. and the centuries that followed .. makes me belive .. we really don't know what's around the next corner for mankind ..

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

The WWI influenza pandemic was pretty nasty - millions dead world wide.

I have a pretty good idea what to expect for the future of Humanity - but it is not a popular thing/view/belief so I don't talk about it. Instead I try to see if something different can be done for the time I have left of this life. I would love to see an outbreak of peace prosperity and sanity - for the children of today to experience.

So I advocate.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

I believe God warned us / told us about the future .. so that we would change it's outcome.. I believe destiny is in our hands.. and by the world wide turn out for advocating change, I say we have a pretty good chance of creating a pleasant destiny.

[-] -3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

By the forum rules this is a taboo subject. But I will go so far as to say - that I believe we are still here and the reset button has not been pushed -YET - as we are proving beyond any shadow of a doubt to Gods 1st children/creations that Man can not govern Man. Then the reset will be pushed.

[-] 2 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 11 years ago

That's interesting.. and I think you are right .. we are tryinng to govern ourselves .. but what other choice is there ? .. really? We have to create/establish a set of rules and regulations.. it's civilizations only chance .. and I think we can do it. I think we can develop a fair system, one that looks out for the health and survival of the human race and our environment.. And I think we need to make this a PRIORITY . The biggest problem we have right now .. is how decisions are made and who is in control of those decisions.. For the most part decisions are made according to personal gain .. and not collective gain .. certainly not concerned with the environment.. Where the environment is just a hinderence to the 'Bottom Line'. ..So we need to take the power out of the hands of the greedy and place that power into the hands of overall health and welfare of the people and planet.

This all can be done through democracy and freedom.

I love your positive attitude. To get a healthy and fair society on the tracks - it will take major involvement by the public and a major amount of maturity on everyone's behalf to kick personal issues/wants out of the picture and instead focus on the good of ALL - Health and Prosperity for ALL - stop worrying about an individuals satisfaction and look at societies/worlds satisfaction.

if more people told their elected officials how they feel things might change.

In my state my usual a-hole repub governor changed his stance on the Transcanada pipeline because tons of people wrote and called his office say they didn't want the pipeline over the sandhills water reservoir.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhPSBuKrPIw

He even sent regards to Obama asking him to deny the permit.... as my asshole congressman has been acting like a paid tv ad for the pipeline even though Transcanada's documents submitted to the canadian government openly show it would raise energy costs by 4 billion per year. But Lee Terry was born an asshole.

I think we need a firestorm of complaints to be sent to the government State and Federal and to the MSM. These letters of complaint to be shared out on social media for others to see and consider. I do believe that they can make a difference.

Thanks for the video links - this Bullshit pipeline really makes me sick - nothing but lies about it's possible impact from transcanada and nothing but bullshit about jobs creation to get it done - America does not need this oil and it is not even intended for the American market.

[-] 5 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

for sure! i do it all the time. Pretty sure I'm on a "do not respond" list at Lee Terry's office. I don't even get the automated "thank you" responses.

but if Lee got a message from let's say 100,000 thousand different people... that will get a different response.

I mainly make phone calls. But I send emails when I get phone reps that act like answering machines.

Yesterday I called all 3 offices of Harry Reid and told him to support the audit the fed bill and put it up for a vote on the senate floor. I wonder if the reason he had a change of heart has anything to do with his vote and support for Ben Bernanke, the same guy Bush supported.

TAKE ACTION! No More Favors For Shell Take action today!

Shell Oil is attempting to strong-arm the Obama Administration into granting it a waiver from air pollution limits for offshore drilling in the Arctic. No decision has been made yet but the waiver could be granted any day now. Please read the urgent message below and take action to ask the Obama Administration to protect the Arctic and enforce the Clean Air Act.

Shell Oil is asking the Obama Administration for one more favor: let Shell break the law and violate the Clean Air Act, and in return, they will start drilling in the Arctic Ocean this summer.

Even though Shell has known for more than a year that its Noble Discoverer drillship would not be able to operate cleanly enough to meet its air permit limits, they have waited until now to ask for a last-minute, emergency order to operate this summer.

Tell the Obama Administration to hold Shell accountable to their existing permits and to the law!

Shell’s vessels are anchored off Alaska, poised to steam towards the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas in the Arctic Ocean. Final permits and thick sea ice have delayed this summer’s drill season, but Shell is still pushing to begin this year.

These waters are home to threatened polar bears, endangered bowhead whales, walrus, seals, birds that range through every state in the Union, and many species of fish. Drilling in these waters threatens these species and the vibrant indigenous Alaska Native culture that depends on a healthy Arctic Ocean, both already under stress from rapid climate change.

And now, Shell has gone back on its promise not to exceed pollution limits. Please tell the Obama Administration that you want the Arctic Ocean protected and the Clean Air Act defended.

Sincerely,

Colin O'Brien

From The Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

Now this is how you take the fight to right-wingers!

At a hearing last week on overturning Citizens United, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) put an "expert" from the Cato Institute in his place when he tried to defend anonymous, big-dollar spending in elections.

It was a huge moment, the crowd cheered, and the Rhode Island's Future blog ran the headline, "Sheldon Rips Cato Flack Over SuperPAC Spending."

Watch the amazing video here. (And sign up for our campaign-finance briefing with the senator tomorrow at 12pm EST!)

Sen. Whitehouse blasts right-wing Cato

Senator Whitehouse is national rising progressive star. He's strong, strategic, and knows how to fight.

Tomorrow, he will join Progressive Change Campaign Committee members for a national briefing about the next steps in taking back our democracy -- including reversing Citizens United. He'll also answer our questions!

Watch the video -- then RSVP to join tomorrow's 12pm EST briefing with Sen. Whitehouse by phone or online.

From Change.org : On Cancer and the FDA.

There's a new petition taking off on Change.org, and we think you might be interested in signing it: Ask the FDA to ban cancer-causing chemicals in all of our food. Sign Susan's Petition

FDA: Get cancer-causing chemicals out of ALL food packaging now!

Started by: Susan, Portland, Oregon

The FDA just announced that baby bottles and sippy cups can no longer contain bisphenol A (BPA), a controversial hormone-disrupting chemical that studies show is linked with cancer, obesity, heart disease, and other life-threatening diseases.

This is a huge step towards getting dangerous chemicals out of our food supply. BPA isn't just found in baby products -- routine tests have found BPA in more than 80% of Americans' bodies. It's used in packaging food, lining cans for soups and sodas, and more.

Protecting my kids doesn't stop when they graduate from bottles and sippy cups. I am counting on the FDA to help regulate this dangerous chemical so the people I care about most in the world are safe -- no matter how old they are.

I know that together we can make a difference. Last year, I helped pass a ban on BPA in children's products in my own community in Oregon. Doctors, researchers, and medical experts testified about the risks of this chemical and the importance of keeping BPA out of our children's bodies. I was moved to tears by the hundreds of people who signed my Change.org petition in support of that campaign, and I hope this petition will make the FDA take notice, too.

Major brands have already begun distancing themselves from BPA due to consumer outrage. These companies have shown great leadership, but moving company by company and product by product is taking too long. BPA will continue to make people sick until it's out of our food supply for good. We need strong action from the FDA now to protect us, and our kids, from these dangerous chemicals.

Tell the FDA to ban BPA now.

Click here to sign Susan's petition, "FDA: Get cancer-causing chemicals out of ALL food packaging now!".

You can also check out other popular petitions on Change.org by clicking here.

One of these days I am gonna get round to writing an open letter to every cancer group that I can find an e-mail for and ask them to get together and lobby the FDA - not only about cancer causing plastic food packaging but also about harmful Synthetic food and drink dyes that can cause cancer and other health issues ( dyes make things look pretty but cause major health problems they have no redeeming value whatsoever ) also have them lobby on the stopping of the use of hormones and steroids in our poultry & live stock as these things can also cause cancer and other health issues in people. Get them to go after the source/cause of many cancers while they also look for cures. Stop the causes of cancer people.

On special Interest money.

From - PCCC - take back democracy.

Yesterday, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) made national news when he spoke with Progressive Change Campaign Committee members across the nation about next steps for campaign finance reform.

Here are some media reports about the call:

Los Angeles Times: Sen. Whitehouse vows to continue effort to alter Citizens United

Huffington Post: Sheldon Whitehouse, Disclose Act Sponsor: 'We Can't Give Up'

Listen to call highlights.

Here are some things Sen. Whitehouse said:

On PCCC activism: "There was such outpouring of support for the DISCLOSE Act. It was really astonishing to a lot of my colleagues...I thank you for how energetically you all have supported this effort. And I’m with you all the way."

On why these Democracy issues matter: "It’s important for us to remember that this isn’t just a process problem. These big money donors are not out there fighting to protect the middle class. They’re not out there fighting to protect Social Security. They’re not fighting to do something significant about climate change...They’re fighting against all those causes."

On how states and towns can help: "States and municipalities are investing their own money...Apartheid in South Africa is a good example of how citizen engagement can lead the government to change its investment strategy, which, in turn, can help accomplish these goals. There’s no reason that public money should be being invested in companies that won’t tell the public what they’re doing with it in the political sphere.”

On Elizabeth Warren's Democratic convention speech: “I think she has a really important message that will resonate with folks. And it’s right smack down the line of what we’re talking about here: That special interests have over and over again preyed on the middle class, that the middle class has been taken advantage of over and over again with the tax code, pensions, attacks to Social Security, with attacks on Medicare and that that’s an important context for us to approach this election."
