Forum Post: Koch Brothers exposed (documentary)

Posted 11 years ago on Sept. 24, 2012, 6:09 p.m. EST by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I just finished watching this documentary on Current, and highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. There is only one word that comes to my mind regarding the Kochs, and that word is despicable. These people personify and embody everything OWS is protesting. I always knew they were bad news, but after watching this admittedly highly-biased documentary I have come to the conclusion that if only a fraction of it is true and factual (and all of it might be), that the Kochs are the antithesis of what a democracy should be. They are throwbacks to the French Aristocracy and abusers of wealth on a massive scale. They are giving all of the "normal" wealthy a really black eye.

On OWS#S17, I spent time on the 'LiveStream Chat' and this documentary was repeatedly referenced. It is very powerful viewing and clearly 'Exposes The Kochs' (ahem!) for what they are. This is a 'must watch' doc. for anyone confused about The Koch Bros. and The 'TP Astro-Turf Phenomenon', so thanx 'Ud' for the excellent 'forum-post'.

Waving a big handful of money produces a lot of boot lickers. But they are fooling the evangelicals, the libertarians and buying (and intimidating) the politicians. I haven't watched it (yet) but knew some of their philosophical influencers and those of their father. They definitely aren't choirboys.

I am watching the video now. All that I have seen thus far I have verified from other sources so you can too.

I want to thank for for referring me to this video. The Florida couple, the McDowell's, I recognize. I worked with Jerry about 30 years ago and have had no contact with him since then. I could give you his history but, he is a genuine person, very smart, an expert in communications. I recognized his voice instantly.

Layer by layer the Koch's are being exposed. I believe that exposing their holdings and practices will ultimately have a cleansing effect.

[-] 3 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

You are very welcome for the video. This information needs wide exposure. Forward it to as many people as you can.

It is hard to contemplate that such people as the Kochs could actually exist. Most average people will NOT believe they can exist, and that is how they get away with their shenanigans. I think Hitler said something like "the bigger the lie, the easier it is for the masses to believe it", or something to that effect. I understand that now. People simply cannot comprehend that enormous evils can be carried out because they themselves have a sense of morality that would not allow for the mere contemplation of such evils, let alone the actual carrying out of them. This is why great evil can occur. It is incomprehensible to the average mind.

I know a lot of people who just can't believe something like this is happening.

"Koch Brothers Exposed." I know this is free online now but would anybody like a copy of the DVD to hold a screening at your school? I can get as many of these as needed as long as I send it to a campus address. Please PM me to get a copy.

The ultra rich have been buying our government ever since ronnie took over.
Also - see "The Powell Memo" - that started it all in 1971
on: http://corporationsarenotpeople.webida.com

spoiler alert - there is a THIRD koch brother - who hates what his brothers are doing!

[-] 2 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

Yeah, the third Koch is in that documentary too, and that does make it interesting.

Oh boy, more juicy gossip!!

[-] 1 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

Descendants of the John Birch Society, need we say more?

YES!

Loud and often.

This whole Great Society, New Deal, democracy thing is like garlic, holy water and sunshine to these monsters!!!

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Oh no.. that's just petty gossip.

Ask hchc, he'll tell you. No details of course, but he'll tell you.

Just like voter purges being inconsequential.

[-] 0 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

"And that the hoax of democracy is useless. We proved it in a seven hour drum circle trace."

Everything he parrots can be found in GOP campaign ads.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

There, or in various front group and astroturf sites.

In fact, he follows the teabagge(R) internet forum disruption video pretty closely.

[-] 0 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

Most likely.

Here's a bit more in the way of Koch exposure.

"October 16, 2012

In the beginning, way back during the G.O.P. presidential primary, Charles and David Koch, the billionaire funders of the Republican right, didn’t seem all that keen on Willard Mitt Romney as he made his bid for the party’s presidential nomination. But now they’re all in behind the Mittster, as evidenced by, as AlterNet reported , the vaguely threatening letter Koch Industries sent to its U.S. employees and retirees, auguring bad things if the wrong guy happened to get (re)elected. "

It took a little time but their money did warm up to Romoney.

http://www.alternet.org/election-2012/5-ways-koch-brothers-money-has-grip-mitt-romney

[-] 2 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

Kochsuckers.

And I find it interesting that your article mentions something about "threats" to employees if Obama is re-elected. That may be an overall R strategy that is being quietly disseminated among CEOs, as the below link to another article indicates (which btw is illegal).

http://www.examiner.com/article/report-multiple-ceos-and-businesses-threaten-workers-over-obama-s-re-election

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Fear, hate, lies and subterfuge is about all they have.

http://www.propublica.org/article/big-electric-companies-behind-grassroots-ad-campaign-in-florida

There's so much of it in so many forms, it's hard to keep up.

[-] 2 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

Yes shooz, pure lies and propaganda designed to strike fear in the heart of the older population. The plain fact is that unless you are making more than $250k per year you're not going to be impacted much at all, if any. So of course the rich, whether R or D, would not like Obamacare, because it is mandating that they contribute that which they can certainly afford to contribute, but that they do not wish to give up (i.e. one stinking dime of their miserly booty).

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

The thing is, this crap is going Worldwide.

It's not as simple a D vs R. It never really was.

Here's the disclaimer on the anti global warming crap from the daily mail.

http://www.skepticalscience.com/misleading-daily-mail-prebunked-nuccitelli-et-al-2012.html

I still say, the best way to identify them is as Neolibe(R)tarians.

[-] 2 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

Yes, you're right neo-lib is better description. It is not really party related at all. I am from the old school so I tend to forget that. But there does seem to be more of a concentration of this mentality in the Rs as opposed to the Ds, right?

Do you agree with this (admittedly biased) article?

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

By and large I do agree with it, and Sinclair was correct..

A writer far too overlooked these days.

As I've stated before, the Neolibe(R)tarians infiltrated the (R)epelican'ts first and foremost, although it is now bleeding over to the democrats as well.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You expect people to actually believe you arent a libertarian anymore?

Claiming occupiers are libertarians, and destroying the world? This from someone who was a career libertarian. What a scam you run.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

That was your most confused and off topic comment yet.

Besides the fact that you are the one who constantly defends Neolibe(R)tarianism.

You who believes it's all gossip.

Now would care to make an on topic comment?

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Its not all gossip, and apparently you even helped to create it. How ironic.

Occupy want a decentralization. Obama/Romney supporters want a global takeover, but dont realize they are being played.

Screw the Koch brothers. They are closer to your views than mine.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Still confused and off topic? Yes.

Still intent on lame attempts at insult? Yes.

Still a Bircher? Signs point to yes.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Done quite a bit of protesting stuff, way more than you ever thought about doing, do you are wrong there.

Travon case wasnt stand your ground, thats his slimey lawyer claiming it is. I personally think that if someone comes in my home, I have a right to defend myself, even if it is possible to run out the back door.

That lawyer in the Travon case and you have quite a bit in common. Distortion artists.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

"slimey lawyer"? Are you referring to Travons lawyer?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Was Trayvon's lawyer arguing that it was justified because of stand your ground? Are you really asking that?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I'm asking if your "slimey lawyer" slur was referring to Travons lawyer.

NO? Then say so.

Is the truth so difficult for you that you must utilize misleading riddles?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Actually, given your history, chances are you have read more John Birch stuff than I ever even thought about, which is zero by the way.

You need to stop self loathing so much and assuming that anyone who wants change must be the person you used to be, I guess. You could learn a lot from occupiers if you would open up a bit.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Sure it is buddy.

Sure it is.

There are still some around here that remember you calling the 99% asses.

It's you that needs to open up.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The night of thanksgiving - you know the day where we gather to give thanks- when people are trampling each other to buy a bunch of useless shit, I will top post it for you.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Go "right" ahead.

Your insults demonstrate your heart.

[-] 1 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

One day the Republicons and the rich folks who own them will reach their limit and see the evil of their ways and seek rehabilitation into the humane society.

Wait, no, that will never EVER happen.

We have to stop THEM!

VOTE!

[-] -1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Obama extended the Bush cuts, right?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Repubs held the middle class tax cuts hostage!

Right?

Anti dem partisan campaign attacks!!!

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You should stick to defending drone attacks. Although a lot of the money needed to borrow to bomb is the result of this, so perhaps you are onto something. How much does the Republican party pay you?

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

No one pays me!

Your partisan question trying to lay blame for the wealthy Bush tax cuts extension on Pres Obama when you know your repubs held the middle class tax cuts hostage serves your republicans.

I'm just makin sure whoever comes along sees that you are a partisan pushing republican talking points.

And I am against the drone bombings.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Ya, saying extending the cuts (that we campaigned on stopping) is bullshit is really republican. Amazing.

Go back to stating that bombing 6 nations in 4 years is acceptable.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

I never said bombing 6 countries in 4 years is acceptable. That's just you lying in a desperate attempt to make me look bad.

Pathetic.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Sure you do. You are a 100% defender of the current warmonger. We didnt like the last one, but you want to give the new one a pass.

Your words, not mine. You stated you were fine with hundreds of killings because its better than Bush. Quite the activist you are.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Never said I was fine with it. I said and I say again. I'm against the drone bombings. I protest and sign petitions against them. I've encouraged many friends and family to do so.

You are lying when you claim I support the drone bombings.

You must resort to lying because your repub talking points cannot stand up to the truth.

Ransom for UI hostage.

No news at the Unicorn ranch?

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

The old blame the other side game. The same game as the last 50 years. And yet the rich always come out on top. War. Banking cartel. Rights removal. Donations/bribes.

Seeing a trend right?

[-] 0 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

Then why don't you side with the people the rich are against?

That would require honesty.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I do. Welcome to Occupy. Please leave blind Dem party faith at the door.

[-] 1 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

The campaign is over, now it's time for democracy. That's how it works.

Action time!

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

This is not a democracy, sorry.

Have you done a lot of campaigning?

[-] 0 points by WSmith (2698) from Cornelius, OR 11 years ago

Have you read a lot of GOP/Rove talking points memos?

Resistance is NOT futile, people!

And the fact that the documentary showed the kochtopus grab to "buy" a large public school system was crushed gives us some hope

[-] 1 points by Underdog (2971) from Clermont, FL 11 years ago

Yes, I think more and more people are waking up to them. Hopefully more information like this documentary will make it into the public's awareness. That's all we can hope for.
