Forum Post: It's time to take our country BACK! Tax the Rich!

Posted 9 years ago on Feb. 24, 2015, 5:24 a.m. EST by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

That's all, just wanted to get that off my chest.

Decided to include this here:

I think it's important to bring up wealth inequality from time to time, most of the posters on here are political hacks just trying to piggyback on the OWS movement to kickstart their political parties.

Everyone taxed fairly at the same rate. 100% net worth tax with a $5million deduction.

[-] 2 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

Sounds a lot like an inheritance tax, (or you are allowing for an awfully high annual salary), but that is along my thinking as well for inheritance, first $5,000,000 no tax I would maybe go to a 90% after that but either ideal would be hard to get through, especially in light of the recent election. I would also remove the cap on social security and apply it to all forms of income, those two things and and it would turn this whole thing around, oh and tax all forms of income cap gains/dividends/wages at the same rates or if one class of income has a lower rate it should be wages not investment income.

what does that mean ?

[-] 3 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

if the current money system and distribution is to continue|

funding the peoples government must be provided for

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

Bernie Sanders has suggested a transaction tax, but he also approved some of the airstrikes, so I know as far as you're concerned he might as well be Jeb! for you it matters not if the people eat, what matters is if they conduct airstrikes.

[-] 0 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

yaeh

that and my failing belief in the integrity of the money system makes me wonder at taxes

the government should produce the currency necessary to keep the economy moving through projects to serve the people

Can we live independently? 7/4/15

The economy, the collective works and transactions of our culture, fails to provide for an ever larger fraction of the human race. We tell ourselves that people get what they work for. Probably 90% or more believe they themselves don't deserve more, even when they know they work hard indeed. They don't realize the lie, even when they know that those they work for are profiting by our hard work in their employ and debt - not their own work.

A few of us are starting to awaken to the fact that most of us will, like our governments, never be out of debt to the winners we, in our stupidity, admire for the wealth they extract from our labor which they organize . . . for their profit! If you think your desires make you like them, think critical difference in scale of the harm done to the community in the pursuit of wealth by the greediest and most successful.

Each day more of us are unwanted, unneeded and left to malnutrition, inadequate health care, homelessness and death, by those who've sabotaged our under-built to begin with safety net. Will we awaken in time to do what's necessary to save our lives?

Some suggestions follow that outline things that might be done, which adhere to the notion that what we all need and want to live can be done in common on a non-profit basis. And we can keep down costs and pay ourselves enough to survive and even thrive in satisfaction, if not happiness.

The list: as always, police, emergency services and defense are common needs that can not be entrusted to private for profit entities, human or otherwise;

The FIRE sector produces no product but skims almost every transaction and endeavor, which adds unnecessary costs of profit and exorbitant executive compensation. All banking, investment, insurance, rentals, real estate sales etc. must be handled on a non profit basis of, by and for the people, if we are to survive and free ourselves from debt bondage.

The following economic sectors are similarly argued: Chemical industry and energy production, resource extraction and mining; Medicine and Pharmaceuticals; Communications, data processing and education; Mass Transportation.

Agriculture may be limited to individual family operations and cooperatives. Big agri-business, like big pharma and monstrous chemical/energy must be eliminated as for profit enterprises.

I think it's important to bring up wealth inequality from time to time, most of the posters on here are political hacks just trying to piggyback on the OWS movement to kickstart their political parties.

[-] 4 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

You constantly and unquestioningly push the Democratic Party and - what? The rest of OWS here are ''political hacks''?! Are you just a little biased there perhaps? You seem to do good and important work regarding wealth inequality and I do recommend everyone to watch the two documentary films that you posted with embedded links here..... http://occupywallst.org/forum/at-minute-38-this-film-explains-rich-people-are-ri/ but our exchange there is really instructive too :) + Perhaps you will also appreciate this great link - http://21stcenturywire.com/2015/02/23/the-tax-wall-street-party-americas-answer-to-syriza/

I push for the complete and total destruction of the GOP and I am open to any available means to get the job done. you are here in hopes of building your own party so you attack the Dems and leave the GOP alone because you are trying to pick off the stupid to feed your ego.

[-] 5 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

You are not open to ''any available means...'' because you are completely wedded to the Banker and Corporation controlled Democratic Party. That Democratic Party is 'attacked' by OWS because they sold out The 99% - a long time ago. You know this to be totally true yet hold fast to your tribal loyalty for one particular side of the so called 'political divide'.

You can pretend all you like that I did not answer your points here - http://occupywallst.org/forum/at-minute-38-this-film-explains-rich-people-are-ri/#comment-1057130 and in our exchange there and you can run but can't hide, from your own ignorance and inability to make your case without appealing to motive and personal attacks. You are fooling no one.

Try - https://www.popularresistance.org/

[-] -2 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

You defend and elect the GOP, You are nothing more than an agent of the 1% it is clear to any who can read.

You pretend to want change while doing all you can to ensure the current rule of the 1%.

[-] 3 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

Consider, all elephants are animals but not all animals are elephants - even if you yourself are actually an ass and.. at what point did OWS become so infiltrated by Democratic Party workers like you? What happened around here when some backs were turned? Are people still allowed to think outside the box?

And, sadly, the precious Abby Martin says goodbye on "Breaking The Set."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yia5kEz0jo&feature=youtu.be

[-] 4 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

Abby Martin is a sad but hopefully temporary loss to Americans - or at least to those who knew about her. That's a very heartfelt clip of her last show you link to and hopefully she'll go on giving voice to the voiceless - http://www.mediaroots.org/never-stop-breaking-the-set/

[-] 5 points by beautifulworld (23827) 9 years ago

"...Love each other. Remember that nations are invented, borders are invisible, prejudice is learned. We're all human beings who bleed the same blood and shed the same tears. Every time a person suffers from Detroit to Gaza that's our brother, that's our sister, that's our family. Yes the problems of the world are daunting and yes, suffering is inescapable but there is so much breathtaking beauty on the planet that needs to be honored too. But, to truly appreciate the good we first must free ourselves from the prisons of our own minds and the dogma society ingrains in us. Our empathy needs to extend toward every corner of the earth, to every living thing..."

Heartfelt words from Abby Martin. And, I hear she is heading for Gaza, lol, so we'll be hearing more from her as she focuses more on investigative journalism and digging deeper into important issues.

http://www.mediaroots.org/

[-] 5 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

So Abby Martin is Gaza bound, is she? That should make for interesting reporting and I also heard that the street artist Banksy has just been there too. I suppose that this is an appropriate time and place to link to this very recent piece by Gideon Levy in Ha'aretz and I will copy the whole short article, as being a ''premium'' link - it may not be available for long or without charge...

"Israel is Galloping to the Next War in Gaza'' - http://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-1.644219

Israel is heading to the next violent eruption with the Palestinians as though it is some sort of natural disaster that can't be avoided.

The next war will break out in the summer. Israel will give it another childish name and it will take place in Gaza. There’s already a plan to evacuate the communities along the Gaza Strip border.

Israel knows this war will break out, it also knows why – and it’s galloping toward it blindfolded, as though it were a cyclic ritual, a periodical ceremony or a natural disaster that cannot be avoided. Here and there one even perceives enthusiasm.

It doesn’t matter who the prime minister is and who the defense minister is – there’s no difference between the candidates as far as Gaza is concerned. Isaac Herzog and Amos Yadlin are saying nothing of course, and Tzipi Livni is boasting that thanks to her no port was opened in Gaza. The rest of the Israelis aren’t interested in Gaza’s fate either and soon it will be forced to remind them again of its disaster in the only way left to it, the rockets.

Gaza’s disaster is dreadful. No mention of it is made in the Israeli discourse and certainly not in the most dumbed down, hollow election campaign there’s ever been here. It’s hard to believe, but Israelis have invented a parallel reality, cut off from the real one, a callous, unfeeling, denying reality, while all this adversity, most of it of their own making, is taking place a short distance from their homes. Babies are freezing to death under the debris of their homes, youths risk their lives and cross the border fence just to get a food portion in an Israeli lock up. Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone care? Does anyone understand that this is leading to the next war?

Salma lived only 40 days, like the eternity of a butterfly. She was a baby from Beit Hanoun on the northeast of the Gaza Strip, who died last month of hypothermia, after her tiny body froze in the wind and rain that penetrated into the plywood-and-plastic hut she has been living in with her family, since their house was bombed.

“She was frozen like ice cream,” her mother said of the last night of her infant’s life. UNWRA Spokesman Chris Gunness wrote about Salma last in week in the British newspaper the Guardian. Mirwat, her mother, told him that when she was born she weighed 3.1 kilograms. Her three–year– old sister, Ma’ez, is hospitalized due to frostbite.

Ibrahim Awarda, 15, who lost his father in an Israeli bombardment in 2002, was more fortunate. He decided to cross the fence between Gaza and Israel. “I knew I’d be arrested,” he told the New York Times reporter in Gaza last week. “I told myself, maybe I’ll find a better life. They gave me good food and then threw me back.”

Ibrahim was held for about a month in two prisons in Israel before being tossed back to the destruction, squalor, hunger and death. Three hundred Gazans drowned in the sea last September, in a desperate attempt to leave the prison Strip. Eighty-four Gazans were arrested by the Israel Defense Forces in the last six months after trying to enter Israel, most of them just to flee from the hell they live in. Nine more were arrested this month.

Atiya al-Navhin, 15, also tried to enter Israel in November, just to escape his fate. He was shot by IDF soldiers, treated in two Israeli hospitals and returned to Gaza in January. Now he’s lying paralyzed and unable to speak in his home.

Some 150,000 homeless people live in Gaza and about 10,000 refugees in UNRWA shelters. The organization’s budget was spent after the world totally ignored its commitment to contribute $5.4 billion to rebuild Gaza. The commitment to negotiate lifting the blockade on Gaza – the only way to avoid the next war and the one after it – has also been broken. Nobody talks about it. It’s not interesting. There was a war, Israelis and Palestinians were killed in it for nothing, let’s move on to the next war.

Israel will again pretend to be surprised and offended – the cruel Arabs are attacking it with rockets again, for no reason.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/10/gaza-kites-japan-tsunami_n_6838752.html?utm_hp_ref=world

From the vox.com article: "Yuval Diskin, the chief of Israel's internal security agency the Shin Bet from 2005 to 2011, has posted a withering criticism of the Israeli government and its handling of the recent violence on his public Facebook page. He squarely blames Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government for the recent crisis, which began with the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli students in the West Bank and has spiraled into much wider violence, including the murder of a 16-year-old Palestinian by Israeli extremists."

May Israel, one day, see the error of it's ways and end the apartheid. The world is watching.

That article makes me think of how an education can be wasted. What a freaking moron that Joshua Muravchik is. Good grief.

And, regarding nuclear weapons among nations that live very close to one another. Think about it. Is there really any risk at all or does their propinquity prevent the likelihood of nuclear weapons ever being used? And, who feels safe with Israelis having nuclear weapons? What is so special about them?

Have you ever thought that you may suffer from an inflated ego? That you think yourself so important that it matters not how many suffer or perished in the effort to get your message out? How many GOP victories will it take before America has paid enough for your pride?

[-] 4 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

So is your "ego" up for discussion too? After all lol, we all have one, right? It seems that anyone who does not pander to your Democratic Party obsessions or holds strong opinions or has a revolutionary analysis or who just simply disagrees with you, has an ''ego'' problem in your opinion! Just how many Democratic Presidents will it take for you to realise that they serve The1% and Bankers, Corporations, Oligarchs and War Machine before they serve The 99%? OWS' rise reflected the truth of that to us all.

You are the one willing to hand the nation over to W Bush and his brother Jeb in order to make your point, you feel your point is more important than keeping the GOP from power. Your ego and others like you are killing the nation and the planet. It is you that attack consistantly any that object to your mission to elect the GOP to every office in America.

Oh and congrats on your recent win defeating them evill Dems, I will keep you posted on how your boys the GOP are doing as long as the site stays up.

You serve the GOP.

How many Bushes will it take till you stop whining like a child and decide to do something?

[-] 4 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

The GOP are Conservative AND Corporatist scum... who are beyond the pale and beyond any possible redemption. You should also be aware of the glaring and ever widening disconnect between The Official Democratic Party Politicians and their electoral base and the American 99% who have been and indeed still are being - continuously sold out. To affect not to understand this - is not good for democracy really.

This is OWS and so in brief: Glass Steagall was repealed and NAFTA signed by Bill Clinton and, TPP and TTIP and no WallStreet prosecutions happened on Barack Obama's watch. When are you going to figure out that they are co-opted, corrupted and controlled by bankers and corporations? To be in total denial of that 'fact' is not 'fun' and it is actually very shocking and counter-productive - to say the least!

Our exchanges on your post here - http://occupywallst.org/forum/at-minute-38-this-film-explains-rich-people-are-ri/ explains our respective positions better for the record. You will not be getting away with spouting the same old rancid shit day after day after day here.

Readers will judge for themselves what is what; who is who and who is pro-OWS-Fundamentals and who is blindly, tribally and uncritically... pro-Democratic Party.

You hate the Dems you post to ensure their defeat and you won a great victory in 2014 when the turnout was the lowest in 70 years and the GOP won their biggest margin in 87 years. I do believe you actually disagree with what the GOP do but you are so stupid you help to elect them anyway because you are a political hack wishing only to build your Green Party at any cost.

So sorry (not) - but you don't get off that easily. If it was for a fact a duopoly = no difference between the two. There would be no social security - there would be no USPS - there would be no talk about equal pay for women - there would be no-one standing in the way of the keystone expansion - there would be no FDA - there would be no FCC - there would be no EPA - there would be no SEC - there would be no dissent on deporting all illegal immigrants - there would be no objection to putting American troops on the ground in IRAN OR back into IRAQ or into Libya or into Syria - there would be no opposition to opening the Atlantic to drilling - THERE WOULD BE NO OPPOSITION TO THE WEALTHY AND THE CORP(SE)ORATIONS WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!

[-] 3 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

I don't think that you fully understand the D word that you used above. It does not have to be that they are both the same... just that there is ONLY 'both'. You should read that Glenn Greenwald salon.com link and try to see that the Democratic Party politicians are much more close and beholden to Bankers, Corporations and Wall Street money-men then they are to the99% now. Those who are more exceptional Democrat Politicians (like Elizabeth Warren possibly) prove that rule and FDR is now a distant memory.

[-] -1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Yes, well done: pat; Pat; PAT! Now go use it on a Democratic Party site or go find Repugnants to throw that link at! + http://occupywallst.org/forum/at-minute-38-this-film-explains-rich-people-are-ri/#comment-1062321 I'm happy BS appeals to you so much that you ditched Hillary for him. Now work it hard in AZ!

It is sad to see someone so misguided as yourself, if it wasn't for the harm you do I would feel sorry for you. At least you got your huge win from 2014 to cheer you up even if TPP sends all the jobs overseas you can know you WON and kicked those evil Dems from office.

See how easy it is? The Gore administration shipped all the factory jobs out, the Bush admin puts us into perpetual war, and because it was all just oh so long ago, we now move right back to the blame game.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

turbo still remembering the glory days of 2000 when you teamed up with Nader to elect W Bush? Everyone should remember that one. Tell the truth you supported the Bush tax cut of 2001 didn't you?

More mendacity from you so run along there and send this to Bernie but don't bother reading it yourself, you won't get it! http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/31662-how-ecuador-transitioned-from-20th-century-neoliberalism-to-21st-century-socialism Your lack of vision for the future generations is now actually very alarming indeed! Happy Independence Day and go meditate maybe, on what that will mean in the future. That article btw, has more to do with your 'Forum-Post' - than you'll ever really understand. Maybe try it!

EDIT: Re.below that fact that u r so desper8 to see ''difference'' between Patrician WASPs is the ''hoot''!

[-] 2 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

yeah somebody that can't see a difference in Al Gore and W Bush is talking about vision, what a hoot, you can't see the harm you do, even when TPP passes with your guys in charge, I know math is hard and you're not very smart
