If you want better candidates start at your local party meetings.

We only vote for idiots because our choices are limited ..... big time. The D & R delegates assure all other choices are muted at best. They only give us choices that they allow us to have.

“What better way to enslave a man than to give him the vote and tell him he’s free.” -Albert Camus

Can't start at the top. Must do it from the bottom up. It will trickle up.

[-] 4 points by SparkyJP (1646) from Westminster, MD 11 years ago

I agree. The top has a monopoly on the system, and will attempt to lock out All other contenders. It HAS TO come from the bottom. Cheers

JP's, judges, city council, school board. When they are doing something you don't like show up at a meeting and ask to speak. So few people do this that it is remarkably affective.

In a democracy, that may be effective; but in a kleptocracy, MONEY talks & BS walks. I certainly don't have the money that will influence policy. When ruled by thieves, money is the ONLY leverage that can effect change.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleptocracy

Kleptocracy, alternatively cleptocracy or kleptarchy, (from Greek: κλέπτης - kleptēs, "thief"[1] and κράτος - kratos, "power, rule",[2] hence "rule by thieves") is a form of political and government corruption where the government exists to increase the personal wealth and political power of its officials and the ruling class at the expense of the wider population, often without pretense of honest service. This type of government corruption is often achieved by the embezzlement of state funds.

Incumbents have a 90% success rate in most areas, some as high as 98%. Against corporate financing we are fighting a losing uphill battle. It's like trying to climb a steep icy hill in bowling shoes. Even local school boards can be next to impossible to get into for some candidates. Over the last 10 years the Green Party ran 140 candidates for local governance in Illinois. All of them lost. Pretending to be a Democrat won't guarantee you a spot either because you are then competing within the party with individuals that have corporate financing (yes, even at the local level). I'm all for doing whatever we can to build from the bottom up, but let's not overestimate that difficulty and underestimate the effect of presidential runs, which have had the most success historically.

How about the Obimination - he wasn't even on the radar screen and then boom - there he was - all full of charm and charisma

I guess it's a reflection on how people are limited to their thinking process when it comes to understanding what's going on with regard to politics vs their unlimited knowledge when it comes to voting for someone with charm, charisma and bull shit. .

There really is no way to know if a candidate is lying when they campaign. You can only go by what they say, and if they win and turn out to be a despot; then you have tyranny for the next 4 yrs with no recourse except impeachment. The system is broken and corrupt at it's core.

That is the key change that needs to be implemented. Follow the oath of office to serve the people faithfully or get your ass to the unemployment office.

[-] 2 points by SparkyJP (1646) from Westminster, MD 11 years ago

Yeah, but under our current system, who would implement it? Congress is corporate owned. That's why we need a mechanism for the people to intercede in real time with real power ( even if it's just veto power ); as opposed to waiting 4 yrs, for the next liar to be elected and start the cycle all over again.

Yes - this is so very true. Until we get things straightened out and running the way they should be - everything will be an effort - a major effort. Wisconsin was a great happening and it went sour for two possibly three reasons.

1) corpoRAT money buying workers to flood Wisconsin with crap.

2) Unions that may well have been out of bounds - YES - FUCKIN A - Unions can be off base. Why do you think union members went against union direction.

3) The people are out of the information loop - the real information.

We need to do a better job of education and outreach - we also need to possibly kick some union leadership butt.

We have to pull together or we will not succeed. That means being honest as to our own failings.

No one is perfect - it does not mean we stop trying to be better.

We have a lot of bad habits to break.

Lets do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[-] 2 points by SparkyJP (1646) from Westminster, MD 11 years ago

Another possibility:

4) The vote was rigged and a vote stealing software was installed in the voting machines.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

While that is a possibility of what "may" have happened in Wisconsin - the vote really should never have been close. There are real issues to be addressed there. The main thing - they - should do is keep up on the outreach and education - they are not totally screwed as they lost the repug majority.

The union needs to reach out to the public and make amends.

[-] 4 points by HempTwister (667) from Little Rock, AR 11 years ago

It is the "Never vote for someone smarter than yourself" rule. 2010 was a great victory for these people.

[-] 0 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

2012 will be an even bigger year. In 08 the Dems swept in. Total failure. In 2010, it was reverse tide. Again, total failure.

In 2012 its going to be very low turnout. Followed by an even bigger failure.

The entire thing is falling apart, due to various problems. The fact the people are not rallying together to create NEW options shows me that the establishment is going to continue to control the population through this next Depression.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Sounds a lot like Florida...........:)

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Yes it does. And most of the other 49 states as well.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Really? Only 49?

Care to provide some details about malfeasance in Florida?

It is, after all, one of the worst.

Or are you still busy pretending to be nonpartisan?

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You only assume its one of the worse since we now have Rick Scott in there. He's a disaster. The entire gov here has been a disaster since I moved here in 06. Same for NY. What were your views of Charlie Christ?

If you cant tell I think DC and both parties are compeltely busted and useless, Im not sure what you have been reading.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I knew you couldn't do it.

Not a single detail. Just your usual generic response.

They are all the same......EXCEPT when they are not.

Which is far more often than you admit.

Now there's some truth even you should be able to dig into, but you won't.

I wonder why that is?

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Dude, Ive listed all of Scott's issues, and as I have already previsouly stated, Ive even gone and protested at some of em. I was physically engaged against it.

This is OWS. Remove money from politics, end the banking cartel.

You are obviously looking to pick a fight. Go do it with someone else.

[-] 3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I'm afraid you didn't do that.

You bitched at me for bring up some Scott's malfeasance.

You even refused to follow the link I provided on Gov. Scott.

I'm not picking a fight, just asking you for a little bit of truth.

So far? Nada.

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Go join an establishment campaign and leave me alone shooz, Im not debating the same stuff over and over, how freakin dense are you. Im sorry you have forgotten me doing that, Im not suprised though.

And meanwhile in Detroit you still dont do a damn thing. So whats your point?

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Because you are lying and you never did that.

You never really said anything other than "fuck Scott".

That was the extent of it.

Not one single detail about what he actually does.

So why is it you continue to [pick fights with those that you consider asses.

That's literally everyone who doesn't agree with your lame assessments.

Plus you generic BS about how they are all the same.

You do realize that includes libertarians? Perhaps even more so than the others.

Nope, they are just your chosen co-opters.

[-] -2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Libertarians are just as guilty of the cultural bankruptcy of this country as everyone else.

Im not worried about a libertarian coopt, or a socialist workers, or socialist party, or green party, or justice party (assuming they can get it off the ground), etc.

There are two coroporate beasts whose main goal is to control the vast majority of all of our choices.

Top post on what I think is wrong with Ricj Scott coming soon, hopefully you will finally shut the fuck up after it, but I doubt it.

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Your most confused post yet.

Perhaps it is you that should as you say, shut the FUCK up.

Or at least get an education.

[-] 3 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

You got his number!

[-] -3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Go vote for more war, sell out.

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) 11 years ago

First, you must be intelligent enough to recognize an idiot when you see one. Considering the average IQ is in the low 90s and retarded is 72, it's not hard to see what we are up against. Add to that the people (intelligent or not) that have been raised and live by the moral of "Might is Right" and you have willfully enslaved slugs that live to work and watch TV.

Charlie Rangle won. Nuff said.
