Forum Post: If there is any violence during the RNC/DNC Conventions and the media blames Occupy...

We have no one else to blame but ourselves.

We know the national media is shady as hell. That is a given. But we also know that there are a small minority of Occupy that are non violent abolish government Anarchists and violent abolish government Anarchists that insert themselves into the movement. Yet we hardly ever see these supposedly non violent Anarchists visibly call out and separate themselves from the Black Bloc types.

And because of this the movement as a whole has successfully been painted in they way our enemies(corporations, wallstreet, etc) want the public to see us as.

Until we get our shit together and have a core message and a solid plan our enemies will continue to be able to define us. So again, if any violence breaks out and we are unfairly blamed we could have done something about this sooner. But we didn't.

We absolutely could use more of that ZenDog. That story lets me know there is hope for this movement yet. But we have to start solving our issues and coming to a conclusion of what we want to be.

I also agree that as of now we are nowhere near as organized to pull what you suggested off. And even if we did there would probably be the Black Bloc types to show up and screw it all up...

Kudos to them.

Do you recall which city that was ZD?

They'll blame Occupy or more likely, the Ron Paul people. It's all a media manipulation.

But that is the thing, we all knew the media was crooked from the get go. So why didn't we address the problems in Occupy so we would be better to suited to fight the misinformation? The Black Bloc people and the ones that support them have been playing right into the narrative of our enemies.

Please tell our folks at Occupy Raleigh (near Charlotte) who are headed to the DNC. Come to http://forum.occupyraleigh.net/

My own opinion is that it's no use trying to behave well. The authorities will do and say whatever they want. Did you ever here about a dude named Eugene Debs, just about the greatest occupier ever, led a peaceful struggle for socialism by the democratic rules? But when he decided to object to a plan called WWI where millions of workers charge directly into machine gun fire, the bosses threw away the rules, jailed Debs and smashed his movement.

Us "not behaving well" only hurts us. We need to fix our flaws and figure out what we truly want this movement to be and what we want to achieve. And on top we know the media is going to pay attention to the sensationalism that the extremist in the movement creates and not the substance of the movement as a whole. Over time that has created a negative narrative for Occupy. We in the movement should of been dealing with this problem a long time ago.

If violence erupts at the conventions, the politicians have no one to blame but themselves. The mass of American voters will believe whatever they're told to believe; just as they'll vote in November for the same parties and system that have mired the US into the same old economics of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

You really think the politicians will blame themselves? lol not a chance. I'm not saying that Occupy will be to blame. But what I am saying is because of the what has happened to this movement and how we've allowed ourselves to play into the hands of our enemies by not challenging the extremists.

Even if every other thing you said is true, that fact is that many people will believe it is our fault because of the perception we've allowed others to paint for us.

The politicians won't blame themselves or their masters; neither will the media. They will blame the anarchists. The stage has already been set.

Merely waving banners, peacefully refusing to move, and chanting protest songs will accomplish just that.

Exactly, they'll blame Black Block or whatever. If they really have their mind set, they'll agent provocateur it.

I would expect to see black bloc-type actions carried out by unnamed third parties.

if there is violence by ows people its their fault. THEIR fault , not the republicans. i say republicans because the democrats ( pelosi and obama are on record)back ows and would love violence.

Partisans of either party should not foul the forum with their spin, half-truths, and outright lies.

[-] 3 points by ogoj11 (263) 12 years ago

You are just plain wrong. Obama called out the cops and had our people in Occupy DC arrested, attacked, and dispersed.

Partisan anti Obama?
