Forum Post: Humana, dumbing down America even further with their latest ad.

Posted 9 years ago on Aug. 24, 2014, 9:26 a.m. EST by StillModestCapitalist (343)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Yet another calculated piece of mass marketing crap. The ad makes Humana out to be part of the solution but does so by telling you precisely NOTHING. This ad is not designed to inform anyone of anything or solve any problem. It's not even designed to get the ball rolling. It is simply designed to sell product.

Humana. Part of the problem. Keeping America STUPID.

StillMod,I must say I share your hatred and disgust with regard to the Advertising and PR industries.Advertising and PR soak up vast amounts of time, money and effort.Something upwards of 50 billion dollars annually is wasted on this foolish, annoying and nonproductive industry. Not only that, advertising is one of the most toxic, noxious, objectionable forms of pollution-it pollutes our minds, constantly promotes narcissism, envy, venality and conformity. The Ad and PR industries are the leading edge of systematic destruction of creative debate, the sense of community, and dynamic cultural expression of any and all all kinds.I would be in favor of massive and comprehensive restrictions on commercial advertising. You are the only other person who has ever had much of anything to say about it.I agree with your view that it is a completely bogus and decrepit waste of money, brains and time.

Agree...Stepford Corporations Pottersville Mentality is infecting every town USA too...walking on the beach today I encountered radio station advertisers blasting pop music disrupting peace of nature and contests to promo themselves on public land and I wanted to shout shouldn't you be at the mall? It served to make me hate these companies and vow to never ever turn on my car radio again....my taxes pay to upkeep the beach ...people come to nature to get away from this stuff and yet there they are, private companies, shoving products in our faces for their own profit...at our expense..a prelude to more and more vendors I imagine since our mayor is a sell out suckhole corporate bootlick who believes companies are our finest citizens and so does our governor: they learned that by watching our president...

There comes a point when companies need to stop spending billions on advertising and invading our lives and government when all they really need to do is pay employees well enough that they can shop...advertising dollars merely inflate corporate egos...I can honestly say I never buying anything because of an ad...I typically seek what I'm drawn to ( which I have shaped around my scrutiny of opportunistic monopolistic company overlords and I think so aren't most Americans ..coming around to realize anything good for corporations is bad for the rest of society)...ads have no power to sway me...you know what gets me and Americans to shop? Having enough spare money to do so...when housing and utilities and monopolies like internet companies take so much and we are paid so poorly with no job stability since almost everything is getting outsourced...we tend to become very frugal....employees are your consumer stupid!!!! No matter how much you advertise...you can't get blood from a tapped out stone ...dumbasses...collectively if you would all pay your employees more, you'd find out you don't need to advertise as much! You should invest more wisely...instead of investing in Rupert Murdoch or whatever other monopoly media outlet you are feeding...try investing in something that will pay you back...people. Bunch of Suckers I know what Harvard business school teaches wonder how much someone is paying them to perpetuate the advertise in abundance / squeeze employee lie. The apparent thing is is not results they are after it is the gigantic advertising tax write off ...yes we all expend for your expense and then we are forced to endure the indignity of your flaunting it in our faces.

Ads-one of the more evil and depressing derivatives of the fucking capitalist imperative. The shilling and hucksterism is ubiquitous and there are times when I feel like I will blow a head gasket if I have to endure 1 more second of desperate, moronic lunacy from commercialism.I hate it;it's dirty and disgusting in the extreme.

[-] 2 points by elf3 (4203) 9 years ago

It has all become so invasive...we are all being stalked and tracked and our data is being stored...its reached a level of insanity. Someone is making huge profits advising companies to do this and its like the answer is so obvious ...invest in people instead of Rupert Murdoch ...do good so people stop fearing you and don't just say you believe in good because its about as see through as a light bulb on a clear sunny day that no you just want to fuck us out of our money and if we won't give it you go to our government and force it out of us through them...it is so vile and ridiculous and obvious. Pay you employees more...cut back on advertising data stalking budgets...do something that has a clear cut solution. Be a good company, do good things, treat consumers and employees well. Explain to your shareholders why dumping billions down the media mogul drain is just a big myth....then go take your big ad write off and suck it...we know the reality another private gain on public expense.

The only solution is world Revolution.I really don't know how much longer I can endure the constant ads which are trying to force me to lease a Ford a Ford Focus without going completely berserk and running dangerously amok.Vincit Qui Patitur.

Ironically, some people say that Google is doing exactly what you describe. They work in tandem with the NSA to build profiles of everyone, but then they do good by providing essentially free products and spending on projects like self driving cars that don't have a clear ROI.

Google is one of the richest companies, and is now actively supported by occupy's main voice, jart.

They are shady industries to say the least. There have been so many examples to prove that sappy commercials often hide calculated intentions. Several involving companies later convicted of criminal activity. Still, they have their desired effect on the masses. It is very frustrating. Not that I have anything against legitimate and honest advertising. But that simple and moral standard has been the exception to the rule for a very long time.

[-] 1 points by elf3 (4203) 9 years ago

Advertising is perhaps the largest waste of money ever produced...not surprising it is also a tax write off.

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

D"oh! As soon as you give these hucksters an inch, they take a mile. One of the Worst Things In the World is the relentless bombardment of advertising of prescription medications. They are absolutely far and away the most manipulative, nauseating and uninformative examples of modern advertising.I hope you would agree that advertising for prescription medications and medical devices should be limited to print layouts in medical journals and direct marketing campaigns thru junk mail to doctors, clinics and hospitals.Lots of doctors dislike the situation these ads are creating in clinical situations, and have complained about it.

[-] 2 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

LOL-I once heard of a bank in Missouri that was giving away free guns to people for opening a new checking account. They weren't stopped by the authorities from doing this. They stopped the promotion because of bad publicity.I guess hospitals could promote business with expectant mothers by issuing a gun to each child born in their hospital. Not illegal in some states, apparently.

[-] 1 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

Mexico won't allow it

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

How must Mexicans feel about the avalanche of guns and death that rolls from our country to theirs in such an evidently unstoppable fashion? It is so horrible it hardly even bears thinking about.

[-] 0 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

I agree 100%. Direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs should be illegal. It should also be illegal for celebrities to plug prescription drugs with no mention whatsoever of the potential side-effects. Right Kelly Ripa, Carson Daily, Hank Azeria, and damn near every other celebrity?

Ch'Ching!

Phil Mickelson.Talk about a hero with clay feet.I used to so love watching Phil play golf on tv.I thought he was a zen master.Until he appeared with a large and tasteless BARCLAY'S logo on his shirt. They are an Archnemesis of Humankind. Then a fucking gross pharma ad campaign. And insider trading. He is a phony and a bogus and decrepit douchebag, not a role model for young people,as the ads seem to want us to believe.Gag me with the 9 iron.Hey-Phil-you broke my heart,so fuck you!

I like the fact that pharmaceutical commercials have to tell the prospective customer just how deadly the drug can be - including making what you are already experiencing much worse than it already is.

Really - some drugs are so bad that half way through a disclaimer I fully expect that the commercial should stop with the narrator saying " OH WHY BOTHER - Never Mind " - then to see that the drug was pulled out of the market.

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

Agreed. Some of the side effects that they kind of mention are so horrific it's actually hilarious. You never cease to amaze me DK-you are a shrewd character indeed to have noticed that I actually have no sense of humor, and must perforce use my overdeveloped sense of the absurd to get my lulz."If you experience an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek medical attention right away!" LOLLOLLOLLOL!

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

"If you experience an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek medical attention right away!"

lol - I know - right? And they leave you wondering - just what exactly is the emergency room prepared to do for me in this ummm condition? Do I want to know? Damn right I wanna know! Don't leave me hanging advertisement. ( oooo poor choice of words )

"If your breasts begin making milk, consult your physician immediately."

Looking for a career in the medical industry? Has a drug left you lactating with no relief in sight? You may want to consider becoming a wet nurse.....

"If your preteen or teen aged son begins to develop breasts, discontinue the medication and and consult your physician right away!."

You could receive significant compensation - call the attorneys of choice today - don't wait - call now.

Again you are correct. The profiteering scumbags converge from above, below, and all sides. They also have the ability to appear out of nowhere because they are Demons.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

It's like living in a shark tank when someone pours in a bucket of chum - feeding frenzy. This world is getting so completely insane.

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

Agreed.Relentless, mindless insanity. All of these more and more desperate pitches aimed at customers who can't afford to spend money anymore. You could feel sorry for all these car dealers and furniture merchants who used to be so rich but the did it to themselves,The Bastards.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Now they gotta find and exploit successful marketing to the minimum wage worker. ( good luck - Hey? - considering that minimum wage workers need aid from the government to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table )

[-] 1 points by trashyharry (3084) from Waterville, NY 9 years ago

We are collateral damage when capitalism manages to completely fuck itself and explode like a giant rotten pumpkin stuffed with high explosives hitting a mountain of dynamite.Wait and see what happens when the morons at the Fed raise interest rates-scheduled for the Ides of March,2015.Unless they don't have the guts to go through with it...again.

[-] 1 points by elf3 (4203) 9 years ago

Yes but the aid gives them money to spend and there are the profiteers salavating...grocery stores in high welfare areas are charging like ten bucks for a jar of peanut butter now. They know people without cars are unlikely to go elsewhere and they are paying with ebt...so they won't shout about it either. Ads are a tax write off I have to point this out.

[-] 0 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 9 years ago

You mean, don't leave me pointing. lol

[-] 1 points by elf3 (4203) 9 years ago

Well also the money perpetuating the ads feeding the media outlets...the tax write offs to advertise...the insurance mandate...forcing us to not only buy it but give them free pitches while raising our expenditures...the pillaging astounds...and as a lady why am I paying for your 4 hour erection when I can't even get coverage for basic female care or birth control...the companies obviously want us to reproduce effectively ...more consumer off spring...maybe we should start sterilizing ceos by mandate

[-] 0 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

What really infuriates me about the 'ED' meds is that none of them were designed to address a medical condition to begin with. Or if so, that market represents just a tiny fraction of demand. No. These pigs had one goal in mind from day one.

To set a new standard. Now, every man in America has to pop a pill for a 4 hour erection or compete with those who do.

Ch'Ching!

[-] -2 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 9 years ago

Most women I know enjoy a man with a long lasting erection. Especially when the member is large. Blood needs to be redirected from the head above to the head below. The blood reduction in the brain causes the man to enter a primitive neanderthal-like state. His words become grunts. Women love grunters. A 4 hour erection is one long gruntathon.

What is your opinion on size? Does it matter? Some women claim stiffness is the most important factor. Others believe the speed of edification is key.

Humana doesnt need to worry about selling to customers, the customers are now mandated to go to them or be punished via the state.

[-] 2 points by StillModestCapitalist (343) 9 years ago

I am about as opposed to the government mandate as anyone on this planet. I flat-out refuse to purchase health insurance. I may have no choice but to pay a fine at some point but I will NEVER purchase health insurance. I see it as part of the problem.

Health care. 17% of our GDP and still rising. Say that reminds me.
