Forum Post: Every Wisconsinite Must Vote

Posted 11 years ago on May 30, 2012, 3:29 a.m. EST by PR1 (120)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Everyone in Wisconsin who believes in American democracy and a future for average Amercans must vote in the recall election! The re-election of Walker would be a heavy blow to the social justice movement and a huge propaganda victory for the 1%!

The fact that the DNC chose not to back Barrett also says everything positive about Barrett and the real threat he represents to the establishment. So this is also a good time to send a message to the sold-out arm of the Democratic Party. Absolutely nobody in Wisconsin has an excuse to sit this one out!

If you are an Independent Wisconsinite this would be a great time to deal a blow to both the 1% and to the pro-establishment, sold-out element of the Democratic Party!

Daily Kos - Keep fighting.

Dan, our best bet to beat Scott Walker next week is high voter turnout, and in cities like Madison, LaCrosse and Milwaukee, turnout is indeed huge.

http://kos.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=B7kCEJDeJ9iastwMrm0jeKw6KjJoSt2J

Supporters of Scott Walker are responding with tactics that are clogging up phone lines at Tom Barrett's campaign headquarters:

http://kos.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Nte1fU5%2Bj0DmjwtRBhweJaw6KjJoSt2J

The campaign headquarters of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was inundated Tuesday with outraged callers who received an anonymous text message accusing Barrett of being a "union puppet."

The message, which came from WI@obamasaliar.com, said this:

"Tom Barrett is a Union Puppet who will give Union Thugs everything they want. Call & ask why 414.271.8050."

That is the phone number for the main campaign office for Barrett, a Democrat running against Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election. For a short period Tuesday afternoon, the Barrett campaign number appeared to be out of service from the flood of calls.

It's sadly typical that Republicans are trying to mess with Democratic efforts to get out the vote, but it also shows they know high turnout means trouble for Scott Walker.

Keep fighting, Chris Bowers Campaign Director, Daily Kos

OWS should not be offering particular solutions to the problems it is protesting. Else, the protest fragments and solidarity is lost. It's easy to gather socialists, capitalists, communists, anarchists, etc... together to fight against the current problems in US, but it is impossible for them to agree on a solution because they all have different ideologies.

Protest, but don't provide solutions. Use other groups than OWS to do that.

http://occupywallst.org/forum/on-ows-advantages-dis-advantages-misconceptions-an/

It makes little sense to provide free adverts for the current government (Obama), when OWS protesters fight against this current government (Obama) on the field every day!

[-] 5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

OWS is not offering-up support for any party or politician. It is pointing out issues to the people and the people are making their own plans.

I am a person = one of the people.

I am not telling anyone that OWS or Occupy or 99% support these things.

I am pointing out what I support.

Support for the people not for profit.

Common cause issues for unity against the status-quo greedy corrupt criminals.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Vote out the anti-people politicians as fast as we are able. Keep up the pressure for change. unite in common cause. Don't opt-out but get organized to retake our Democracy.

Here are good pressure points.

To identify a troll - look at issues that benefit all of society - and see them standing in the way.

To identify a troll look at issues that benefit special interest groups - quite often to the detriment of society/humanity/world - and see them cheering on the issue for the special interest.

[-] -2 points by allen (12) 11 years ago

I just look for people who call others trolls when they have a different opinion. That stifles speech. For this reason, I consider you one of the biggest trolls on this forum. Every time someone has an opinion other than yours, you consider him a troll. Not very inclusive.

[-] 3 points by PR1 (120) 11 years ago

Endlessly switching usernames to hide the incredible unpopularity of your comments is an effort to pervert free-speech, and anyone who does it and still whines all the time about their incredible purity and moral stance is just full of shit. Let your arguments stand or fall like everyone else's, and then maybe you could spout this blather and we won't just laugh at you. But I doubt it.

[-] -2 points by allen (12) 11 years ago

Who's switching usernames young man? Seems to me PR1 is quite new. Diid you get banned perhaps?

He approached me with what seemed like a spark to learn something, but after a couple simplistic exchanges, he went totally flaccid with cluelessness and had to flee. I find a lot of that. Rose colored bubblehead rebels without a fucking clue! Is this the product of "No Child Left Behind"?? Or just RW bible camp troll graduates? Say that a couple times, kinda has a nice feel. He he..,

[-] 4 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

(No reply button, below) He's here because he believes in OWS. There's other non-political issues at stake. You gotta remember, this forum wasn't supposed to turn into partisan politics. In fact, technically, it wasn't supposed to talk about politics at all. It was originally conceived as a place to coordinate protests and actions, and a place for Occupiers to connect. In jart's words, from her "Watch me test this thing" post a few months ago, responding to a poster:

[-] 1 by jart (808) from Brooklyn, NY 4 months ago

"If you didn't create for debate and discussion, was it your intention (if you don't mind me asking) that the site be used more for action / planning of actions / spreading real news etc.?"

Bingo! We also had the same intention when we started /r/occupywallstreet but watched it quickly turn into a place where people talk about politics rather than actually working to make the event happen. That's just how reddit is, people like to debate. So I figured rather than fighting that tendency, letting reddit be the D&D board and whipping up a quick and dirty forum (based on the article commenting system I'd already written) that would be specifically for organizers and to build upon the map system which was already helping radicals get in touch with others in their local area.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Nah, he just gets emotional when people talk about playing the political 'game.'

[-] 1 points by JIFFYSQUID92 (-994) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Then what is he doing here!!!????!!!

The Wisconsin "Partisan Political" imbroglio was the inspiration for OWS!!!

1% VS 99% Class War is a "Partisan Political" battle!!!???!!!

What is the disconnect???

"An my wife and I fixed up tater stew---We poured the kids full of it, Mighty thin stew, though, You could read a magazine right through it. Always have figured, that if it had been just a little bit thinner, some of these here politicians could have seen through it." Woodie Guthrie

Guthrie was a powerful force for what he believed to be right and just, and he paid a price for it. He said, "I too [often] choose between what I thought was the truth, and a good paycheck, and that's why I go around so truthfully broke, I reckon."

Woody was the man!!!

[-] 3 points by Odin (583) 11 years ago

You have to respect anyone who stands up for what he believes is morally right especially when they suffer the consequences for having done so. Thanks for the song.

[-] 0 points by Odin (583) 11 years ago

Yes we need more Woodie Guthries in the world. I remember seeing Tommie Guthrie in Mammouth Mtn, CA close to 40 years ago with a group of people who picked me up hitch-hiking on my way to SF, and then Australia.

Unfortunately our obvious shared respect for Guthrie may be the last thing that we agree on, as I do not believe our energies in this movement should be diverted to partisan politics. But I can put that battle off with you until another day, and enjoy what we do agree on today.

Nice. I love WG. When I lived in Aspen in the '70s, I used to see his son, Arlo, play at local bars.

To show how things have turned around on us, "This Land is Your Land" is a punch line.

"Idiocracy" is more than a movie.

THINK! Governor Walker has taken a courageous stand against the SPECIAL INTERESTS and in support of the people of Wisconsin, the 99%. The 99% should support Walker 100%.

[-] 1 points by tr289 (916) from Chicago, IL 11 years ago

Walker will win the recall election. Wisconsin is ripe with conservative voter fraud. So much so the current crop of right wing terrorists wouldn't even be in office if Wisconsin ever addressed the rampant voter fraud.

Google Kathy Nicholas Wisconsin... She is just the most known because she was already caught committing voter fraud.

What a see through liar you are.

I am saying a prayer for your soul right now, I truly am. Do you really think this life is the end of the journey of the soul? Oh no, contrair my friend, this life is just the begining of your journey.

Ha, ha, ha, ha.

You must go on until you face that thing in the mirror and it is black, but that has nothing to do with the color of your skin, Mr. Smith. So go on your twisted way. You will, perhaps someday find the light, but I wouldn't want to walk that journey with you.

[-] -1 points by tupacsugar (-136) 11 years ago

Sounds like a racist that is trying to prove he has found religion. I've dealt with shallow haters and race baiters like you many times.

Hating someone because of the color of their skin is so 1950's and I can't believe how many of you progressives are really just racist's and hater's at heart. All your rhetoric is just ear candy for your Drones but the truth is you're racist's deep down. Keep praying, ask forgiveness for yourself and ask God to grant you the strength to become a better person. All things are possible in God.

This one thinks the Koch Brother Birchers are the People! And Citizen$ United $ecret fund$ are democracy!

And we all heard how Scotty boy heels to his Koch Brother masters. So fucking sick!

Just think of Unions as Corporations and Chambers of Commerce, except Unions are organizations that protect the interests of hard working Americans against greed-addled employers who really just want a return to slavery ~ a newer, cheaper version, slavewages! No overhead and all "freedom."

People, see Shock Doctrine (Netflix & Vimeo). Wisconsin is Shock Doctrine on American soil.

Dirty money by the ton, election fraud, Voter suppression, public usurpation may trump Wisconsin Voters, but it will Piss-Off Americans. That's why the King-Cons are applying massive overkill!! They do not want America to see their dirty deeds at work!! They don't want Americans to realize the Class War is on, and they are already losing.

RepubliCons don't think, they believe. It's not politics to them, it's religion.

Their party has devolved into a cult, and Big Money is their Charlie Manson. They would support Walker, Romney or W even if they were freezing under a bridge. Pure delusion.

Tell me this, why would anyone want to be rich in a poor city, state or country? And how can they justify the unprecedented concentration of wealth to so few, while the rest of the country goes broke, loses jobs and homes, families are ruined, homeless and poverty only seen in third wold countries? Greed and indifference only seen in Hollywood movies. Their time will come, like a ton of bricks.
