Forum Post: Do you guys even know what you're protesting?

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 13, 2011, 10:58 p.m. EST by Lork (285)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

http://occupywallst.org/forum/what-did-corperations-do-to-you-guys/

I looked at all the answers there. There were a -lot- of vague answers but no specifics. Mostly all I saw was "Fuck evil corporations!" and the best I saw was "You pit us against each other with emotional issues!"

NOBODY mentioned so-called "Free" Trade. EVERYBODY here seems to be ignorant that Obama just passed the South Korean FTA that will soon kill Bay Area tech jobs...so we can sell them beef and pork.

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-Pacific/2011/1013/Trade-deals-South-Korea-finally-wins-FTA-with-the-US-but-hurdles-remain

(btw I LOVE how the CSM TOTALLY skirted over the electronics jobs issue.)

If you're sitting there right now asking "Well - what did 'Free' Trade do?" then go home. You are too privileged to be protesting ANYTHING and too thick to genuinely say that you "Hate big corporations and Reagan to Obama.".

It's frustrating that many of the people here can't verbalize their anger. It's frustrating for you, and for me, and - believe me, believe me - it must be frustrating for them, too.

But you can not say that the inability to verbalize the problem automatically means the anger is invalid.

There are movements and trends boiling up that are beginning to put the problem into words for many people, and - given your discontent with the free trade agreements - I think you might even agree with it. I don't know, maybe not, because it's not "new." It's not a "new" problem. But it's a big one, and it resonates.

Ignorance is a legacy. I make it my policy to avoid dismissing people just because of a little ignorance. The question isn't "do they know," the question is "can they learn?" There are people who are awakening for the first time in their lives; don't greet them with a slap in the face.

[-] 1 points by SanityScribe (452) 12 years ago

"There are people who are awakening for the first time in their lives; don't greet them with a slap in the face."

That would be people on both sides from what I see here. An awakening is happening.

The 1%ers already invaded OWS. You will notice that we just got a bunch of people advocating 1%er-friendly tax scams, telling people that "the poor choose to be poor", etc.

They fucking got infiltrated! By the WRONG SIDE.

Fail. Epic Fail.

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

...>.>

Look we're just going to have the same shitty government that we have now if we keep voting against ourselves.

Oh. Wait. You're probably an invader.

Nice going guys. Not only did you crush your enemy - you got them to do the dirty work for you. Ha. Ha.

Many more people will come to your side when you are proactive (for “new” Business & Government solutions), instead of reactive (against “old” Business & Government solutions), which is why what we most immediately need is a comprehensive “new” strategy that implements all our various socioeconomic demands at the same time, regardless of party, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management System of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves; that is, using a Focused Direct Democracy organized according to our current Occupations & Generations. Consequently, I have posted a 1-page Summary of the Strategically Weighted Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

http://getsatisfaction.com/americanselect/topics/on_strategic_legal_policy_organizational_operational_structures_tactical_investment_procedures

Join

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/StrategicInternationalSystems/

because we need 100,000 “support clicks” at AmericansElect.org to support a Presidential Candidate -- such as any given political opportunist you'd like to draft -- in support of the above bank-focused platform.

Most importantly, remember, as cited in the first link above, that as Bank Owner-Voters in your 1 of 48 "new" Business Investment Groups (or "new" Congressional Committees) you become the "new" Congress replacing the "old" Congress according to your current Occupation & Generation, called a Focused Direct Democracy.

Therefore, any Candidate (or Leader) therein, regardless of party, is a straw man, a puppet; it's the STRATEGY – the sequence of steps – that the people organize themselves under, in Military Internet Formation of their Individual Purchasing & Group Investment Power, that's important. Sequence is key.

Why? Because there are Natural Social Laws – in mathematical sequence – that are just like Natural Physical Laws, such as the Law of Gravity. You must follow those Natural Social Laws or the result will be Injustice, War, etc.

The FIRST step in Natural Social Law is to CONTROL the Banks as Bank Owner-Voters. If you do not, you will inevitably be UNJUSTLY EXPLOITED by the Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government who have a Legitimate Profit Motive, just like you, to do so.

Consequently, you have no choice but to become Candidates (or Leaders) yourselves as Bank Owner-Voters according to your current Occupation & Generation.

So please JOIN the 2nd link, so we can make our support clicks at AmericansElect.org when called for by e-mail from the group in the 2nd link, and then you will see and feel how your goals can be accomplished within the strategy of the 1st link as a “new” Candidate (or Leader) of your Occupation & Generation.

The main purpose of the protest is to protect the middle class. The government depends on the citizens of the United States to pay almost 43% of the total tax revenue. The majority of individual income taxes come from middle class payroll taxes. Corporations only pay $297 billion in comparison to the $2.57 trillion received by individual income taxes (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/budget-2010/). That's a fairly large disparity if you ask me. These people are trying to stand up for you and me. Another issue at hand is the fact that we, the middle class, bailed these huge corporations out. We had our taxes used for something we didn't agree with and had no promise of return, just more debt added on to the national total, which we will again pay for with our taxes. Another important reason there is a "hate" for large corporations would be that major corporations do not evenly distribute wealth. I work for a large corporation and let me tell you the disparity between the regular worker and the CEO's is astounding. Where as I may get a 2 or 3% raise or no raise at all, the heads of the company recieve 10 to 20% raises as well as divedends equalling somewhere in the millions. I suggest you take a step back and adjust your anger towards the correct target. I am proud I went to support this diverse group of people at least once..... AND if you scrutinize this forum a tad bit you will find a well written list of demands on a congressional level. Things including 1. Eliminate Corporate Personhood 2. Make Elections Transparent and Verifiable 3. Enact Term Limits for Congress 4. End the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan 5. Create Jobs Through Public Works 6. Pass Universal Health Care 7. Prosecute Leaders Who Violate Constitution 8. Defend Liberty, Repeal Unjust Laws, and Decriminalize Victimless Crimes 9. Protect the Environment 10. End Capital Punishment. They are explained in more detail at http://www.occupycommunity.org

If someone cannot look at a crowd of protesters and see what they are protesting then they are either showing willful ignorance or they are illiterate and deaf. It is pretty obvious. And if its not their is always wikipedia which will give you almost a cliff note version.

[-] 1 points by ashneyB (2) 12 years ago

Sometimes, the don't know and don't even care about our protests.

[-] 1 points by oceanweed (521) 12 years ago

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: One of the main pillars of Conservative propaganda is that both parties are the same. Nothing they say is further from the truth. It is an insidious lie intended to demoralize progressives, and discourage them from voting. Do not fall for this canard, because if both parties are the same, there is no hope for change, and therefore no reason to vote. The truth is that there is a difference between the parties. A stark difference! One party works for the rich, the other party works for all Americans. One party takes money from the needy to feed the greedy, and the other party takes money from the greedy to feed the needy. One party has plans and policies to create jobs, and the other party has a long list of lame excuses for not doing anything. Liberals want to change things. Conservatives want things to stay the same. There is a difference. One party wants to tax the rich, and the other party wants to tax the poor. One party wants to destroy Unions, and the other party wants to support them. One party supports the Occupation of Wall Street, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to rebuild America, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to provide health care for all, and the other party doesn’t. One party wants to regulate Wall Street, and the other party doesn’t. One Party wants to end the wars; the other party wants them to go on forever. There is a difference. One party is Myopic, and the other party is Far Sighted. One party wants to help the Middle Class, and the other party is at war with the Middle Class. One party wants to fire Teachers, and the other party wants to hire them. One party wants to create more jobs in America, and the other party wants to create more jobs in Asia. There is a difference. One party wants to protect pensions, and the other party wants to loot them. One party has a heart, and the other party has Ann Coulter. One party protects the right bear Arms, and the other party protects the right of freedom of assembly. One party believes that the only role for the Government is to provide for the common defense, and the other party believes that the Government should also promote the general Welfare. There is a difference, and anybody that tells you there is no difference between the parties is simply not conversant with reality. In addition, anyone that blames the Democrats for the current state of affairs has no understanding of who controls the Government. One Party has the Presidency, and the other party has the Majority in the House, controls the Senate, has a majority on the Supreme Court, and is responsible for current economic policy. So, if you’re angry, and you want to start a real fight, I submit that we should start a real fight with the Conservatives! America has a Two Party System. One party is clearly on your side, the other party thinks you’re and Anti-American mob. At some point in time you’re going to have to pick one. Choose wisely, your future is at stake

Do you realize you just got infiltrated by hardcore Libertarians?

[-] 1 points by DirtyHippie (200) 12 years ago

We're protesting against people who ask us what we're protesting.

[-] 1 points by usaworktomuch (55) 12 years ago

"LORK" there are many issues people are upset with - but for you to belittle the movement becuase there are numerous issue is lame. Here are some points we need to face: If we don't stop Corporate America - there will be 1 day weekends; NO VACATION time; and 70-80 hour work weeks!!!! Also CHINA is bankrolling us - without them these fancy greedy corporate fucks would be just as broke as the rest of America. In think China should stop bankrolling us - and then the shit will hit the fan and then the true Americans will be seen!

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

usa - This movement just got hijacked by hardcore Libertarians. AT LEAST HALF the people here have fallen for 1%er created tax scams. AT LEAST EVERYONE does not know what they are TRULY fighting for.

Fuck you OWS. I TOLD you not to get hijacked and YOU DID. BY THE WRONG SIDE EPIC FAIL.

We are protesting the US government. The Entire thing. That is what no body realizes. That is what I predict it will turn into. That is what I want it to turn into.

One Demand: Step Down.

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

If you think that government is the face and that big companies are the victims then get out.

[-] 1 points by andrewpatrick46 (91) from Atlanta, GA 12 years ago

huh? where did that interpretation come from?

victim was never used in my sentence. the 98% of Americans who live in the middle class are the victims. and I am ready to fight everyone in washington.

Set a date and I will burn it down.

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

It's another half assed view like "End the FED!"

It SHOULD be "Take back the FED!" and "Take back our government!".

It SHOULD be "End Wall Street!" and "End the banksters!"

Wall Street is the shooter and the government and the FED are the gun. The bullet = Wall Street's anti human policies.

[-] 1 points by andrewpatrick46 (91) from Atlanta, GA 12 years ago

Our gov't is broke. we don't need to take it back, we need to destroy it and build a new one...or at the very least renovate it.

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

Our gov't was robbed. We NEED to take it back and this time we need to ACTUALLY TRY to keep the 1% in line...or at the very least - save this country from turning into Somalia.

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

well... if we don't stop the machine... all the jobs will be gone... oh well I'm getting tired of working anyway... what's your answers' Lork ?

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

Then start with the multinationals who outsource our jobs and use offshore tax havens to steal our jobs, our money AND rob USA's coffers of much needed revenue.

If you even have to ask "What do we need government for anyway?" then gtfo and crack open a book.

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

In that line of thinking ... how bout start with the ass hole corporations that don't give shit about America.... fuck the government ... the problem is with greed

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

Lork... the distribution of our industry to the impoverished ... (because that's where the cheapest labor is) ... world ... was orchestrated ... now we need to save America before it crumbles...

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

Then how do you suppose we do it?

If your answer is more Libertarianism in our Trade Policies then gtfo.

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

why do you want to hurt the rest of the world ?

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

I don't - the multinationals do by setting country against country in a global race to the bottom.

Oh wait - Libertarian or ignorant identified. Again - you are too privileged to protest ANYTHING. gtfo

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

if you call me a Libertarian again I'm gonna kick your ass... I am not a groopie

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

how about simply building a better way ? we are not idiots

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

Please explain what you mean in EXACT detail.

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

and we still don't have all exact details or answers... we are not God.. but we are the people ... jump in and help

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

Then you're just another clueless bonehead.

gtfo and Google free trade (especially Solyndra), G20 summit, "Who is minding the store at the federal reserve", "what are taxes for" and read these-

http://ntu.org/tax-basics/history-of-federal-individual-1.html

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/19/140599307/does-buffett-rule-add-up-for-obama-deficit-plan

And that is just the -start-.

You are way too privileged to be protesting ANYTHING from you and all your Libertarian and New Age friends' sheer amount of ignorance.

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

we need to take our whole country back

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

Lork, I agree with all that... but how are you going to solve it

the only way is with 99% hehe ok 60% of the peoples support

[-] 1 points by BradB (2693) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

we are building a "true democracy"

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

BradB if you just keep making very vague one liners then I am just going to assume that you are one of the idiots being talked about in this post

[-] 1 points by RichardGates (1529) 12 years ago

not here for the hate. want my answer? a floating minimum wage evaluated quarterly pegged to inflation and cost :)

[-] 1 points by Lork (285) 12 years ago

The problem is bigger than that I am afraid.

Even taxes alone aren't the answer.

[-] 0 points by Bizinuez (120) from Raleigh, NC 12 years ago

Nope not a clue. I'm a terribly dumb person. Bright lights frighten and confuse me. I saw a "car" the other day and thought it was a giant predator trying to eat me. Then it got dark and I thought that the sun disappeared forever. I am not actually typing this, I am grunting and moaning and squealing and a very nice person from my tribe is typing this out for me. But damned if I don't wanna protest.
