Consider, ''The Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Death of the Republic'' by Ellen Brown

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ellen-brown/the-transpacific-partnership_b_7136112.html

''On April 22, 2015, the Senate Finance Committee approved a bill to fast-track the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a massive trade agreement that would override our republican form of government and hand judicial and legislative authority to a foreign three-person panel of corporate lawyers.

''The secretive TPP is an agreement with Mexico, Canada, Japan, Singapore and seven other countries that affects 40% of global markets. Fast-track authority could now go to the full Senate for a vote as early as next week. Fast-track means Congress will be prohibited from amending the trade deal, which will be put to a simple up or down majority vote. Negotiating the TPP in secret and fast-tracking it through Congress is considered necessary to secure its passage, since if the public had time to review its onerous provisions, opposition would mount and defeat it...

''Under the TPP, could the US government be sued and be held liable if it decided to stop issuing Treasury debt and financed deficit spending in some other way (perhaps by quantitative easing or by issuing trillion dollar coins)? Why not, since some private companies would lose profits as a result?

''Under the TPP or the TTIP (the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership under negotiation with the European Union), would the Federal Reserve be sued if it failed to bail out banks that were too big to fail?

''Something else besides attracting investment money and encouraging foreign trade seems to be going on. The TPP would destroy our republican form of government under the rule of law, by elevating the rights of investors – also called the rights of “capital” – above the rights of the citizens.

''That means that TPP is blatantly unconstitutional. But ... neo-liberalism and corporate contributions seem to have blinded the deal’s proponents so much .. that they cannot see they are selling out the sovereignty of the United States to foreign and multinational corporations.''

What we have seen so far of TPP, is just the tip of the ice berg.

[-] 2 points by lugano (1221) 9 years ago

Bill Clinton signed NAFTA but will Mrs.C speak up against.. TPP / TTIP? Or will Bernie Sanders?!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/29/bernie-sanders-2016-_n_6391086.html Interesting huh?

What a good article.

Too bad our democracy, our republics, our destiny is in the hands of the writers of TPP, the one percent, and ready for rubber stamp by their puppet president.

Read the article. You can fool some of the people some of the time, these capitalistic thieves

[-] 2 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 9 years ago

This is the corporate despotism.....Like in the TARP bailouts, governments makes new rules for themselves, for their benefit, and that of their benefactors, the .one percent, take the powers that rest with the people, and send us the bill, and take away our voice, our representation. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ellen-brown/the-transpacific-partnership_b_7136112.html When did we abolish taxation without representation? Oh yea, we just aquiesed "A republican form of government is one in which power resides in elected officials representing the citizens, and government leaders exercise power according to the rule of law. In The Federalist Papers, James Madison defined a republic as "a government which derives all its powers directly or indirectly from the great body of the people . . . ."

On April 22, 2015, the Senate Finance Committee approved a bill to fast-track the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a massive trade agreement that would override our republican form of government and hand judicial and legislative authority to a foreign three-person panel of corporate lawyers.

Hillary Clinton will not oppose TPP/TTIP, I don't think - but would Bernie Sanders?

What's the big deal about a few more? The U.S. has the knowhow to shove it again and again. If the bull throws off the cowboy, he can certainly land squarely on his feet as a matador. Our ancestors would be really proud of our machismo.

We are doing our best to prevent legitimate debate.

As - we can't have people considering matters like:

Who supports access to Health care for all

Who attacks access to Health care for all

or

Who supports raising taxes on the wealthy

Who attacks raising taxes on the wealthy

or

Who supports expanding Social Security

Who attacks Social Security

or

Who promotes environmental standards and protective restrictions

Who attacks environmental standards and protective restrictions

I mean if we do not shut this stuff down it becomes pretty easy to see that we really can't conflate the dems as being exactly the same as the rethuglicans.

We need to support our meaningless self defeating circular logic that to gain participatory democracy and control of government - that the people need to opt out.

Your deep hatred of 'Bad Cop Republicans' (which I can totally understand) blinds you to the duplicity of 'Good Cop Democrats', right? You do confuse decent, left / progressive / liberal minded Democrat voters with their utterly bought and paid for politicians (with one or two exceptions, of course).. and so take the anti-Duopoly talk on theses threads Far Too Personally. OWS is 'non partisan' right?

Yet you'd co-opt it and look to turn it into a DNC cheering exercise! It's not happening any time soon so you'll be better off considering http://www.leftforum.org/ and seeing how Dems can be dragged from their many right wing, pro-Corporations and Bankers positions. Try to think about that now.

Ross Perot was a Texan candidate for the U.S. Presidency, next to the border with Mexico. He said of NAFTA before its passage later under the Clinton administration that he had heard of a giant sucking sound.

Now decades later we know very well personally the results of NAFTA and hear again a giant sucking sound from geoduck ingesting Pacific Ocean water on Washington NW's cesspool beach. Even Ronnie with his Alzheimer's memory could have said, "Here we go again!"

Around NAFTA time, geoduck was still a tiny clam in low school sucking in Pacific Ocean water. It has grown humongous rivalling the Clintonesque pumping capacity but cannabis-laced cesspool effluent damaged the capacity to learn history and economics. "Hang loose." "Aloha!" Should we trust geoduck's skeleton skill acquired at Sanki Sliding Centre and hop on with our eyes wide shut?

Sander is a leading opponent of NAFTA-style “free trade” deals. http://www.thenation.com/blog/205865/six-degrees-separation-between-bernie-sanders-and-hillary-clinton

He says, “All Americans, regardless of political ideology, should be opposed to the ‘fast track’ process which would deny Congress the right to amend the treaty and represent their constituents’ interests.” He has rallied workers and environmentalists against the deal, saying, “Let’s be clear: the TPP is much more than a “free trade” agreement. It is part of a global race to the bottom to boost the profits of large corporations and Wall Street by outsourcing jobs; undercutting worker rights; dismantling labor, environmental, health, food safety and financial laws; and allowing corporations to challenge our laws in international tribunals rather than our own court system.”

[-] 3 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 9 years ago

Look, I agree Sanders says a lot of good things, but where's the fire in his belly?! The person who interviews him seems to be more outraged than him. I'm used to having politicians lie to me, and talk in platitudes. I don't need anymore muddled oratories either.

The TPP and Fast Track are current, (Edit; He has the opportunity to influence the outcome!!), and Sanders has the chance to come out concisely and strongly against that legislation without referring to crappy past agreements, while at the same time educating people on how devastating it will be to us if they are passed.....and he is NOT doing that!. I need more!

Never underestimate the enemies of our people. Those who can see into the future but fail to speak up or try their best, seal the fates of the innocents. You really try your best to not say anything directly - it goes hand in hand with your dancing to avoid/evade questions that are put to you - your dancing is so strident - you continually try to change the subject when you are pressed for a direct answer - you will instead try to change the subject by pulling up from nowhere a completely unrelated topic.

Then you further try to cover your BS by posting links that actually have some relevance for the people. You try to reestablish your cover and then in a little while try to return back to your opt out self defeating bullshit propaganda to the people.

1st Link - ''Ralph Nader has suggested that President Obama debate Senator Warren on the TPP. This would be one way to get to the truth, hear both sides debate in public so we can all decide for ourselves whether this is an agreement that should be fast tracked through Congress outside of the traditional congressional process. But a president that has worked for his entire tenure in office to keep the TPP and other rigged agreements out of the public dialogue will certainly not take up this suggestion.''

2nd Link: ''But the pro-TPP elites don't like to talk about such things. Their trade deals are simply good and modern, and if you don't agree they will call you an anti-trade protectionist and all sorts of other bad things. That's what elites do when they don't have a real argument.'' and

We get really strident with this - when we feel we need to reapply shredded cover

All it requires - is - enough expressed vitriol for the system in general - and many will believe you mean it - while one need not provide any supporting substance.

(part 2)

When the 1st part is not enough we also love to pretend to support protest and things (whatever is handy) - helps to throw off suspicion.

10th track: (Tossing Shit)

As We have nothing to back-up our stated positions (opt-out fiction = public self defeating) - We will do our best to throw it back on ( put a lie on) any who would ask for details of our non-existent action plans (Ya know......those who put the lie to our bullshit - "who shine the light on our bullshit").

The putdown we use on others is simple - and with it in play - we then retreat - to our constant tactic of providing nothing while saying much (politi-speak = talking endlessly while saying "really" nothing at all - nothing of any value - see also: endlessly arguing circular "public self defeating" logic).

Tossing shit - we love it.

Wow, this is huge, Democrats facing off against a corporate owned, Republican president who is trying to cram the TPP down our throats. Wait a minute Obama is doing this and he is a Democrat!

Your glee is disingenuous for a purpose, which is obviously to see this struggle absorbed into the Democrat Party, where it will be brought under control.

Do you now feel justified to continue your campaign to have the Democrats swallow up the discontent that so many people have, and then use it so that one of the corrupted parties can regurgitate it back in the form of business as usual?

You would not have to go back very far in history to see that both parties have an infamous history of coopting third parties.

Occupy, including the other grassroot organizations will be brought much further to the right than the Democrats will be to the left if you were successful, but I would guess that you know that, and that's your raison d' etre, isn' it?

Senator Patty Murray: TPP vote proves her unfit to lead Senate Democrats

Petition to Senate Democrats: “No Democrat who opposes TPP should support Washington Senator Patty Murray for any position within the Democratic leadership. Her leading, visible and public role of working to pass Fast Track authority for the Trans-Pacific Partnership makes her unfit for a leadership position in the caucus.”

Add your name: Sign the petition ►

A TPP sellout shouldn’t be in Democratic Leadership

Washington Senator Patty Murray is one of 13 Democrats in the U.S. Senate who sold out practically every progressive constituency – from environmentalists to labor to Internet freedom advocates – by voting to pass Fast Track authority for approving the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and other dangerous trade deals.

President Obama, the Republican leadership of Congress and their allies in corporate America owe a huge debt of gratitude to Murray who played a pivotal and leading role in Fast Track becoming law, and now Senator Murray is considering challenging Senator Dick Durbin for a key leadership position in the Senate Democratic caucus.1

This is unacceptable. Supporting Fast Track and playing a crucial role in the passage of this corporate power grab, should disqualify Murray from consideration for a leadership position within the Senate Democratic caucus.

We need to send a message now that there is a price to pay for Democrats casting votes that serve corporations instead of constituents – and part of that price is being denied promotion to Democratic leadership in the Senate.

Tell Senate Democrats: Sen. Patty Murray's vote for Fast Track for TPP makes her unfit to serve in any leadership position in the Senate Democratic caucus. Click here to sign the petition.

Murray is specifically considering a run to be the Democratic whip in the U.S. Senate, which would put her in position to round up votes from Senate Democrats on issues ranging from economic justice to climate change. It is crucial for progressives to have a leader in this position who has a record of standing up to corporate interests.

Not only did Murray vote for Fast Track, she helped lead the effort to gather key Democratic votes after cutting a cynical deal with Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. On the Senate floor, as the bill struggled to reach 60 votes, Murray negotiated a deal trading a vote on reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank, a government agency "that subsidizes foreign purchasers of U.S.-made products," in exchange for enough support from Democrats putting Fast Track over the top.2

According to reports, Murray appeared to be doing this at the behest of Boeing and other major corporations, for whom passage of both the Export-Import Bank reauthorization bill and Fast Track were major legislative priorities.3 Boeing, based in Washington, claims it relies on the bank to sell their planes overseas. Sen. McConnell broke his promise to hold a vote on reauthorizing the bank, yet Murray voted yes anyway.

Tell Senate Democrats: Sen. Patty Murray's vote for Fast Track for TPP makes her unfit to serve in any leadership position in the Senate Democratic caucus. Click here to sign the petition.

We need Democrats in leadership positions who will uphold and defend the values of progressive constituencies, not work to pass legislation at the top of the Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street’s wish list.

We need to show Democratic members of the Senate that selling out their progressive base in favor of corporate interests will have a cost when they aspire to attain key leadership positions. Click the link below to sign the petition:

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Thanks to the tireless work of everyday Americans like you, the Fast Track bill was stalled and the debate surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) reached the national spotlight.

However ...

Through procedural tricks, members of Congress who serve Big Business interests were just barely able to force the Fast Track bill through the House and Senate and onto the president’s desk.

On Monday, President Barack Obama signed Fast Track into law.

I won’t try to sugarcoat it. This is bad news.

It means that so-called trade deals like the secret TPP will get special treatment in Congress — extremely limited debate and no amendments allowed.

Even though the text is secret, leaks reveal that the TPP contains widespread threats to U.S. jobs and wages, affordable medicines, safe foods, Wall Street regulations, clean energy laws and more.

There is too much at stake to accept defeat.

Though Fast Track is now law, we still can and must defeat the TPP.

Are you still with us?

Add your name now if you will never stop fighting the TPP.

All of the work we did together against Fast Track — writing and calling our representatives, attending rallies, explaining the TPP to friends and neighbors — doesn’t go out the window now that the bill has passed.

Public Citizen President Robert Weissman had this to say about our work:

“In carrying forward the fight, and raising the profile ... we refocused the national debate on trade and globalization policy in a way that has been absent for 20 years. We’re going to have a very, very tough fight on our hands to try and stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership from proceeding, but thanks to the fight we had over Fast Track, I think we’re looking at a dying model of trade policy.”

Activists across the country have built an unprecedented coalition of environmental groups, LGBT activists, farmers, consumer advocates and 100 percent of the labor movement, working to stop corporate-rigged trade.

This coalition will not quietly fade into the sunset. No — we will continue the hard work of defending everyday people from the corporate greed at the heart of the TPP.

Fast Track’s passage was disappointing, but it does not seal the deal for the TPP.

We’ve stopped corporate-rigged trade deals before. And we’ll do it again.

You’ve probably never heard of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). That’s because it never came to pass.

That would-be trade deal aimed to expand NAFTA’s race-to-the-bottom to include 31 additional countries. Negotiations began in 1994 and continued for several years despite growing protests. Congress even passed Fast Track to pave the way for the secret deal, just as it did last week for the TPP.

Back then, with Fast Track passed, it looked like the FTAA was a done deal. But international public demand forced negotiators to release the secret text. Once the corporate demands contained in the text were laid bare, opposition to the deal skyrocketed and countries started to back out. The last negotiations were held in 2003, and that was the end of the FTAA.

We can defeat the TPP. If we stay strong and stick together.

Sign the pledge to keep fighting the TPP.

Thanks for all you do.

You know what a disaster the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would be for our country.

We need you to call your member of Congress TODAY to demand they vote no on “fast track” -- the undemocratic law that “greases the skids” for TPP by forcing a vote with little debate and no amendments.

Click here to call your member of Congress.

It doesn’t matter whether your member of Congress supports, opposes or is undecided about fast track. The phone calls of CAF activists and hundreds of other groups will swamp Congress with calls – if we all call TODAY.

So what do you have time for? Let me share a thought that I just expressed on another post:

Yes protest must be fluid - BUT - protest must also fuel unity in taking action - REVOLUTION being something that makes what was once illegal and makes it legal or the converse - taking something that is legal and making it illegal - pertains to the people controlling government or the very few controlling government - as to what actions will be supported = for the few or for ALL.

Protest that does not involve the uniting of the people to take control of government - will see no lasting result for good for ALL.

Speak-up Speak-out (the attached petition offers you the ability to add to the message - speak out against fast track and the TPP because worker abuse is not restricted to any one industry and will be so much worse if TPP is fast tracked & passed)

"The company lied." Watch John Oliver on the Abusive Chicken Industry and Take Action

The chicken industry has a secret history of abuse. This story isn't about chickens (though there's plenty to say about that). This is about the powerful poultry industry reaping massive profits on the backs of our farmers and retaliating when they speak out.

Chicken is America's most popular meat, yet many chicken farmers are living below or near the poverty line. And when these farmers try to change the conditions that have forced many to live like indentured servants on their own land — these companies bully them.

This is unacceptable. Watch John Oliver's revealing piece and send a message to Congress to protect chicken farmers from retaliation by Big Poultry.

Food & Water Watch has been working on this problem for years, and we've seen small, incremental steps toward progress. But every time we move forward, the powerful poultry lobby exerts their influence over members of Congress to block common-sense protections for farmers.

It's past time for Congress to wake up and stop caving to special interest money. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) has introduced an amendment that would protect chicken farmers from retaliation if they speak out against abuses by Big Poultry.

Watch this clip, then tell Congress to support Rep. Kaptur's amendment to protect farmers.

Thanks for taking action,

Please take the following survey.

It would be my hope that you would tell the Bold Progressives (?) that Hillary is a very poor choice to campaign for for the office of president.

Why?

Her silence (no position taken) on TPP. This one issue alone is about saving democracy and not handing over our country to the wealthy/multinationals - She should be attacking TPP and Fast Tracking with every ounce of energy that She has - IF - She is for the people and for the survival of democracy.

There is an option that will come up in one of the survey questions where you could say that your support if not for Hillary would go to another candidate. Bernie will be one of the other candidates that you could choose on this question to support and there are a few others that will also be presented to you for your consideration/choice/selection as well - I went with Bernie.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Does He NOT see it? I think he does - and as such is all the more reason that the people need a real voice in what happens in government. We can not rely on any single person to always do what is sane/right. Not letting the public see it - is being done with the purpose of letting it get passed prior to public understanding of their danger and is why their is a gag order on the government and the press to keep it from being talked about.

There are too many assholes in office. Most all of em have no conception of the idea of public service - public service which is supposed to be the name of their job. Bernie Sanders and a few others like Elizabeth Warren on the other-hand DO understand that their job "IS" all about public service (service to the public).

Could the public through uniting in a Direct Democracy Action make needed changes? Move To Amend is (I feel) something along the lines of a direct democracy action. Are we missing a more full potential for action?

[-] 0 points by Nevada1 (5843) 9 years ago

Yes, most politicians have no concept of public service, and serve only the Homicidal Bohemian Grove Pedophiles.

Good News

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

More good news . . . . . . . well . . .. . kind of . . . .. the G7 :

Dear Avaazers,

“The Our appeals followed G7 Chair Angela Merkel everywhere for 6 weeks. Many told us it was a pipe dream, but the G7 Summit of leading world powers just committed to getting the global economy off fossil fuels forever!!!

Even the normally cynical media is raving that this is a huge deal.

And it's one giant step closer to a huge win at the Paris summit in December -- where the entire world could unite behind the same goal of a world without fossil fuels -- the only way to save us all from catastrophic climate change.

For 2 years our community has led global public mobilisation for this goal, including:

spearheading the gigantic, momentum-changing, 700,000 strong climate march last year a 2.7 million person petition for 100% clean/0 carbon delivered to dozens of key leaders scores of rallies, high-level lobbying meetings, opinion polls, and ad campaigns, all funded by our community a 3 month all-out push for the G7 summit leadership, especially German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to put this on the agenda and agree to this goal

Our work is far from done, but it's a day to celebrate -- click here to read more and say congratulations to everyone else in this incredibly wonderful community!!

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/paris_here_we_come/?bGfGZcb&v=60188

“TheWe spearheaded the largest climate march in history - nearly 700,000 strong and a game-changer for political momentum. Just last year climate change seemed to many of us like a behemoth that was dooming our species to a significant probability of extinction due to our own stupidity and corruption.

But with hope, and good strategy, (the Avaaz effect:)), and the efforts of many leaders like German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Pope Francis, and organisations like our friends at 350 and the Guardian newspaper's work on fossil fuel divestment, as well as killer research from groups like the World Resources Institute, most experts now believe the tide is turning, and momentum is building to get a global deal in Paris this year that will set the world on course to a solution. It will be a long fight, we cannot afford to drop our guard, but today, we celebrate a battle won!!!

With gratitude and joy,

Ricken, Alice, Emma, Iain, and the whole Avaaz team

PS: the G7 declaration is just a commitment, and we need to hold them accountable, but commitments matter - sending an immediate signal to dirty and clean energy investors that will help accelerate the clean-energy boom we desperately need. There's more info on the summit and how we helped win this on our celebration page:

Well well well - look who is here - one of the opt-out do nothing Judas goat mutts!

HUH.

Still trying to maintain cover I see.

This is the truth = you and your twinkle/stinkle team mutts - will never be more than at the very least "suspect" - as you never forward anything for the public to unite "in" to take action to remove thugs from office and take control of government for the people.

Yeah yeah yeah - you spout a lot of anti-establishment politi-speak - but you - never - ever - forward anything as a plan of action for the public to change the structure of government.

[-] 0 points by mdonelly (324) from Mineola, NY 9 years ago

Go away. Your version of "opt out" is twisted. I would like to think that you have no idea what this struggle is about, but I know better. You just want to change it into something that is more easily controlled if our focus was to buy into the corrupt political process.

17th track "(We will endlessly argue meaningless "public self defeating" circular logic)"

We will endlessly argue meaningless "public self defeating" circular logic

We get that from the rethuglicans.

We will tell you that we have something good.

But when asked what that is - we can't formulate a straight answer.

So we will go back to arguing a meaningless self defeating circular logic.

Like:

Don't vote because that won't help - just protest instead because that will make everything better all by itself.

And if you don't accept that and refute it - we will gang-up on you and stinkle team you relentlessly - because that proves that we are right and you are wrong. It goes hand in hand with our meaningless "public self defeating" circular logic.

Yes it really is. But it is not the end of the story - not yet. Pressure must be maintained.

AND

Eventually the rethuglicans who are lock step in support of this crap must be removed from office to end the recurring threat.

[-] 0 points by Nevada1 (5843) 9 years ago

Love Avaaz. Regarding the application of pressure----We are just getting started.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

We can only be successful - by removing the thugs who are against us from office. Until then the public will only ever be offered a sop to keep them from bringing out the pitchforks.

There are those who say (for various reasons) that the public can not make the necessary changes at the polls. I call them - beaten down (at the very best) and agents in support of the current status-quo = Judas Goats at the very worst. As there are actually people who feel that they can not make a change by voting in good people to office and removing bad people from office - and then - there are those who are determined to stop the people from taking that action.

People - a query.

Why do democrats defend the public voting rights and the rethuglicans work to remove the voting right?

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

No no you said that. As you always do. You conflate the dems with the rethuglicans - but - you never show the proof to your accusations.

I say put your claimed hypothesis to the test.

If each is as bad as the other - then - it should make no difference as to who is in majority.

So

Lets vote out every rethuglican that is in office (local state and federal) and confirm the fact that things will not get better for the people.

I mean the rethuglicans have already come out as being solidly against the individual citizen.

So.

To prove your point that the dems are no better - we should remove every rethuglican from office and see if things remain the same.

RIGHT?

I mean it can't get any worse if you are correct and both parties are the same.

RIGHT?

20th track "(We really really really are not about Direct Democracy)"

As people could tell if only people paid attention to our activities

Lucky for us the people do not and so we can continue with our politi-speak = talking endlessly while saying "really" nothing at all - nothing of any value - see also: endlessly arguing circular "public self defeating" logic, tossing shit, spouting specious aspersions, trying to hide in the light, etc etc etc

Lucky thing that more people don't ask us why:

"Why don't you take over government for the people from within?"

"Seeing as you don't have a national party in place to successfully run your candidates in all 50 states - WHY don't you run your candidates as dems and reps?"

Well we would just have to say (and we do) that the people can't be successful that way. Better we say - if we all stay away - and just protest for government to get better.

We really do not want people to consider a possible winner by doing things like Bernie Sanders and run as a dem for a real chance to win - and have "more" people running on the issues where they can legitimately destroy their opponents in office or also running for office - by pointing out past voting records showing non support for the people - even showing active attacks on the people - or even calling on them to declare a public stance.

Gosh that would ruin our whole "public self defeating" circular do nothing opt out and just protest logic.

It is a sign of political trepidation for Hillary not to have come out long ago and forcefuly against the passage of the TPP. She's perplexed, and no doubt, dealing with the tactical side of this issue because she knows that she is caught between a rock and a hard place. This is not an issue from the past, or something way off on the horizon, it's current, it's NOW!! And it is far more difficult for her to talk out of both sides of her mouth , now when you have an awoken citizenry who well knows how deleterious the TPP would be to people, if put into law.

That scenario, whether you agree with it, or not.... could NOT have happened before Occupy!!! That's inarguable! It was them...it was us.... who changed the lexicon... the way of thinking in this country.... and we learned the truths, and realized how screwed up our system was, and how our politicians had honed the art of doule speak. .. Then most of us who wanted a 'just' change, went on,.. reaching out, and and sharing our knowledge.

Twenty years, or so ago (in particular), the dilema that she faces would have been a bit of a problem for her. NOW though after Occupy's radical people, she has a political CRISIS!

If she supports the passage of the TPP, then when Sanders loses, she cannot expect to seduce the disgruntled left (that's not just us) into her corrupt Democratic Party, for support in the general election. Then if Hillary comes out against the TPP, she may well lose the support of her criminal benefactors that she counted on. You can be certain that this is a HUGE topic of conversation with her staff...err and probably the lobbyists, the bankers and the corporate bigee's too. Not us tho...

This may be disappointing to some people here ;), but people who want an honest government that lives by, and promotes peace and justice are NOT radicals. It's the system that is not just radical, but criminal as well

This is all interesting to ponder, but we will never have systemic changes with candidates from either of these two rotten parties. They are corrupt beyond repair!

Now we gotta see what congress does - will there be enough opposition?

So many are working so hard to make changes to our food supply that would make it safer and more sustainable, but right now we also have those trying just as hard to keep the status quo or even submarine our efforts.

On the bright side, today is International Biodiversity Day and Dr. Vandana Shiva has a great message and a couple of films on her website that you can find here: http://seedfreedom.info/a-message-from-dr-vandana-shiva-for-international-biodiversity-day-and-march-against-monsanto/.

Tomorrow is the world wide Third Annual March Against Monsanto and you can find more on that effort by going to their website: http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/ If you click on Events it might take a moment to load but there is a list of all of the marches and their organizers and pages.

On the other side of the issue, we have the Dark Act which would Deny Americans the Right to Know: https://www.organicconsumers.org/news/your-representative-supporting-dark-act and the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Trade Promotion Authority (better known as Fast Track) If you don't know about this, then here is a great place to find out more: http://www.exposethetpp.org/ and if you are on Facebook, you can find out more in your state groups with names like Expose the TPP - (your state's name spelled out). There is a national page called Expose the TPP USA and another called Flush the TPP. Why do we care so deeply about this issue? It is a secret trade deal and one of the companies who helped plan the language is no other than Monsanto. Please check with our good friends at Organic Consumers Association (OCA) for their latest info and action items. Half way down this page look for "Don't Let Congress "Fast-Track" Dangerous Trade Deals": https://www.organicconsumers.org/categories/politics-globalization

We are moving forward. We are making progress. Just stay the course and do what you can. To all those speaking and marching tomorrow, we are with you in spirit. Thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone and standing up for your family, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens.

Our best to you all,

There are more - so many people and so many groups working towards uniting the people to take positive action - this is where the millions of people (as Bernie also rightfully says are needed) that are needed to make necessary change will come from.

The controversial bill that would put the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on the Fast Track to approval just passed in the Senate. We need to stop it before it moves any further in the House.

Big Business is lobbying hard to push this bill through, so your U.S. Rep needs to know where you stand.

Send an urgent message to Rep. Erik Paulsen— Vote NO on the Fast Track bill in the House.

Nearly all environmental organizations and advocates for the public interest (like us) are opposed to Fast Track and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. All labor groups are opposed. Trade deals like the TPP have lost us millions of good paying jobs with benefits (we lost 700,000 with NAFTA alone) by shipping work overseas to countries with lax environmental and labor protections.

Passing the TPP would be repeating history, with potentially worse consequences. This deal would expedite fracking by increasing exports of fracked gas and threaten food safety by allowing a flood of cheap imports. Most concerning of all, it includes a key provision that would allow foreign companies to sue over democratically-enacted local laws — like banning fracking or labeling GMOs — if they claim it hurts their anticipated profits.

The only ones who benefit from the TPP are massive corporations and their bottom line. Tell your U.S. Rep: Vote NO on Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

This massive trade deal is making headlines, in part because of the unlikely partnership between the Obama Administration, Republicans and the Chamber of Commerce — all pushing to put the TPP on the fast track to approval. Meanwhile, progressive leaders like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and countless others are siding with advocates for the environment, labor and the public interest. So why is Obama pushing for this pro-big business trade deal? Unfortunately, corporate special interests are a powerful force on both sides of the aisle. But if the public stands together in firm opposition to fast tracking the TPP, we're more powerful than they are.

The Fast Track bill would expedite approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, limiting public input even further. This deal was written and negotiated in secret, among some of the world's most powerful corporations, while Congress and the public have been shut out. The text of the trade deal is housed in a secure room, and members of Congress can read it but they can't take notes or talk to anyone about what's in it. Last time I checked, that's not how democracy should work.

Don't we deserve to weigh in? Take action now to say NO to Fast Track for the TPP.
