Forum Post: ALEC and Article V

Posted 11 years ago on Jan. 9, 2013, 7:46 p.m. EST by shoozTroll (17632)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Using the Koch brothers hard "bought" Governors, ALEC moves in for the kill.

"Are Governors Scott Walker, Rick Scott, Jan Brewer, John Kasich, Rick Perry, Rick Snyder, Nikki Haley and others conspiring to hijack our Constitution on July 4th, 2013? The conservative think-tank, Goldwater Institute, is moving lobbyists into position to mobilize legislatures throughout our nation with a Compact for America devised by their lead attorney Nick Dranias.

The Compact for America has set a timetable to convene a single issue constitutional convention this summer using Article V of the US Constitution to railroad the revised Balanced Budget Amendment in to the Constitution."

FEAR the 4th of July.

Although there is a huge amount to fear from this,
and kochs have a near infinite amount of money to waste on this -
they threw away a fortune on willard and will spend more in 4 years.

There are many key roadblocks to holding a convention:

1 calling a convention requires 2/3 of state legislatures OR 2/3 of the House & Senate
so they would need
( 34/50 state assemblies & state senates )
OR
(67/100 US Senators & 292 House members)

2 there is no such thing as a single issue convention

The kochs would also like to remove cap gains tax & inheritance tax. If this gets anywhere close to reality, the FACTS will become very scary to citizens.
With the alec/koch/norquist cabal - willing to spend billions to elect willard, buying the convention delegates would cost almost nothing.
Technically, convention delegates representing only 16,000,000 Americans could completely rewrite the constitution.

For many more details, see our document #7

http://corporationsarenotpeople.webuda.com

http://corporationsarenotpeople.webuda.com/1_6_DOCUMENTS.html

although the governors' states that you list, and most of their legislatures are owned by alec, the distance from those 7 to 34 - is very very far

technically, there have been many hundreds of state applications for a convention, but the courts have ruled that the for applications they have to be almost identically worded - and "single issue" language invalidates them

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I hope you're correct, but I never thought those Governors would get away with all the things they have either, yet they did.

And no one blinked.....................................

Everyone already forgot..

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

The stupidity of 47% of American voters
outweighs the danger of alec or koch or iran or n. korea Getting the truth out - to that 47% -
or to non-voters - must be a primary goal of OWS

but the rules of CALLING a convention are clearly stated in the constitution.
2/3 = 2/3 But many, many details are lacking
Please read the document on our site.

V:
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

Easy eeyore...

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Awww.

Another insult from you.......

How cute.

Another non-comment on the subject.

IT was YOU doing a lot of the distracting around here as those Governors were getting away with it.

So apparently you have nothing to forget, because you either never noticed, or are in full agreement.

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I thought that was yooreur nickname for me before, eeyore, right?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

As usual, you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

But since you're back to your insulting self. I'm tired of being polite to such an unmitigated asshole.

A fuck up who thinks the 99% are asses.

A fuck up that thinks that's a proper attitude for a revolution.

"I hate you people, so help me storm the castle"!!

I'll bet that really works for you.

Or do you just lie to their faces and pretend to be polite?

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Youre an angry old fool who doesnt know what hes talking about.

Go ahead. Let it out. Ive been hearing people criticize us for not fitting into their box for over a year now. You are just one of many.

Let it out. Lets see what you are made of. How hard can you verbally cut someone up?

Take this forum right into the sewer.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Awww.

Even more insults, with added assumptions.

I do believe, I've already pointed out to you, how you live in your own little box, and you never ever leave it.

It shows when what you are asserting is rendered false, yet it never affects what you post.

You just double down and say it again.

Sewer?

People calling the 99% asses in thread titles did that a while ago....

I wonder who that might have been?

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Yep. I love this shit. It just gets better and better every time we hear it.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Goldwater.............Our first.

Wait for it.........................

True neolibe(R)tarian.

His "institute" certainly is today.

Forced IRONY?

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

He was such a scum sucker.

I said the Goldwater Institute has tried this before on the other thread promoting it. It's horrific. Watching this unfold is insane.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

They have the help of the Koch's and ALEC this time, and the courts and Governors are all in place.

Plus............

FLAKESnews has kept their viewers in a frenzy over such economic "cliffs" for over 4 years now.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

That's the difference. A lot of ticked off people and a hell of a lot of spin.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This could be the State data the Koch's were waiting on.

I wonder what their official statement is going to be in April.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Will the official statement matter?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Coupled with the front groups, astroturf, and think tanks they will be funding in the interim...........maybe................:)

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

But, it is merely a repeat of the same shit for the past 40 years.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

A inexorable march towards complete corporate tyranny.

One State at a time, and now a push for article V, to their liking and their liking alone.

I hope ben is correct and their insistence on a single issue will kill the attempt.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I do too.

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

Great post, Haven't heard much about it. Nothing on MSM.

Everyone should be outraged and moved to act.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Toss another log on the pile of things you never hear on the MSM....:)

Should we start a list? Is there a server big enough to hold it?

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

There is some value in having a post keeping a tally of CMSM neglect.

May be too labor intensive. Also good to list the non MSM that does cover important stories.

"Who can we Trust" kinda thing this way we add positive value to the effort. (Stories MSM ignore and who DOES cover them.)

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Why are the politicians more motivated to screw the people than the people are to fix the situation?

Yes, they have the money. But we have the numbers. It should be a cross cancel.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Still having problems commenting on the issue at hand?

Try actually reading the post and following and reading any relevant links.

Honestly. It would help.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Is that what you think this is?

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I think that should be the reaction of the people if governors start pulling something like that.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Ok.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

If that were the case, the actions of the above Governors should have already been enough to do it,

But you just call it gossip, and wedge issues.

Sleeping at the switch on your part...............I call it.

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

"If that were the case, the actions of the above Governors should have already been enough to do it,"

Apparently it IS the case.

So what are you going to do?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Still no real comment on what's said?

Still drooling on your ALEC bib?

Why bother to comment, if you have nothing of value to add?

How's your masses are asses signage coming along?

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I said if that was the case we should storm the basille.

Then you went on your usual nonsense.

Why are you such a bitter asshole?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Why are you just an insulting asshole?

You aren't storming any such a thing.

That's the nonsense.

Why haven't you stormed Gov. Scott?

Why are you so full of shit?

Why do love ALEC?

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Ive gotten so riled up in front of people protesting the voter id thing that the police had to tell me to tone it down or get lost. Granted my complaints were with both parties, the idiot legislation and the criminals on the other side that were being pandered to.

You dont know who you are talking to.

But your bitter attacks are getting old. Dont be a hypocrite.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Yet you called it a "meaningless wedge issue" here.

Insisted it was a "meaningless wedge issue"

What were you saying about hypocrites?

I'm not bitter.

I'm just not buying your bullshit.

[-] 1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Not talking about a hypocrite on an internet post. Talking about being a hypocrite on overall activism.

"At what point does the obvious removal of democratic process from the constitutional convention become so outrageous that the people react? This seems to be a scenario which could be the last straw. We could be teetering at the brink of civil revolt."

Storm the Bastille.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I got an idea.

Why don't you go storm that tumor guy?

You never go after the "right wingers" around here.

It's given you a bad reputation.

Oh...BTW.

You DID call voter purges a "wedge issue".

Very insistent, in fact.

So yeah, that makes you a hypocrite.

[-] 2 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I called it a wedge issue because it doesnt really have that much of an impact in a bought out, corrupted system. People voting or not when its dominated by money gets you the same thing- corporate representation.

Instead of focusing on the big issues, and holding the politicians feet to the fire, they focused on that....constantly....almost exclusively.

It got the public very divided and very distracted...and we ended up with a bunch of banker pawns as usual.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

You have an excuse for everything.

You want to deny your sock puppet just brought up your old asses thread?

The one where you blame the hypnotized for their induced behavior.

Right,........ and you picture yourself as a marketeer. An advertiser.

Those are the people and the behaviors YOU want to influence.

Just another bit of your hypocrisy.

[-] 1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

I brought that up. I posted on it. Because you brought it up, so give it another read and see if there are any valid points in there.

Lets not confuse me helping a few extremely small businesses with stuff from time to time with being some marketing firm. Trust me, Im WAY too broke for that. I grew up in construction, and still do it sometimes. Mainly painting, I enjoy painting.

That being said the marketing knowledge is good for actions and campaiging, obviously, which is where Ive been going with it since day one.

[-] -2 points by dflib (-11) 11 years ago

Yea..how dare they make government live within its means. Government should have the right to spend trillions..even it they don't have it. Dumb fucking liberals. Still can never quite grasp the concept of economics

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Hmmmm, the same idiotic argument.

The one that never goes away, no matter how many times it's proven that macro economics doesn't work ANYTHING at all like your checkbook.

Dumb fucking FLAKESnews flakes.

Can't conceive of a concept, and don't know they can't.

[-] -1 points by dflib (-11) 11 years ago

Yea..those economic riots in Europe are fake too. Their debt is meaningless too I suppose..

[-] 1 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

The phoney right wing, libertarian fear mongering propaganda of deficit/debt is just their 30 year plan to "starve the beast" & cut pgms that serve the 99%.

They should cut defense by 50%, All corp welfare, waste, fraud & abuse, and add some fin trans tax, equal tax on passive income, & a high billionaires tax.

When they support those steps I will believe them. Otherwise it is just bullshit political/economic class warfare against decent hardworking Americans.

[-] -2 points by dflib (-11) 11 years ago

This is why OWS is a total FAILURE. A collection of economic idiots. Praising Communism, as they watch it collapse in REAL time in Europe. Even Russia and China have seen the light of Capitalism and the free market. But asshole liberals would rather go back to the days of their hero Stalin

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

There's no such thing as a "free market"

It's an impossible illusion.

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

You clearly do not understand reality. Europe had socialist (not communist) governmental policies, China has embraced some elements of capitalism but has not abandoned communism.

My comments are not related to, or calling for Stalinistic communism. That's you dishonestly smearing the concept of balancing the budget on the wealthys back (not the poor & sick like you right wingers want).

try again liar.

[-] -1 points by dflib (-11) 11 years ago

Same thing..communism, / socialism. As if it fucking matters. Results the same. Grow government, punish achievement, everyone makes the same. Class warfare. Greece, Spain, Italy fucking BROKE and RIOTING ..under you beloved system

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

It IS the same but only to unsophisticated simpletons, and the only reason there are riots is because the P.I.G.S implemented austerity and tried to balance their budgets on the backs of the poor & sick. While the lazy, selfish, greedy, do nothing wealthy were left to live off of everyone elses work.

[-] -1 points by dflib (-11) 11 years ago

No dipshit... unsustainable entitlements...FREE everything doesn't work, when only a few are paying for it. Do you have a fucking CLUE what is going on there.?

Nope..didn't think think so. Try reading , or watching something other than Comedy Central as your news source

[-] 0 points by VQkag2 (16478) 11 years ago

The wealthy crashed the world economy. They have convinced half the 99% (repub voters) that it was the poor who did it but it was not.

It was the greedy, lazy, criminal, fat ass wealthy living off of govt subsidies and the hard work of decent working class.

Here and in europe. Same problem. Greedy, lazy, do nothing 1% corp oligarchs who stole govt resources, perpetrated a fraud, and a conm then took the biggest socialist bailout in human history.

Then they got ignorant people to complain about a few million dollars for poor and sick when they turn around and take a trillion dollars.

Are you a fuckin moron? These criminals have armies of lawyers, lobbyists, and accountants to screw the working class. You advocate against your own class for the criminals who still prey on your family.

You have no honor.
