hi guys! my name's Sally. i'm an "anarkette" from Seattle.

i quite OWS a few months ago. i was tired of long endless debates in GA, and felt that protesting was no longer what I wanted. i wanted to do something positive, create something new, not just complain that something from someone else was wrong.

i was lucky to come across the plan to build an edible forest in Seattle and have since devoted my energy to that. it's great, we are working together as a community to create something new which we can all benefit from. Free food! Good food! we don't waste time talking about politics and what a better world would be like, we just go ahead and create that better world for ourselves!

if you're around Seattle soon, come visit our edible forest and grab something to eat! it's free, for everyone. http://www.fastcoexist.com/1679420/coming-to-seattle-the-countrys-biggest-public-food-forest

Best of luck with your project, but I don't know if a food forest is going to stop any fascists.

It might feed them when they kill all of those who resist them.

As I recall, this is one of your favourites, yes?

I had never heard it before. Are you confusing me with someone else?

[-] 1 points by Renneye (3874) 9 years ago

Nope. Sorry...I'm not going there. I'm already gonna pay dearly tomorrow for staying up two hours past my bedtime.

So, how long do you think you'll last this time?

Goodnight 'J'! Goodnight Albert Duck!

If anyone should leave this place it's you. You sound exactly like that Thrasy troll. Some John guy from France I think. Horrible guy. Some kind of theatre prick or something. Always complaining about this forum, the moderation, jart, etc... He thinks he's some kind of fancy philosopher.

Well, I agree with DKAtoday. If you don't like the forum, just leave.

Stop trying to bring jart down. She did a lot for everyone here.

we all eat

yet so few are farmers

so we have a choice as a race to decide what to do with our extra time

[-] 1 points by cherokeenation (-1) from New York, NY 11 years ago

We don't like you, people who quit complaining and actually do something positive for change make us sad. You make us look like idiots who live in mom's basement who masturbate and eat twinkies all the time. We are serious class warriors who will change the world...right after this Star Trek rerun.

Free, free, free!! Just like the 60's!!....... Look how that turned out. But seriously, urban agriculture is a big undertaking but it is very slowly gaining ground. To the OP check out Will Allen on the Tavis Smiley show. He raises issues such as training, which isn't really cheap, paying agri-workers a decent wage and the health benefits of local argiculture. Allen is a leader in the field.

[-] 1 points by JPMcMahon (18) 11 years ago

I think urban gardens are one of the greatest thing to come out of "community activism" in the last 30 years or so. They provide a great place for people in the community in to meet others, get some good exercise in the sunshine, and end up with food and flowers. Other than the occasional asshole real estate people (and the University of California apparently) every one in town really likes them, or is at least ambivalent to them, so it is a good way to push sustainability and conservation in a real, three dimensional, "Look, we are really doing this thing here!" venue. I completely disagree with the idea that "training" is any kind of an issue. How much "training" do migrant farm workers get? The training is you get out there and start pulling weeds on your hands and knees, you dig, and you turn over compost with a pitchfork. Those three things are easily 75% of what goes on in the garden. As you work with other people who are really into gardening, of which there are many, you learn, and they are very happy to teach you, Expensive training? Ludicrous.

You have a point. You still need a few people that have extensive knowledge but for the rest it's simple work.

[-] 0 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

You might find this of some use. Will Allen in Milwaukee has been a leader in urban agriculture.

More subterfuge. Pretend to be an occupier and make them look silly. Nice try. Did you think we would not notice.

D'you reckon "quite OWS" - is the Freudian Slip of the month ?! verum ex absurdo ...

[-] 0 points by anarkette (24) from Boston, MA 11 years ago

I just had the idea that we could do an underwater edible food forest, with like seaweed and stuff!

[-] 4 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

Are you on drugs ?! As well meaning and 'sweet hearted' as you appear to be, the question still bears asking !! All the free food in the world ain't gonna overturn de facto "Fascist Bankster Occupation" !!!

When you express disdain for people who "just complain that something from someone else was wrong." - are you aware just how reactionary that sounds ? Please try to reflect that realising and "complaining" that something somewhere is Very Wrong - is an extremely important step towards Education ; Agitation & Organisation and getting together to change things.

I wish you well and every success with your 'under water' and 'above ground level' free food adventures and my tuppence worth of advice is directed towards 'funghi and mushrooms', a great, very varied and tasty source of protein and many other nutrients ( http://mushroominfo.com/ ).

Aw, come on now, Why do so many OWS’ers attack anything that doesn’t fit their exact view of the world. Sounds like to me this lady following her conscious and actually working on something. No reason to flame her for doing what she thinks is right. Far too many OWS folks are in attack mode toward people who are on their side. Give the lady a break.

[-] 4 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

I didn't "flame" or "attack" but made and explained 'counter-reactionary' arguments and even shared a couple of links in case she is genuine. Consider also that she probably doesn't need to be patronised by a Two-Faced, Disingenuous, Right-Wing Teabagger Reactionary (I know because we've crossed swords before ;-)

temet nosce ...

[-] 1 points by jbgramps (159) 11 years ago

Wow, that’s a lot of hate to carry around. If we’ve “crossed swords before” as you say then I don’t recall it. Me thinks you protest much. Lighten up. I’m not a troll or Tea Bagger; but I probably am a little reactionary. What’s wrong with that?

My point was that she has chosen a path and was getting slammed for it. It’s just that simple

[-] 4 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

Fairy Nuff 'gramps' ; I'm not really a hater though I can do a nice line in 'grumpy' !

We'll agree to disagree but consider that when she says "we don't waste time talking about politics", then that is just the kind of 'head in the sand' type, 'disengagement thinking' that TPTB really like to encourage, cultivate and instil in the 99% !!

"It's just that simple really" !!!

Are you under a bot attack too shadz?

It would appear that you are.

[-] 4 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

I'm not really sure 'shooz' but IF we are, then I am and I say "To Hell with Trolls and their Troll-Bots and f--k 'em" !! I also question the existence and effectiveness if not the 'bona fides' of the forum-mods !!!

ad iudicium ...

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 11 years ago

ps : I see your point and see that I am under Iron Butt Blues / Trashy BOT attention as per my reply to JC above and my best guess is that someone is trawling the forum on 'comments' option and explicitly manifesting their inner reactionary ; doing the bidding of Their Corporate Overlords &/or acting on a deep seated grudge !!!

I think a bunch of us are, me included.

http://occupywallst.org/forum/obama-supporter-purge-initiated-by-ows-bots/

Notice even the replies on THAT thread were made to collapse. It is a troll pretending to be a moderator.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

is it trying to guild conversation ?

[-] 4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

It's a mindless bot Matt.

It just doesn't like some of us........:(

Say something against (R)epelican'ts and you too could be on that list.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

the cross section might be

the number on the list compared to the number of list I'm on

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I think you've made the list too.....:)

[-] 3 points by epa1nter (4650) from Rutherford, NJ 11 years ago

He is trying to CONTROL conversation, not simply guide it. He is an autocrat posing as an anarchist. Note that even this part of this thread has been collapsed. He is attacking specific people.

[-] 0 points by jbgramps (159) 11 years ago

Agree to disagree is a good thing. Much better than all the flame wars we see. The trolls have everyone a little edgy. Be well my friend.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

flame war <> incongruent perspectives

[-] 2 points by epa1nter (4650) from Rutherford, NJ 11 years ago

I think it's a great idea, but there is no need to denigrate OWS because you have found your own way to contribute.

I had two ways to contribute, mostly. For 20 years I organized places I worked in to join unions, since labor fairness was something I was passionate about, and I also was a teacher for 15 years, working almost for free in order to help immigrant kids get into college.

But I still support OWS, and, although it is doing something very different from what I was doing, I welcome it wholeheartedly. As a movement, it is long overdue.
