Today across NYC, fast food workers walked off the job and joined festive picket lines, calling for a living wage, fair working conditions, and a union. You can find out more, including how to support their efforts, at Fastfoodforward.org. For live updates on Twitter, use #fastfoodfwd. Also, today at 4pm, join us for a rally in Times Square to show support in person!
From Walmart to fast food, low wage workers are standing up and demanding more!
Today, NYC fast food workers from dozens of stores, including McDonald’s, Burger King, Domino’s, KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Papa John’s are walking out, in a historic one day strike for a fair unionization process, decent wages, reasonable scheduling, paid sick days and an end to retaliation.
Organizers from New York Communities for Change have been meeting with workers for months, and now workers are standing up and demanding respect at their jobs.
Put these multi-billion dollar corportations on notice: these workers do not stand alone.
Thursday, Nov. 29th
4:00 pm Rally at the Times Square McDonald's
220 West 42nd Street (between 7th & 8th Ave.)Friday, Nov. 30th
Show solidarity with striking workers as they go back to for work. Collective action is protected under U.S. labor law, and the workers are asking the community to be on-site at fast food locations around the city to support them as they return to the job.Sign up for a shift on Friday by RSVPing to gfries@unitedny.org. Two shifts are available: 5:30am-8:30am and 9:30am-12:30pm. Meet-up locations are all over the city, including Manhattan (310 W. 43rd St.) and Brooklyn (2-4 Nevins).
A living wage is one of the central things we need to accomplish. There is no humanity in an economic system that allows full time workers to live in poverty. We must end the exploitation of workers by corporations whose profits are at an all time high. How we value labor must be changed drastically and profits must be made subordinate to the well being of people.
The movement is still fighting.

This agreement to talk is slow progress and possible victory. Keep up the pressure.
'How we value labor must be changed drastically and profits must be made subordinate to the well being of people.' - from beautifulworld's excellent comment on this thread. Thank you for your interesting links and also see - http://occupywallst.org/article/mobilize-striking-fast-food-workers/#comments Never Give Up! Keep Occupying Solidarity!!

Put 'the movement' back in The Labor Movement - http://www.labornotes.org/ ! Thank you for yet another excellent link and I'll also quote BW with - 'There is no humanity in an economic system that allows full time workers to live in poverty. We must end the exploitation of workers by corporations whose profits are at an all time high.' Never Give Up Striving For A 'BW' For All! Occupy Wall Street! Solidarity.
For 30 years we were fed the disaster that the service economy is the future and accepted the below poverty level wages.
Time to correct that injustice. Last week I protested with fast foodworkers demanding $15 hr wages. I've seen occupy, & Sen Warren call for $20hr wages.
Some increaseis comin but it won't be enough so much work lays ahead of us.
'A living wage is one of the central things we need to accomplish.' and thereby also completes my full quotation of BW's comment on this thread! Contrast the OP with - http://www.nationofchange.org/where-s-cop-wall-street-beat-1365599175 Never Give Up Striving For A More Just Society! Occupy Solidarity! :)

If the American people ever came together and that is a big if.We could boycott one large bank one fast food factory one box store one oil company .Than change might begin.I do not see this happening because human nature is selfish and corporations use our stupidity against us.
Action Alert We are still marching for workers.

Organize in your city.
Thanks.I will be gettin the boot shortly. The Queen of Occupi has determined that I must go.
Have you misbehaved.?
I just do not think people should be allowed to call others names. Our self appointed Queen does this on a regular basis when people have a differnt opinion. So no more than she has.
I have found that name calling is allowed in the name of respecting free speech.
REALLY ?
Seems you have difficulty in comprehension of your own actions - Hey?
No I know what my actions are.I also know that this has been a pattern.I also know that I do not follow the rules of a self imposed Queen/dictator.Ithought Occupy was against that.I noticed that if an opinion was not in line with what the pig belived that person is a target.I myself have been union for close to forty years. Therefore I can not stand any selfimportant person.Everyone should have a voice without having to be called names etc.I know what my actions are.I also know that I would get the boot out.Fact is this person does the same thing and does not.So we call those people Pigs.
So - how many times to date have you been booted? You do realize that this is a pro OWS OCCUPY site? And That would mean that attackers would be given a very dim view and an escort to the door?
I realize that I never attacked Occupy.I realize that I have very progressive views on most subjects.I realize that I do not have to follow the rules of a self imposed Queen.I realize that when people attack me I will refrain. But for only so long.I have been to the marches when in the city.I also realized I would get the boot. Not to big a deal for calling a sow a sow.
Still here ? Wow - no fickle finger of fate has smite'd you as of yet?
