OCCUPY DC BEING EVICTED NOW

Posted 2 years ago on Feb. 4, 2012, 5:18 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

ODC EVICTION

As daylight broke this morning around 5:40am, helmeted and armed mobs of U.S. Park Police – some wearing unnecessary hazmat suits, backed up by dump trucks and riot police on horeseback – moved to forcibly dismantle tents and other infrastructure at McPherson Square in Washington DC, where Occupy DC on K Street has called home and provided for the needs of one another and the public since October 1st. All in DC are encouraged to go to McPherson to show support. Outside DC, if you don't like what the National Park Service is doing, call and let them know at 202.485.9880!

Follow #OccupyDC, @OccupyKSt for live updates via Twitter.

Live Updates

  • 7:30: As cold rain sets in, now-homeless protesters vow to hold General Assembly tomorrow and regroup in spite of having had their homes destroyed by police. Reports of tasering and others beaten by batons throughout the day. Solidarity demos have begun in other cities, including Oakland. Via @Sara Jeans:

"This will not kill #occupydc. We may not be there tonight but we are planning & will come back stronger"

  • 7:00: via @Re_Occupy: "Park Police took tents and sleeping bags on a cold, rainy night. Local hospital has volunteered to take in 20 people."

  • 5:00: Police still cordoning off the park with metal barricades, inspecting each one-by-one, seizing Occupier's personal belongings and putting them in trash bags.
  • 4:20: Standoff growing in NW part of McPherson, where large crowd has grown. Riot police and SWAT teams sporting assault rifles and rubber-bullet guns. Using forklifts, police have torn down tents, even those that complied with their baseless "no sleeping" rules. Total arrests up to 8. Occupiers are being kept behind barricades, force to watch as their homes are ripped apart and demolished. As tweeted by OccupyKSt:

Many of our occupiers now homeless in freezing rain. You say park isn't our home? Its the only one many of us have.

  • 4:00: Police have started dismantling again. Legal observers report being assaulted by police.
  • 3:00: Large crowd has gathered. Police appear to be waiting for people to leave before dismantling remainder of camp.
  • 2:00: Crowds have gathered around the library to defend it from police destruction. Police say they are searching tents individually for "camping gear" and not allowing any observers while doing "initial sweep.
  • 1:00: 8 hours into the eviction, police continue to mull through and dismantle Occupier's tents, ripping apart the homes of ODC campers. Total of arrests now at 6, one person reportedly tazered and others hit with batons.
  • 12:30: Another arrest has happened after someone attempted to jump the barrier and was attacked by park police. Cops on horseback returned, others have gotten out their shields and assumed riot positioning. According to twitter reports, majority of Park Police either not wearing or obscuring their badge numbers. Have also threatened to use tasers.
  • 12:00: Police have surrounded the park with netting, ripped out the "occutree", torn down the Tent of Dreams, and is wholesale throwing tents, tarps, etc in the trash.
  • 11:00am: At least four arrests have been reported. All have been since released. Although police claiming they are only enforcing "camping ban", they appear to be wantonly destroying non-camping supplies as seen on livestream.

Why don't they focus on the poverty, poor education system and high unemployment in D.C. rather than Americans protesting peacefully? What's up with that?

[-] 5 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 2 years ago

They are on a mission to stamp this movement out; orders from the top.

[-] 9 points by beautifulworld (22233) 2 years ago

Too bad it won't work. This movement has roots far and deep.

[-] 4 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 2 years ago

You mean orders from the Corporations?

That is who is currently on top and ruining this country and world.

Corporations and Fossil fuel, working for your extinction.

You hit the hammer on the nail. She would never do anything to harm any one, that is how she keeps her nose clean, but she expects to get what she wants and doesn't care how she gets it and who dies in the process and of course she got the Popes blessing. The witch hunt never ended we just call them terrorists nowadays. Our military are her guard dogs and that is just how she see's them, dog's whom she throws a treat to keep them happy and loyal little dogs. Nothing on this planet will ever justify killing unless its in self defense. Like it or not our man and woman in the military have been trained to kill or be killed and for what? And then we honor our war heroes, people who kill. We are sick in the head and need all the help we can get to function like a normal human being again. Is it any wonder our soldier's come back home and commit suicide because they begin to realize they been lied to and killed people who never done anything to them simply by following orders without questening. There is a good reason why colleges have banned army recruiters from their campus. We got things in mind for them and we need them alive not in body bags, crippled up and mentally disturbed winding up committing suicide.

[-] 1 points by sufinaga (513) 2 years ago

wonderful humanity! this is the bleeding heart! our wounded soldiers! our wounded ancestors from the world wars just to maintain her evil empire. gw bush is her cousin! his grandads prescott bush and george herbert walker started WW2 by financing hitler's german economic miracle and building his war machine. how many more wars and crippled boys will be returning to our streets. how long do we have to suffer. that burning anger will rise up in the youth and they will bring the war home where it belongs! we are reincarnating souls from these atrocities. they stole the land and move us on. move along get along and SMASH THE SYSTEM of BS. our wounded soldiers are not heroes they are victims. beware of corporate freemasons who preach war for economic or national reasons. beware of corporate christians who preach religious wars. THOU SHALT NOT KILL. just obey the fucking commandment AOs!!!!

$1.2 Billion is small change as compared to the "gifts" for those whose duty it is to prosecute, it would seem.

[-] -1 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

How is throwing a brick at law enforcement considered "peaceful?" You're going to get as good as you give. Throw a bricked and get your skull cracked open. Sounds fair to me. Now, go ahead and claim a nonoccupier threw the brick from your midst, it doesn't matter. After enough blows to the head, I'm sure you idiots will figure out that the cops are 99%ers too, and they're just doing their job to stop the violence you've started. LOL. Keep it up. I can't wait to see the REAL violence that you keep meowing about, but never seem to accomplish......idiot occupiers.

[-] 1 points by Frylock (3) 2 years ago

No brick was thrown. Those media reports were wrong. No police report from the day mentioned anything about a brick.

[-] 6 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

The People "are" The Union. The Union of the United States of America.

The Corporations, WallStreet, Banks, Fossil Fuel are illegally using "our" government to bust "OUR UNION" = The United States of America.

[-] 3 points by cJessgo (729) from Port Jervis, PA 2 years ago

Yep

[-] 5 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Rape, Pillage and Plunder. That is the MODUS OPERANDI of Rampaging WallStreet, Multibillion Dollar Corporations and Fossil Fuel, Corporate Banks, Corporate Insurance, Corporate Health Providers etc etc.

This is their successful ( so far ) revolution ( coup ) and capture of our government.

This is why the "PEOPLES" revolution has begun. For the health and prosperity of "ALL".

[-] 5 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

It's the attack of the Marshmallow Peep's and the POP-N-Fresh clans.

Your government ( ? ) corporate voice at work, again using public funds and resources.

Shutting down the right to protest, in the City built from revolution and the peoples voice originally in defense of free speech and proper representation.

[-] -2 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

The occupiers and their myramid of messages DON'T REPRESENT ME and I don't condone the violence and illegality of your 'protests.' You are interferring with commerce and negatively impacting the 99%ers, but you are too blind and white hot angry in your little protest to see the damage you're causing. America wants you to go away. You are not America. You are going to go away.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

The only violence and destruction handed out at the DC eviction was by the Parks Police. Send your complaint there.

Occupy and 99% have done an amazing job at remaining peaceful and in promoting peaceful protest.

You have a very skewed or misinformed perspective.

[-] -3 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

I just watched the video! The profanity shouted into the faces of our brave law enforcement was accredited to the protesters! Admit that you are a bunch of idiotic and angry jealous ilk!

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Admit that you are an idiot.

Angry ? YES I will admit to that!

Disgusted? I will admit to that!

Jealous? Of What? Being Corrupt and Greedy? Nope sorry does not wash.

OH and By The Way. The profanity shouting started when the Police started destroying property they said that they would leave alone.

What do You do when someone lies to you then steals your property and destroys it? Shout out Thank You? and Please come Again? Somehow I think not.

[-] 0 points by dantes443322 (148) 2 years ago

No. You bash the police in the face with a brick. Because, you know, nonviolence and all.

"Nope sorry does not wash."

LMFAO! No shit. That is why they needed hazmat suits to clean out the scum.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Good thing that you were not there. They might have tried throwing you away. Toxic shit spreader!

[-] 0 points by dantes443322 (148) 2 years ago

No, I wasn't there. I am a couple of blocks up by Dupont circle working. But if you are there, can you thank them for not disrupting the majority of the city. My commute hasn't been effected at all. Thx.

And why they hell did the cover up the Gen. McPherson statue?

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

So pleased for you. Wouldn't want you to feel any discomfort in your denial of truth and the fight for justice.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Not a problem.

[-] 1 points by Frylock (3) 2 years ago

There was no brick. Those media reports were wrong.

[-] -2 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

They asked you to leave. You didn't. You don't own the park, taxpayers do and the rules are: no one lives in the park, save for the squirrels. Unless you're a squirrel, your property is there illegally, as are you. How do you apply some laws to yourself, but not all of them? Cherry picking must be such a relief to weak-minded people who want a gold star just for participating. The real world isn't going to give you a gold star. They're going to ask you to get the hell off of land you have NO RIGHT TO SQUAT ON, and then you are going to see what CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING LAWS ARE. Grow the F up! Fight with cops, and the law entitles them to fight you back.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Wrong OH misguided one. We are the Public as well. We are citizens. To say that those who are unemployed have no right because they are not currently paying taxes is so disturbingly wrong of you.

You Grow The F up!

No one was fighting the cops - Dick Head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No need to respond to people like this my friend. There's so many things that give me joy in life. A wee part of that is to see people like "grumpy" continue to come to this forum and comment, as if it's going to make one spot of a difference. I can see it now: Newsflash: World Occupy Movement permanently shut down by intelligent, forward-thinking commentary by Grumpy. Stay tuned. More at 11....

But hey, that's the beauty of freedom of speech. We can choose to do as we wish. In the meantime, I still enjoy watching the futility. So keep in coming brother, love it! Really!!

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Well there are differing perspectives on everything. I myself enjoy smacking the misbehaving on the nose with a news paper. It can be fun for all, but is also in line with not sparing the rod so as not to spoil the child. Who knows some people need this kind of confrontation to spur them on to really think about their position.

[-] -1 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

I'm not going to shut you down. DHS is. Protest them if you have the balls you claim to. Nope. Not going to happen, is it?

[-] 0 points by dantes443322 (148) 2 years ago

Yeah, those bricks flew by themselves!

This is the culture of coddling and you're special! come to a head.

You are not owed anything! Student debt...f it. You signed the contract. House going under...you signed the contract. I know your parents didn't tell you...but YOU are responsible for YOU. Nobody else. You're not always going to be a winner. There isn't a prize for coming in halfway. You're not going to get paid just because 'you tried.'

[-] 1 points by Frylock (3) 2 years ago

There were corporate media (Washington Post) reports of a thrown brick. The report turned out to be false. No police reports from the day mentioned any bricks.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Flying Bricks in DC? Show me! Corporate Media would have covered that all day in living HD color with slow motion replay.

Refresh your talking points and try to come up with something that might be able to be spun to reflect reality.

No one is claiming to be owed anything other than truth justice and the American way. Not Spin Abuse and the Corporate way.

Go try blind marching somewhere else, it does not fly here!

[-] 0 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

DKAtoday - since when are your comments regarding corporate media worth more than the human feces you roll around in? LOL, you're NOT COVERED because YOUR MOVEMENT IS DEAD. A tampon commercial is aired more often than the antics of some mathmatically-challenged larcenists!

When will they learn eviction won't stop OWS? They are just giving themselves negative media.

[-] 1 points by GarnetMoon (424) 2 years ago

Yes, I hope you are right but unfortunately the media has stopped reporting OWS events with the exception of a passing mention. We need to come back stronger and scarier; that is scarier to the 1% and strong enough so that it will be harder if not impossible to disable us. The fight goes on!

[-] -1 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

America is tired of the mixed bag of messages and temper tantrums OWS keeps displaying. When the residents of Oakland are fed up (as broadcast on last night's news), then you know you're in trouble. ANd OWS is in serious trouble. No, go ahead and endorse your king obama, so the real people of this country and get on with business. Occupiers - you have eyes to see, but everything you see is NOT YOURS. Stop your jealous little tirade and wake up. You're trying to dampen the spirit of America that drives 100% of its citizens. If you want money - work for it, dumbashes.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Let us also not forget the pronounced absence of Corporate media. Their only mention of Occupy and 99% is negative and brief. Very sparse to non-existent coverage in a concerted effort to keep a lid on the movements and to hide wide spread support and involvement of the people. People showing united dissent of how this country has been subverted from it's foundational precepts.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Absence of Main Stream Media. Not covering social unrest in our own country. Is fast becoming the joke of the world. Hypocrisy by inaction. I just can't wait to see the fallout come back and bite them in the ass again and again and again. What a farce.

They probably hope that if they stop giving these kids the attention they so desperately crave that they will get bored and go home. Its a good tactic. When if comes to dealing with these type of people, it usually works. Add that in with some simple upholding of the law and it seems to be working very well.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

You Wish.

[-] -1 points by Gileos (309) 2 years ago

Maybe i do but maybe i dont. Either way i answered your question honestly so dont be a smartass.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

If the intent of the comment deserves it, I can reply how I wish.

Occupy & 99% are not going away. They are not all kids either. They are people from all walks of life and experience.

So I take your comment as being one of a smart ass type, more than my reply to it.

I know alot of grown up kids, not much difference only age.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (22315) from Coon Rapids, MN 2 years ago

Maturity needs guidance more often than not.

My heart and soul are with you - we, the 99% will not give up - the selfish 1 % will pay up to help people in need .......

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 2 years ago

Look, you can't evict an idea.  Despite all the noise to the contrary (some of it the product of an organized paid effort) people in the U.S. know exactly what Occupy Movement stands for:  getting the money out of politics and correcting the dramatic and widening the enormous income disparity in this nation.   Just like in South Africa with Mandela, just like India with Gandhi and just like the U.S. with Martin Luther King, Jr., this house of cards with the few ruling over the many can't stand.  The smart among the 1% know this all too well and are preparing to / offering to give up some of their wealth in the name of economic fairness.

You can't evict an idea, especially an idea whose time has come.  As someone who used to work on Capitol Hill and has recently spent time with half a dozen members of congress, I am well aware of the reality that is setting in in DC:   This situation where Citizens United supreme court decision allows corporations to buy elections WILL NOT STAND.   Make no mistake:  a constitutional amendment effectively overturning Citizens United supreme court decision will be passed.

DC officials are making an enormous tactical error giving into weak but vocal republican whining about people camping in the park.  For every protester they push out, ten or a hundred more will take their place this spring.   If they wish to poke at the hornets nest, they can.  But they should look to the history of the civil rights movement and Gandhi's success in India to understand the sting this beautiful collective of nonviolent bees will have.

So, to those controlling the decision-making here, I say "Go ahead and piss members of the movement off more.  It only makes us stronger.  The more middle America sees its kids being pushed around for nonviolently demanding the government be accountable to its people instead of corporations, the stronger the movement gets.  The nonviolent direct action this spring will overwhelm you with its power and force.  We know you have no idea what to do with non-violence and that is why we will most certainly prevail."

This isn't about overthrowing a government.   Occupiers love this country.  This is about restoring this country by removing the corporate terrorists who have hijacked our government.  Make no mistake.  We will remain nonviolent.  And we will restore the power of one person one vote.  We are the 99% and we're not going anywhere.  The 1% will be treated with love and respect but they also will no longer be permitted to rule selfishly.  This house of cards is about to come down as a result of nonviolent tactical actions.

Occupy DC, stay strong as an organization.  The nonviolent cavalry is coming.  As Martin Luther King, Jr. Said so eloquently, "Truth crushed to earth rises up."

Corpopolitical contractors.  Do what you will.  Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.  Nothing.   As Breyton Breytonbach said before being sentenced to prison for his nonviolent protest activities: "Whether we win or whether we die, freedom will rise like the sun through the morning clouds."

[-] 0 points by Gileos (309) 2 years ago

No man... most of America are starting to see you for what you are. A decent movement with a decent cause that got hijacked by a bunch of sorry ass kids wanting a free ride and some good times. Just look at them taunting the cops and pushing on the barricades. I feel bad for our law enforcement having to deal with this bullcrap. Go get a job and vote, quit tryin to live off me.

Shame the Police Politely. But with reality.

Parody the police wearing blindfolds and marching. Parody corporations guiding/directing them in their blind march. Parody the Justice department also wearing blindfolds and being led/directed by corporations to direct the police blindly.

Parody Main Stream Media covering the event with lens capped cameras.

OCCUPY DC for the Summer of 2012 we need 10 million to Occupy DC all summer take part demand Our Government to follow through and completely change our financial system for the betterment of the entire society. Is Regulation Good or Bad? When it comes to protecting our economy from Wall Street Corruption the S.E.C. should have done its job...but it failed under Bush and again under Obama....make sure the S.E.C. regulates for corruption, why? to protect savings and retirement accounts, mutual funds, institutional accounts, and sovereign investments in the market. Re-enact Glass Steagall. Remember here Clinton signed the death to Glass Steagall ....the bill to destroy it brought to the floor by Gramm of Texas and the Bush Family...Gramm had voted for Impeaching Clinton, voting Guilty, just 8 months earlier, now Clinton is selling out the Security of Our Entire Financial System to those that voted for Impeachment? Did Clinton sale his sole? And were the American People sold out by Clinton, the answer is YES. Really you say?! Was Clinton paid off by Goldman-Sachs a company he would work for, after his Retirement from the Presidency, just a year later. Watch the video of the signing of the destruction of Glass-Steagall, here you see Gramm of Texas acting as Caesar not Clinton.... that footage tells the story. Those that voted for Impeachment winning in the end. So we have to protect our financial system from Wall Street, for Wall Street has proven time and time again it will destroy out entire economy if left unregulated for fraud and corruption. Destroying the US Economy 13yrs out of the last 30yrs. Regulate Wall Street for Corruption, is NOW completed! Regulate the Energy System so that companies and the consumer benefit in a balanced way.....and not through higher oil prices because of needless wars which always raise oil prices, ( the Bush Family does this all the time every time) but clean energy planning and follow through. We need to regulate Oil, Coal and Gas prices to protect the consumer and the companies, who would be other wise tempted by the Bush Family and their needless wars. Regulate in a fair profit for those Companies and all other Energy Companies so they may explore and develop new and cleaner systems. With fair but higher oil and energy prices the consumer would make better decisions when buying autos or when they improve their homes for energy outlook. An unbalanced approach that is against energy companies will not work, we must be clear on that. They have been a part of the US economy for over a 100 yrs and employ millions of US citizens, paying good wages and benefits for decades,so we must allow them to profit fairly, but through fair regulation and stable pricing. Energy is a National case as is Finance and Corruption. All other Developed Nations do just this....it absolutely works correctly! 1. So we have Wall Street looked after..it is a safer investment for all! 2. We have the Energy System in order and protected with fair and stable pricing established by business plans and oversight by the GAO. 3. We must now go after Public Corruption at all level: City, State and National.....commit the crimes do the Time! Whether it is a Mayor, a Judge or a Congressman or even the President. 4. Next a completely new Financial System A. 1st paying off the National Debt in 10 yrs through Tolls on all Freeways (Road) Systems, all 46,000 miles...we can not afford the word free....we must pay off the national debt and with it add a mil tax to the Energy Supply systems ( a new National Energy Plan ) working with regional and or national suppliers, and add a mil tax to the electrical grid as well. Within 10 yrs the National debt is paid off in Full. B. Eliminate Income Taxes altogether?! Apply a Consumption Tax on a graduated scale, instead of the Federal Reserve faking it as it is doing now:

lending to banks so they can buy National Debt Paper < C. The National Government provides needed capital to Cities, Counties and States, (not a loan!!) based upon their ( city county & states) developed Business Plans in order to reach the appropriate level of growth or true GDP. Say it is 4% growth...and the town or state is growing at 3.2% the Federal Government provides the capital for growth as long as it is established through an annual Business Plan which is regulated for Follow Through by the NEW ..IRS and the GAO. Each Government is checked for follow through, waste and corruption, employee hiring is on freeze at all levels until the waste is disguarded. If a government: city, county or state fails to correctly follow its Business Plan the Government Management is forced to resign at once and an election is held. Corruption has set penalties of 12 to 25 years minimum. This is for elected, appointed or hired officials, contractors and subs. Commit the crime do the Time! ONLY through managed growth and regulation will the over all economy grow stable at 4.5 to 5.5% GDP......creating new jobs, upper end jobs, needed to support the coming Baby Boomer income collapse....again caused in large part by Wall Street Corruption especially Goldman-Sachs and the Bush Family collapsing the US Economy 13 yrs out of the last 30 yrs, destroying retirement funds and savings accounts in to the trillions of dollars, while at the same time China has seen steady growth at between 8% to 10% GDP, yes no economic collapse for 30 yrs. Managed growth will see the USA be able to compete on a Global scale with out Debt. If it is not managed and regulated...meaning to stop corruption, the USA will never again see the middle class grow, educate its youth to deal with global competition or be able to deal with the Baby Boomer's coming retirement fund collapse, let alone pay off the national debt and Wall Street left unregulated will again collapse the US Economy. What that means in real terms is Government bankruptcy....because Occupiers we the USA is really now Bankrupt, because without borrowing 40 cent of every dollar needed to run the Government and its programs the Government would be bankrupt..Period. You can not cut spending buy 40%. America is going nowhere if we do not completely change our financial system NOW. D. Now with regards to illegal aliens....30 million from eastern Europe and south of the border....now reaching 30 yrs old, 40 yrs old and 50 yrs old, these individuals can not currently buy homes, condos, apartments, that's at least 7 to 10 million units: houses, condos and apartments. To start the home buying process they must become legal citizens. All of their money now goes out of the USA where they can buy and or build their own home. We are killing ourselves economically by not allowing them full citizenship actually dual - Citizenship. We are by all accounts losing $250 billion in new construction right now, $100 plus billion in new home furnishings, billions and billions more in property taxes......Illegals have grown up, they are not 20 yrs old any more, they want what everyone else wants: a home to call their own.....this has to come about NOW! Now we have construction workers back at work by the millions, home sales begin to grow, everyone is legal, Wall Street grows with it, energy grows with it, Our youth can afford to be higher educated whether through trade schools, universities or community colleges, they can find jobs after school and after graduation. America is solid we have Our Future back and we can deal with the 66 million baby boomers out of 76 million who do not have enough money put away for full retirement or the full length of their retirement.... IF we do not move on these points baby boomers to the youth of America will be living in poverty with in 6 to 10 years...that is over 50% of the US population living in complete poverty within 6 to 10 yrs. NOT MAYBE this WILL Take Place absolutely....Just do the Math! We must move the County and our Communities forward NOW, there is no time left for further disagreement. I believe in Capitalism if it is managed correctly and honestly! I believe in Democracy and in the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights I believe in America, the Majority must take control NOW! OWH supporters...This is all part ot the future of the Occupy movement. We now shall move closer to the gates of the White House. We are preparing for this move as a write as our lawyers are regaining our property, and freeing the few brothers and sisters that were detained. OWH is now in full swing. We now tell this President and illegal congress that they are only guests in our house and we evict them. This is our message going forward. Start photographing the high-priced call girls driving in expensive cars going to meet their johns paid for by our tax dollars. Washington is full of them. Easy to spot: young vulgarly dressed women alone or in pairs in $100,000 cars. Google Washington "Escort Service." Your tax dollars at work.

[-] 1 points by Lois68 (7) 2 years ago

Drive around Washington at night and what do you see? Young women wearing too much makeup and hairspray in $100,000 cars. They are hookers paid for by our tax dollars. Congress is a bunch of lobbyist whores.

While this article is on the whole convincing, and demonstrates that OWS has a strong spirit at its core, it also seems a little too happy-go-lucky. As a movement we have to face the fact that our numbers have in fact been dwindling drastically. We have to ask ourselves why this is--What is preventing us from sustaining the interest of the 99%? Every march I've been to since the eviction has been poorly attended. It would be far more productive to ask ourselves why this is than to pretend nothing is wrong within the movement.

Beautifulworld That is an excellent question...when you turn on the TV, the media is gushing about how the unemployment rate is down, American's are going back to work while our government just borrowed 1.2 trillion of our dollars. So, being sheep, we are supposed to take our credit cards (outside of my debit card , everything was cut up January 1st) and go and spend like crazy people, making ourselves go further into debit and make the PR machine further pump along. The economy will be stimulated on our backs, the 1% will be richer and we will be mired in debt.. There are no poor, there is no problem with education or the middle class...everything is fine...look at the media I do not condone nor believe in violence, I do believe in self and personal responsibility. Have a self movement first, help yourself, help a kid not take out student loans...you will prevent students in the future not being poor and slaves to the system.

I think of it as they are being sent about through the land to preach the Gospel of revolution.

[-] 0 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

And, just like the disciplies - they will be slaughtered. There is no cospel of revolution, nor is there a fairytale of war.

Funny how our true cowards hide behind bushes in parks and spout off such courage and violence. That's OWS. Cowards crouching behind bushes and using their infants as human shields.

America has a long history of heroic Dissent. It also has a long history of true cowards.People that enjoy comfort more than a sense of morality. People who would hide behind false ideas and listen to what is pleasing Fox viewers for instance. True cowards who hated an edd to slavery.True Cowards who hate the peoples right to assemble.True cowards who love it when the state represses dissent. True cowards who fear unions and the peoples right to organize ,Yes the list is as endless as there are Cowards!

The American people have become fair game because we have turned our backs on our own in favor of money and God. Take a good look at the poor, lazy, homeless, we all have helped to put them there because we were either chasing the money or paying lip service to a God we have dreamed up ourselves because it became a handy tool to use. Everybody had a hand in it and they better damn well know it. We are either all innocent or all guilty. What man can conceive man can achieve. Don't worry OWS we will have a healthy society again. Suppressing science is the dumbest thing we ever done and its biting us in the butt. God or Jesus is simply not the right answer. It has worked in the past only through brutal force and bribery which is still being used, the lazy way out yo solve problems at hand. Between what we believe and what actually is lays a uncovered world. that is yet to be known. Believes are just placeholders to keep things for safe keeping, it doesn't make it true or false, its just a belief. Whatever truth there may be is just a popularity contest. Whoever gives the best convincing evidence its who we go with. Science still has the best because we became scientists when we discovered fire. I'm tired seeing good scientist being demonized without public opinion. Everything that was good for us is now being banned. When 10 people die from a new drug we outlaw it regardless by the thousands of life's it has saved, all determined by a handful of people who know next to nothing about how nature works. We can't have a healthy well educated societ because it would brake those who want to stay in control. We want more choices and those who make laws for us to lead by example or be gone.

[-] -1 points by Gileos (309) 2 years ago

What a crock. Do you know how much money this country gives out in entitlements? Do you know how much in charitible contributions these saurondevilslordvaldamort 1%ers give? I did not think so. We give more money to poor people then you can imagine. Some of them get back on their feet and start supporting themselves, some do not and just continue to live on the dole, mostly surprisingly well i might add. And some realize they can get attention and are used as pawns for the very thing they seem to be protesting. Then they taunt and antagonize cops who are only doing their job, forcing them into a confrontatiin so they can cry about it and get more attention.

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 2 years ago

Maybe if you paid your gov't tab, it is kinda an embarrassment to our whole nation, we'd go about our business. Or maybe better yet if you would create some jobs, you dirty bum, and pay a living wage the rest of us could start paying that tab we uncured bailing out your personal piggy banks. Either way get off your high horse and start paying your national debt.

[-] 0 points by Gileos (309) 2 years ago

Why are the hazard suits necessary? Are the Occupiers diseased? Or are the suits necessary to illustrate them as such when the footage shows up in news media?

Or maybe people are just that paranoid? Or maybe that's just standard practice?

I find it encouraging that municipalities continue to feel it necessary to evict encampments. Whether they feel threatened or just annoyed, they are nevertheless being impacted.

[-] 3 points by gabzgrl (7) from Bayonne, NJ 2 years ago

I went to the Free Bradley Manning protest in Virginia. There were about 14 to 20 protesters and 3-4 times as many police in full out riot gear. We were supposed to put flowers on the memorial for veterans, but at last minute they put a fence in front of the PUBLIC memorial so that protesters couldn't even put flowers on the opening to the base. People were angry and it was incited by the police who were there to humiliate and intimidate people. I think it's good that people are out finally being heard! I went to many protests in freezing cold weather during George W. Bush's "reign" they reported 10's of thousands when there were about 200,000 or more people. The Daily Show protest was a distraction, I think.

[-] 0 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

You weren't there to put flowers on veteran's memorials, you were there to show the ultimate disrespect for brave souls who died for your idiocy. The police did the right thing to keep you from defacing the memorial. Try dying for our country instead of poisoning it!

Like I said above, it brings a smile to my face to see someone so passionate about the opposite of everything Occupy stands for spending so much of his free time/life commenting here. The more he comments, the more of his precious free time on earth is spent in futility, and the more we smile with compassion for him. Again, keep it coming brother!

@illusion - you just keep smiling, that will serve you well in jail. I'm not a man, I'm a woman. Your read on people is as unastute as your ridiculous trouble-making 'revolution'. The solution is simple. Pay for what you buy. That's what America is wondering, ... why were you never taught about pink piggy banks? Idiots.

[-] 0 points by gabzgrl (7) from Bayonne, NJ 2 years ago

You may not be informed, and I will not react in anger to this assumption. While democracy is a beautiful idea, spreading false "democracy" in order to steal resources and control the world is poisoning the entire planet. The soldiers are brave, but they are fighting for the wrong reasons. I am a lover of mankind, and of the people here. What happened to the idea of not hurting others, what happened to do not covet they neighbor, turn the other cheek? What happened to peace instead of murder? This is why I support occupy.

An Occupier took a stroll down his neighborhood street looking for fellow protestors who call them selves the 99%. He decided to knock on ten doors and welcome them to go and observe a 15 minute presentation of OWS and their agenda for the months ahead. After visiting the houses the occupier left alone for the meeting, 100% sure they would need to adjust their number, you see the 99% of who identify themselves in line with OWS are less than 1% of the Nation because those who truly seek the facts can do so, and the writing on the wall reads - Take responsibility for you first before you try and speak for the rest who already have.

[-] 0 points by grumpy2 (-9) from Bernards, NJ 2 years ago

After watching a very entertaining video, I want to see more. Specifically, I want to see more occupiers get educated on the law, how to walk, and how to step over a chain. Occupiers seem to have regressed into sniveling children and should be treated as such. More video! I want to see some occupier's heads cracked open in return for the violence they exact upon our law enforcement and NPS. When they say turn around and move......you'd better turn around and move.
