"End to End for 99%" — 11-mile Neighborhood March of the 99%

Posted 12 years ago on Nov. 7, 2011, 9:17 a.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

TODAY, Monday, Nov. 7th, 10:30am

Starting at 181st Street & St. Nicholas Avenue

New York, NY – This morning (Monday, Nov. 7, starting at 10:30am) local elected officials and leaders from diverse communities as well as labor union representatives, and grassroots activists will march eleven miles to connect New York’s communities with the Occupy Wall Street Movement. The “End to End for 99%” march will launch in Washington Heights (181st and St. Nicholas) at 10:30am and work South through Harlem on its way to Zuccotti Park, where it will join Occupy Wall Street protesters in solidarity.

“Our communities have been devastated by the economic assault on middle class and poor families, even as Wall Street has enjoyed a historic financial bonanza,” said State Senator Adriano Espaillat (Manhattan/Bronx). “We are marching together because we want to stand up for the 99% who have been left behind in this economy and build a stronger society that works for all Americans, not just the select few.”

Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez said: "When we march on Monday, we're marching for jobs, we're marching for affordable housing, we're marching for a millionaire's tax. On Monday we are marching to let the city know that the 99% in Northern Manhattan are calling for justice.”

Tyler Combelic, a volunteer with Occupy Wall Street said: “We're proud to stand with our brothers and sisters from diverse communities around New York. We know that communities of color have been especially hard hit by a system that promotes inequality and punishes everyday Americans in favor of Big Banks and the Corporate Elite. We are ready to work together to build a stronger, more equitable America."

New Yorkers from all walks of life will join the march at various points in its 11-mile route. The march will culminate in a solidarity protest at Zuccotti Park, where activists have been gathered to call for fundamental changes to economic policies and our political system.

"Profits and CEO pay are up on Wall Street and in corporate board rooms, but the recession hasn’t ended in our neighborhoods or in working class communities across America," said Wilfredo Larancuent, a leader in the Working Families Party, and in Workers United. “We need to stand together. We are the 99%."

The march announcement was joined by various local non-profit groups who are supporting the Occupy Wall Street Movement, including United NY, New York Communities for Change Project, NAACP, Alianza Dominican, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, Community Board 12, Centro Altragracia, and many others.

Another great action, it's incredible that OWS hasn't let up the pressure and continues to find new, imaginative ways to protest and link up with the community.

I think people have to extend the Occupy movement to the elected lower and upper houses of representatives, including the president. And also to address the mighty and bloating bureaucracy of public service which include the police and the security forces.

Representatives and bureaucrats are the engines and the bodies of corporate greed vehicles. Corporate executives are in the driving seats whether in Wall Street; government departments; or the White House. And they are well protected in Wall Street.

Its clear these candidates are interested mostly in artificially propping up the military industrial complex. The powers that be have always relied on fear and paranoia of the unknown to gain total control of an ill-informed populus. The argument is valid on both sides (Russia/US during cold war as example). The SYSTEM becomes OBSOLETE when this fear of someone you have never even met thousands of miles away is gone. CIA, FBI, TSA, Homeland Security, Patriot Act, 1.5 trillion in 10 years on wars. Our president has no real power anymore, he listens to appointees and does what they ask. He has become a puppet tool like the rest of them, a victim of the MACHINE. We are the "freest" nation on earth with 5% of the world population, but house 25% of the worlds prisoners in our privatized prison system, where people profit when more prison cells are filled, it becomes evident that these companies would be interested in filling said prison cells in the name of the all holy bottom line. Unite against the machine, or be destroyed by it. Tear it down bolt by bolt, for our children. The time is now. Occupy.

I wonder if this is true?

I wonder if they are aware of the fact they would be dragging everyone else down with them...and this is what children dream of becoming huh? Goes to show how materialism kills children eve. Before they become adults...

Thank you Keepitsimple...

Soon enough, keeping our privileged way of life will not be an option. Then, people will wake up.

In just hope that at some point all the OWS Movements throughout America organize a march on Washington, DC consisting of no less than two million 99ers and occupy the White House, the Department of Justice, the Pentagon and our nation's Capitol and choke all access to and out of the city until our demands are met.

Dear Occupy Wall Street

Did you know that there is a UK band called " BLAME THE BANKERS" who play a mixture of pop, blues, jazz and Latin? They were formed about six months ago and if in NYC would love to play for you - pass it around.

Good luck and keep it going!

I am pleased that OWS continually finds new ways to protest and attracts more support. There is a huge culture of non-profit organizations dedicated to social justice/ They have been struggling for years with no unifying voice to support them.

They are unable to be 'political' for tax reasons. Every major metropolitan are has from 1500 to 5000 groups and countless members, employees and supporters. OWS is their voice.

Hello all,

We have been connecting with folks all over the world and trust me, we truly ARE the 99 percent. We are bringing information to those who had been, up until now, ignorant of the true evils that exist among us.

Some who disagreed or were afraid have changed their perspective and opinion of the movement. They realize that they are us.

We must rebuild our "Garden of Eden" this spring, the earth will save us and those that have been terrorized and impoverished all around the earth.

share information, share knowledge, share peace.

Unfortunately your gatherings (peaceful yes) also draw in stupid thugs who like to blend in with the crowd and then act like an ass. The "Bullies with guns" are just there to keep the peace and try to control the "stupid thugs" that mix in at your gatherings and ensure that normal daily activity is not hindered by your presence. I have also watched enough videos of people screaming in officers faces, refusing to move out of the way of officers vehicles, hitting officers vehicles, and even pushing over officers motorcycles. How long would you be able to put up with that before you punched someone in the face? If you tell me you could take it, then I call you a liar. Stage your protest, (and please keep the stupid ones from acting like spokespersons, they are only hurting your cause) (such as,"but the bullies with guns cannot keep it non-violent"), but if the police say that an area needs to be cleared then clear out. I am a Veteran who believes in your right to protest, I just believe that the bad comming from this will prevent you all from making any changes. And please pick up your trash. All gathering sites look as if a dump truck exploded there. Also, please consider the fact that keeping the police busy dealing with you guys is preventing them from chasing down the real criminals. I think you are wasting your time, but I agree that it is your right, just think about some of the things I have said. Dion

What a fine bunch of folks

[-] 1 points by bettersystem (170) 12 years ago

it's ok SwissMiss - there are quite a bunch of hopeless losers all over this site, don't let em' get to you. We are with you, we ARE going to rebuild our world from the ground up, this is already one of the most significant moments in human history. We will prevail.

There is nothing anyone can do about this. We are using the failed system against itself. We are silently boycotting capitalism as a means to an end. Have you seen www.hulu.com/watch/151119/the-end-of-poverty

It is really great, former CIA economic hit men tell all about how they seized land and resources from people all over the earth. We are connecting with them to reclaim the earth.

spread the word that this Spring we are replanting the "Garden of Eden" all across the earth and demonstrating that private interests will not be allowed to starve people into slavery anymore.

The Earth will save us....

[-] 0 points by Dio1313 (69) 12 years ago

SwissMiss, Those who think OWS will actually change anything are delusional. Not trying to be mean, just hate to see so many people waste so much time when they could spend that time looking for a job, or working towards a promotion, or just looking for a better job. Do not tell me there are no jobs out there. They might not be the ones you want, but it would be a good start.
