S17: Another World is Possible

OccupyWallStreet was born Sept. 17, 2011, when we occupied the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District to declare: "We are the 99%! We will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%!"

Our message resonated across the globe as countless sister occupations rose up in solidarity. With the whole world watching, a terrified 1% threw everything they could at us, but in so doing, they exposed not only the violence and deceit necessary to maintain systemic inequality, but also the tragic truth that our so-called democratic governments were in fact tools of the very 1% we had organized to resist. In city after city, we were demonized, brutalized, and evicted – but the 1% made one crucial error: in their arrogance, they assumed they'd won.

The 1% can never win; they are (by their own design) hopelessly outnumbered. Another world is not only possible, it is unstoppable. We, the 99%, are on the right side of history.

One year, and over 7,000 arrests later, we are still fighting. We are not afraid, and we will never, ever, quit.

Join us September 15-17, 2012 for three days of education, celebration, and resistance!

I read these words on this post, "The 1% can never win; they are (by their own design) hopelessly outnumbered. Another world is not only possible, it is unstoppable. We, the 99%, are on the right side of history."

I am in India, half way across the globe but the message caused me to flame out. It reminds me of one of the principles of life, indexed by Leonardo da Vinci. The word is "flumato." This Greek word means two things--buring down and new roots from the ashes. There is a tree in Australia that is killed in the wildfires but the very fire makes its seeds pop open. The germinating seed uses the ashes of the mother tree as nourishment. God's fantastic example of "Law of Conservation" as scientists call it. The OWS is the human equivalent. You now understand the meaning of "flaming out." I suggest the OWS activists/supporters to use this dazzling phrase that our forefathers built to guide us.

I can already see the daisy-chained words like--Statue of Liberty, flaming out, New World...now I invite others to extend this chain as reaction to explode as the Light we are all seeking relentlessly.

Don't let the 1% keep us down. Good people will eventually prevail.

It has been an amazing year for activism as we watched Take Wall Street give birth to a global Occupy movement. For anyone who would like to see some of the journey in pictures from NYC please enjoy and feel free to share. If particular images note use restrictions it is an error tied to my tech skills no more. Knowledge is power that multiplies when we pass it on so let's do the math to make 99% be the majority that governs our fate as free people.

See you in the streets!!

You should make this a separate post of it's own. Then the post itself can be shared out on social media.

BTW - Thanks for the link.

Thanks so much for the appreciation, tech isn't my long suit and amazing enough to me to get this far, but if there's anything you wish to share anywhere please feel free and know you have my blessings and I retweet like a champion! :~)

I am so glad to see Occupy Town Square at the top of the Events list.

I remember when OWS did not promo this fledgeling affinity group, much to their dismay

I also remember the first time that OWS did put up a promo, and texting one of the members to to tell them. Her one word reply was, "yaaaah!"

I respect, and I love these bright, courageous, determined young people greatly

I feel so honored that they took this old dude into their trust, and although my contributions pale to theirs, if nothing else i do my best to see that their events 'shine'

[-] 1 points by richardkentgates (3269) 12 years ago

Good to see growth in Occupy groups, for sure.

[-] 1 points by flip (7101) 12 years ago

off topic but i thought you might like this simple explanation of defaltion and debt from michael hudson - this is the punch line at the end of the paragraph - "deflation magnifies the burden of debt" - here is the paragraph - "If the peripheral nations still had their own currencies, they could and would use devaluation to quickly restore competitiveness. But they don’t, which means that they are in for a long period of mass unemployment and slow, grinding deflation. Their debt crises are mainly a byproduct of this sad prospect, because depressed economies lead to budget deficits and deflation magnifies the burden of debt.

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 12 years ago

You have only the opinions of other to share. You, you do not have the first clue about economics. You're need to constantly call on a reference rather than make your own point tells me you are still in school or not long since graduated and are not secure in your own opinions well enough to state them or stand behind them. Stop posting book reports at me, I'm not your teacher.

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 12 years ago

another thoughtful response - it has nothing to do with the very short simple explanation you asked for - i understand since you cannot come up with a good argument against what was written. and just so you know - if you think that was a book report you have gone to the wrong schools - you are definately not my teacher since as my great unlce joe would say - "you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground"

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 12 years ago

Yes yes. I have nothing against you. But if you're going to talk to me, than you need to talk to me. If I wanted to respond to the author, I would respond to the author. If you are so sure of your opinions, then present them. So far, you present other people's opinion. Present you own.

Deflation lowers prices, period. This is not debatable, it's economic fact.

Lower prices lead to increased demand, also economic fact.

Higher demand leads to increased hiring, also economic fact.

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/economics/09/upside-or-deflation.asp#axzz25Fc1hE1n

The recession was a deflationary period that we have yet to escape. We cannot escape it because the FED is keeping the economy artificially inflated in the face of low employment and low demand. Unless the fed cuts their bullshit and allows the true position of the market to control inflation/deflation, we are going to stay fucked because the gap between current inflation levels (current, not increases) and wages is too damn big. Wages must go up or deflation must be allowed. This is the reality of economics. I don't give a damn if you like it or if your text book says otherwise. The FED has been fighting deflation for almost 5 years and we are still in a rut.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/charleskadlec/2012/02/06/the-federal-reserves-explicit-goal-devalue-the-dollar-33/

Stop drinking the koolaid and get with the program.

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 12 years ago

koolaid is no good - too much sugar - the killer. you asked for short simple statements - here is one that is obvious - "deflation magnifies the burden of debt" - you don't like the idea so you do not respond to it. what will lower prices do when wages drop even lower - what fact explains that . come on - figure this out or stop bothering me. it is very straight forward just like the money in bottles - think and you can get it - you have been hoodwinked by the rich.

[-] 0 points by richardkentgates (3269) 12 years ago

Wages do not drop in dollar amounts under deflation. They may drop in value against inflation.

As far as debt, well that seems to be a budgeting issue. If you are a provider of credit, you knew the risks as it is an investment like any other investment and I will hear no crying from investors that take a loss, thats capitalism. If you default on paying your credit, bohoo, it happens everyday and it's a business decision like any other to forgo paying a debt or filing bankruptcy.

The idea that we should sustain false inflation to protect investors is absurd. It's corporate socialism to do so.

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 12 years ago

Wages do not drop in dollar amounts under deflation - says who - supply and demand covers labor also - no? let's stop i dont' see the world the way you do - think what you want

"you've got to trust us when you need a friend! to find us you have to look WITHIN!" anyone telling you you are a sinner or your fellow men are evil is an ENEMY of our community. marijuana is the holy tree of life of revelations, the plant of renown of ezekiel 34 v29 which predicts the end of the prohibition of marijuana. marijuana is OUR HOLY COMMUNION. anyone supporting the police, stop and frisk and the prohibition of marijuana is an ENEMY of our community.

RAPresentation for OWS is musical primer to a visionary economic system. ParEcon is an alternative to the 1% economics of today's coked out capitalism, and the old record of your grandpapys communism. It is something as new as revolution and as old as revolt. It is in process, and invites participation. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENLx5J3jO10&feature=player_embedded
