Official Statement from Occupy Wall Street - this statement was voted on and approved by the general assembly of protesters at Liberty Square: Declaration of the Occupation of New York City

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.

They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.

They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.

They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.

They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.

They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.

They have sold our privacy as a commodity.

They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.

They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.

They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.

They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.

They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.

They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.

They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.

They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.

They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.

They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts.*

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.

Join us and make your voices heard!

*These grievances are not all-inclusive.

Please pass this letter on to other Protestors - we need your help: Letter to Protestors against Greed

The rich and the bankers own our Government.

1 - To eliminate the greed we need to change how we elect our Congressional leaders. You can do this now by selecting your leaders to represent us in Congress.

2 - We need $0 Salary for politicians. Only expenses will be paid for those who serve in our government. This way, our leaders will work for the good of the people, not to serve special interest groups. Take this pledge and represent us now.

3 - We need term limits for political offices. This would mean our Congressional leaders would serve our country for 6 years, NOT become Career Politicians. This would help stop government corruption including government employees being hired for life. Follow this rule and use it as part of the platform we need.

4 - It looks like we currently have more protestors than we have citizens who actually vote. This shows that there needs to be a change in our government. This movement to “Occupy …. (Name the place)” can be truly effective by selecting people who can represent us in Washington.

5 - We need new representation to change the laws to help the “99% of the people”.

6 - Those who control the laws (rules), control the game and they control the money.

7 - Our police and military should remember that they are also part of the 99%, and if they are directed to break up the protestors they should recognize that the protestors are doing something good for the 99% by working peacefully for a new change.

8 - Our current system is not working for the 99%.

This is what democracy look like! What ever it looks like to those who want to get in the way of justice for all, it has inspired people all over the world to join together and seek to stop the enslavement of the working class and poor by the greedy rich who conspire around the globe to return humanity to the dark ages.

Are you people high? (I just had to ask before I could continue.)
If you're going to make such a bold statement or declaration, shouldn't it be free of grammatical errors? Also, is the above nonsense a statement or a declaration? Are you high?

That is unfair, don't use logic in this argument, obviously they have agreed to completely ignore any semblance of logic.

You need to go around ranting and raving stupidly just like they are doing... Oh and call your mother and ask for money, again.

I move to change the word 'oil' to depend on 'all fossil fuels.' We must not forget the corrupt natural gas industry.

Our government does not have the constitutional authority to hire a private bank to manipulate global currencies.

We will not fix any of our economic problems as long as the Federal Reserve is employed by the US government.

We the People wage war against the multinational corporate lobbyists who have assumed control of our government.

We the People will not give up until our goals are achieved.

We the People will continue to educate our fellow countrymen on these issues.

We must take the state of the economy into consideration when choosing our battles.

Our economy is unstable, and unsustainable.

Our economy will become infinitely more unstable if we take money out of politics without firing the Federal Reserve. This is not a "your opinion" "my opinion" type of thing...this is the current economic paradigm.

We are a movement against the current socio-political paradigm.

We are a movement for, of, and by the American populous and constitution.

We do not align ourselves with any politician.

We are the politicians.

We understand the issues at hand.

We cannot provide all of the solutions. Solutions lie within a new body of legislators, free from greed and corruption.

We are Vox Populi.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.
