Forum Post: Your Failing Movement

I feel sorry for those of you about to be freezing your asses off for a failing movement. The problem isn't Wall St. The problem is is the government (which BTW isn't your friend). See here in America, businesses are in the business of making money (profit). It is the job of the government to tax said revenues and profits. The truth is we as citizens, have allowed politicians to create their own ruling class here in America. Doesn't matter if they are Democrats or Republicans, cause really they both play for the same team; a ruling class of individuals and families.

If you want to make a difference, join your movement and all of the "Occupy" movements from across the US and march on DC. Oddly, many of the issues these people are protesting against could be fixed with relative ease, but only when people wake up and realize that the government is NOT your friend.

  1. Term limits of no more than 6 yrs for everybody except president (could still serve 8)
  2. No more campaign contributions from PAC's or businesses. Contributions could only come from individuals and capped at $1500.

You implement these 2 basic structures and you kill the ruling political class (RPC). It opens up elections/campagins to average people, not just the well funded.

Your movement will fail unless you address the Government directly. The 1% you rally against is unwilling and unable to pass your message of discontent to the real criminals, your "elected" officials. Know that your forefathers gave you the power to restructure the government when it no longer serves the people. You only have to be willing to take it back.

Whenever I take on an issue I look for all possible avenues to win in the end. Occupy Wall Street has all the ingredients to achieve their goal(s). Wall Street's financial structure within our government is a strong force to attempt to bring down. In fact, great change can come about without even touching its influence. Wall Street's money is the deciding factor in both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party as to who gets support in elections and reelections. Vote out every incumbent and you will see change like you never thought possible.

I would say its already succeeded. Anything that gets people questioning, commenting and suggesting solutions on such a wide scale is victory enough for me. This movement is planting seeds that will, if allowed, grow into something solid and better for everyone... All '100%' of us.

Wall Street is where the power lies. You may not understand what good protesting there does, but I assure you that representatives understand it. And it scares them.

I don't think you get it.

We can't bus everyone to washington D.C.

The reason there can be an accumulation in new york city is that it is the symbol and workplace of these people who are controlling washington.

A part of the problem IS Wall Street. It is the money in politics that corrupts our government.

Again, good luck removing the money. It makes more sense to remove the players. Read my recommendations as it addresses this very issue.

I define the 1% as those who use their money to buy their representation in government. 99% are left with the scraps. Wall Street is a symbol of money. Money in the political system is the problem. Wall Street is a big part of this. 99% no longer receive fair and equal representation in our government. Money speaks too loudly. We must fight for publicly funded campaigns and elections. When 100% of our voices are heard by our government again, we can begin to solve all the other problems.

Well April, I can guarantee the one thing you will never ever change is money in the political system. The only thing you'll have left to do once the 1% decides to remove you from Wall St, is change the rules of the political system.

That is what I hope will happen. We need to change the rules of the system. Through publicly funded campaigns and elections. This is not a new or radical idea. But it may be the first time that 99% of the people will come to UNDERSTAND the necessity of this. As a result of this protest.

This "movement" is simply making it all way too complicated for "regular" people to get behind. I Implore whoever is leading this motley crew to make these 2 things your demands, and see how quickly change comes.

You're on to something here. However, I do think we need to be just as suspicious of big business as govt. because corporations can be powerful entities which influence and affect our lives, so we need to be vigilant and have a say in how they conduct themselves. I do see that your solution would actually be a big step in allowing for that. Once our govt. representatives have to pay more attention to the voters than the lobbyists and donors real change could start.
