The saying "You can't evict an idea who's time has come" has always been a favorite of mine. Just think of all the seeds planted during this movement. Maybe other groups will form, maybe people will decide to do their own thing in whatever way they can, or maybe the 2600 communities that have already sprung up out of this will take the seeds and nurture them to maturity. Maybe all of the above.

Tea Party is dead! Long live Occupy!

I notice that some of the things the Tea Party want, and some of the things that Occupy want, have an overlap. Both of them are fighting against a corrupt government that is blatantly disregarding the Bill of rights and making a naked show of force.

There is a possibility of the two cooperating together, at least on some things. In fact, that might be an essential element if either group wants to succeed.

Remember 'divide and conquer'? How about 'United we stand, divided we fall?' The Tea Party and OWS have some common concerns. It would be a shame if their differences led to another bloody civil war.

Remember, the peaceful protests and civil disobedience of OWS means they are up against the weapons of the Police, and the Military, and if provoked, the citizen's militia of the Tea Party.

Peaceful protest and civil disobedience are very effective against the Police and Military, but would probably be likely be less effective against the Tea Party if things went sideways.

I really think both groups need the support of each other. The Tea party benefits by having peaceful protestors willing to risk bodily injury and arrest by placing themselves on the front lines, offering a peaceful solution. Peace is always the best choice. You don't want your fellow Americans to die fighting each other against injustice and the violations of the rights of the American people, regardless of their politics.

OWS need the Tea Party citizen's militia as a 'reserve force', in case a collapsing government goes berserk and starts using it's own troops against it's own people. This is a definite possibility. President Obama recently decided to deploy 20,000 U.S. troops to the streets of the U.S. in hopes of containing civil unrest in the events of a terrorist attack or 'an economic meltdown'. The economic meltdown is inevitable.

The Tea Party has become an ineffectual joke, co-opted by the Republicans and special-interest 1%ers. They've been around almost four years and for all their chest-thumping and back-patting about getting their people into high offices, oddly, in Washington, it's still 'Business as Usual.'

It will die if it is focused on rhetoric. We demand real change. For example, Constitutional Amendments, through evoking article 5 (constitutional convention method), that will remove money from politics and assert the peoples authority over all the institutions we create, business or government. Put the discredited oil & gas industry out of business. We can create our own energy – right here and now. We can create a new collaborative lateral energy regime owned and created by the people.

Thats funny right there. The tea party is very much alive and well.As the election draws near you all will see how a protest really works. You may think we are dead because we are not out in force every day like you people but then hey we got jobs to go to everyday.

Not dead but definitely exposed. The Koch influence will be their demise for sure A new documentary to soon come out exposing Uncle David and his secret dealings with Iran. It's not going to go over too well with the majority

Occupy will fail because it will earn the disgust of the majority.

For example: http://occupywallst.org/forum/occupy-oakland-just-voted-to-close-down-the-ports-/

Occupy says it is against the 1%. But does it protest yacht clubs? Is it blockading the NY millionaire's clubs? No, it blockades/invades where the little guy lives and works.

What does blockading the little guy have to do with a message to get money out of politics, one may wonder? OWS is sheltered if it thinks that the public, the majority, the real 99% is on its side. Most still support OWS' original messages, but the messages are getting lost in the OWS mess.
If OWS continues to block the regular people from going to their jobs, or driving home, or taking their kids to school, what marginal support OWS has, will disintegrate.
It will be the 99% that OWS says it represents that turns on OWS the hardest, and the majority will, like they have already called for in the cities, call for them to be removed so they can take their kids to their parks again. Do not think it is a city mayor removing protesters. Its all the angry phone calls from the mayor's constituents. They want to walk their dogs in their parks, they want to drive on the roads without being blocked and they want to go to work and earn their living. When OWS invades and blockades the regular people, OWS loses them.

from what i understand the tea party is still operating in massive numbers. They had a rally with over 1 million people attending

so far occupy's record is 30,000 so to even compare this shitty joke of a movement comparable to the tea party is violently retarded

[-] 5 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

Why do all Tea Party Supporters have foul mouths?

Is it because you really have nothing to say and out of desperation you resort to using curse words because somehow you believe that it's a way to win an argument.

Also, you LIE. Your AstroTurf Tea Party propped up by the Koch Brothers never put a million fair weathered fans anywhere at any time in the Tea Bagger Meet Ups. If you know where that was, let's have proof. Really let's have it, the proof. I know you don't have it. Your propping up a collapsed movement. When you lose in 2012 as voters reject the Tea Baggers you will hear the bell rung on the death of TBers as anything but extreme right wing haters who have trash mouths.

All I heard was the last part:

"...the tea party is violently retarded."

Of that, I agree wholeheartedly.

[-] 1 points by RogerDee (411) from Montclair, NJ 12 years ago

Please provide proof of 1 million tea parters in a rally. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

[-] 2 points by Puzzlin (2898) 12 years ago

RogerDee,

We will never get that answer because you and I and mostly everyone else here knows that it's a BIG LIE.

A million not even close. I saw pictures of some rallies where they were lucky to get an even dozen period.

Thanks for keeping the truth rolling in these forums.

It's a total fail as it is today. Camping out, beating drums, getting high, pissing in the park, blocking traffic, blocking universities, marching hither and yon with no end game is stupid. The Tea Party affected ELECTIONS. Put on coats and ties, organize an electoral convention, support OWS nominees at the local level and you might get something done. Confront the public employee unions, support private unions, create a simple clear platform and OWS might effect change. Ask for Social Security to be reined back.

The Tea Party affected elections and are responsible for the least popular Congress ever.
