Forum Post: Why you don't want the police to actively support OWS

I have ready some threads talking about how to convince the police to drop their batons and come over to the "other" side and show their support for OWS. Police officers should not let their personal beliefs sway them from doing their jobs - they should act in the best interest of the community and in accordance with the laws of the land.

While it sounds great in theory that the officers would all jump on the OWS bandwagon - that option would also have to be there for any other "movement" that comes along. What if there was some huge anti-OWS movement that officers agreed with - you would expect them to NOT allow their beliefs to influence their actions... You can't have it both ways.

its no tthat we don't want them to support us; of course we do; and eventually they will. we simply understand that on duty, they don't, and many can't.

in short, the system is crooked, and that makes all cops crooked by default. horrible paradox and a sad state, but thats what fascism does to the system; trashes authorities integrity and ends genuine moral authority.

the police are too programmed to be swayed easily, they will likely generally be the last to be convinced.

Most cops are union members. They already support the movement through union dues since the unions support the movement. They are unable to strike. Best they can do is call in sick.
