Forum Post: Why OWS should have focused on Crony Capitalism

At the beginning....the OWS was in great deal focused on crony capitalism although there was no particular message. I, and many others at that time, argued that crony capitalism should be the focus. Alas, OWS didn't adopt any coherent message. The strategy has some merit but also resulted in OWS being all things to all people. What saddens me is that OWS could have stepped out of the Us v. Them box and focused on the real evil that is destroying this country....i.e. crony capitalism. Instead the OWS is now seen by most people in this country and a whining group of children. This "joke" I just got in my in box exemplifies it perfectly. Very sad people, very sad.

I am a member of golf's 99%.

I play golf when I feel like it, but have not yet made it to the professional level! I have played the game for over 50 years, but have not really put in the practice time and study to be the best. And I probably do not have the skills to really get there either.

However, I now feel that I should be paid by the successful dedicated Golf professionals for sort of trying. It isn't fair that those players who have worked harder, have studied the game, have better equipment and are stronger and more skilled should make all that BIG money.

Where's my share? Oh sure, they have their charities that they give millions of dollars to, but I am sure that they write all that off on their tax returns to reduce paying their fair share. Is that fair? Come on, let's be fair.

They should pay for my golf, buy me new equipment and pay me some of their winnings. The whole system should be changed to accommodate people like me! I'm trying. Let's occupy a golf course and demand that those who are better at what they do pay for us who aren't as good.

Whining should get us something, like media attention and Obama’s sympathy!

Yea sure, this is to simple a parable, ..............or is it.

Here's how your post should have been written;

I took up golf when I was younger. Was very keen to learn and progress through the ranks. Eventually, I started to think that it didn't really matter how good I was.

It turns out it really was about who I knew, and how many butts I could lick on one round of the course. It had nothing to do with how good my swing was, or what kind of iron I picked for each shot.

Those who got to play in the big games were the sons and daughters of the same people who've been playing in the masters for generations.

In fact, to actually get a membership to some of the clubs where they play, you have to be recommended by someone who is already a member. Otherwise, you just don't get to go anywhere near those courses or clubhouses.

These days, I'm quite happy to have the odd game with real friends, who don't measure you by how many butts you had to lick, and how many dicks you had to suck, to get a membership of their club.

The golf 'parable' was a 'joke' he rec'd in an email. He merely shared it to make his point that OWS has become a joke to many of the 99%. Geez.

Hell, I've known that since he first ran in '88. Hoperfully he can get something of his platform over to Newt or Mitt. C'mon, look at our choices...obama, mitt, or newt? Ronnie isn't worse, but anyway, it was funny to hear newt in the gop debate Monday night say something about auditing the Fed. It's a start. What I'd really like (but know it aint gonna happen) is to have a presidential candidate throw in the towel on the war on drugs. It's made criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens, wreaked untold suffering and death in Mexico, helped build out police state and is also a big money maker for the law enforcement depts that get that 'dealer' since they often seize all their assets alleging the house and car came from ill gotten gains.

Yeah, I hear ya.

I also heard that Canada is trying to legalise maryjane and tax it.

Not that I'm a smoker, but locking people up for victimless "crime" is pretty pointless, and such a drag on the economy.

Costs a fortune to keep people behind bars.
