Forum Post: Who are the 99% to you?

I'm curious as to how we individually label the 99% and thus as a whole.

I have read comments that the 99% includes everyone who is with the OWS except: felons, racists, conspiracy theorists, bank employees, or corporation employees etc.

I personally believe the 99% includes everyone from drug dealers to convicted felons to anti-OWS to the homeless to nurses to teachers to students to even racist or conspiracy activists. The 1% is, on the other hand, the extremely rich who evade taxes thus benefiting from Reaganomics as well as corporations. My reasoning does not matter.

Who do you think are the 99%?.

Are you insinuating that the opposite is true or are you being sarcastic? Keep in mind that thieves wouldn't steal if the banks/ corporations/ government didn't take their money away initially. Although I do steal for fun in Skyrim.

You got me there. I guess my opinion is conditional, I strongly want to label them 1% but that would be hypocritical since they benefit from the 1% rather than actually compose it unless they are rich corporates/ lobbyists. I was viewing the people above as middle to low class but I didn't really think about the corruption you stated. I do think this mess dates back to the colonists however.

I agree with your position. I would like to add in and suggest that I think it would be better to have a type of psychological rehab that is mandatory for criminals rather than dumping them into private prisons. While I agree with having a jury and a court, I wonder if bail should be eliminated to prevent the scenarios you suggested however that would back fire if the officer was corrupted.

"My reasoning is that the homeless would have homes, the felons would have never committed their crimes, the drug dealers wouldn't have to make a living off of selling drugs, the racist wouldn't be against the races that have wronged them"

All we have to do is get the government in order to fix all these things?

Why didn't anyone think of this sooner? Think of all the time we have been wasting here.

P.S. I thought BlackBloc was delusional...he doesn't hold a candle to you.

Clearly my message isn't getting across. This isn't about how to fix the government, I merely summed it up to briefly state my view. Obviously nothing can be done overnight or even in years. If we completely overthrew the government than maybe.

This is about who is the 99% to you. I have read and heard mixed views about who OWS is talking about when they refer to the 99%. Many people may separate specific people because they think those people are the problem so I stated my reason to include them (basically the government is the problem, not these specific people), so instead of separating everyone, we should band together etc. I want to know actual views and not just generalize what those people meant just like how you just generalized I was deluded.

Exactly, if our government actually cared about people instead of making money. Btw you didn't answer the question.

I can't acknowledge the question, 99% was a catch phrase that didn't ever mean anything.

[-] 1 points by IslandActivist (191) from Keaau, HI 12 years ago

So to you it was a simple catch phrase... I'm curious as to how you view the OWS, like what they are doing for who they are doing (if that isn't too much to ask). The title above says this is a worldwide revolution, would that be something you agree with or?

I am not an OWS supporter. I originally came here with an open mind to try and find common ground (I believe changes are needed), I was met with insults and opinions in which if you expressed an opposing view you would be ridiculed and considered the "1%". Shortly after my original profile was banned I took it upon myself to do everything in my power to see this thing burn to the ground. Now I just spam posts with sarcasm, and try to sway loyal OWS supporters to realize that communism is not the answer.

So because you were trolled you are now trolling. Well, I can't say if you'll be able to burn this to the ground but I'm going to continue in my search to see if OWS actually is what they stand for. Sure I'll find ignorance and hate, but that it 99% of the world, isn't it?

I wasn't trolled, I was shown the true spirit of this "movement".

[-] 1 points by IslandActivist (191) from Keaau, HI 12 years ago

I'll admit that there is A LOT of ignorance, but at this point it's hard to discern who are actually OWS and who is simply a troll. There are also cross-breeds as well. I look at OWS as Michael Moore's baby since that's where the slogan came from, which is a statistic but I believe it's more of a 10% to 90% on Reaganomics etc. I question if the OWS is educated on this as a whole.

They are hypocrites good for nothing more than entertainment.

The movement's values are definitely what we would need, but all of the protestors need to be more educated. Thankfully, I have actually been 'studying' these issues long before OWS. I know a few documentary films I think would help the protestors and the movement overall if they all had the same information.
