On the Levin-McCain bill? Buried in the annual defense appropriations bill is a provision that would give the President the power to use the military to intern anyone -- including American citizens -- indefinitely, and hold them without charges or trial, anywhere in the world, including on American soil.
It must be in the same place it was when the Patriot Act passed. I read the bill and, unfortunately, it is worded in such a way that it can be claimed that American citizens are protected unless they're supporting or aiding our enemies. With the abuse that has already occurred under the Patriot Act, this new bill makes it easier to stop anyone and claim they are "suspected" of something. I hear Obama will veto it. I do hope so. Where is the outrage about the efforts in 40 states to restrict people's ability to vote?
Can you provide more info (links?) on this? Thanks.

picked up and reported by MSNBC this morning; MSNBC was also the only news network I saw anything about the Levin-McCain bill, and the reference was all too brief.
A photo ID lessens fraud. It does not restict you from voting, A photo ID can be gotten for free. In order to get or change cable equipment I have to show a photo ID.
of course it does, but to a liberal, asking someone to get a photo id is a hate crime against poor minorities. ask a liberal why this is so, and watch the swerving, ducking and dodging begin. they really can't come out and say, "because we think they are lazy and stupid and don't give a shit," so they just get louder and angrier and cry racism. it is pathetic how much liberals look down on poor minorities. they really do hate them more than the phantom racists they believe exist everywhere do. they just use them for votes by pretending to care.
"pretending to care" ,..........that's what they do.

This bill is terrible. I'm outraged. Unfortunately it will probably pass because Americans are so afraid of their shadows that they will give all of their rights away for the promise that they will be a little safer. Governments have killed far more people than terrorists throughout history. That's something we should all think about.
Hope Obama vetoes it.
He may but that's no consolation. He vetoed a similar bill before and his reason for doing so what not that it was unconstitutional but that he didn't need congress's permission to do such things. There are already many executive orders on the books that give him similar "authority".
Gets more astounding day by day.
Please see my post it has been up for quite some time right now. I am outraged that this past. I tried my best to make everyone aware of this awful bill and call their Senators. It passed in Senate anyway.

But suspension of habeas corpus is already written into the constitution so nothing new really
Article 1 Section 9 The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.
