Forum Post: Where are all the recent donations?

The report that OWS has collected $300k in donations is almost a week old. Given all the media coverage, there must have been significant donations since that last report! Where are they? How much? Who has control of it?

On this site, the donations are largely reported to go to general fund of NYGA. What exactly does that mean? It seems that too many of us are unconcerned about the financial end of things..... while I understand that money is not the central force in our lives, we should be standing up against waste and inefficiency, no? Hard to tell if that exists when we don't even haVe any real idea how much was raised and how much was spent?

Can't the leadership respond?

I don't give a fuck if the "Facilitators Working Group" took the whole 300K and spent it on horse tranquilizers, tranny hookers and gambling at the dog cart track.

I'm gonna be occupying wall street eight days a week.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

That is not a good enough answer for me and it certainly would not be good enough for the donors.

I'm a donor, and like I said---don't give a fuck.

I'm staying focused.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Okay, but so am I, and I do care.

I started a thread about this as well.

The $300k mark was reported by several news sources this week.

We the people have a right to see where every dime of those donations are being used.

Transparency is not an option.

I am with you 100 percent jbell. Can't see why anyone is really fighting against this. No logical reason to.

We need to think bigger money goes where money knows... Money grows where money goes. We are giving money everyday to itself occupying our own wealth. What we need to do is devalue the worth of money! How? BARTER! Barter we need to start trading services and make a new source of money then you will see where money really goes....I make furniture you grow food I make clothes you make steel I make water you make steam...

It's not the money I am focused on, it is the obligation that we have to the donors and to each other to use our limited resources wisely. If we are adamant in not wasting the earth's limited and valuable resources, why are we so cavalier about the limited and valuable resources generously granted to us by those who support the cause? I think there is an obligation there that has nothing to do with the materialistic aspects of money.

Look I understand where your going and the fact is your right. But please keep in mind that what is happening right now is revolutionary so things are happening very fast. Faster than you and I could even fathom...So is there going to be some hiccups yes but trust me if we really believe in the 99% we can be assured 100% of those funds are going back to help us ;)

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Hope you are right Marc. Doesn't seem like my concern is getting anything more than a lukewarm response.

[-] 1 points by Marc526 (44) from Lodi, NJ 12 years ago

Change comes from within every time a change happens another member joins our movement. Your concern is felt I felt it and so have others thank you for your concerns. And please keep hope within us all so more can see a better tomorrow.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Marc, you have a lot of love and hope. God bless.

[-] 1 points by josh (3) 12 years ago

Quaker, why are you asking these questions? Your snooping will only serve to divide. Even if the leaders of a leaderless movement is robbing everyone blind, it does not lessen the cause. Who cares about a little bit of money. Fuckin relax!

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Josh, that kind of response makes me sick. We're not supposed to ask questions? Let the leaders spend our limited resources in secret? Isn't that the type of behavior we are resisting against?

[-] 1 points by josh (3) 12 years ago

There are no leaders. That's the point of our true democracy.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

NOT saying this is happening, but if someone collected all this money based on our collective blood sweat tears and days and weeks occupying and ran off with it, you are okay with that?

[-] 1 points by josh (3) 12 years ago

So be it. Doesn't lessen the cause.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

If that's the case these guys are just as bad, maybe even worse, than the wall streeters. Why not protest against them instead? Your hypocrisy mystifies me.

[-] 1 points by jbell78 (152) 12 years ago

I'm pretty sure josh is just trolling...

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

jbell, you and me seem like the only ones to see eye-to-eye on this. My other posts with the same themes also got lukewarm response. Guessing that there is no build up of consensus on this issue to have the leadership react.

[-] 1 points by jbell78 (152) 12 years ago

Well for one, no one knows who the leadership is...it's so silly. OWS clings to the ideals of having no leadership when that's precisely what they need right now to turn this protest into anything more than a tantrum.

I'm just pissed because I donated very early on & know others who did as well. Without releasing the financial details to donors & potential donors, OWS is no better than the shady corporations they crusade against.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

I hear your frustration. What can you do? The consensus is not to care. I think you and I both know that the donations will dry up and the movement will lose momentum if there really is some sort of scandal. Hope that isn't the case. Even if it is, there really is a mass movement outside of these cash rich but identity poor leaders. That is what is necessary to carry the day, I guess.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Probably right. Nobody can be that idiotic.

[-] 1 points by enlightened (177) 12 years ago

What report are you talking about? Do you have a link to it?

I know people who have donated, I don't think they will like that

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

By report, I mean the reports in the media that OWS has received 300k in donations. Those reports are almost a week old.

[-] 1 points by enlightened (177) 12 years ago

What media, is it on the web. I know some people that will be very disillusioned

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

Think we are miscommunicating enlightened. There were widely reported stories from just about very media source that OWS had raised 300k in donations. My point is, nobody's heard anything about it, or any new donations, in about a week's time.

This is rich....

[-] 0 points by AntiCorp (187) 12 years ago

HAHAHAHA your own "leaders" are scamming you outta money.

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

That's going too far..... But a little transparency would help.

[-] 0 points by AntiCorp (187) 12 years ago

Well, where is the money? You can bet, that someone within the OWS is making money off you guys....it's the American way....isn't that what you guys keep saying...?

[-] 1 points by quaker (64) 12 years ago

That what I want to figure out.... Innocent until proven guilty is also the American way, AntiCorp.

[-] 0 points by AntiCorp (187) 12 years ago

Really....is that why Obama killed a U.S. citizen with a drone attack? Noble Peace Prize winner...hahahahahahahaha
