Forum Post: When did this forum get like and dislike buttons?

I am just curious on the outcome of this karma system. The up vote and down vote is supposed to be for if the post violates the rules or not. Now they have become 'I like this comment' and I 'disagree with this comment'. I would hate to encounter all of the people who disagree with me if it means my reputation will go down. I don't see the point of acknowledging these points if, for instance, they mean you are either pro-OWS or anti-OWS. That's just my opinion.

Agreed, it's been abused, hell I'm guilty myself

Why not use the like/dislike buttons for such things as abusive language, off topic, etc?

I think they are used as 'like/dislike'. Personally, I so abhor name calling and other personal attacks, that I give a dislike to any post I see which contains them, even if I would otherwise agree with the rest of the comment. I do not want to support incivility in any way.

The like/dislike buttons are useful when you are being stalked. For example, I'm currently being stalked by GirlFriday. I have asked her to stop, but she isn't. Thus, I will use a bot to down vote all her comments and collapse her into the underworld.

Apart from that, there is no use. It's a logical fallacy to reply to someone in view of his karma points. You should always reply to comments, not their proposers. Hell, the usernames should also be hidden so that stalking is made impossible.

I will continue to comment on your irrational conspiracy theories. They are not good for the forum and, further, break rule 2. :D

I would be careful, its easy to hijack the like/dislike, as Thrassy did last month, and then send you off to FBI honey-pot child-porn sites,...

If you ever click on anything here at the OWS forum verify where it actually takes you, even the blue 'like / dislike' is easy to hijack as thrass has shown.

Personally there is no reason to ever click on anything here external or internal.

I only use the like/dislike against those who use it on me, e.g.. It's amusing that some us actually have a negative rating, but I see it as a badge of honor, on the highest praise of such noteworthy of hl-mencken, pt-barnum, or wc-fields, ... never belong to a club that would appraise you ...
