Forum Post: What is the purpose of this forum? Why are you here?

Posted 12 years ago on Feb. 14, 2012, 12:18 a.m. EST by DustyAngel (0)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I'd like to ask two honest questions:

  • What is the purpose of this forum?
  • Why are you here?

It seems to me that most users here are not OWS protesters, not the ones you see in the street anyhow.

Additionally, what is discussed on this forum does not seem to have much affect on OWS. After all, OWS decisions are taken at general assemblies and most people here do not attend those.

Also, most of the postings on this forum have to do with political issues, conspiracy theories, TV ads, etc... and none of these topics have much to do with OWS which is a non-political protest.

Furthermore, there are very few postings about anarcho-syndicalism, or other related theories; topics which are at the heart of OWS.

Finally, this site does not seem to be made up of experts. For example, there are discussions on certain economic issues, but it seems to me that it would be much more gratifying to discuss these in an economic forum attended by many experts in the field.

I don't want to put down OWS in any way. I'm seriously asking these questions. I'm not really sure what the true purpose of this site is. What is it? And, more importantly, why are you here? Do you think the discussions here can make a difference? If so, how?

Before I answer (which I will happily do) why are YOU here, DustyAngel? What led you to this forum and what do you hope/wish to gain from visiting?

(I ask in good faith, as I assume you do, too.)

hmmm, Dusty... well ... here's what I believe... and I can be wrong... but...

this site imo... is about awareness building and constituency building... arguing ... mostly... sharing knowledge the best we can.... and continuously trying to get a better plan defined... as far as assembly stuff.. well www.nycga.net .. was set up for that ... it's much more peaceful there ... hehehe ... sometimes ;)

This is why I support OWS: Congressmen Dennis Kucinich speaks out against the 7.7 trillion dollars created from nothing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUpXDZFtEHw

Watch this video and then ask yourself this, "Now do you understand Occupy Wall Street?"

Not economics. News stories. Some people share really good articles on here. I like to be informed on current events. Our country is at war and aspects of our government show signs of corruption.

Here's a few:

"Is this the United States congress, or the board of directors of Goldman Sachs?" -Congressman Dennis Kucinich - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YimTs6Q_xD0

ACLU files law suit against the Obama administration for war crimes... not the first time either. - http://www.aclu.org/national-security/al-aulaqi-v-obama

Purpose of this forum:

  1. If you are OWS hippie you are here to vent your frustration because you are a failure.
  2. If you are not a OWS hippie, you are here to make fun make of others.

Guess which of the two categories I fall into

"OWS which is a non-political protest"

You are wrong,OWS is made up of a lot of different beliefs but mostly it is comprised of pro-Obama and Leftist ideologues.

I'm extremely against the Obama administration and I support Occupy Wall Street. Obama is guilty of war crimes. He and Bush should have been impeached within their first 2 years as president. Obama supported the damn bailouts which is one of the primary issues in Occupy Wall Street. "Banks got bailed out! We got sold out!"

This is why I support OWS: Congressmen Dennis Kucinich - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUpXDZFtEHw

To the poster, Watch this video and then I ask yourself this, "Now do you understand Occupy Wall Street?"

I said "mostly". You apparently are not.

In person I have talked with more people who do not support Obama. With people I've chatted with on this site, more people seem to support Obama.

Not supporting Obama is not to be confused with supporting the GOP.

"Not supporting Obama is not to be confused with supporting the GOP."

I understand that point. But I find:

" people I've chatted with on this site, more people seem to support Obama."

This is very interesting, can you offer any explanation? I wouldn't doubt your experience,I'm just curious as to why you think this is the case.

Honestly I have no idea. If you look into the words of the Obama administration's Cass R Sunstein maybe an answer is there.

Sunstein co-authored a 2008 paper with Adrian Vermeule, titled "Conspiracy Theories," dealing with the risks and possible government responses to false, conspiracy theories resulting from "cascades" of faulty information within groups that may ultimately lead to violence. In this article they wrote, "The existence of both domestic and foreign conspiracy theories, we suggest, is no trivial matter, posing real risks to the government’s antiterrorism policies, whatever the latter may be." They go on to propose that, "the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups",[23] where they suggest, among other tactics, "Government agents (and their allies) might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action."[23] They refer, several times, to groups that promote the view that the US Government was responsible or complicit in the September 11 attacks as "extremist groups."

Cass R Sunstein is now the Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Obama administration.

But hey, maybe he just wrote that paper a while back to stir up conspiracy theorists. Obviously the paper is aimed at more "theory" type groups, but it's still a freaky thing to think about.

My second guess would be that OWS is a liberal movement, and a lot of democrats that support Obama support the kind of things that OWS supports. They just haven't gotten to the point where they find out Obama is a fraud yet.

Regardless of what is written on the main page.

Just read through the topics and and replies of this Forum and you will come to the same conclusion. MOSTLY comprised of pro-Obama and Leftist ideologues.

It's hard core leftists that insist on taking other people's money to give to the government to redistribute, on one hand. On the other hand it is people trying to reason with people on the left to hopefully get them to realize stealing by legal theft through lawmakers is still theft. Mostly it is ideologues of one persuasion or another, trying to get others to see the error of what they believe.

I'm afraid you are wrong. This forum is basically what your impression of it is...idle chat. I'm with you, would have been nice if it had some teeth.

DustyAngel-- * Why are you here?

It seems to me that most users here are not OWS protesters, not the ones you see in the street anyhow.

Finally someone is asking the same question I was in 2004 trying to argue for a simple engineering truth about 9-11, the fact FEMA misrepresented the structure of the Twins to NIST. The most important thing to all my opposition was that the true structure was not known. They could support no other with independently verified information. All of their info led back to FEMA. I always asked "Why are you here." And never got an answer, in years.

It is my belief that DustyAngel and FriendlyObserverB are Thrasy :(

Hmmm, interesting proposal, but I read aspects I don't think Thrasy will entertain.
