Fox reported this morning that while Banks are not reporting closures, credit union are certainly boasting gains in new accounts! Must be working! Bravo my patriots!

Thanks for the link. Don't you find it interesting that the original organizer clearly stated that she doesn't support OWS in the article? LOL

@happybank$ter...Me too. But then again I have an ING account so that probably doesn't count since I don't have to leave the house to get to my "branch"..People will be pulling out, give it some time...If you read the Art of War...The protesters are doing just about everything right..

First of all you have to realize that Bank Transfer Day is largely symbolic. Even if half the bank accounts of individuals were closed it would represent only maybe 5-10% of the bank's money. While the rate of bank closings for the last month have been historically high, it is not close to half the individual accounts, but it is growing. It takes time for people to research their options and decide on an alternative. I would predict that transfers will continue for some time as the message continues to spread.

The bank's biggest accounts are with Cities, Counties, and States. There are a number of these that are actively considering their own bank transfers. When this begins to happen is when you know OWS is having success.

I work for a CU and we have been averaging 600 new accounts/week since talk of transfer day came about. It has been huge for our organization. People that realize the only way to make change is to change are doing it!

There is no choice, this is our affluent society. everyone is rich.

All I see are people afraid to stand up for their own individual rights. When did it ever come to being afraid of your own government? That is, ironically, empowered by the people.

[-] 0 points by nikka (228) 12 years ago

So you're saying people aren't transfering their money because they're afraid?

[-] 1 points by yasminec001 (584) 12 years ago

Not all of them, as everyone is different. But I think most of those people who have not transferred their money (and wanted to) are scared of what could happen, or the future.

I've found many people stay in unfortunate situations due to a fear of change.

[-] 0 points by nikka (228) 12 years ago

I've transferred money from bank to bank at least 3 dozen times in my life. People do it all the time when they move, go away to college, find a friendlier bank, or want a free give-away toaster. I've never known anyone to be afraid of switching banks. It's like saying people are afraid to switch grocery stores.

[-] 1 points by yasminec001 (584) 12 years ago

Just because you are not afraid doesn't mean there are no people out there who are. These times are different than before. It's not about switching to a more effective toaster. It's about the unknown, the chaos, etc.

And I'm pretty sure that this isn't what I was originally referring to, but I answered your question anyways. Why else haven't we spoken up before? Why else have we just worked all our lives, doing the 'right' thing, to be fucked over constantly and keep quiet? Nah. People are scared of change, and scared of the unknown.

Now don't be giving up hope younglings. You still have something that politicians fear. NUMBERS. What you need to do is take a census of everyone who supports you, get names, political districts, addresses and signatures. Get 3/4 of the State Legislatures to back a Constitutional Amendment against Organizations participating in the political process. Then Force the US congress (through Article V of the Constitution) to vote on it due to the national convention.

It seems that they've reached the upper limits of their achievement level with the obtainment of a porta-potty. Two blocks away.

Now that's what I call success.
