Politicians and the Power-Elite know it is all a battle for the hearts and minds of WE THE SHEEPLE. Critical thinking skills don't matter anymore. Logical arguments don't matter anymore. Well-reasoned and intelligent debate based on facts don't matter anymore. WE THE SHEEPLE have been intentionally dumbed-down for decades in a purposeful effort to reduce WE THE SHEEPLE to a near-catatonic state of mindless robots ready to receive ANYTHING pushed out over the airwaves, including Jerry Springer debauchery spectacles, The Bachelor/Bachelorette infantile drool, COPS Police State fascination, and Paris Hilton mental meltdown.
Politicians have to talk on a 3rd grade conversation level just so WE THE SHEEPLE can understand them. That is why all they do is engage in negative character assassination, insult their opponents, and never discuss issues. What else can you expect from a population programmed with American Gladiator, UFC, and WWF? WE THE SHEEPLE would not be able to comprehend them if they actually discussed issues on a level of Edward R. Murrow or William F. Buckley.
WE THE SHEEPLE have been programmed to comprehend on a child's level of understanding.
This did not happen by accident.
And it will continue. Because the Power-Elite don't want an educated, erudite general population. They don't want people who can understand what these control-freaks have done to them and how they have subtlety manipulated their minds with mind-control messages and childish programming fodder. They don't want a mass of people that can pose a threat to their corrupt, greedy status quo by actually understanding how their minds have been stupefied for decades.
Now, eat your popcorn and watch Oprah. Nighty-night, sweet dreams, and hug your teddy bear.

I can not recommend these programmes highly enough to readers - especially "Capital Account" and "The Keiser Report", for those who want to cut through all 'The Market BS' to the heart of the matter of Bankster Greed and Corruption.

I think much of the fact that the propagandists push this image of America onto Americans is not because they are like that (I truly believe those people may in fact be a minority.) Perception is reality and they want you to believe your fellow Americans are not worth fighting for. This is a tactic - the curtain is slowly opening. We are not what they describe, we are not surveys, or statistics, or speculations. Its time to show Wall Street and the world who we are. We are people who care about the state of the world. We know that people are more than numbers on a page or propaganda. We know that one percent of the population has stolen and is hording away the world's natural abundance. We are here to pull the rug out. Fight on Occupy - We're here and we are not watching television. We are not being doused with propaganda and if we are we don't believe it. We know better.

Well shadz, 4 hours down, 9 hours to go.
Just watched all of "The Century of the Self". Very revealing and very depressing in the extreme. Individuals revealed to be essentially irrational and selfish creatures, supported by a hundred years of scientific and business research that bears this out. Big business manipulation of those irrational subconcious desires for profit. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the human race is a doomed species. The only animal capable of "advanced" rationality gives up said rationality in favor of selfish base desires being fulfilled, and not only purchases products to fulfill individual selfishness, but purchases (votes) politicians into office in support of personal selfishness rather than any sense of moral conscience as to what is best for society and the greater good (because there IS no greater good than individual self-gratification). By this view, there IS no morality. No sense of self-sacrifice for a higher purpose, because there IS no higher purpose than personal self-gratification. Business and politics exists only to fulfill that gratification.
I say this honestly and with full conviction: if this is what the human race has come to after millions of years of evolution -- a supremely ego-centric animal that exists for no other purpose than to have every imaginable desire and pleasure gratification fulfilled -- then I say the sooner we destroy ourselves into complete extinction the better off the rest of the animals on this planet will be.
These films have held a VERY UGLY mirror up to the face of humanity and have revealed an ignoble creature fundamentally flawed in the extreme. Up to this point, I had always held a glimmer of hope that the power of rational thought might somehow, someday, transform society for the better. What a naive, gullible fool I have been! Just because I hold rationality as the crowning achievement of homo sapiens doesn't mean that the race, en masse, holds that view. I can think of no more shameful revelation regarding our complete and utter failure as a species than what these films accurately, and sadly, reveal.
Game over. Just a matter of time now. Somebody somewhere give me some reason to hope.

No one is forcing anyone to watch those shows. Young Americans, particularly men, shy away from rigorous degrees.
